Description
The invention relates to a moisture sensor element based on a deliquescent substance for detecting the exceeding of a moisture limit value, wherein the sensor element is electrically readable, and a method for producing the same.
Continuous monitoring of relative humidity in the immediate environment or inside moisture-sensitive goods and products (electronic components and assemblies, food and beverages, medicines, chemicals, etc.) is of economic and, depending on the application, of safety interest. Humidity, along with temperature, is one of the most important environmental factors influencing product quality. During production, storage, transport or use, there are usually specific requirements for the limits of relative humidity to be observed and the associated maximum exposure times, with a plurality of applications necessitating the detection of a relative humidity excess limit value being exceeded. A violation of this specified limit value can lead to impairment of the function or a complete malfunction. Examples of normative regulations with specific requirements to be complied with humidity limits can be found z. In the standards: IPC / JEDEC J-STD-0.33B.1, MIL-I-8835A and MIL-I-26860.
For moisture monitoring, sensor elements are known which are used for the continuous monitoring of the compliance with maximum relative air humidity limit values, ie. H. the continuous monitoring of a limit value violation of relative humidity or a relative humidity dose with activation moisture, the so-called Deliqueszenz exploit. If a crystal of a pure salt, which is not subject to any hydration processes, exposed to increasing relative humidity, it takes up from a characteristic for this salt humidity, the Deliqueszenzfeuchtigkeit, water vapor and forms a solution. A salt solution formed in this way above the Deliqueszenzleuchtigkeit can be used, for example, with the aid of a chemical reactions of the salt solution with an indicator substance, for the indication of a Luftfeuchenterenzwertungswert.
The sintered material depot with electrically nonconductive, metal-containing particles and a spatially separated salt depot comprising moisture sensor element responds to moisture by the deliqueszente salt of the salt depots on exceeding the Deliqueszenzpunktes by absorbing large amounts of water vapor solution and due to a chemical reaction of the solution with the sintering material depot, the so-called sintering, releasing conductive metal irreversibly. The sintering takes place as chemical sintering in the liquid phase, in particular under ambient temperature. In particular, the sensor or such a sensor element for air moisture limit value monitoring requires no electrical power supply and only a binary value is stored since the change in state of the sensor element is an intrinsic memory effect of the device, namely an irreversible increase in the conductivity if the air humidity exceeds the limit value , A resistance change brought about by exceeding the defined air humidity limit value or the defined air humidity dose can be detected at a later time by an associated evaluation or control system.
Inkjetdruck, hergestellt. In addition, during the production of this moisture sensor element, there is the possibility of defining a delay time by varying the distance between the sintered material deposit and the salt deposit in addition to the definition of a triggering specific humidity value. The moisture sensor element is preferably manufactured using additive technologies of printed electronics, e.g. Inkjet printing, produced.
Since the salt solution formed in the salt deposit in case of exceeding the salt-specific Deliqueszenzluchte by transport processes on a (due to the spatial separation) arranged between salt deposit and sintered material depot diffusion path - for the purpose of triggering the chemical sintering - must get into the filled with metal nanoparticles sintered material depot, a short-term exceeding the Humidity is often insufficient to overcome the Diffusion path and then perform the sintering necessary amount of saline solution.
Another disadvantage of this moisture sensor element is that a check of the proper production and functionality are destructive, namely by triggering the chemical sintering verifiable.
It is an object of the invention to provide a moisture sensor element based on a salt depot (with a deliquescent material in the solid state of matter) and at least one sintered material depot (comprising metal nanoparticles surrounded by an electrically passivating ligand) which has a greatly reduced compared to the prior art Triggering response even at short time exceeding the predetermined air humidity limit value, and to provide a method for its production, wherein a faulty moisture sensor element should be identifiable by means of electrical and optical measurement method.
The object of the invention is achieved with a moisture sensor element according to the features of claim 1 and a method for its preparation according to the features of claim 9; expedient embodiments of the invention will become apparent from the claims 2 to 8 and 10th
According to the invention, it is intended to use a sintered material deposit consisting of a first part of metal nanoparticles (eg silver) surrounded by a ligand material and a second part of pure metal nanoparticles, i. that is, the sintered material in the sintered material deposit is present in a first part in a unsintered and in a second part in a sintered state. It is therefore a partially sintered sintered material depot. The proportion of the sintered sintered material, d. H. the ratio of sintered to the total amount of sintered material, in the sintered material depot is freely adjustable in a range between 15% and 65%.
