Abstract
Description
Vynález se týká hydrofilniho kopolymeru, vhodného zejména pro kontaktní čočky a medicinální použiti, a způsobu jeho výroby·The present invention relates to a hydrophilic copolymer, particularly suitable for contact lenses and medical applications, and to a process for its production
Water-swellable elastomers with different equilibrium water contents are known for the production of soft hydrophilic contact lenses and for various medical purposes. For those applications where greater emphasis is placed on good mechanical properties and a water content of about 40% by weight is sufficient, 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (NEMA) has proven to be excellent. However, many applications require highly swellable materials (e.g., permanent wear contact lenses), often with the need for a lower shear module provided sufficient ductility. However, the known hydrophilic polymers at high swellability have mechanical properties so unsatisfactory that they are not usable by themselves. Therefore, thinly crosslinked copolymers of strongly hydrophilic N-vinylpyrrolidone with hydrophobic alkyl methacrylate / Brit have been developed. U.S. Pat. No. 1,514,810], which have better mechanical properties in addition to high swellability. However, they have undesirable extractables. Oiethylene glycol meshacrylate / 2,2-oxydiethanol monomethacrylate, a homologue of 2-hydroxyethyl imethacrylate, which, due to its ether oxygen in the ester chain, is highly swellable, does not have suitable mechanical properties in the crosslinked state and thus cannot be used for some applications.
Uvedené nevýhody odstraňuje hydrofilní kopolymeij vhodný zejména pro kontaktní čočky a medicinální použiti, který podle vynálezu obsahuje ve struktuře svých řetězců 70 až 99,5 %hmot. jednotek odvozených od diethylenglykolmonomethakrylátu, 0,5 až 30 % hmot, jednotek odvozených od vinylických monomerů vybraných ze skupiny esterů a ami^jů kyseliny methakrylové popřípadě akrylové a 0,01 až 2 X hiaot. jednotek odvozených odThese disadvantages are overcome by a hydrophilic copolymer suitable especially for contact lenses and medical applications, which according to the invention contains 70 to 99.5% by weight in the structure of its chains. units derived from diethylene glycol monomethacrylate, 0.5 to 30% by weight, units derived from vinyl monomers selected from the group of esters and amines of methacrylic acid or acrylic acid and from 0.01 to 2% by weight. units derived from

The pH of the abovementioned monoesters content and maintaining the permissible concentration of diesters or diesters of acrylic or methacrylic acid or diamide or diamides, respectively, of acrylic or methacrylic acid, results in a hydrophilic minimally terpolymer of such mechanical properties that it can be used for contact lenses or for medical purposes The pH of the mixture increasingly increases the water content of the final three-dimensional hydrogel by increasing the DEGMA component, and at the proportions of the components according to the invention, hydrogels with good mechanical properties are obtained at an equilibrium water content of 50 to 70% by weight.
The copolymers of the invention have significantly better mechanical properties than the DEGMA homopolymer, often comparable to the mechanical properties of HEMA, in any case satisfactory for the applications of the invention. The copolymers of the present invention are practically free of water-soluble extracts, do not contain ionic groups in their structures, and therefore lower eye protein deposits can be expected compared to copolymers containing, for example, methacrylic acid and its salts. The copolymers of the invention provide a sufficiently high content of equilibrium water in the resulting gel, while maintaining satisfactory optical and mechanical properties, so that they can be used to produce permanent wear contact lenses.
In the following, the invention is illustrated in more detail by way of examples.
