Abstract

Se revelan estructuras poliméricas espumosas para absorber y almacenar fluidos corporales tales como orina, menstruacción y similares. Estas estructuras de almacenamiento de líquido son materiales espumosos poliméricos desplomables de alta succión. Las espumas desplomadas, al entrar en contacto con fluidos acuosos, pueden absorber y expandir estos fluidos aún cuando se contraponen a presiones hidrostáticas significativas. Estos materiales espumosos poliméricos absorbentes comprenden una estructura espumosa polimérica de celdas abiertas interconectadas. En un aspecto, las espumas pueden absorber por lo menos 25 g/g aproximadamente contra una presión de altura hidrostática de 50 cm. En otro aspecto, las espumas de la presente invención tendrán una altura de sorción de caída vertical a 90% de por lo menos 60 cm aproximadamente. Una estructura de espuma polimérica colapsable de celdas abiertas interconectadas la cual, al hacer contacto con fluidos acuosos, puede expandirse y absorber los fluidos, la estructura de espuma polimérica tiene: (a) una capacidad absorbente de absorción vertical de por lo menos 25 g/g aproximadamente a una presión de altura hidrostática de 50 cm; (b) una Altura de Sorción de Colgado Vertical de 90% equilibrio (VHSH) de por lo menos 60 cm aproximadamente; (c) una presión de absorción capilar de por lo menos 45 cm aproximadamente; y (d) una resistencia a la desviación por compresión de aproximadamente 20% o menos cuando es medida bajo una presión de confinamiento de 5.1 kPa. <EMI FILE="99015464_1" ID="1" IMF=JPEG >
