Description
The present invention relates to an adhesive composition for adhesive adhesive compounds based on adhesive matrices with at least one expansion substance and at least one degradation reagent. The invention further relates to their use in releasable adhesive bonds and methods for joining or releasing adhesive bonds in means of transport, in particular in aircraft.
In particular, in aircraft increasingly different metallic and / or non-metallic components are joined together by gluing, on the one hand to simplify the production process and to save weight in relation to conventional rivet, screw and / or welded joints. However, in order to be able to repair, replace, scrape or recycle such connected components, these adhesive joints must be loosened again. Often, however, this process is relatively difficult, since the adhesive bonds build up a high bond strength during the application time and thus release of the adhesive bond is possible only under high force, high temperatures or with the aid of chemical agents, the bonded components often being damaged or even damaged be destroyed. Detachable adhesive compositions are known in various embodiments. In general, these compositions consist of an adhesive matrix (also referred to as a binder matrix) and an expansion substance embedded therein. These expansion materials are intended to expand by releasing energy to release the bonded components so as to weaken the adhesive bond, so that the components can be more easily separated from each other. Other compositions contain a degradation reagent which is designed to chemically attack the adhesive matrix so that the adhesive bond can eventually be separated.

However, the release of such bonds often proves to be difficult due to the crosslink density of the cured adhesive, which makes chemical attack by degradation reagents in the adhesive matrix difficult. Furthermore, a high crosslinking density of the adhesive also impedes an expansion of expansion materials contained in the adhesive layer, so that the adhesive bond is weakened only slightly here and detachment of the connected components is possible only with an additional, sometimes considerable mechanical force. In order to avoid such a mechanical force, sometimes very high amounts of expansion substances or degradation reagents, based on the amount of adhesive, are used. Even for very tough adhesives such as polyurethane adhesives usually a large amount of embedded in expansion materials is required to even achieve a sufficient weakening of the adhesive bond and thus a separation of components can. For high performance dissolving adhesives, therefore, the use of expansion materials is often wholly unsuitable. In addition, the surfaces of connected components usually have to be cleaned chemically or mechanically after a corresponding separation in order to completely remove remaining adhesive residues.
Therefore, there is still a need for adhesive compositions for the preparation of releasable adhesive bonds, which develop a sufficient bond strength during the application time in adhesive joints, but at the same time are easy to solve if necessary without residues.
It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide adhesive compositions for releasable adhesive bonds which have sufficient bond strength during the time of use, but which can be readily released as needed, preferably without damaging or destroying the bonded components. A further object is that the adhesive layers, comprising an adhesive composition according to the invention, can be easily removed from the components after dissolution after dissolution without adhesive residues. An additional object is that these adhesive compositions are easy to apply and have sufficient chemical and thermal resistance in the cured form.
The solution of the above and other objects arises from the subjects of the independent claims. Advantageous embodiments result from their combination with the features of the dependent claims.
According to one aspect of the present invention, there are provided adhesive compositions in which an expansion substance is embedded in an adhesive matrix together with a degradation reagent, wherein the expansion substance comprises at least one substance selected from the group consisting of an inorganic expansion substance or an organic expansion substance and the organic Expansion substance azodicarbonamide (ADC), or the inorganic expansion substance comprises expandable graphites (EG) and wherein the degradation reagent comprises at least one substance selected from the group consisting of hydrazides, amines, polyfunctional compounds or mixtures thereof. In this case, the particles of the degradation reagent may be at least partially encapsulated. These adhesive compositions can be applied to any surfaces of components to be joined, particularly in aerospace applications.
Unlike the prior art, the adhesive adhesive compositions of the present invention comprise an adhesive matrix and an expansion agent and a degradation reagent embedded therein, wherein the expansion agent comprises at least one selected from the group consisting of an inorganic expansion agent or organic expansion agent and the organic expansion agent Azodicarbonamide (ADC), or the inorganic expansion material comprises expandable graphites (EG) and wherein the degradation reagent comprises at least one substance selected from the group consisting of hydrazides, amines, polyfunctional compounds or mixtures thereof.
