Description
The invention relates to an organic material for use in optoelectronic components.
Optoelectronic components are based on the optical and electronic properties of materials and are now widely used in everyday life, such as solar cells, LEDs and TFTs. In general, they include all products and processes that enable the conversion of electronically generated data and energies into light emission or that convert light emissions into energies.
Optoelectronic components that convert light emission into energy include photodiodes that are operated as photovoltaic systems or used as light-sensitive sensors or exposure meters in various products such as digital cameras, CD players, light barriers.
Optoelectronic components made mostly of organic materials are known for use as LEDs (OLED) and photovoltaic systems (OPV). The organic materials used in these optoelectronic components fulfill different tasks such as charge transport, light emission or light absorption. Organic materials in optoelectronic components can be polymers or small molecules and in solution or emulsion by wet chemical processes such as coating or printing or in a vacuum by e.g. Sublimation can be processed into thin layers.
A solar cell converts light energy into electrical energy. In this sense, the term “photoactive” is understood as the conversion of light energy into electrical energy. In contrast to inorganic solar cells, light does not directly generate free charge carriers in organic solar cells, but excitons, i.e. electrically neutral states of excitation (bound electron-hole pairs), are initially formed.
The low-recombination diffusion of excitons at the active interface therefore plays a critical role in organic solar cells. In order to make a contribution to the photocurrent, the exciton diffusion length in a good organic solar cell must therefore clearly exceed the typical penetration depth of the light so that the majority of the light can be used. If the absorber layer is a mixed layer, either only one of the components or both takes over the task of light absorption. The advantage of mixed layers is that the generated excitons only have to travel a very short distance until they reach a domain boundary where they are separated. The electrons or holes are transported away separately in the respective materials. Since the materials are in contact with each other everywhere in the mixed layer, it is crucial for this concept that the separate charges have a long service life on the respective material and that there are closed percolation paths for both types of charge carriers to the respective contact from every location.

The object of this invention is therefore to provide materials which can be used as an active layer in optoelectronic components and which overcome the disadvantages of the prior art.

The acceptor groups A and A 'of the molecules ADA' according to the invention have electron-withdrawing properties compared to the donor block D. The donor block D of the molecules ADA 'according to the invention has an extensive π system with at least 6 conjugated double bonds in a linear sequence, consisting of homocyclic or heterocyclic 5- and 6-rings and / or fused systems of the same or mixed type of homocyclic or heterocyclic 5- and 6-rings and / or is composed of substituted or unsubstituted vinylenes and / or triple bonds, at least one homocyclic or heterocyclic 5- or 6-ring or an fused system of the same or mixed type of homocyclic or heterocyclic 5- and 6-rings being present is. The two terminal acceptor groups A and A 'are the same and are selected from cis- or trans-cyanovinyl CH = CH (CN), dicyanovinyl CH = C (CN) 2 or tricyanovinyl C (CN) = C (CN) 2 , which are preferred Acceptor end groups A and A 'selected from CH = C (CN) 2 . The extended donor block D preferably has a maximum of 14, particularly preferably a maximum of 12 conjugated double bonds in a linear sequence.
The compounds according to the invention are asymmetrical. In this context, asymmetrical means that the parts of the compounds according to the invention (atoms, groups of atoms) cannot be converted into one another by geometric operations with respect to a plane, a straight line or a point. Such geometric operations are called symmetry operations.
In order to be asymmetrical, the compounds of the invention may have an unsymmetrical substituent such as e.g. 2-butyl, have an unsymmetrical substitution pattern on a symmetrical donor block, e.g. in Examples 1 or 2 and / or have an asymmetrically structured donor block, e.g. for examples 5, 6 or 7. The characteristics mentioned for asymmetry can be combined.
In the classification according to symmetry groups, the compounds according to the invention have a donor block D with the symmetry of the point group C 1 or C S , but preferably C S.
With the help of symmetry point groups, molecules can be classified according to their symmetry properties. Symmetry point groups consist of symmetry operations.
A molecule belongs to C1 if it does not contain any other element besides identity. It can only be brought into congruence again by rotating it 360 ° around any axis that is placed through it. But that is identical to the starting position.
If it has a plane of symmetry besides identity, it belongs to Cs.
The compounds according to the invention are used as thin layers in optoelectronic components. They preferably serve as light absorber layers in solar cells, such as, for example, organic solar cells or hybrid solar cells with organic and inorganic layers.
They are preferably donors in a donor-acceptor heterojunction. Usual acceptors in such donor-acceptor heterojunctions are fullerenes such as C60 or C70 or derivatives of the two materials.
A donor-acceptor heterojunction can be implemented in a mixed layer or as a flat heterojunction at the interface between two individual layers.
The active layer system can consist of any combination of mixed layers and individual layers. Furthermore, the mixed layers or individual layers can be additionally doped.
The compounds according to the invention can be applied to form thin layers by vapor deposition in a vacuum or by wet technology processes such as printing or coating. The advantages of layer growth can, however, be observed especially with methods of vapor deposition in a vacuum.
It was surprisingly found that components with active layers made of materials according to the invention come close to the expected values for the open-circuit voltage and the short-circuit current taken from the absorption spectrum and the position of HOMO and LUMO.
This could be due to a lower tendency of the compounds according to the invention to crystallize. Crystallization can lead to partial segregation of a mixed layer and to very rough layers, which hinder the construction of the component.
This is also unexpected, as symmetrical molecules are generally preferred, which are simpler and less expensive to assemble.
In one embodiment of the invention, the A-D-A 'materials according to the invention are organic materials with a molar mass of 100 to 2000 g / mol.
The compounds according to the invention can be prepared via a wide variety of C-C coupling reactions known to those skilled in the art. Suzuki, Stille, Kumada or Negishi couplings may be mentioned here by way of example, but not by way of limitation. As a rule, a metallized compound R-M is reacted with a halogenated compound R'-Hal using a catalyst, whereby the coupled compound R-R 'is obtained. M can be, for example, metal or semimetal components from the group Mg, Zn, B, Sn, Si, which can carry further substituents, while the halogen component Hal can be F, Cl, Br, I. Also a reaction with an unsubstituted compound R '= H is conceivable.
In addition, the compounds according to the invention can be produced using a wide variety of methods for producing double bonds known to the person skilled in the art. Exemplary, however The Wittig reaction, Wittig-Horner-Emmons reaction, Julia olefination, Peterson reaction, and aldol condensation may be mentioned here without limitation.
It goes without saying that a combination of different reaction types is also possible in one reaction sequence.
The order of the reactions can be varied.
