Abstract
Description
Stand der TechnikState of the art
The present invention relates to the production of carbon nanowires.
The prior art fabrication methods (e.g., liquid phase deposition) have the disadvantages that it is difficult, or often impossible, to fabricate targeted nanowires with a fixed contact. However, this is a prerequisite for using such nanowires in electrical components.
Offenbarung der ErfindungDisclosure of the invention
- a) providing two electrodes and applying an electric field between these electrodes so that a cathodic and anodic field line elevation arises
- b) contacting soot particles and / or carbon nanowires with the electric field, so that a defined deposition of soot particles and / or carbon nanowires takes place between the electrodes.
- - By the method according to the invention, it is possible to produce targeted carbon nanowires between two electrodes and thus to enable the planning and implementation of complex electronic components.
- - The method can be used in a simple manner and requires no complex components
- - The method allows in principle a sorting of metallic and semiconducting nanowires, as the interaction with the electric field is different. This can be targeted to produce either metallic or semiconducting nanowires between the electrodes
For the purposes of the present invention, the term "field line superelevation" is understood to mean, in particular, that it is a spatially inhomogeneous distribution of the electric field, so that the effect of the dielectrophores for attaching the nanowires is utilized. In addition to a temporally constant field distribution, in particular a temporal variation of the electric field can also be utilized in order to align or sort the nanowires. For this purpose, an alternating voltage is applied between the electrodes. The frequency of the AC voltage or the frequencies of the AC voltage, in the case of superposition of multiple frequencies can be constant in time, or else can be varied over time.
In the context of the present invention, the term "soot particles" is understood as meaning in particular carbon-containing particles having a diameter of greater than or equal to 1 nm and less than or equal to 200 nm, preferably greater than or equal to 10 nm and less than or equal to 100 nm.
The term "bringing into contact" in the sense of the present invention is understood in particular to mean that the soot particles suspended in a fluid pass through the field or migrate through the field by diffusion, so that they deposit on the electrodes by means of the field.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the soot particles are suspended in a fluid. This can be a liquid or a gas.
Zusatz von NatriumlaurylsulfatIn the event that the fluid (predominantly) represents a liquid, it is advantageous to arrange a suspension of the soot particles or the carbon nanowires so that it is exposed to the electric field between the electrons. Preferred liquids are H 2 O, ethanol, isopropanol or mixtures of these liquids and, if appropriate, addition of sodium lauryl sulfate
In the event that the fluid is (predominantly) a gas, it is advantageous, and in this respect a preferred embodiment of the invention, for the soot particles or the carbon nanowires to be conducted suspended in a carrier gas through the electric field between the electrons. Preferred speeds are greater than or equal to 0.1 m / s to less than or equal to 10 m / s. Preferred carrier gases are air, oxygen, nitrogen, argon, helium, neon or mixtures of these gases.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the concentration of soot particles in the fluid is from greater than or equal to 1 mg / m 3 to less than or equal to 50 mg / cm 3 , preferably greater than or equal to 10 mg / cm 3 to less than or equal to 30 mg / cm 3 .
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the field line elevation between the electrodes is effected so that the electrodes form a peak at an angle of 5 ° or greater. This has proven to be a simple and advantageous way to bring about such a field line increase.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the shortest distance between the two electrodes of greater than or equal to 1 micron to less than or equal to 100 microns. At longer distances, it has often proved problematic to produce carbon nanowires in reasonable quality, at smaller distances the local field density often becomes too high.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, at least step b) of the method is carried out at a voltage of greater than or equal to 0.5 × V to less than or equal to 1 × V, where x represents the shortest distance between the two electrodes in μm. Thus, at (for example) a distance of 60 μm, the voltage is greater than or equal to 30V to greater than or equal to 60V. These tensions have been found to be useful, on the one hand to allow a good separation, on the other hand, not to let the field too strong.
At least step b) of the method is preferably carried out at a voltage of greater than or equal to 0.6 × V to less than or equal to 0.8 × V, where x represents the shortest distance between the two electrodes in μm.
