Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an adaptive lighting device according to the preamble of claim 1.
Adaptive lighting devices that can be used in particular in motor vehicles are known from the prior art in different embodiments. An adaptive lighting device for motor vehicles, whose light distribution can adaptively adapt to different lighting situations, is often referred to in the art as "Adaptive Frontlighting System" (AFS). The adaptive lighting devices known from the prior art have different properties. For example, by adapting the light distribution, you can enable dynamic headlight range control or improved curve illumination. Furthermore, the known lighting devices can also be designed so that an adaptive switching between a low-beam function and a remote function is possible.
Adaptive lighting devices employing the aforementioned light-directing and modulating means are relatively susceptible to mechanical disturbance and thus can not be used in simple reflector systems without a light projection device. Furthermore, when using a light source with semiconductor bulbs their photometric properties and in particular the degradation of the semiconductor bulbs is a known problem. In case of failure of a single semiconductor light source of a light source with a plurality of semiconductor bulbs replacement of the complete lighting device is often necessary, resulting in increased resource consumption and thus leads to increased costs.
This is where the present invention sets and makes it its mission to provide an adaptive lighting device of the type mentioned above, which is robust and has a low susceptibility to mechanical disturbances.
The solution to this problem provides an adaptive lighting device of the type mentioned above with the features of the characterizing part of claim 1. The subclaims relate to advantageous developments of the invention.
- The adaptive illumination device comprises a hollow free-form reflector means having a number of highly reflecting free-form surface sections and having a light exit opening, wherein the light source is arranged in the interior of the free-form reflector means such that the light emitted by the light source during operation can at least partially be reflected at the highly-reflecting free-form surface sections, that it can escape from the light exit opening of the free-form reflector means in the environment, and that
- - The means for adaptive adaptation of the light distribution at least one optical transmission means with a number of switchable optical transmission segments, which is arranged in front of or on the highly reflective freeform surfaces, and a voltage control means by means of which the optical transmission segments can be supplied with an electrical voltage, wherein the switchable optical transmission segments are designed so that they can change their transmissivity when an electrical voltage is applied.
The adaptive illumination device according to the invention has the advantage that the adaptive light functions, in particular the adaptation of the light distribution to different illumination and / or ambient light situations, can also be realized with a simply constructed reflector system without projection device and special diaphragm means. It has not been possible to realize adaptive lighting functions in a simple reflector system. Important key points of the solution according to the invention are the provision of a free-form reflector means with a plurality of highly reflective free-form surface sections, which may be segmented according to a preferred embodiment, and the use of at least one switchable optical transmission means to set the transmission properties targeted. Thus, advantageously, the safety and comfort gain associated with the adaptive lighting functions can be increased in the said reflector systems. Another advantage of the adaptive lighting device presented here is that a simple replacement of the light source is possible. The cost of a light source replacement can be reduced.
In an advantageous embodiment, it is proposed that the voltage control device is designed such that it can supply the switchable optical transmission segments individually or in groups with an electrical voltage.
In a particularly advantageous embodiment, it is proposed that each of the switchable optical transmission segments is formed so that it is substantially translucent in a first switching state and at least partially opaque in at least a second switching state. It has been found that numerous light distributions can be generated in a simple manner by virtue of the fact that the optical transmission segments have only two switching states (translucent and at least partially opaque), between which it is possible to switch between them. In an advantageous embodiment, in order to increase the variability with regard to the possible producible light distributions, the switchable optical transmission segments may also be designed such that they have more than two switching states (for example a first switching state with high transmissivity, a second switching state with intermediate transmissivity and a third switching state with low transmissivity, in which the transmission segments are largely opaque) have.
In an advantageous embodiment, the optical transmission segments may be arranged side by side or one above the other in a one-dimensionally segmented field. The optical transmission segments arranged side by side or one above the other in the one-dimensionally segmented field can be switched individually or in groups by means of the voltage control device. In order to be able to make the light distributions that can be generated by the adaptive lighting device even more variable, it is proposed in a particularly advantageous embodiment that the optical transmission segments are arranged next to one another and one above the other in a two-dimensional field. The optical transmission segments arranged next to one another and one above the other in the two-dimensional field can be switched individually or in groups by means of the voltage control device.
It is preferred if at least some of the switchable optical transmission segments are formed by at least one electrochromic layer or by at least one polymer-dispersed liquid-crystal layer or by at least one layer having optically anisotropic light-absorbing suspended particles. Electrochromic materials are capable of changing their transmissivity in response to a DC voltage applied to them. If an electrical voltage is applied to an initially transparent layer of an electrochromic material in an initial state, a dark coloration of the electrochromic layer is achieved so that its transmissivity is reduced and thus it is only partially translucent. When the polarity of the applied voltage is reversed or a bond is shorted to the electrochromic layer, the electrochromic layer becomes translucent again.
A polymer-dispersed liquid crystal layer has the property that it does not become transparent until an electrical voltage is applied. Without electrical voltage, it is translucent only to a small extent and thus has a high opacity. An advantage of polymer dispersed liquid crystal layers is that the degree of transparency of the transmission segments of the optical transmission means can be controlled by the magnitude of the applied voltage so that more than two discrete switching states can be realized.
A layer with optically anisotropic light-absorbing suspended particles has the property that it becomes translucent by applying an electrical voltage. When no electrical voltage is applied, the suspended particles are randomly disposed within the layer and absorb light, so that the optical transmission segments are darkened and only a small amount of residual light can be transmitted. The optical transmission segments are thus dark or opaque in this state. When an electrical voltage is applied, the suspended particles align and become translucent. An advantage of this embodiment is that the optical transmission segments can be dimmed, so that the transmitted light component can be variably adjusted.
In a particularly advantageous embodiment, there is the possibility that at least some of the switchable optical transmission segments comprise at least one transparent plastic layer and / or at least one transparent glass layer. In particular, the at least one optical transmission means can form a composite with the free-form surface sections of the free-form reflector means. Such a composite can, for example, be glued to the free-form surface sections or be produced by vapor deposition on the free-form surface sections.
It can be provided in a further advantageous embodiment that the adaptive illumination device comprises at least one mechanical holding means, by means of which the at least one optical transmission means is mounted in the interior of the free-form reflector means. Thereby, a simple mounting of the at least one optical transmission means is made possible, which also allows an exchange of the optical transmission means.
In order to be able to further increase the variability with regard to the setting of possible adaptive light distributions, it is provided in a further advantageous embodiment that the adaptive illumination device comprises a number of optical transmission means arranged in series with a number of switchable optical transmission segments.
