Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a process for the continuous treatment of a viscous, pasty product in a mixing kneader with a continuous product and gas space.
STAND DER TECHNIKSTATE OF THE ART
The industrial production of polymers, in particular the production of homo- and co-polymeric elastomers, takes place by polymerization reactions in the so-called solution polymerization process, wherein the viscosity in the stirred tank reactor is lowered for better mixing through the use of solvent. From the resulting polymer solution, the solvent must be separated. The removal of this diluent is carried out today in the coagulation and stripping process, with large amounts of energy in the form of stripping steam (wet process) are used. After this step, the polymer has to be separated from the stripping medium by a mechanothermal drying process. The stripping medium is removed in two stages by mechanical pressing and atmospheric drying. During these processes a great deal of energy is required in the form of water vapor and a great deal of wash water, which leads to high wastewater volumes and, due to the large open aggregates, to high emissions. At the same time, the stripping agent and the solvent must again be separated from one another very laboriously. The existing process is thus an energy-inefficient, an inefficient technology characterized by high emission and investment costs. The existing technology is well-known, the risks are low and the catalyst systems and processing are tailored to this technology.

In addition to the energetic aspects and the high emissions, above all the high expenditure for the separation of water for modern water-sensitive anionic polymerization processes and the processing of extremely temperature-sensitive products are a driving force for the modernization of the process.
Aufgabetask
The object of the present invention is to reduce the energy or water vapor and water consumption in order to improve the energy balance of the process and to increase the efficiency of new polymerization. In parallel, temperature-sensitive special polymers can be produced which can not be produced with the existing technology or only with the addition of special antioxidants. The new dry process solution aims to make the process more energy efficient, greener and more flexible.
Lösung der AufgabeSolution of the task
To achieve the object results in that the supply of input product or recycled condensate is distributed in the product space of the mixing kneader over the length of the product space.
It is a method and apparatus for the continuous treatment of a polymer solution by direct evaporation of solvent, monomer, catalyst, initiator or reaction residues from the polymerization of elastomer-containing polymer solutions in mixing kneaders with one or two stirring shafts. In this case, a low-viscosity polymer solution is firstly treated in an evaporation loop, secondly in an evaporative mixing kneader and thirdly in a degassing kneader. This method is especially suitable for temperature-sensitive polymers that may be treated up to a maximum of 160 ° C.
It is preferred to preconcentrate the dilute polymer solution first in an evaporation loop with contact heat and then metered as a viscous polymer solution in a Verdampfungsmischkneter so that the viscosity in this unit is sufficient to provide the majority over friction, the evaporation energy to over 90% of the with the Polymer solution of supplied fluid (eg solvent) to evaporate. The registered thermal and mechanical energy is used directly for the evaporation of the solvent, wherein the pressure level is adjusted so that the maximum polymer temperature is not exceeded due to the evaporative cooling of the solvent.
From this evaporation kneader, a polymer with about 10% residual moisture content (eg solvent) is discharged and metered into a degassing kneader in order to be evaporated there to the final desired residual moisture content (eg residual solvent concentration).
To improve the degassing process, small amounts of a fluid (eg water) are metered into the degassing kneader and, by evaporation on the surface of the polymer, the mechanical energy introduced for a surface renewal is removed again, so that the polymer temperature can be set exactly (eg. In parallel, the resulting fluid vapor (eg water vapor) in the vapor space as a stripping agent helps to reduce partial pressure and, in contrast to the contaminated hot air of the existing process, can be completely mixed with the solvent be condensed.
The process found is suitable for highly temperature-sensitive and less sensitive polymers, such as for the direct evaporation of butadiene and butyl-based elastomers, such as BR, SBR, SBS, SIS, SBM HBR, NBR or EPDM-derived elastomers and for the evaporation of Copolymer solutions that are directly co-polymerized or mixed from two polymer solutions prior to direct evaporation, such as. B. polymer solutions of mixed SBS and SBR solutions, ie difficult to mix elastomers and plastomers.
