Abstract

技术领域
本发明涉及一种等离子显示面板,并且尤其涉及一种在等离子显示面板的驱动设备中用到的能量恢复电路及其驱动方法。
背景技术
一种等离子显示面板(下文简称为“PDP”)适合于通过用一种惰性混合气体比如He+Xe,Ne+Xe或者He+Ne+Xe等在放电过程中产生的紫外线(147nm)照射磷光材料来显示包括字符或图形的图像。这种PDP可以很容易地制造得薄且大,并且由于近来的先进技术该PDP也提供了改进的图像质量。特别地,在放电过程中壁电荷被集聚在表面上并且电极被保护防止由放电产生的溅射,因此一个三电极AC表面放电型PDP具有低驱动电压和更长的产品使用寿命的优点。
图1是表示传统的等离子显示面板的放电单元的立体图。参照图1,一个三电极AC表面放电型PDP的放电单元包括形成在上部基板10上的扫描电极Y和维持电极Z,及形成在下部基板18上的编址电极X。扫描电极Y和维持电极Z中每一个都包括透明电极12Y和12Z,及具有线宽小于透明电极12Y和12Z线宽并分别形成在该透明电极一侧的边缘内的金属总线电极13Y和13Z。
通常由ITO(铟锡氧化物)制成的透明电极12Y和12Z形成在上部基板10上。由金属譬如铬制成的金属总线电极13Y和13Z通常形成在透明电极12Y和12Z上,并且用于减小由具有高电阻的透明电极12Y和12Z产生的电压降。
上部电介质层14和保护层16被叠放在上部基板10上其中扫描电极Y和维持电极Z被彼此平行的放置在上部基板10内。上部电介质层14集聚有在等离子放电时产生的壁电荷。该保护层16适合于防止由于在等离子放电时产生的溅射所引起的上部电介质层14损害,同时用于提高次级电子的发射效率。该保护层16通常使用氧化镁(MgO)形成。
下部电介质层22和阻隔壁24形成在下部基板18上,该编址电极X形成在下部基板18内。荧光材料层26被应用到下部电介质层22和阻隔壁24的表面上。
该编址电极X在扫描电极Y和维持电极Z彼此相交的方向上形成在下部基板18上。该阻隔壁24呈条形或格子形状用于防止紫外线和由于放电产生的可见光向着邻近的放电单元泄漏。该荧光材料层26被等离子放电时产生的紫外线激发以产生红色,绿色和蓝色之一的可见光。惰性混合气体被注入到由上部基板10和阻隔壁24之间及下部基板18和阻隔壁24之间限定的放电空间内。
这种三电极AC表面放电型PDP被分成多个子场并被驱动。在各个子场期间内,光按照与视频数据的加权值成比例的数量被发射,从而显示出层次。多个子场被次分为复位期、编址期、维持期和消隐期,并被驱动。
这里,复位期是在放电单元上形成均匀壁电荷的期间,编址期是根据视频数据的逻辑值用于产生一个选择的编址放电的期间,维持期则是在产生编址放电的放电单元内用于维持放电的期间。
照这样,驱动AC表面放电型PDP的编址放电和维持放电需要超过数百伏的高电压。因此,为了将编址放电和维持放电所必需的驱动功率降低,就要用到一个能量恢复电路。该能量恢复电路可以恢复扫描电极Y和维持电极Z之间的电压,并且此电压可用于随后的放电过程中所必需的驱动电压。
图2是表示形成在该扫描电极Y上用于恢复维持放电电压的能量恢复电路的电路图。实际上,该能量恢复电路关于中央板电容器(Cp)对称地被放置到维持电极Z上。
参照图2,传统的能量恢复电路包括:一个在平板电容器Cp和源电容器Cs之间连接的电感线圈L;并联连接在源电容器Cs和电感线圈L之间的第一开关S1和第三开关S3;设置在第一和第三开关S1、S3和电感线圈L之间的二极管D5和D6;以及并联连接在电感线圈L和平板电容器Cp之间的第二开关S2和第四开关S4。
