The invention relates to a novel separation process of C4 hydrocarbon mixtures, as described for. B. incurred in the production of ethylene by pyrolysis. The aim of the invention is to allow a rational and therefore economic process design. It is the object of the invention to completely separate off the copolymerizable main components of a technical C4 mixture from the mixture by reactive means. According to the invention, the main components but-1,3-diene, isobutene and but-1-ene are separated in three successive Copolymerisationsschritten without prior separation from the mixture with the addition of suitable comonomers, catalysts and initiators, the sequence in the separation of isobutene and but-1 -en is interchangeable, and the respective residual gas of a copolymerization step is fed as starting mixture to the next copolymerization step.
Description
The invention relates to a process for the reactive separation of d-hydrocarbon mixtures, the z. Hervorzuheben ist, daß hohe Umsätze von 95—100% erreicht werden und relativ unreineIt is known that buta-1,3-diene can be converted with the aid of alkali metals without or in the presence of activators selectively from butadiene-containing hydrocarbon mixtures in copolymers having different molecular weights. According to DE-OS 2,003,384 a 57% buta-1,3-diene containing C 4 cut using Organomonolithiumverbindungen and in the presence of polyvinyl aromatic compounds such. B. divinylbenzene selectively mixed with styrene. It should be emphasized that high sales of 95-100% are achieved and relatively impure
Über eine weitere Verwertung der Restgase sind keine detaillierten Angaben gemacht worden.C 4 fractions with up to 2 500 ppm buta-1,2-diene, 1400 ppm Allen and 400 ppm aldehydes are used. It is also known from the prior rights DD 154980, 154981 and 154982 and 160 062 that buta-1,3-diene can be reactively converted from the mixture by means of organolithium compounds selectively into polymers or with the addition of anionic polymerizable comonomers into random or block copolymers , whose molar masses and microstructures are controllable by the type of initiators and their concentration and by the solvents used. No further details have been given on any further utilization of the residual gases.
The isobutene shows by far the greatest tendency to polymerization, which manifests itself in the high reaction rate and the high molar masses of the polymers obtained. According to US Pat. No. 3,985,822, liquid "butene polymers" can be produced with the aid of a LEWIS acid and an accelerator if C 4 -reininer gas mixtures with 10-70% isobutene and 10-30% n-butenes are prepared
Depending on the temperature interval and initiator concentration, the molar masses of the copolymers or terpolymers are between 335 and 1,300. The lower the polymerization temperature and the initiator concentrations, the higher the proportion of isobutene structural units in the polymer.
Zur Initiierung der Copolymerisation dienen LEWIS-Säuren bzw. deren Gemische und ein synkatalytisches System aus Diethylaluminiumchlorid und Chloranil.W.Freitag describes in his thesis (Friedrich Schiller University Jena, 1979) the copolymerization of cyclopentadiene and isobutene, the latter being contained in a remaining after the buta-1,3-diene extraction C 4 -Kohienwasserstoffgemisch. To initiate the copolymerization serve LEWIS acids or their mixtures and a synkatalytisches system of diethylaluminum chloride and chloranil.
Hardening reports in his dissertation (Friedrich Schiller University Jena, 1978) on the polymerization of components of the C4 hydrocarbon fraction with different catalyst systems. The starting product is in each case a prepurified product or an extract, in which one or more of the main constituents were previously removed by extraction.
In addition, it is known that but-1-ene can be homo- or copolymerized by means of heterogeneous or homogeneous ZIGLER-NATTA catalysts. Catalyst components are generally halides of trivalent and tetravalent titanium in combination with organoaluminum compounds, often a variety of organic compounds, u.a. from the series of ketones, the carboxylic acid esters and the amines, are added as a third component. These LEWIS bases have the task of increasing the stereospecificity of the catalysts.
Thus, according to US Pat. No. 3,920,621, copolymers of ethylene or propylene with but-1-ene are prepared using C 4 cuts having a BuM-en content of 0.1 to 30% and essentially free of isobutene , Buta-1,3-diene and alkynes. The catalyst consists of TiCl 3 or dialkyl esters of dichlorotitanium acid and of ethyl aluminum sesquichloride in a molar ratio Al: Ti of 0.5 to 5.0. The copolymers obtained in the solvent mainly composed of butene and of E- and Z-but-2-ene have low densities besides (up to 4000000 g / mol) high molecular weights, so that they are excellently suited for special processing purposes such as extrusion injection molding.
All of the processes mentioned here have in common that from a d-hydrocarbon mixture by certain initiators either two components or a component with an added monomers or comonomers are converted into copolymers, without the residual gases are processed purposefully and without intermediate purification.