By a part of the sintering material depot consists of pure metal nanoparticles, electrically conductive subregions or substructures can be formed in the sintered material depot already before the initiation of the chemical sintering reaction (due to exceeding of the predefined air moisture limit value). For example, partially formed, electrically conductive Perkolationspfade occur in the sintered material depot in randomly distributed metal nanoparticles, but remain electrically insulating areas between the partially formed percolation paths. As a result, the electrical conductivity of the partially sintered sintered material depot is between the electrical conductivity of a completely unsintered and that of a sintered sintered material depot completely sintered.
The moisture sensor element according to the invention furthermore comprises electrical contacts for reading out the stored information and / or for electrical characterization. The electrical contacts can be designed in the form of conventional connection pads which contact the sintered material deposit on two opposite sides (electrically).
Advantageously, the salt deposit is applied directly to the sintered material depot. Thus, the moisture sensor element has a layered structure: on a substrate or carrier, the sintered material depot is applied in the form of a layer of partially sintered sintered material and this in turn the salt deposit in the form of a layer of solid, deliquescent material. Thus, a layer of sensorially used salt is arranged above a mixed layer of initially insulating and initially conducting nanoparticles.
By this layer structure in conjunction with the partially sintered sintered material depot, a significant reduction of the triggering time of the sensor is achieved, since on the one hand the transport path between salt deposit and sintered material depot is reduced to the absolute minimum and on the other hand, due to the sintered parts already partially present in the sintered material sections a shortening of the reaction time is achieved , which is necessary due to the replacement of nanoparticle ligands to form a complete, conductive path.
Another advantage of the layer structure is the independence of the salt from the substrate material used. The deliquescence moisture of a salt can, in particular in the case of very small salt particles (salt nanoparticles), vary by the interaction with a substrate material (it can become smaller or larger). That's why for everyone Material combination salt / substrate a determination of the Deliqueszenzluchte, ie that Feuchenterenzwert at which the sensor responds, necessary. If a change of the substrate material, a new experimental characterization must be done. The fact that the salt according to the invention is in direct contact only with the sintered material, one obtains independence from the substrate material; only the interaction between sintered material and salt is to be considered.
In addition, due to this structure of the moisture sensor element, a smaller amount of salt material is required as compared with the prior art sensor element. This is particularly important for salts with high material costs and / or harmful potential.
Due to the possibility of free adjustment of the proportion of sintered sintered material in the sintered material depot moisture sensor elements can be produced, the electrical resistance in the initial state is adjustable in a wide range. Accordingly, the initial electrical resistance of the sintered material depot can be determined, for example, using a commercially available handheld multimeter (comprising a measuring range of a maximum of 20 MΩ). For a routine test of individual sensors after production, a measurable initial resistance value is absolutely advantageous.
A resistance change brought about by exceeding the defined air humidity limit value or the defined air humidity dose can be detected by an associated evaluation system, for example at certain control times. Thus, there is no need for a measuring arrangement or measuring system for permanent measurement; only sporadic checks have to be carried out. This property is particularly useful for energy critical applications, e.g. RFID tags with additional sensor function advantageous and it is such. no additional electrical energy storage needed. The moisture sensor element can be used advantageously as a disposable sensor or disposable measurement sensor. When the limit value is exceeded, the variable to be monitored, namely the relative humidity, leads to an irreversible parameter change of the sensor element, which manifests itself in a permanent change of an evaluable measuring signal. In particular, the invention can be used in wireless, sensorial RFID technology or in wireless, passive sensors and sensor systems in which an electrical power supply is either not possible, too expensive or not guaranteed at all times.
The moisture sensor element can be produced by means of cost-effective, additive, digital production methods such as offset or inkjet printing.
Preferably, the partially sintered sintered material depot is defined structured, d. H. the sintered subregions are arranged in a predetermined spatial structure within the sintered material depot (dependent on the fraction of the partially sintered sintered material). This spatial structure of the sintered portions preferably has dimensions, i. H. Structure sizes and structure distances, in the micrometer and / or nanometer range, which is why it is hereinafter referred to as "microstructure". In the following, the microstructure refers to a (spatial) arrangement of nanoparticles of a material with specific properties. The microstructure (in the sintered material depot) thus defines the distribution of the sintered subareas within the partially sintered sintered material depot.
