The device according to the invention is characterized in that in the immediate vicinity of the hydrogen sensor (16) at least one connection opening (18, 20) open towards the environment is arranged.
Description
The invention relates to a device for detecting the hydrogen concentration according to the preamble of claim 1.
The inventor has now shown that the problem with the moisture not only occurs during operation of the fuel cell system, but especially when this is turned off. Especially in the application of fuel cell systems in vehicles, these are often turned off when the vehicle is parked. In these situations, a certain residual moisture in the area of the exhaust air duct is present, which obviously heavily loads the hydrogen sensor arranged there and damages it by corrosive processes. In principle, of course, heating is conceivable. However, during the entire downtime to heat the hydrogen sensor, as proposed for operating phases by the above-mentioned JP-letter, but represents a considerable effort and increases the energy consumption of the fuel cell system noticeably.
The object of the present invention is now to remedy this identified problem and in particular to avoid the last-mentioned disadvantage.
According to the invention this object is achieved by a device for detecting the hydrogen concentration with the features in claim 1. Advantageous embodiments and further developments emerge from the subclaims dependent thereon.
In the device according to the invention, it is provided that in the region of the exhaust air line, a hydrogen sensor is arranged directly or via a branch line, just as it is provided in the prior art. In addition, in the case of the device according to the invention, it is now the case that in the immediate vicinity of the hydrogen sensor at least one connection opening is arranged, which is open to the environment. This connection opening, which is open towards the environment, for example in the region of the exhaust air line or the branch line, if present, is arranged in the immediate vicinity of the hydrogen sensor. When switching off the fuel cell system, it is now through the connection opening to an exchange of gases within the system and in the environment. It will therefore adjust a moisture content, which corresponds approximately to the moisture content of the environment, even if there is a higher moisture content in the fuel cell system itself. By matching the moisture content in the region of the environment via the connection opening, it is thus ensured that only the moisture content of the environment or a slightly higher moisture content is present in the region of the hydrogen sensor, which is arranged in the immediate vicinity of the connection opening, even if in the fuel cell system itself possibly a much higher moisture content than in the environment. As a result, the load of the hydrogen sensor is reduced with moisture and deterioration of the hydrogen sensor is significantly reduced by the moisture. The structure thus achieves a significantly longer service life and the risk of a corrosion-induced failure of the hydrogen sensor is reduced.
The connection opening may be formed as a bore in the exhaust duct or the branch line according to an advantageous development of the idea according to the invention. It is then ideally located close to the hydrogen sensor to achieve the effect described above.
According to an advantageous development of the idea, it can alternatively also be provided that the connection opening is formed as the already existing outlet opening of the exhaust air line. The hydrogen sensor is so very close to the outlet opening of the exhaust duct in this case positioned to achieve the effect described above without additional bore introduced. Ideally, the distance between the hydrogen sensor and the outlet opening is at most two to three times the diameter of the exhaust air line, so that on the one hand a reliable measurement of the hydrogen concentration is possible and on the other hand a very direct connection to the environment is ensured, so that the humidity in the ideal case maximum Moisture in the vicinity of the fuel cell system corresponds.
According to a very advantageous development of the device according to the invention, provision may also be made for the hydrogen sensor to be arranged in a region of the upper region of gravity of a liquid separator arranged in the exhaust air line. Such a liquid separator is often present in the exhaust duct to prevent the direct leakage of liquid water, for example when used in a vehicle on the road. In the area of this liquid separator, the flow of exhaust air is calmed accordingly, so that the hydrogen sensor can be ideally placed here. Until now, the problem has always been that water is typically still present in the area of the liquid separator, so that a relatively high level of moisture, even when the fuel cell system is at a standstill, occurs in this area. The actually well-suited location for the hydrogen sensor in the water separator was therefore not used, due to the problems mentioned at the beginning with the corrosion at standstill of the fuel cell system. Due to the possibility of minimizing these problems via a connection opening in the immediate vicinity of the hydrogen sensor, the hydrogen sensor can in particular be used again in the region of the liquid separator, without having to fear the disadvantages mentioned above.
In a further very favorable embodiment of the device according to the invention, it can now also be provided that a heating device for the gas flow in the flow direction is arranged in front of the hydrogen sensor. Of course, it is also possible to reduce the relative humidity in the region of the hydrogen sensor by heating the gas flow. This applies in particular to the operation and can preferably be maintained for a certain time after the fuel cell system has been switched off, in order in particular to prevent the condensation of water in the area of the hydrogen sensor. Regardless, by placing it in the immediate vicinity of the connection opening to the environment by reducing the humidity or relative humidity in its area in this embodiment, the hydrogen sensor can achieve a significantly improved life in addition to at least temporary heating of the gas flow.
Further advantageous embodiments of the device according to the invention will become apparent from the remaining dependent claims and are described in more detail in the embodiments with reference to FIGS.