By the joint use of an expansion agent and a degradation reagent, the adhesive compositions of the invention have a number of improved properties. First, it should be noted that the dissolution of adhesive bonds comprising the adhesive compositions according to the invention can be carried out without damaging or destroying connected components or their surfaces. Furthermore, the release of these adhesive bonds without adhesive residues on the surfaces of the dissolved components can be done. Furthermore, the amount of energy required to release the adhesive bonds is reduced compared to conventional adhesive compositions in adhesive bonds. Furthermore, the adhesive compositions have excellent adhesive properties. These excellent adhesive properties are reflected, among other things, in an extended shelf life and Application time again, the bond strength remains constant with increasing duration of the application and so premature release of appropriately connected components is avoided. Furthermore, the adhesive compositions according to the invention also show a lower impairment of the adhesive properties than conventional adhesive compositions.
As the adhesive matrix (also referred to as binder matrix) of the adhesive compositions according to the invention, it is possible to use those matrices which are customarily used in industrial applications and in particular in aviation technology. The adhesive matrix can be selected according to their properties, z. As the bond strength, temperature resistance at high or low temperatures, deformability, elasticity, resistance to moisture, chemicals and mechanical loads to change.
In some embodiments, physically setting adhesives are useful. These include hotmelt adhesives, solvent-based wet adhesives, contact and dispersion adhesives, water-based adhesives and plastisols. Preference is given here to adhesive matrices based on ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymers, polybutenes, styrene-isoprene-styrene or styrene-butadiene-styrene copolymers, thermoplastic elastomers, amorphous polyolefins, linear, thermoplastic polyurethanes, copolyesters, polyamide resins, polyamide / EVA copolymers, polyaminoamides based on dimer fatty acids, polyester and polyetheramides or mixtures thereof.
In other preferred embodiments, reaction adhesives such as polymerization adhesives, polyaddition adhesives and polycondensation adhesives are useful as the adhesive matrix. These include acrylate adhesives, such as. As cyanoacrylate adhesives or methyl methacrylate adhesives, anaerobic curing adhesives, unsaturated polyester resins, radiation curing adhesives, phenol-formaldehyde adhesives, silicone adhesives, silane-crosslinking polymer adhesives, polyimide adhesives, epoxy adhesives and polyurethane adhesives.
A one-component adhesive is understood as meaning adhesive compositions which contain both corresponding adhesive monomers and hardeners, the adhesive hardening due to a change in the ambient conditions. This can be done for example by a temperature increase, access of humidity, exclusion of atmospheric oxygen or contact with the substrate surface. In contrast, two-component adhesives are understood as meaning those adhesive compositions in which the corresponding adhesive monomers and the curing agent are stored separately and are intensively mixed in the correct ratio only before application. With the contact of adhesive monomers and hardener, the chemical reaction to the adhesive polymer starts.
Particular preference is given here to adhesive matrices based on one- or two-component polyurethanes, one- or two-component polyepoxides, one- or two-component silicone polymers, silane-modified polymers and (meth) acrylate and cyanoacrylate-functional reaction adhesives or mixtures thereof.
Particularly preferred embodiments of the present invention comprise one- or two-component polyepoxide adhesives, and one- or two-component polyurethane adhesives and one- or two-component acrylate adhesives, such. As methyl methacrylate adhesives or cyanoacrylate adhesives as adhesive matrix. Furthermore, any adhesive matrix that forms a sufficient uniform blend with the expansion agent and degradation reagent can be used in the present invention.
The adhesive matrix of the adhesive compositions of the invention may be present in an amount of from 50% to 99% by weight, preferably in an amount of from 65% to 99%, and most preferably in an amount of from 80% to 99%, by weight on the total weight of the adhesive composition.
The preferred group of expansion materials for making the adhesive compositions of the present invention include those which expand upon the introduction of sufficient energy. In this case, expansion materials are in particular those substances which expand sufficiently when heat energy is introduced into the adhesive matrix in order to weaken corresponding adhesive bonds. These are understood to mean those expansion substances which decompose upon introduction of energy and thereby form gases such as nitrogen or carbon dioxide and thus lead to an expansion of the expansion substance. However, this also includes those expansion substances which include additional substances which evaporate without decomposition by the introduction of energy and thus likewise lead to an expansion of the expansion substance. These released vapors can in turn chemically attack the expansion substance and, with the release of gases, lead to a further expansion of the expansion substance.
