Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a method for preparing the restart of a fuel cell system according to the closer defined in the preamble of claim 1.
Fuel cell systems are known from the general state of the art. These may be fuel cell systems, which are constructed in particular with so-called PEM fuel cells. They can be used to generate electrical drive power in vehicles. The problem with such fuel cell systems is the start at temperatures below freezing. In such a so-called freeze start, individual components of the fuel cell system and the fuel cells themselves, in particular the channels, may be clogged with frozen water in the so-called flow fields and pores in the so-called gas diffusion layers of a membrane electrode assembly. However, it may also come to frozen components, such as valves, line elements, frozen conveyors, or the like. To counter this problem, it is possible, on the one hand, to heat and defrost it accordingly during such a freeze start of a fuel cell system. However, this is comparatively energy intensive and delays the launch since it typically takes a longer period of time for the fuel cell system to thaw completely.
To counteract this problem, the fuel cell system can already be dried when the fuel cell system is shut down in preparation for the restart. For this purpose, it is known on the one hand, to flush the fuel cell system with air to expel water or water vapor from the fuel cell system.
After drying the fuel cell system with negative pressure, this is typically in a relatively dry state. The negative pressure is equal over a longer period of standstill of the fuel cell system by the penetration of air into the fuel cell system accordingly. Now it is so that air in the fuel cell system, in particular on the anode side, when restarting the fuel cell system can lead to significant problems. If hydrogen is metered onto the anode side when the fuel cell system is restarted, then a hydrogen / oxygen or hydrogen / air front runs through the anode chamber. Along this front there are considerable potential differences at the anode, since the area exposed to hydrogen already generates the voltage which is usual in the fuel cell, while the neighboring area which is still exposed to air or oxygen does not do so. This leads to a degradation of the catalyst at the anode, which significantly shortens the life of the fuel cell. The problem is that, even with an air-free anode compartment during a longer standstill phase, oxygen from the cathode compartment diffuses through the membranes of the fuel cell into the anode compartment. As soon as after the compensation of the negative pressure so air is present in the fuel cell system, this represents a significant risk to the life of the fuel cell when restarting the fuel cell system.
The object of the present invention is now to provide a method for preparing the restart of a fuel cell system with at least one fuel cell in a vehicle, which avoids the disadvantages mentioned, and which ensures a safe and reliable restart at all ambient temperatures, without affecting the Lifespan of the fuel cell due to the restart occurs.
According to the invention this object is achieved by a method having the features in the characterizing part of claim 1. Advantageous embodiments and further developments of the method according to the invention will become apparent from the dependent claims.
In the method according to the invention, it is provided that, just as in the generic state of the art, the drying of the fuel cell after switching off the electrical power extraction from the fuel cell on the anode side and / or the cathode side by applying a negative pressure, which according to the invention after drying the anode side and / or the cathode side of the fuel cell is filled with fuel. After drying with vacuum, the filling with fuel ensures that the negative pressure does not dissipate in that air flows over the fuel cell system, but the negative pressure is reduced according to the invention by filling the fuel cell system with fuel. This applies in particular to the anode compartment and the components associated therewith, for example an anode circuit of the fuel cell system. Likewise, the cathode side and in particular the cathode space can be filled with fuel in order to prevent the penetration of oxygen into the cathode space, so that no oxygen can diffuse through the membranes from the cathode space into the anode space when the fuel cell system is parked longer in the vehicle ,
The drying of the fuel cell system via the negative pressure after switching off the electrical power extraction from the fuel cell can be done in particular before the fuel cell system is substantially cooled, so as to the existing in the fuel cell system, and in particular in the fuel cell as a component with very high heat capacity residual heat use, in order to achieve the best possible drying and as much as possible in liquid form existing water by the negative pressure safe and reliable in the vaporous state to transfer and aspirate.
In an advantageous embodiment of the method according to the invention, it is also provided that the drying by means of negative pressure takes place until a predetermined water content in the fuel cell system is reached. This water content is set so that a freeze start is possible in any case and can not be blocked by any trained ice. This targeted drying so that a necessary for a successful restart, especially freezing, necessary water content in the fuel cell system, ensures that the energy required to generate the negative pressure as well as the time required can be minimized, as always just as long dried, as necessary for a successful restart.
In a very favorable embodiment of this idea, it may be provided that the water content in the fuel cell system is detected by means of a water content determination device from one or more measured values and compared with the predetermined water content. Values of AC resistance measurements, impedance measurements and / or moisture measurements can be used as measured values in accordance with an advantageous development of the invention. The measurements can take place at suitable locations of the fuel cell system and can be used either alone or combined with one another to determine or estimate the water content in the water content determination device.
In order to accelerate and improve the drying, it may also be provided according to a very advantageous embodiment of the method according to the invention, that during heating any existing heating devices in the fuel cell system are at least partially operated. It is often the case that in fuel cell systems heating means are available in any case, for example in order to thaw frozen emergency valve devices within the lines, which lead products and educts of the fuel cell to thaw. Such already existing heaters can now be operated during drying according to the described embodiment of the method according to the invention. This makes it possible to increase the temperature in the area to be dried in accordance with, and thus to improve the drying.