该平板电容器Cp代表一个形成在扫描电极Y和维持电极Z之间的电容的等同电路。第二开关S2与一个参考电压源Vs连接,第四开关S4与基准电压源GND相连接。源电容器Cs对在维持放电过程中充入到平板电容器Cp上的电压进行恢复并充电,同时将该充电电压再次提供给该平板电容器Cp。
为此,源电容器Cs具有能充电相当于参考电压源Vs的一半即Vs/2电压的电容量。电感线圈L与平板电容器Cp一起构成了一个谐振电路。第一到第四开关S1到S4控制电流的流向。第五二极管D5和第六二极管D6防止电流的流向反向。另外,分别设置在第一到第四开关S1到S4中内的内部二极管D1到D4同样的用于阻止电流流向的反向。
图3是表示图2中的开关的ON/OFF时序以及平板电容器的输出波形的时序和波形图。
下面在假设T1周期之前平板电容器Cp的充电电压为0v而源电容器Cs的充电电压为Vs/2的情况下对工作过程进行解释。
在T1周期内,第一开关S1接通,从而在源电容器Cs到平板电容器Cp之间通过第一开关S1和电感线圈L形成了一个电流通路。当电流通路形成时,被充电到源电容器Cs中的Vs/2的电压被施加到平板电容器Cp上。此时,电感线圈L和平板电容器Cp形成一个串联的谐振电路,从而该平板电容器Cp被充电到源电容器Cs的电压的两倍的电压Vs。
在T2周期内,第二开关S2接通。当第二开关S2接通时,平板电容器Cp被提供参考电压源Vs的电压。也就是,当第二开关S2接通时,参考电压源Vs的电压值被施加到该平板电容器Cp上,因此防止了平板电容器Cp的电压值变得低于参考电压源Vs的电压值,从而产生静态维持放电。此时,因为在T1周期内平板电容器Cp的电压升高到Vs,在T2周期内从外部施加的电压值可以被降低(也就是,可能减少功耗)。
在T3周期内,第一开关S1被断开。此时,平板电容器Cp保持参考电压源Vs的电压。在T4周期内,第二开关S2被断开同时第三开关S3接通。当第三开关S3接通时,在从平板电容器Cp到源电容器Cs之间通过电感线圈L和第三开关S3形成电流通路,而且源电容器Cs恢复了给平板电容器充电的电压。此时,源电容器Cs以Vs/2的电压进行充电。
在T5周期内,第三开关S3被断开同时第四开关S4接通。当第四开关S4接通时,在平板电容器Cp和基准电压源GND之间形成电流通路,而且该平板电容器Cp的电压降至0伏。在T6周期内,T5的状态被保持给定的时间周期。实际上,在扫描电极Y和维持电极Z上施加的AC触发脉冲可以通过T1到T6的周期循环获得。
然而,根据前述的方式驱动的能量恢复电路存在一个问题,即其生产成本增加了,原因在于该电路中采用的开关元件S1到S4的内电压很高。更确切地说,为第一个节点n1提供的电压来自参考电压源Vs,从而第二开关S2和第四开关S4必须具有高于Vs的内电压。
另一方面,在能量恢复电路正常工作过程中,第二节点n2被提供的电压为Vs。源电容器Cs的充电电压为Vs/2。因此,在能量恢复电路的正常工作过程中,第三开关S3仅仅需要相当于Vs/2的内部电压,此电压通过从施加在第二节点n2的电压上减去源电容器的充电电压得到。然而在能量恢复电路的初始工作过程中,由于源电容器Cs没有被充压,也就是源电容器Cs的电位被设为0伏,所以第三开关S3的内电压就必须被设为高于Vs。而且源电容器Cs以Vs/2的电压进行充电。
实际上,为了使源电容器Cs被充有Vs/2的电压,图3中所示的T1到T6的过程应该重复执行若干次。而且,在此过程中,施加在第三开关S3两端上的电压值从Vs逐渐降为Vs/2,从而第三开关S3的内电压被设定在Vs左右。
