Description
Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zur Herstellung von Synthesegas enthaltend Kohlenmonoxid (CO) und Wasserstoff (H2) aus Kohlendioxid (CO2).The invention relates to a process for the production of synthesis gas containing carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrogen (H 2 ) from carbon dioxide (CO 2 ).
The use of carbon dioxide for the production of synthesis gas, that is, a hydrogen-containing gas mixture, in particular a gas mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen, or for the production of fuels is known.
In particular, the problem arises in the case of the use of catalytic production processes that the catalysts used do not show sufficient service life. This is based on the one hand by thermodynamic phenomena, on the other hand by material properties of the catalyst materials used. For example, at reaction temperatures below 400 ° C no chemical conversion. By increasing the reaction temperature, the formation of carbon is thermodynamically favored, with the risk of so-called coking of the catalyst, that is, that the catalyst is no longer operational. This can be counteracted by elevated reaction temperatures above 900 ° C, but a sintering of the catalyst material can take place, which also limits the life of the catalyst.
The use of so-called plasma-based dielectric barrier discharges has been proposed, carbon dioxide-methane mixtures being convertible to synthesis gas even at temperatures between 20 and 30 ° C. However, the problem here is the efficiency, since in order to obtain significant sales, energy expenditure of ten times the reaction enthalpy are required.
Furthermore, the synthesis of synthesis gas has recently been proposed to combine plasmas with catalysts. In this case, both the conversion of synthesis gas and the efficiency could be increased at reaction temperatures above 700 ° C, although the problem of coking, ie the formation of soot and the associated limitation of the life of the catalyst is still not solved.
The invention is therefore the problem of providing an improved process for the production of synthesis gas starting from carbon dioxide.
The problem is solved according to the invention by a method of the type mentioned, which is characterized in that the carbon dioxide flows through a plasma, wherein a decomposition of the carbon dioxide is carried out in decomposition products, after which the decomposition products flow through a hydrocarbon-containing gas, wherein by reaction of the decomposition products with the gaseous hydrocarbon synthesis gas is produced.
The inventive method provides a two-stage process for the production of synthesis gas, that is, a gas mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen before, in a first step, the used, preferably gaseous carbon dioxide, which may be in pure form or as part of a gas mixture, by a device plasma generated to generate plasma flows through which plasma it is advantageously completely decomposed into decomposition products. Here, temperatures of several thousand degrees Celsius are reached.
Die Zerlegungsprodukte, worunter beispielsweise elementare Kohlenstoff bzw. Sauerstoff, Kohlenstoff- bzw. The decomposition products, including, for example, elemental carbon or oxygen, carbon or oxygen radicals but also different molecular fragments are fed in a second step a hydrocarbon-containing gas or flow through this, wherein a mixing of the decomposition products with the gaseous hydrocarbon takes place. The use of pure gaseous hydrocarbon is preferred here. Due to the high temperature of the gaseous decomposition products, an endothermic reaction with the hydrocarbon takes place during the mixing to synthesis gas. The mixing time is comparatively short, that is, the mixing preferably takes place within a few milliseconds.
Thus, the invention proposes a thermodynamically favored process route for the production of synthesis gas, which leads to fast, efficient chemical conversions. High mixing and reaction rates of the decomposition products of the carbon dioxide with the hydrocarbon avoids the commonly used heating of a gas mixture of hydrocarbon and carbon dioxide, which would inevitably pass through the temperature range of the thermodynamically preferred soot formation.
Preferably, the carbon dioxide and / or the decomposition products flow or flow at a flow rate of 10 to 100 m / s. On the one hand, such high flow velocities shorten the residence time of the carbon dioxide in the plasma, so that no thermodynamic equilibrium of the decomposition reaction (s) of the carbon dioxide can be established here. Thus, a higher proportion of the electrical energy of the plasma is used for the decomposition of the carbon dioxide molecules, respectively, or be in relation to the second process step high mixing rates of Destruction products with the gaseous hydrocarbon achieved. In this way, the yield of synthesis gas and thus the efficiency of the process according to the invention is increased overall or the desired products carbon monoxide and hydrogen can be produced with high selectivity. In exceptional cases, the flow rates may also be higher or lower.
In a further development of the invention, an apparatus for generating plasmas can be used to generate the plasma, which provides an amplitude of the reduced electric field strength in the operating gas in the range from about 100 V / mm bar to about 10 kV / mm bar. Correspondingly reduced electric fields generate high-energy electrons in the plasma, which promote or accelerate the decomposition of the carbon dioxide. Preferably, the plasma is not completely thermalized, so it is not in a thermodynamic equilibrium. At atmospheric pressure and an operating voltage of 10 kV, this means that the electrodes used for plasma generation can have distances of 1 mm to 100 mm. At higher pressures, either higher operating voltages or shorter electrode distances are required. Of course, plasma generation is not limited to this range of design parameters and operating conditions. In particular, it is conceivable to operate plasmas even at reduced electric field strengths below 100 V / mm bar, although with lower efficiency for the carbon dioxide decomposition must be expected, but in terms of gas flow and electrical supply of the device for generating plasma or the plasma reactor more flexible operation is possible.
The mixing of the decomposition products with the hydrocarbon-containing gas advantageously takes place in such a way that the temperature of the synthesis gas produced is less than or equal to 1100 ° C., in particular between 700 and 1000 ° C. Accordingly, the temperature of the synthesis gas after completion of the process in the range around 1000 ° C and below. In doing so, the process should advantageously be run in such a way that this criterion is met, which is equally justified by thermodynamically favored equilibrium ratios.
