Abstract
Description
Způsob výroby transparentních polymerních desek se zvýšenou otěruvzdornostíMethod of manufacturing transparent polymer boards with increased abrasion resistance
Oblast technikyField of technology
The invention relates to a process for the production of transparent polymer sheets with increased abrasion resistance. These boards can be used in applications where they effectively replace standard transparent polymeric materials with low abrasion resistance, especially as pool roofing or filling of commercial shelves.
At present, either acrylate-type thermoplastics are used for these applications, mainly due to their price, or polyester-based thermoplastics, which are more expensive. However, both of these types of materials have poor abrasion resistance, which has a negative effect especially on their frequent maintenance (cleaning, polishing), when this material must withstand the most demanding requirements due to its applications (pool roofing or filling of commercial shelves).
For this reason, these materials are often surface-treated so that their abrasion resistance is as good as possible, while maintaining the useful properties of these polymer sheets. Varnishes are most often used, which can be applied in a relatively thin layer (50 to 15 μm) and then cured by heat (more time and space consuming) or UV radiation (faster and less space consuming). Although this surface treatment increases the cost burden, it nevertheless provides a material with improved abrasion resistance.
Among the main disadvantages of using this system, polymer plate and varnish, there may be a 50 to 15 μm layer of varnish. In case of bending during their application (used especially in the roofing of swimming pools), the cracking of the covering layer occurs, due to the brittleness of the cured material. In this case, this system is insufficient for the required applications.
Podstata vynálezuThe essence of the invention
Uvedené nevýhody a nedostatky dosud známých materiálů využívaných jako výplně obchodních regálů nebo zastřešení bazénů do značné míry odstraňuje způsob výroby transparentních polymerních desek se zvýšenou otěmvzdomostí podle vynálezu. The above-mentioned disadvantages and shortcomings of the hitherto known materials used as fillings for commercial shelves or pool roofs are largely eliminated by the method for producing transparent polymer boards with increased wear resistance according to the invention.
In a method for producing transparent polymer sheets with increased abrasion resistance, a polymer sheet based on a polymer-based thermoplastic or an acrylate copolymer is produced and its surface is provided with an acrylate-based coating with a thickness of 12 to 2 .mu.m. which is then cured by UV radiation.
The essence of the invention lies in the fact that before the formation of the acrylate-based coating, the surface of the polymer plate is activated by the action of the plasma.
Transparentní polymemí desky vyrobené způsobem podle vynálezu vykazují proti konvenčním materiálům využívaným jako výplně obchodních regálů nebo zastřešení bazénů především zvýšenou otěmvzdomost umožňující dlouhodobé použití těchto výrobků a tím i snížené náklady spojené s častou výměnou v případě reklamací.Transparent polymer sheets produced by the process according to the invention have, in particular, increased wear resistance compared to conventional materials used as fillings for commercial shelves or pool roofs, enabling long-term use of these products and thus reduced costs associated with frequent replacement in case of complaints.
The main advantage of the polymer plates produced by the method according to the invention is the possibility of reducing the thickness of the coating layer on the plasma-activated surface allowing their demanding plate applications (bending) and at the same time reducing the cost of the amount of coating consumed. For standard paints, the coating thickness is more than double.

Příklady uskutečnění vynálezuExamples of embodiments of the invention
The surface-treated transparent polymer plates with increased abrasion resistance were made of a thermoplastic based on a vinyl acrylate copolymer and their surface was coated with a UV-cured acrylate-based coating with a thickness of 12 μm.
Prior to the formation of the acrylate-based coating, the vinyl acrylate copolymer thermoplastic sheet was surface-activated by plasma. The plate thus coated was immediately ready for use after 30 to 80 seconds after application of UV radiation.
The use of plasma activation of the acrylate-type thermoplastic board and subsequent coating with an acrylate UV curable coating not only improved the abrasion resistance of the polymeric board while maintaining the useful properties, but also reduced the coating thickness to 12 .mu.m compared to commercially available materials.
The surface-treated transparent polymer plates with increased abrasion resistance were made of a thermoplastic based on a vinyl acrylate copolymer, their surface was activated by the action of a plasma and provided with an acrylate-based coating with a thickness of 2 μm. subsequently cured by UV radiation. The resulting coating layer with a thickness of 2 μm documented a further possible reduction in the thickness of the coating layer on the plasma-activated surface of the polymer plate.
Acrylate-type thermoplastic sheets with increased abrasion resistance produced by the method according to the invention are usable in various applications, where they replace standard polymeric materials, e.g. reduce the cost burden associated with the application of the coating or frequent replacement in case of complaints.