此外,第一开关S1仅仅在源电容器Cs的电压被施加到电感线圈L上时起作用。在这段时间,第一开关S1两端的电压差被设为Vs/2。因此,在该能量恢复电路正常工作过程中,第一开关S1所需的内电压仅为Vs/2。然而,当一个基准电位施加到第二节点n2上时,第二节点n2通过电感线圈L和第四开关S4与基准电压源GND相连。在此时间内,由于尖峰脉冲现象,第二节点n2的电压降到比基准电压源GND的电位低的电位。因此,在现有技术中,第一开关S1的内电压设为大约Vs,从而第一开关S1便避免了损坏。也就是,在传统的能量恢复电路中使用的四个开关S1到S4都被设计为内电压高于Vs,这就造成了制造成本的提高。
发明内容
因此,本发明考虑到了上面的问题,并且本发明的目的在于提供一种通过采用具有低内电压的开关元件降低制造成本的能量恢复电路及其驱动方法。
根据本发明为了达到上述目的,提供了一种能量恢复电路,包括:一个等同地形成在放电单元上的平板电容器;一个用于对该平板电容器的电压进行恢复和充电,并将该充电电压再次提供给该平板电容器的源电容器;一个用于为该平板电容器提供放电维持电压的参考电压供给装置;一个设置在该源电容器和该平板电容器之间的电感线圈;一个设置在该电感线圈和该源电容器之间用于形成该平板电容器的充电通路的第一开关;一个设置在该电感线圈和该参考电压供给装置之间用于形成该平板电容器的放电维持通路的第二开关;一个设置在该电感线圈和该源电容器之间用于形成该平板电容器的放电通路的第三开关;以及一个连接在该电感线圈和一个基准电位之间用于形成维持该平板电容器的基准电位的通路的第四开关,其中该参考电压供给装置采用与电感线圈相连接的形式,用以提供一个具有规定斜率的上升脉冲或者一个具有规定电压值的参考电压。

具体实施方式
下面参照附图对本发明的优选实施例进行详细描述。
根据本发明的能量恢复电路包括:一个等同地形成在放电单元上的平板电容器;一个用于对该平板电容器的电压进行恢复和充电,并将该充电电压再次提供给该平板电容器的源电容器;一个用于为该平板电容器提供放电维持电压的参考电压供给装置;一个设置在该源电容器和该平板电容器之间的电感线圈;一个设置在该电感线圈和该源电容器之间用于形成该平板电容器的充电通路的第一开关;一个设置在该电感线圈和该参考电压供给装置之间用于形成该平板电容器的放电维持通路的第二开关;一个设置在该电感线圈和该源电容器之间用于形成该平板电容器的放电通路的第三开关;以及一个连接在该电感线圈和一个基准电位之间用于形成一个维持该平板电容器的基准电位的通路第四开关,其中该参考电压供给装置采用与电感线圈相连接的形式,用以提供一个具有规定斜率的上升脉冲或者一个具有规定电压值的参考电压。
在该平板电容器和该源电容器没有被充电的初始周期内,该参考电压供给装置提供上升脉冲,并在该平板电容器和该源电容器中至少有一个被充电的周期内提供参考电压。
该上升脉冲上升达到具有规定斜率的参考电压。
在提供上升脉冲的期间内,一个按规定斜率逐渐上升的电压对该源电容器进行充电。
对该源电容器进行充电的电压不断升高直到其达到相当于参考电压的大约一半为止。
当上升脉冲被提供时,该上升脉冲的电压值和被充到源电容器上的电压之间的电压差被施加到该第一开关的两端上,而且该第一开关两端上的电压被设定为低于相当于该参考电压的大约一半的电压。
该上升脉冲达到参考电压的时间被设定在20ms到1s的范围内。
本发明的能量恢复电路还包括:一个设在第一开关和电感线圈的公共端与该参考电压供给装置之间的第七二极管,用于限定施加在此共同终端上的电压低于该参考电压;一个设在该公共端和一个基准电压源之间的第八二极管,用于限定施加在该共同终端的电压高于该参考电压。
一种用于驱动本发明的能量恢复电路的方法包括下列步骤:在能量恢复电路的初始工作阶段提供一个以规定的斜率上升的上升脉冲;并且由该上升脉冲以低于其电压值的电压逐渐对源电容器进行充电。
当该上升脉冲升高至参考电压时,对源电容器以相当于该参考电压的大约一半的电压进行充电。
该上升脉冲的斜率被设定使得通过从该上升脉冲的电压值上减去一个充给源电容器的电压所得到的电压被维持在低于相当于该参考电压一半的电压。