The introduction of energy can in principle by any form of energy, for example by means of increased temperature or inductively through the use an electric field, magnetic field, electromagnetic field, alternating electric field, alternating magnetic field or electromagnetic alternating field, as well as by means of IR, UV or microwave energy. Furthermore, those expansion materials are preferred which expand only at temperatures above the temperature of use of the adhesive. Further, the expansion agents should preferably be non-toxic and / or have poor solubility in the adhesive matrix.
The expansion material according to the invention is distributed in the adhesive matrix such that it is preferably in the places where its action is required. In a preferred embodiment, the expansion substance is distributed as homogeneously as possible in the adhesive matrix in order to achieve the most uniform weakening of the adhesive bond when introducing a sufficient amount of energy to release the adhesive bond. In a further embodiment, however, it may be advantageous for the expansion substance to be distributed unevenly in the adhesive layer, so as to achieve a partial and / or localized weakening of this adhesive bond when introducing a sufficient amount of energy to release the adhesive bond.
Expansion materials are all natural, semi-synthetic and synthetic materials, in particular inorganic and / or organic expansion materials, which exhibit sufficient expansion under the conditions used to dissolve an adhesive bond.
The inorganic and / or organic materials useful for making expansion materials include foamable materials, blowing agents, and intumescent fabrics. Intumescent materials are materials that undergo an increase in volume and / or a decrease in density when exposed to heat.
Organic expansion substances can be selected, for example, from the group consisting of azoisobutyronitrile (AIBN), azodicarbonamide (ADC), dinitrosopentamethylenetramine (DPT), benzenesulfonylhydrazide, N, N'-dinitroso-N, N'-dimethylterephthalamide, p, p-oxy-bis- benzenesulfonylhydrazide (OBSH), p-toluenesulfonylhydrazide (TSH), 5-phenyltetrazole (5-PT), sulfonyl semicarbazides such as e.g. P-toluenesulfonyl semicarbazide (PTSS) or mixtures thereof. This group of organic expansion substances decomposes at a sufficient energy input preferably to form nitrogen and / or volatile hydrocarbons or carbon dioxide, which leads to an expansion of the expansion substance and thus to a weakening of the adhesive bond.
Inorganic expansion materials may be selected from the group consisting of expandable graphites (EG), mica, vermiculite, hydrotalcite or mixtures thereof. This group of inorganic expansion materials preferably includes additional reagents, such as. As acids, which evaporate by the introduction of energy undecomposed, and thus lead to an expansion of the expansion substance. Furthermore, the liberated acid vapors, but also the liquid acid, especially at elevated temperature, can chemically attack the enclosed expansion substance and, with liberation of gases, lead to a further expansion of the expansion substance.
The present invention includes azodicarbonamide (ADC) as the organic expansion substance of the present invention. Alternatively, the present invention comprises expandable graphites (EG) as the inorganic expansion substance according to the invention.
The expansion materials may be in particulate form, these generally having an average particle size of <1 mm, preferably an average particle size of <500 μm, more preferably a particle size of <250 μm and most preferably an average particle size of <100 μm. Preferably, the expansion agents have an average particle size of 1 to 100 microns and more preferably between 2 and 50 microns.
As a further component, the adhesive composition according to the invention comprises at least one degradation reagent. By degradation reagents are meant substances which are activatable by energy input, so that a strong change in the molecular weight and / or crosslink density of the adhesive matrix occurs due to a chemical reaction with the adhesive matrix and leads to a loss of mechanical strength of the adhesive. The main task of the degradation reagent in the adhesive compositions is the targeted at least partial degradation of the cured adhesive matrix upon introduction of a sufficient amount of energy in the adhesive layer of the adhesive bonds, so that the adhesive bonds can be solved easily. In one embodiment, the degradation reagents are distributed as homogeneously as possible in the adhesive matrix in order to achieve the most uniform possible degradation of the adhesive matrix when introducing a sufficient amount of energy to release the adhesive bond. In a further embodiment, however, it may be advantageous that the degradation reagent is unevenly distributed in the adhesive layer in order to achieve only a partial and / or localized weakening of the adhesive bonds when introducing a sufficient amount of energy to release the adhesive bonds.