The aim of the invention is to develop an economical and rational process for the reactive separation of the main components of technical C 4 -hydrocarbon mixtures for the purpose of producing copolymers, wherein the disadvantages of the known processes are eliminated.
The object of the invention is to convert the polymerizable main components contained in technical C 4 hydrocarbon mixtures by reactive separation from the mixture with a comonomer i ,, added to the mixture, products with different properties and thereby save separation processes and an almost complete workup of the C 4 Hydrocarbon mixture to achieve.
Das Verfahren ist weiterhin dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß das jeweilige Restgas eines Copolymerisationsschrittes als Ausgangsgemisch dem nächsten Copolymerisationsschritt zugeführt wirdFurthermore, the synthesis of copolymerization of Bu + RI, 3-diene, isobutene and BuM-ens with different, by the nature of the comonomers and initiators used and the reaction conditions used variable properties such as composition, molecular weight and microstructure possible by the individual reaction steps his. According to the invention, the separation of the main components butene-1,3-diene, isobutene and but-1-en by successive sequential copolymerization without prior separation from the mixture with the addition of suitable comonomers, wherein in a butadiene and the isobutene separation following copolymerization step, the separation of But-1-en from the residual gas of the previous Copolymerisationsschritte takes place, with an added comonomer, which can be polymerized by a complex-coordinative or radical mechanism and with the aid of catalysts that cause a complex-coordinative polymerization or initiators, the radical polymerization cause the order of separation of isobutene and but-1-ene is interchangeable. The process is further characterized in that the respective residual gas of a copolymerization step is fed as starting mixture to the next copolymerization step
A pre-cleaning or separation into individual components prior to the reactive workup eliminates this.
Die Polymerisation kann dabei u.a.In the first polymerization step, buta-1,3-diene is converted from a C 4 cut with an added comonomer and with the aid of initiators which cause an anionic polymerization in copolymers. The polymerization may include

Penta-1,3-dien, Isopren, Piperylen oder2,3-Dimethylbutadien eingesetzt werden.by alkali metal aromatic complexes, by alkali metals and their alloys and by organolithium compounds. Comonomers which may be mentioned are all anionically polymerisable compounds, but preferably vinylaromatics, of which non-limiting examples are styrene, 3-methylstyrene, 4-methylstyrene, α-methylstyrene, p-chlorostyrene, divinylbenzene, 1-vinylnaphthalene and 2-vinylnaphthalene, or dienes, such as eg Penta-1,3-diene, isoprene, piperylene or 2,3-dimethylbutadiene can be used.
B. Naphthalen, in etherischer Lösung, z. The alkali metal aromatic complexes used to initiate the copolymerization are prepared by reacting alkali metals or their alloys with aromatics, e.g. As naphthalene, in ethereal solution, for. The polymerization can be carried out in a manner known per se. It is possible to work in the liquefied C 4 fraction at the respective polymerization temperature under its own pressure reduced by the conomer, the non-polymerizing hydrocarbons acting as diluents, or to use auxiliary solvents such as aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons and also aliphatic and cyclic ethers ,
The copolymerization can be carried out at temperatures of -75 ° C to + 150 ° C, preferably at -10 ° C to +100 0 C at atmospheric pressure or at elevated pressure.
The amount of initiator to be used is determined by the desired molecular weight of the copolymers, since it is a stoichiometric polymerization, which leads to the complete conversion of buta-1,3-diene and the comonomer.
Erfindungsgemäß können Copolymere mit niedrigen Molmassen, z. B. 500 bis 10000, aber auch mit hohen Molmassen, z. B.According to the invention, copolymers having low molecular weights, for. B. 500 to 10,000, but also with high molecular weights, z. B.
The products produced show the same properties as when using pure buta-1,3-diene copolymers, so that even the first step of the process is a rational and economical method to form copolymers of buta-1,3-diene, z , B. buta-1,3-diene-styrene copolymers, without a Butadienextraktion from the C 4 cut is required. The remaining residual gas is essentially free of butadiene.
In a second polymerization stage, isobutene is converted from the residual gas of the first polymerization stage or from a butene fraction remaining after the butadiene extraction with the aid of initiators which cause a cationic polymerization and with cationically polymerizable comonomers in copolymers. Nonlimiting examples of suitable comonomers are vinylaromatics, such as styrene and its ring-substituted derivatives, α-methylstyrene, 1-vinylnaphthalene or 2-vinylnaphthalene, and also acyclic or cyclic dienes, such as isoprene, piperylene, cyclopentadiene. Acids or LEWIS acid mixtures and synkatalytische systems based on organoaluminum compounds are triggered.