上升脉冲达到该参考电压的时间被设定在20ms到1s的范围内。

图4是表示根据本发明的一个实施例的能量恢复电路的电路图。图4表示一个形成在扫描电极Y上的能量恢复电路,其中另一个能量恢复电路形成在维持电极Z上以关于中央平板电容器(Cp)对称放置。
参照图4,该能量恢复电路包括:一个连接在一个平板电容器Cp和一个源电容器Cs之间的电感线圈L,并联连接在该源电容器Cs和该电感线圈L之间的第一开关S1和第三开关S3,被设置在第一和第三开关S1,S3和该电感线圈L之间的二极管D5和D6,并联连接在该电感线圈L和该平板电容器Cp之间的第二开关S2和第四开关S4,以及一个连接到第二开关S2的参考电压供给装置30。
该平板电容器Cp相当于一个形成在该扫描电极Y和该维持电极Z之间的电容器的等同电路。该第二开关S2与该参考电压供给装置30相连接,第四开关S4与一个基准电压源GND相连。该源电容器Cs对维持放电过程中充给该平板电容器Cp的电压进行恢复并充电以将该充电电压再次提供给该平板电容器Cp。
为此,该源电容器Cs具有能够充电相当于参考电压一半即Vs/2的电压的电容量。该电感线圈L与平板电容器Cp一起构成一个谐振电路。该第一到第四开关S1到S4控制电流的流向。第五和第六二极管D5和D6用于防止电流反向。另外,分别设置在第一到第四开关S1到S4内的内部二极管D1到D4也用于防止电流反向。
同样地,根据本发明的一个实施例的第一开关到第四开关S1到S4的工作时序与图3中所示的现有技术相同,此处就不再进行详细的说明。
当该能量恢复电路正常工作时,该参考电压供给装置30为第二开关S2提供一个参考电压Vs的电压值。如图5所示,在能量恢复电路的初始工作周期内,该参考电压供给装置30提供一个按照规定的斜率上升至Vs的电压。
更确切地,在该能量恢复电路的初始工作周期内(源电容器Cs的充电电压为0伏),该参考电压供给装置30提供一个按照规定的斜率逐渐上升至Vs的电压。在这个时间内,从该参考电压供给装置30提供的电压被施加到第二节点n2上,从而一个大小逐渐上升至Vs/2的电压为该源电容器Cs充电。在本发明中,从该参考电压供给装置30提供的电压的斜率被设定使得被施加到第二节点n2上的电压值与充电给该源电容器Cs的电压值之间的电压差(ΔV)可以被设定在低于Vs/2的电压。因此,根据本发明的实施例,第三开关S3的内电压可以被保持为约Vs/2。
实际上,如图6中的仿真结果所示,在参考电压供给装置30所提供的电压值逐渐上升到Vs的情况下,第三开关S3两端的电压差可以保持低于Vs/2。因此,(此时,该能量恢复电路正常工作)在本发明中该第三开关S3的内电压可以大大低于现有技术中的电压,从而降低了生产成本。另一方面,在本发明中,该参考电压供给装置30所提供的电压上升至Vs的时间被设定在从20ms(毫秒)到1s(秒)的范围内。
另外,本发明进一步包括一个连接在该参考电压供给装置30和该第二节点n2之间的第七二极管D7;以及一个连接在该基准电压源GND和该第二节点n2之间的第八二极管D8。
当第二节点n2处的电压高于参考电压Vs时第七二极管D7导通。即,在第二节点n2上所施加的电压高于参考电压Vs时第七二极管D7导通,于是阻止了第二节点n2的电压上升至高于参考电压Vs。
当第二节点n2处的电压低于基准电压GND时第八二极管D8导通。即,在第二节点n2上所施加的电压低于基准GND时,第八二极管D8导通,于是阻止了第二节点n2的电压降到低于基准电压GND。因此,第二节点n2的电压总是限定在参考电压Vs和基准电压GND之间。