Suitable degradation reagents are in principle all organic or inorganic compounds, salts, metals, metal compounds or materials which are capable of degrading the respective cured adhesive matrix and exhibit sufficient stability in the adhesive composition. The degradation reagents are preferably in particulate form, wherein the particles of the degradation reagent are protected by attachment of protective groups or complexation with a complexing agent, so that the reactivity of functional groups of the degradation reagent is reduced. However, the particles of the degradation reagent can also be at least partially, preferably completely, encapsulated. For the purposes of the present invention, an encapsulated degradation reagent is understood to mean degradation reagents which are prevented by a coating material or a coating from premature or undesired degradation of the adhesive matrix. As the encapsulant or encapsulant coating material, therefore, it is possible to use those materials which form a shell or layer around the degradation reagent, so as to protect the adhesive matrix from degradation reagents trapped therein before and after curing. In addition, the shell material or coating material of the degradation reagent of the present invention should be thermally stable in a region that is commonly encountered in aerospace to ensure protection of the degrading agent entrapped therein and to avoid premature degradation of the adhesive matrix. Furthermore, the shell material or coating material of the degradation reagent should be removable in a targeted energy input, for example, be breakable or meltable, so that the degradation reagent can be released to release the adhesive bond.
Therefore, in particular those materials can be used as the wrapping material or coating material of the degradation reagent, which do not melt, deform, dissolve or break / tear substantially under load due to pressure, or high or low temperatures, as commonly occur in the aircraft industry.

The extent of the weakening of the adhesive matrix when releasing an adhesive bond can be influenced and varied by the proportion of the degradation reagent, since the achievable weakening of the adhesive bond is dependent on the concentration and the nature of the degradation reagent. By increasing the amount of the degradation reagent in the adhesive compositions according to the invention, correspondingly greater weakenings of the adhesive bonds can be achieved, so that they can be separated more easily.
The content of degradation reagent used in the adhesive compositions according to the invention can therefore vary within a wide range, but in some embodiments should be at most 30% by weight, more preferably at most 20% by weight and most preferably at most 10% by weight. , in each case based on the total weight of the adhesive composition.
The degradation reagent should also be added in amounts so that sufficient weakening of the adhesive bonds or easy removal of adhesive residue can be achieved. Preferably, therefore, the proportion of the degradation reagent is at least 0.5 wt .-%, more preferably at least 1 wt .-% and most preferably at least 2 wt .-%, each based on the total weight of the adhesive composition.
Certain embodiments therefore preferably comprise 0.5 to 30 wt%, more preferably 0.5 to 20 wt%, and most preferably 0.5 to 10 wt% of the degradation reagent, based in each case on the total weight of the adhesive. Composition. By contrast, further embodiments preferably comprise from 1 to 30% by weight, more preferably from 1 to 20% by weight and most preferably from 1 to 10% by weight of the degradation reagent, based in each case on the total weight of the adhesive composition. By contrast, further embodiments preferably comprise from 2 to 30% by weight, more preferably from 2 to 20% by weight and most preferably from 2 to 10% by weight of the degradation reagent, based in each case on the total weight of the adhesive composition.
In certain embodiments, the adhesive compositions preferably comprise at most 60% by weight, more preferably at most 40% and most preferably at most 20% by weight of the expansion agent and degradation reagent, each based on the total weight of the adhesive composition. However, to ensure sufficient degradation of the adhesive matrix to dissolve the adhesive bonds, the compositions should have at least 1 wt%, more preferably 5 wt%, and most preferably at least 7.5 wt% of the expansion agent and degradation reagent include.
The degradation reagents encapsulated according to the invention, wherein the degradation reagent comprises at least one substance selected from the group consisting of hydrazides, amines, polyfunctional compounds or mixtures thereof, can be prepared by all common methods by which the degradation reagent can be encapsulated or coated. In particular, such an encapsulation or coating of the degradation reagent can be achieved by all customary microencapsulation processes, in particular by an interfacial polymerization, in situ polymerization or matrix polymerization. However, other processes for encapsulation or coating of substances, such as fluidized-bed technology, coacervation, spray-drying or sol-gel processes, are also suitable.