The LEWIS acid mixtures, which serve to initiate the isobutene copolymerization, are prepared shortly before the beginning of the polymerization of the components, for. As TiCl 4 and AIBr 3 , prepared. In this case, a co-solvent, for. As a cycloaliphatic hydrocarbon, such as cyclohexane, find use.
The synkatalytic systems also used to initiate the cationic isobutene copolymerization consist of an organoaluminum compound of the type AIR n X 3 -H, where R is an alkyl radical having 1-10, preferably 1 ^ 4C atoms, X is a halogen, preferably chlorine and η is 2 or 1.5, and a co-initiator component, which may be both a halogen or hydrogen halide, an alkyl halide, and a halo or pseudohalogen-containing acceptor.
Nichteinschränkende typische Beispiele für die als Initiatoren eingesetzten Systeme sind AIEt2CI und tert-Butylchlorid oder ,.Non-limiting typical examples of the systems used as initiators are AIEt 2 Cl and tert-butyl chloride or,.
Both components are first combined in the polymerization vessel. In the case of the use of alkyl halides or acceptors, the order of addition to the reaction mixture is irrelevant. The metering of the initiator components is expediently carried out in the form of solutions, it being possible to use aliphatic hydrocarbons, such as heptane, or cycloaliphatic hydrocarbons, such as methyl chloride, methylene chloride or carbon tetrachloride.
The copolymerizations can in turn in a known manner both in substance, ie in the liquefied C 4 cut , as well as in a solvent such as aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, aromatic or halogenated hydrocarbons at temperatures between -100 0 C and + 100 0 C, preferably between -80 0 C and +50 0 C and be carried out at atmospheric pressure or at elevated pressure.
The isobutene copolymers, e.g. As isobutene-a-methylstyrene copolymers or isobutene-cyclopentadiene copolymers, have the same properties as the products obtained using pure isobutene, so that this step of the process is a rational and economical method to add to the said products come.
The residual gas remaining after this process is essentially free of butadiene and isobutene.
After the separation of the main components buta-1,3-diene and isobutene by successive copolymerizations without prior separation from the mixture, but-1-ene is copolymerized with an added comonomer in a butadiene or isobutene separation following polymerization. In this case, too, the residual gas of a copolymerization step was fed as the starting mixture to the next copolymerization step.
But-2-ene copolymerization is carried out with the aid of catalysts which bring about a complex-co-ordinative polymerization and in the presence of comonomers which complex-polymerize polymerisable comonomers. Nonlimiting examples of suitable comonomers are ethylene and α-olefins having 3-10 C atoms as well as cyclic unsaturated hydrocarbons, such as norbornene, vinylnorbornene and dicyclopentadiene.
The polymerization can be carried out, inter alia, by ZIEGLER-NATTA catalysts which are prepared from a transition metal halide of IV. To VI. Group and an organometallic compound of I. to III. Main group are triggered. Halides of the titanium can be used as transition metal halides, while aluminum compounds of the type AIR n X 3 - can be used as metal organo compounds, where R is an alkyl radical having 1 to 10, preferably 1 to 4, carbon atoms and X is a halogen, preferably chlorine. To modify the ZIEGLER-NATTA catalyst, electron donors from the compound classes of amines, ether carbonyl compounds and cycloalkenes can be used.
The copolymerizations can be carried out in a manner known per se. They are possible both in the liquefied C 4 step and using an auxiliary solvent from the series of aliphatic and cycloaliphatic hydrocarbons.
Die Polymerisationstemperaturen liegen zwischen +20 und +1500CvOrZUgSWeISeZWiSChBn +60 und 1000C.The polymerization temperatures are between +20 and +150 0 +60 CvOrZUgSWeISeZWiSChBn and 100 0 C.
When the but-1-ene copolymerization step is carried out in such a way that the but-1-ene from the residual gas of the second polymerization stage is converted into copolymers by means of initiators which bring about radical polymerization and with radically polymerizable comonomers, suitable comonomers are suitable both aromatic vinyl compounds, such as. a. Styren as well as non-aromatic, as u. a. Vinyl acetate or methyl methacrylate.
A copolymerization can u. a. be triggered by organic peroxides, azobisisobutyronitrile or redox systems.
The copolymerizations are likewise carried out in a manner known per se. They are possible both in the liquefied C 4 cut and using an auxiliary solvent from the series of the aromatic hydrocarbon or the aliphatic alcohols and are carried out under elevated pressure. The polymerization temperatures are between +20 and + 150 ° C, preferably between +40 and +100 0 C.
All but-1-ene copolymers prepared by the process of this invention possess the same properties as the products obtained using pure but-1-ene, so that this step of the process is also a rational and inexpensive method to get to the mentioned products.