Due to the closed system of the dry process, more than 98% of the solvent in the circulation can be recirculated to the polymerization without expensive separation of water and the solvent emissions and the polluted wastewater and exhaust gas quantity can be reduced enormously.
Contrary to the cited prior art, the invention makes it possible, by means of extruders or kneaders, to degas elastomer-containing polymer solutions, especially pure polybutadiene solutions, directly and without any further auxiliary components to any residual solvent contents.
Der Siedepunkt nimmt mit zunehmenden Feststoffgehalt zu, daher das treibende Gefälle ab.In continuous evaporative dryers, the solution to be concentrated is usually introduced at one point and conveyed gravimetrically or with suitable measures over a heated surface, where it boils under the set pressure and thus the solvent is removed. The continuous process control ideally corresponds to that of a flow tube, since the evaporation rate depends on the difference between boiling point and heating surface surface temperature (the driving gradient) and heat exchange coefficient. The boiling point increases with increasing solids content, hence the driving gradient.
In conventional drying, the heat exchange coefficient decreases with increasing solids content, since the viscosity increases with increasing solids content and the heat exchange coefficient decreases with increasing viscosity due to the impeded convection. If solvent is removed from solid solutions or suspensions, in particular polymer solutions or suspensions, in particular elastomer solutions or suspensions, by evaporation of the solvent, the cooking behavior is frequently reversed. The heat exchange coefficient increases with increasing solids content from a critical solids content, since the product foams heavily and the foam wets the heat exchange surface and thus hinders the heat exchange. In very dilute solutions convective transport of the bubbles to the gas surface is not hindered. The solids content hinders this bubble transport. Also, the bubbles become more stable as a foam. It is therefore necessary to mechanically destroy the bubbles.
This occurs automatically at solids levels above 30 to 80% with sufficient levels of concentrated solid solution (high hold up) present. In this case, the solids solution is so viscous that it carries the cooking bubbles to the gas surface by entrainment. This mechanism of action therefore only works if there is sufficient drag flow to the surface. The criteria of adequate Drag flow is equivalent in rotating evaporators to the surface renewal rate.
In addition to the contact heat, the evaporation rate at high solids contents can be further increased because the increased viscosity increases the torque per unit volume of the evaporator and thus the mechanically dissipated power of the rotating shaft. In terms of process technology, the continuous metering of a dilute solution in a concentrated mass corresponds to backmixing. A known patent therefore proposes to evaporate the solution or suspension in a large-volume, self-cleaning, back-mixed kneader. The kneader used here consists of discs or anchors which are mounted on the shaft, which are equipped with kneading bars, which clean the housing and the possibly existing second wave or static elements for the same task of wave cleaning for single-shaft kneader. The discs or anchors divide the product space into mixing zones.
Large volume, self-cleaning kneaders meet the criteria of high surface renewal rate and high hold up. Also, they are designed to handle high viscosities and shaft torques. Another advantage of a large-volume, self-cleaning kneader is that the open design of the conveying elements, which promote the product both in cocurrent and countercurrent, ensures a certain backmixing rate and automatically distributes the product evenly over the length even for viscous products. The degree of filling in the kneader can therefore be controlled via the discharge element. The required back mixing according o. G. Patent should be adjusted over the length of the apparatus and the configuration of the kneading elements. This patent describes a similar application of the large volume, self-cleaning kneader for the reaction (polymerization) of products which become viscous with increasing degree of conversion. The principle of backmixing is advantageously proposed here, since the reaction is exothermic and the cold starting materials are warmed up to reaction temperature by already reacted product. Part of the liquid educts evaporates and, after condensation, is added to the kneader again, the set pressure in the product space controlling the evaporation temperature and thus protecting the product from overheating. If the degree of conversion increases with the degree of conversion, the back-mixing is also advantageous. If one of these evaporation products is more volatile than others, the recipe of the solution is changed by the evaporation, and the backmixing is to counteract this.