Furthermore, miscible additives can be added to the adhesive compositions of the present invention as desired, such as e.g. As hardeners, accelerators, catalysts, additional resins for improving the adhesive properties, thixotropic agents, plasticizers, Toughener, adhesive aids, stabilizers, dyes, surfactants, modifiers, fillers, solvents and the like, which are commonly used in adhesive compositions, but the essential features the composition does not deteriorate.

The adhesive compositions of the invention can be used to connect or disconnect components made of metal, plastic, in particular temperature-resistant plastic, wood, glass, natural or synthetic materials or Composite materials can be used therefrom. They are therefore suitable for the bonding or joining of components in the interior and exterior, of furniture, doors, window frames, industrial components for private and industrial use and components in transport devices of any kind, including aircraft, motor vehicles and ships into consideration. Particularly preferred are applications in the field of aviation technology.
The adhesive compositions of the present invention may thereby be applied directly in the form of a liquid to the components to be joined, forming an adhesive layer of the respective adhesive composition. In one embodiment, the adhesive compositions may preferably be applied only to the surface of a component to be bonded to the surface of another component and then brought into contact therewith. In a further embodiment, the adhesive compositions may be applied to the surface of two or more components to be joined, which are then brought into contact with each other. In another embodiment, first, a layer of the respective adhesive composition may be formed and dried on a flexible film. Subsequently, this dry film can be used to attach / bond the components to be joined.
The application of the adhesive compositions can be carried out in any form which ensures that the adhesives coat the surfaces of the components in the desired manner. For example, the adhesive compositions may be applied to the surfaces by spraying or by a brush or roller or by pouring. Another possibility is that the components to be joined are immersed in the adhesive compositions.
A method for joining components may be that an adhesive composition according to the invention is applied to the surface of at least one component by conventional methods and the components to be connected are brought into contact with each other. The corresponding adhesive bond, comprising an adhesive layer and at least two components, can then by means of elevated temperature or inductively by the use of an electric field, magnetic field, electromagnetic field, alternating electric field, alternating magnetic field or electromagnetic alternating field to a temperature at which the crosslinking of the adhesive matrix used, heated and cured the adhesive composition.
The time interval for curing the adhesive compositions in the respective adhesive compositions may vary depending on the composition and optionally used additives. The duration of curing is in the inductive method in the second to minute range, while in the thermal curing process complete curing usually within a few hours, preferably within 2 hours, can be achieved. Thus, the adhesive compositions of the invention are particularly suitable for the connection of sensitive components.
The composite of components obtained by the curing of the adhesive compositions according to the invention thus comprises at least two components and an adhesive layer in the form of an adhesive bond, the adhesive layer comprising an adhesive composition according to the invention.
The inventive method for releasing the adhesive bond, which is obtainable by curing the adhesive compositions according to the invention, can be carried out such that the cured adhesive layer of the adhesive bond by means of elevated temperature, for. B. in an air oven or inductively by the use of an electric field, magnetic field, electromagnetic field, alternating electric field, alternating magnetic field or alternating electromagnetic field is heated. In a further embodiment, the required energy can also be introduced by means of IR, UV or microwave energy. In the case of energy input by means of microwave energy, the release of the adhesive bond can take place within a few minutes (for example up to 10 minutes).
In these methods, the temperature for activating the degradation reagent and the expansion temperature of the expansion agent should be in temperature ranges that are above the temperatures commonly encountered in aeronautical engineering. In a particularly preferred embodiment, the components can finally be separated from each other by hand. In a further particularly preferred embodiment, the adhesive layer can be finally removed without residues from the connected components.
In a preferred method of releasing the adhesive bond, the adhesive layer in the adhesive bond is heated to a temperature sufficient to activate the degradation reagent, ie, the shell or coating material of the degradation reagent melts, ruptures, or dissolves, releasing the degradation reagent becomes. This can solve the Adhesive bond in the form that the molecular weight of the adhesive matrix is lowered due to a chemical degradation by the degradation reagent and thus can be carried out at a further increase in temperature, a largely unhindered expansion of the expansion in this weakened adhesive matrix. Thus, in this embodiment, the temperature required to activate the degradation reagent is lower than the expansion temperature of the expansion agent. The required temperature for activating the degradation reagent and the expansion temperature of the expansion substance are dependent on the adhesive matrix used or the degradation reagents and expansion agents used.