A favorable development of the method according to the invention also provides that a negative pressure pump is used to generate the negative pressure, which assumes other functions in the vehicle in the regular operation of the vehicle equipped with the fuel cell system, in particular for brake booster. A in the vehicle with the fuel cell system anyway existing vacuum pump can be particularly easily and efficiently used to generate the negative pressure, without the need for an additional new component must be carried. For example, a vacuum pump used for a brake booster in the vehicle can be used very simply to generate the negative pressure for drying the fuel cell system. A simple additional pipeline with a valve can connect the anode side and / or the Cathode side to the vacuum pump, which is no longer needed after stopping the fuel cell system for brake booster anyway. It can then be used to generate the negative pressure for drying the fuel cell system.
In a very advantageous development thereof, it can also be provided that the vacuum pump after drying without connection to the anode side and cathode side of the fuel cell system trailing. Such overrun of the vacuum pump can be used to dry it yourself. The connection to the fuel cell system is already interrupted, so that the pump only rinses itself, so as to be dried and to prevent the entry of moisture into the otherwise, during normal operation, operated with the vacuum pump system safely and reliably.
The fuel for filling the anode side and / or cathode side of the fuel cell system after drying can be derived, for example, from a storage volume for the fuel in the fuel cell system, for example a high-pressure tank for hydrogen. According to an advantageous embodiment of the method according to the invention, it is also possible that the fuel from a reservoir different from the storage volume for the fuel is used for filling the fuel cell system after drying. Such a reservoir has the advantage that it can store fuel at a pressure level which is typically below the pressure level of the storage volume for the fuel. This makes it possible, without a high pressure valve must be opened after the electrical shutdown of the fuel cell system, to provide a sufficient amount of fuel for filling the anode side and / or the cathode side of the fuel cell system after drying.
As a reservoir can be used in accordance with a very favorable development of this idea, a portion of the supply lines for the fuel. Between the high-pressure valve and a pressure regulating and metering valve, a line element is typically present, which leads the fuel from the Hochdruckabsperrventil to the actual fuel cell system and the metering valve arranged there. If this line volume is sufficiently large or the line is sufficiently long, then this line volume can be used very simply and efficiently as a reservoir, since the volume is present anyway and the corresponding valve devices are also present in the regular fuel cell system anyway.
In addition or alternatively, it is of course also possible to form the storage container by its own storage volume, for example a storage tank, which is additionally present in the fuel cell system or the vehicle. The reservoir in this embodiment can be filled during operation of the fuel cell system or by sucked fuel from the anode side during drying. Filling during operation provides the fuel at a pressure level in the reservoir that is typically at the level of the operating pressure of the fuel cell system or fuel cell. It can be arranged, for example, in an anode circuit or a fuel supply line of the anode side and connected via a valve corresponding controllable with the anode side. During operation, the valve is open so that the volume fills up. During shutdown, the valve is closed accordingly and opened again after drying in order to allow the fuel stored in the reservoir to flow back to the anode side. Through a connection of the anode side and the cathode side of this structure can be extended to both sides of the fuel cell.
Hierdurch ist es möglich, ohne dass Wasserstoff aus dem Brennstoffzellensystem verloren geht, das erfindungsgemäße Verfahren sehr einfach und hinsichtlich der benötigten Wasserstoffmenge sehr effizient durchzuführenThe alternative embodiment, in which aspirated fuel from the anode side is filled into the reservoir during drying, may be configured such that the reservoir communicates with the vacuum pump or the respective device for generating the negative pressure during drying. The fuel can then be conveyed via the vacuum pump into the reservoir and, after drying, can flow back into the anode side and / or cathode side of the fuel cell system. This structure is particularly simple and efficient, since the residual hydrogen remaining on the anode side of the fuel cell system is not released to the environment, but is temporarily stored in the reservoir and returned to the fuel cell system after drying. This makes it possible, without loss of hydrogen from the fuel cell system, to carry out the process according to the invention very simply and very efficiently with regard to the required amount of hydrogen
In an advantageous development of the fuel cell system according to the invention, it can also be provided that the fuel cell system is filled with fuel before the negative pressure in the fuel cell system has completely dissipated after drying. This particularly favorable embodiment of the method according to the invention thus provides that the negative pressure is compensated directly by the inflowing fuel, so that the pressure gradient due to the in the Fuel cell system still prevailing negative pressure after drying, the filling can be done with the fuel. As a result, the penetration of any air, especially in the presence of leaks and the like, safely and reliably prevented.
In an advantageous development of the method according to the invention, it is provided that during the entire process a pressure difference between the anode side and the cathode side is always kept below 1.5 bar, preferably below 1 bar, more preferably below 0.5 bar. Such a maintenance of a pressure difference of less than 1.5 bar between the anode side and the cathode side during the entire process, so both during drying, but especially when filling the fuel cell system with fuel after drying, protects the arranged between the cathode side and the anode side membranes of the fuel cell system and thus ensures a very gentle handling of the fuel cell. This applies in particular if the method is only used for one side, preferably for the anode side, and / or if the danger exists through long connecting lines between the cathode side and the anode side when applying the negative pressure and / or filling the fuel cell system with fuel. that build up high pressure differences.
Advantageous developments of the method according to the invention will become apparent from the embodiment, which is described below with reference to the figures.
