Description
It is known that in the processing of silk and man-made fibers and yarns, both those that are based on cellulose and, in particular, those that are based on non-cellulose are, considerable difficulties arise on the knitting machines because the threads run through the mechanical stress can be damaged. The damage is mainly caused by that the threads do not slide evenly through the loops and other parts of the knitting machine, but rather spontaneously stick and stick. This can cause thread breakage or, in any case, distortion of the knitted fabric Enter stitches. Another difficulty in the knitting process is that the stitches freshly produced fabrics have no dimensional stability, d. H. do not stay fixed, and in the course the subsequent completion of the work is distorted and damaged by the resulting mechanical stress will. The shortcomings outlined are particularly noticeable in the production of thin tissues that are later exposed to a certain mechanical tension during use, such as z. B. in women's stockings.
The invention now relates to a method for treating silk and artificial threads and Yarns by means of which the difficulties described above are eliminated and for the practice of this Appropriate means for the procedure. The inventive method consists in that the threads and yarns treated with a bath on the knitting machine, which in its simplest form is water, a lubricant and an evaporation retarder of the types described below. The treatment of the threads takes place in such a way that the threads, when they run off the bobbin, through the treatment bath be performed, which is located, for example, in a channel attached to the knitting machine before they get into the actual working apparatus. When we speak of means in the following, we mean concentrated ones Understood preparations that are diluted with water for use on the knitting machine will.
As artificial threads, and yarns that are treated with the method according to the invention except silk can be, come both those based on cellulose and, in particular, those based on non-cellulose Basis are built in, into consideration. The first group consists mainly of esters of cellulose with organic acids such as acetic acid, e.g. the acetate rayon. Among the artificial Threads and yarns that are built on a non-cellulosic basis are those made of polyamide, Polylactam and polyacrylonitrile fibers or threads made from copolymers of acrylonitrile and other poly-

merisationsfähigen Verbindungen, wie z. B. Vinylchlorid
Genannt seien, z. B.

The simultaneous treatment of silk and the artificial yarns and threads of the type indicated or the simultaneous treatment of different artificial yarns and threads that are to be processed into mixed fabrics is also possible. In order to meet all requirements, the following requirements must be taken into account. The threads should be made supple and gliding, whereby the effect should be maintained at least until the thread is processed in the knitting machine. Furthermore, the knitted stitches should remain fixed; whereby the thread must not be chemically changed by the components of the bath, or at least not in an undesirable sense. The bath must also not attack the metal parts of the knitting machines and the lubricants and fixatives applied to the threads must not interfere with the subsequent dyeing and finishing processes; they must therefore be easy to wash out and should not have an annoying odor.
In the case of the agent according to the invention in its simplest form, that is to say, in addition to water and a lubricant, a compound which retards the evaporation of the water, anion-active compounds known in the textile industry as softeners are used as lubricants; used. May be mentioned, e.g. B.

Monoesters of dicarboxylic acids with higher molecular weight aliphatic compounds containing an alcoholic hydroxyl group. Such compounds are derived from higher molecular alcohols, such as ceryl alcohol, octadecyl alcohol, octadecyl alcohol-ß-oxyethyl ether or octadecyl - /? - oxyäthylthioäther, also from N - oxyalkylamides or oxyalkyl esters of higher molecular fatty acid amide, such as N- Q9-Nmit- (oxyethyl) -pal / - Oxyäthyi) -ölsäureamid, N- (2-oxypropyl) -stearinsäureamid or stearic -SS- from oxyäthylester. The dicarboxylic acids with which the named hydroxyl compounds are esterified in a known manner can belong to the aliphatic series or the aromatic series, e.g. B. phthalic acid, succinic acid and maleic acid. Furthermore, condensation products of fatty acid methylolamides and thioglycolic acid, as are obtainable according to French patents 858 459 and 900 068, are also suitable. Those compounds are advantageously used as lubricants which contain an aliphatic unbranched carbon chain having 16 to 18 carbon atoms.
Compounds that delay the evaporation of water are those that boil between 160 and 240 °, but with water vapors, volatile and at least partially water-soluble, neutrally reacting, organic compounds such as alcohols, ketones, ethers or Esters, suitable, preferably those whose boiling point is 200 °, e.g. B. terpene alcohols, which are due to excellent because of their pleasant smell. Mention may be made of borneol, fenchyl alcohol and in particular ci-terpineol or mixtures of such alcohols as are used in commercial products, e.g. B. the pine oil. Of the aliphatic alcohols, which are not so beneficial in terms of smell, are among other 2-ethylhexanol, iso-octanol, trimethylhexanol mentioned.
In addition to these two main ingredients, the agents according to the invention can also contain dispersants, solubilizers, Corrosion inhibitors and buffer substances are added.
As a dispersing agent and at the same time as a fixing agent for the finished knitted stitches, anion-active or ion-free detergent use, e.g. B. sulfonated, 'substituted on the 2-carbon atom by higher alkyl radicals Benzimidazoles, monocarboxylic acid esters of 4-sulfophthalic acid with higher fatty alcohols, fatty alcohol sulfonates, See alkylarylsulfonates or condensation products of higher fatty acids with aliphatic Oxy- or aminosulfonic acids, also salts of fatty acids, such as coconut fatty acid, palmitic or stearic acid, or finally polyglycol ethers, which are derived from ethylene oxide and higher fatty alcohols or fatty amines derive. Lime-resistant dispersants are preferably used.
The addition of a solubilizer has the advantage that the dispersions become more stable and can be more easily diluted. Suitable compounds that are soluble and volatile in water and in organic liquids are monoethers of ethylene 6t > glycol, such as. B. ethylene glycol monomethyl ether or ethylene glycol monoethyl ether.
It is also useful to prevent corrosion of the knitting machines to add corrosion inhibitors to the agents, e.g. B. water-soluble salts 6g of nitrous acid such as the sodium or the dicyclohexylamine salt. Furthermore, the pH value is adjusted to 8 to 10 is advantageous to add such compounds to the means which impart the means an alkaline reaction. This also prevents the treatment liquids from attacking the knitting machines. For the purpose just described, for. B. sodium carbonate or caustic soda can be used. The use of ammonia and low molecular weight water-soluble amines is less favorable because of their strong odor. It is particularly advantageous to keep the alkaline reaction of the agents constant within a relatively narrow range by adding buffer substances such as trisodium phosphate.
The proportions in which the individual components are present in the agents can be specified in fluctuate fairly wide limits. Advantageously, 7.5 to 15 parts are used for 10 parts of the lubricant the evaporation retarder, -4 to 20 parts of the dispersant, 2.5 to 5 parts of the solubilizer, 1.5 to 3.5 parts of the corrosion inhibitor and 1 to 3 parts of the alkaline and buffering compounds for use.