For plasma generation electrodes directly in contact with the flowing carbon dioxide and DC voltage, AC voltage, in particular low-frequency AC voltage, or pulsperiodische voltage can be used. The use of pulsed-periodic voltage has the advantage that a thermalization, that is, the setting of a thermodynamic equilibrium is suppressed, but this requires an increased effort to provide the electrical energy necessary. For DC or low frequency AC plasmas, the electrodes may be in direct contact with the plasma, in which case graphite electrodes are preferred.
To generate plasma, alternatively, electrodes in direct contact with the flowing carbon dioxide and pulse-periodic voltage, in particular high-frequency pulse-periodic voltage, alternating voltage, in particular high-frequency alternating voltage, or electromagnetic waves, in particular microwaves, can be used. When using microwaves or high-frequency alternating voltages in the radio frequency range, therefore, a direct contact of the electrodes with the plasma can be avoided, so protective gases are not required. At particularly high flow rates of the carbon dioxide or the decomposition products or of the hydrocarbon-containing gas mixture, the use of surface wave plasmas is preferred.
With particular advantage, the waste heat generated in the process of a device for generating steam, in particular a heat exchanger for generating steam, supplied. Consequently, the thermal energy produced during the process can be used industrially, the steam produced, that is to say in particular the water vapor produced, being particularly preferably supplied to the decomposition products of the carbon dioxide and / or the hydrocarbon-containing gas. In this way, the unwanted formation of soot during the cooling of the synthesis gas can be thermodynamically suppressed and the chemical equilibrium of the products shifted in the direction of the hydrogen.
It is conceivable that the synthesis gas for post-reaction of a catalyst, in particular based on nickel (Ni) or zirconium (Zr), is supplied. Thus, catalytically assisted materials not fully reacted during the production process are given the opportunity to react to synthesis gas. The catalyst may, for. B. in the form of a solid, for example with a honeycomb or in powder form. In addition to the mentioned nickel or zirconium catalysts, the use of other catalyst materials is conceivable.
It is advantageously possible to supply the synthesis gas to a synthesis reaction, in particular methanol or dimethyl ether synthesis. In this variant of the invention, the thermal energy of the synthesis gas produced is used for subsequent processes, thus the process heat is used efficiently. It is possible in the subsequent dimethyl ether synthesis, the usual catalytic production process consisting in Essentially from dehydration of methanol to dimethyl ether to improve, since the usually necessary use of hydrogen is reduced. Likewise, the efficiency of dimethyl ether synthesis can be increased.
In addition, the invention relates to an apparatus for producing synthesis gas containing carbon monoxide and hydrogen from carbon dioxide, which is designed for carrying out the method described. The apparatus has at least one first reaction chamber, comprising at least one device for generating plasma for decomposing the carbon dioxide flowing through at least one supply line into the first reaction chamber, into decomposition products, and at least one of the first reaction chamber downstream via at least one line or directly the second reaction chamber connected to the first reaction chamber, which contains or is traversed by a hydrocarbon-containing gas supplied via a feed line, wherein synthesis gas is produced by passing the decomposition products through the gaseous hydrocarbon by reaction of the decomposition products with the gaseous hydrocarbon and discharged via a discharge line. Accordingly, the two-stage production process according to the invention for the production of synthesis gas with the device according to the invention can be carried out in such a way that the decomposition of the supplied carbon dioxide in the first reaction chamber (s) takes place via the plasma generated in this or these and the subsequent mixing of the decomposition products of the carbon dioxide with the hydrocarbonaceous gas in the second reaction chamber (s). All reaction chambers are equipped with suitable supply and discharge lines, so that the gaseous substances used for the production process according to the invention can flow between them. It is equally conceivable that one or more second reaction chamber (s) are directly connected to one or more first reaction chamber (s) or are in direct contact with them. Furthermore, it is conceivable in the device according to the invention that these have at least two separate, in particular parallel, device units for syngas production, each comprising at least one first and at least one second reaction chamber, grouped individually or in a plurality of corresponding device units.
It is preferred that the device for generating plasma has a plurality of plasma sources. In this way, the mixture of the decomposition products with the gaseous hydrocarbon can be improved, which is due in particular to the fact that a larger ratio of contact area to volume is obtained by using a plurality of small plasma sources for the decomposition of the carbon dioxide. As mentioned above, the plasma sources can be electrically excited differently. The reduced electric field strength of the plasma sources is preferably in the range of about 100 V / mm bar to about 10 kV / mm bar.
Advantageously, the at least one line between the first and the second reaction chamber and / or the second reaction chamber at least one opening for coupling of steam, in particular water vapor on. As described for the method according to the invention, by feeding small amounts of water vapor, the soot formation can be thermodynamically suppressed during the cooling of the synthesis gas and, furthermore, the product spectrum can be shifted in favor of the hydrogen.
The second reaction chamber may be followed by a catalyst, in particular based on nickel (Ni) or zirconium (Zr), for the after-reaction of the synthesis gas. Accordingly, it is possible to catalytically convert materials or compounds that are not completely converted to synthesis gas into synthesis gas, thereby increasing the efficiency of syngas production.
It is also conceivable that the second reaction chamber optionally downstream of the catalyst or the second reaction chamber, a further reaction chamber for carrying out a synthesis reaction, in particular the methanol or dimethyl ether synthesis, is connected downstream. In this way, the thermal energy of the synthesis gas can be used efficiently for subsequent processes.