For evaporative cooling, the same criteria mentioned above apply, such as high hold up and surface renewal rate, and are thus similar. The proposed backmix also has disadvantages. Since the residence time spectrum of the kneader must be wide, part of the product can remain in the product space for a very long time. It must therefore be ensured in the evaporator that the product is not thermally or chemically damaged during this period. In the case of a product change, either the kneader must be completely emptied and then refilled relatively time-consuming, or fresh product is metered onto the existing batch and relatively large amounts of mixed product of two subsequent product runs are obtained. In polymerizations, the broad residence time distribution is reflected in a broad molecular weight distribution.
The product space of the kneader can be described as a series of mixing zones connected in series. A kneader requires a certain minimum number of mixing zones in order to distribute the mechanical stress that arises when the kneading elements are engaged and to achieve a good mixing effect. However, it has been found in practice that the division of the product space in mixing zones obstructs the mixing in the longitudinal direction of the shaft. This behavior of the kneading space is desirable if the kneader is to have a narrow residence time spectrum. For the largest possible backmixing, this behavior is undesirable.
Attempts have been made to improve the mixing behavior in the longitudinal direction by adapting the mixing element geometry. However, this has had limited success, as a low viscosity, good miscible product is mixed into a viscous mass. If the mixing is generally improved, both the mixing of the feed solution and the mixing in the longitudinal direction improves, wherein the mixing in the longitudinal direction of the viscous mass is always less favorable than the mixing of the feed solution. The residence time distribution of the kneader can be approximately described as a cascade of 100% stirred mixing kettles.
Theoretical considerations as well as practical experiments have shown that the residence time behavior of the kneader used can correspond to a minimum of 3 to 7 stirred mixing kettles. Calculations have shown that this number of mixing boilers in series is too high for many applications, should be practical at 1 to 2 boilers. The practical number of mixing vessels fluctuates depending on the mode of operation. These fluctuations lead to unwanted fluctuations in the operation of the kneader.
The disadvantages of the kneading process described are inventively improved such that the feed solution or the recondensed solution not at one point in the kneader is introduced, but distributed over several feed points.
The spacing of the feed points is according to the invention classified such that each mixing zone has a feed point and is sufficiently mixed back. In practice, 1 to 3 feed sites per 3 mixing zones are necessary to ensure that sufficient back-mixing is present. According to the invention, the proportion of feed for each feed point is either fixed or regulated as a function of a parameter which describes the solids content or degree of conversion.
The procedure according to the invention has the advantage that the residence time distribution is more stable and the product is better exchanged. In the case of products with high kneading energy per mass flow solids, a feed point in the rear part of the product space is particularly favorable according to the invention, since the evaporated solvent has a cooling effect and thus does not overheat the product.
According to the invention, the choice of several feed points also has the advantage that several back-mixed operating points can be driven. So it is possible in the front part of the evaporator efficient contact heat at 30 to 60% solids content with relatively low viscosity to drive, but which is sufficient to destroy the foam mechanically. In the rear part of the apparatus, however, a solids content of 80 to 98% can be set. This increases the evaporation performance, as both mechanical dissipation and contact heat is used.
Also, by adjusting the length where the viscosity should be lower, the degree of filling of the kneader can be raised, which greatly facilitates the discharge of the kneader.
The control of the solids content can be monitored according to the invention by temperature measurements. The total degree of filling is detected by means of the torque of the shaft. In the case of the kneading reactor, the degree of conversion can be detected by sampling over the length of the kneader. These samples also indicate whether the formula is correct for several reactants, so that the evaporated components are replaced in proper composition.
The recipe can be adapted according to the invention in the feed to the feed point. The vapors are discharged from the evaporation or kneading reactor either by a screw which promotes in the opposite direction of the gas stream, or by a Brüdendom. Should foam nevertheless form, it is mechanically comminuted in the screw or, according to the invention, blown back into the product space by a gas flow along the container wall of the dome of the dome and thereby mechanically comminuted.