Advantageously, the salt deposit also has a microstructure, this microstructure being identical in dimensions and spatial positioning to that of the sintered material deposit, i. h., The salt of the salt deposit is deposited on the sintered portions of the sintering material depot.
According to the invention, in the partially sintered sintered material depot via the microstructure there is no sintered material sintered over the entire extent of the sintered material depot, ie. that is, there is no electrically conductive path (percolation path) completely formed by the sintered material deposit. By means of the choice of the parameters of the microstructure (degree of filling, structuring type, quantity or overpressure layers), however, the initial electrical resistance of the sintering material deposit can be predetermined. Thus, moisture sensor elements can be produced, the electrical resistance in the initial state is adjustable in a wide range.
In one embodiment variant of the moisture sensor element according to the invention, it is provided to structure the sintered material depot (and the salt depot) in such a way that a regular arrangement of sintered and unsintered partial regions is formed. For example, the sintered portions may have a spherical shape, wherein these balls are arranged in a regular grid without contacting each other. The sintered subareas may also be strip-shaped, with strips of sintered sintered material spaced apart from one another in the partially sintered sintered material depot.
A further embodiment variant of the moisture sensor element provides a stochastic microstructure, ie the sintered partial regions (eg in the form of spheres or stars) are in a random or pseudo-random pattern in the partially sintered sintered material depot.
An advantage of a defined predetermined microstructure is the possibility of using optical test methods in order to be able to identify defective sensors after production. The microstructuring leads to optical properties characteristic of the respective pattern. Faulty sensors, eg. B. by lack of salt on or in the sintered material depot, can thus be detected by optical measurement methods without contact, also z. B. already during the manufacturing process.
The method for producing the moisture sensor element according to the invention includes the printing by offset or inkjet methods of the layers - both sintered material depot and salt depot - and the application of electrical contacts for an electrical characterization of the moisture sensor element or for reading the stored information during operation.
According to the invention, the production of the moisture sensor element, ie the layered structure of the salt deposit on the partially sintered sintered material, by means of additive inkjet printing on a substrate in three steps:
During the first nanoparticle printing, the sintered material depot is printed over its entire area with unsintered, ie electrically non-conductive, nanoparticles, the sintered material depot layer produced in this case - if there are no unavoidable chemical reactions with the substrate material - still having no conductive regions. For nanoparticle printing, an inorganic metal nanoparticle ink, ie, a solution of metal particles surrounded by a ligand material, is used. Simultaneously with the pressure of the sintered material depot, the areas provided for the electrical contacts (as part of the sintering material depot) can also be printed onto the substrate with the metal nanoparticle ink.
During the contact-making production pressure which subsequently takes place, the electrical contacts are produced as initially conducting regions in two opposite edge regions of the sintered material depot. This can be z. B. by applying or imprinting of saline solution. The saline solution causes complete sintering of the metal nanoparticles in this area, which leads to the formation of metallically conductive connection pads.
B. Laser Sintern. The production of the contacts, d. H. the generation of conductive regions in two opposite edge regions of the sintered material deposit can also be effected by means of other sintering processes (except for the chemical sintering described here). Thus, a locally operating thermal sintering process can be used such. B. laser sintering.
Final is the salt pressure at which salt deposits are printed according to the predetermined microstructure, which can also be printed several times in a salt depot. For the salt pressure, the same saline solution can be used as for the contacting pressure. Due to the microstructure, however, there is a faster evaporation of the liquid from the ink in comparison to the contacting pressure, so that salt crystals remain on the surface of the sintered material deposit, wherein the regions of the sintered material deposit arranged below the salt are sintered locally, ie. H. become electrically conductive.
According to one embodiment variant of the method, the second and the third step, namely the printing of the contacts and the salt deposit, are combined in a single step, wherein saline solution areally on the edge areas of the sintered material depot provided for the contacting and according to the predetermined microstructure on the area between the both contacts by means of the inkjet printer is printed.
Dazu zeigen in schematischer Darstellung die The invention will be explained in more detail with reference to embodiments. These show in a schematic representation of the