Preferably, the temperature for activating the degradation reagent is in a range between 120 and 280 ° C, more preferably in a range between 150 and 250 ° C and most preferably in a range between 180 and 210 ° C. The expansion temperature of the expansion substance in this embodiment is preferably in a range between 140 and 300 ° C, more preferably in a range between 170 and 270 ° C, and most preferably in a range between 120 and 230 ° C. The expansion temperature in particularly preferred processes is about 40 ° C higher, more preferably about 30 ° C higher, and most preferably about 20 ° C higher than the temperature used to activate the degradation reagent.
In a particularly preferred embodiment, this method is suitable for very tough adhesive compositions, since weakening of the adhesive bond already occurs due to the degradation of the adhesive matrix, whereby an improved expansion of the expansion substance for releasing the adhesive bond is possible. This method is therefore particularly suitable for adhesive composition based on polyepoxide, polyurethane and acrylate adhesives.
In a further embodiment, in contrast, the adhesive layer of the adhesive bond is heated to a temperature which initially only leads to an expansion of the expansion substance. As a result, the adhesive connection can be released in the form that first the adhesive matrix is weakened by the expanding expansion substance and, after a further increase in the temperature, an activation of the degradation reagent takes place, which makes it possible to degrade the adhesive matrix. Thus, in this embodiment, the temperature required for expansion of the expansion agent is lower than the temperature needed to activate the degradation reagent.
In a particular embodiment, this method can be used to first solve the adhesive bond between connected components and then, after a renewed increase in temperature, to allow the removal of adhesive residues on these components by activating the degradation reagent. The required expansion temperature of the expansion substance, as well as the temperature for activating the degradation reagent, are dependent on the adhesive matrix or the degradation reagents and expansion agents used.
Preferably, the expansion temperature of the expansion substance is in a range between 120 and 280 ° C, more preferably in a range between 150 and 250 ° C and most preferably in a range between 180 and 210 ° C. The temperature for activating the degradation reagent in this embodiment is preferably in a range between 140 and 300 ° C, more preferably in a range between 170 and 270 ° C, and most preferably in a range between 120 and 230 ° C. The temperature for activating the degradation reagent in a particularly preferred process is about 40 ° C higher, more preferably about 30 ° C higher and most preferably about 20 ° C higher than the expansion temperature of the expansion agent. In a particular embodiment, this method is used in particular for less tough adhesive compositions, since expansion of the expansion materials in the adhesive matrix is possible so that the matrix is already weakened, resulting in easier degradation of the adhesive matrix by the adhesive release release reagent is possible.
In another embodiment, the adhesive layer of the adhesive bond is heated to a temperature that results in both expansion of the expansion agent and activation of the degradation reagent. As a result, at the same time degradation of the adhesive matrix by the degradation reagent and expansion of the expansion substance in the matrix for releasing the adhesive bond can take place. In this embodiment, therefore, the expansion temperature of the expansion substance and the temperature for activating the degradation reagent in a similar range, the required expansion temperature of the expansion substance and the temperature for activating the degradation reagent are dependent on the adhesive matrix or the degradation reagents and expansion agents used.
Preferably, the expansion temperature of the expansion agent and the temperature for activating the degradation reagent are in a range between 120 and 280 ° C, more preferably in a range between 150 and 250 ° C, and most preferably in a range between 180 and 210 ° C. The expansion temperature of the expansion substance and the temperature for activating the degradation reagent are in particular by at most about 15 ° C, more preferably at most about 10 ° C and most preferably at most about 5 ° C apart.
The release of the adhesive bonds can be done with commonly used for this purpose devices. The required devices, parameters and device settings depend on the adhesive composition used. Furthermore, the temperature required for dissolution depends on the thermal stability of the particular microencapsulated expansion substance and optional active fillers and their content in the adhesive matrix. Due to the local proximity of the shell material and the optional active fillers to the expansion material enclosed in the shell material, the introduction of the energy and thus also the release of the adhesive bond takes place particularly effectively.

Preferred embodiments of the present invention include one- or two-component polyurethane adhesives as an adhesive matrix, azodicarbonamide (ADC) as an organic expansion agent and carbohydrazide as a degradation reagent, wherein the shell material of the degradation reagent comprises polyureas.