因而,当第二节点n2的电压被限定在参考电压Vs和基准电压GND之间时,具有大约Vs/2内电压的开关被使用作为第一开关S1。更确切地,施加在第一开关S1两端的电压值由源电容器Cs和第二节点n2决定。在此,第一开关S1仅当源电容器Cs的电压被施加到电感线圈L上时使用,并且第一开关S1两端的电压差设定为Vs/2。然而,在现有技术中,由于第二节点n2的电压下降至低于基准电位GND的电压,从而第一开关S1必须具有一个较高的内电压。与现有技术相反,根据本发明,第二节点n2的电压没有下降到基准电位GND的电压,从而第一开关S1的内电压可以降低,因此降低了生产成本。
如上所述,在根据本发明的能量恢复电路及其驱动方法中,该能量恢复电路被提供一个逐渐上升至参考电压的电压,使得开关的内电压可以降低,从而降低了生产成本。另外,电感线圈的一个侧面端子的电压范围被限定在基准电位和参考电压之间,从而开关的内电压便可降低,同样的也降低了生产成本。
本发明在上面进行了详细的介绍,显然本发明可以以多种方式进行改变。这些改变并不认为脱离本发明的宗旨和范围,而且这些修改对于本领域的技术人员而言将是很显然的并且这些修改将被所附权利要求的范围所包含。
Claims (12)
1、一种能量恢复电路,包括:
一个等同地形成在一个放电单元上的平板电容器;
一个用于平板电容器电压的恢复和充电,并将充电电压再次提供给该平板电容器的源电容器;
一个用于为该平板电容器提供一个放电维持电压的参考电压供给装置;
一个设置在该源电容器和该平板电容器之间的电感线圈;
一个设置在该电感线圈和该源电容器之间用于形成该平板电容器充电通路的第一开关;
一个设置在该电感线圈和该参考电压供给装置之间用于形成该平板电容器放电维持通路的第二开关;
一个设置在该电感线圈和该源电容器之间用于形成该平板电容器放电通路的第三开关;及
一个连接在该电感线圈和该基准电位之间用于形成维持该平板电容器基准电位的通路的第四开关;
其中该参考电压供给装置是以与该电感线圈相连接的方式被放置,用于提供一个具有规定斜率的上升脉冲或者一个具有规定电压值的参考电压。
2、如权利要求1所述的能量恢复电路,其中该参考电压供给装置在该平板电容器和该源电容器没有被充电的初始周期内提供上升脉冲,而在该平板电容器和该源电容器中至少有一个被充电的周期内提供参考电压。
3、如权利要求1所述的能量恢复电路,其中该上升脉冲以规定的斜率上升至参考电压。
4、如权利要求3所述的能量恢复电路,其中在上升脉冲提供的期间内该源电容器被一个按规定斜率逐渐上升的电压充电。
5、如权利要求4所述的能量恢复电路,其中充到该源电容器上的电压一直上升至相当于该参考电压大约一半的电压。
6、如权利要求4所述的能量恢复电路,其中当上升脉冲被提供时,上升脉冲的电压值和对源电容器充电的电压之间的电压差被施加在第一开关两端,而且该第一开关两端的电压设定为低于相当于该参考电压大约一半的电压。
7、如权利要求3所述的能量恢复电路,其中上升脉冲上升至参考电压的时间被设定在20ms到1s的范围内。
8、如权利要求1所述的能量恢复电路,还包括:
一个设置在第一开关与电感线圈的公共端和该参考电压供给装置之间用于将施加到该公共端的电压限定为低于该参考电压的第七二极管;
一个设置在该公共端和基准电压源之间用于将施加在该公共端上的电压限定为高于该参考电压的第八二极管。
9、一种用于驱动能量恢复电路的方法,包括下列步骤:
在能量恢复电路的初始工作过程中,提供一个按规定斜率上升的上升脉冲;及
由该上升脉冲以一个低于该上升脉冲电压值的电压为源电容器逐渐充电。
10、如权利要求9所述的方法,其中当上升脉冲上升至参考电压时,该源电容器被一个相当于该参考电压大约一半的电压充电。
11、如权利要求9所述的方法,其中该上升脉冲的斜率被设定使得通过从该上升脉冲电压值上减去充给源电容器的电压所得到的电压保持低于相当于该参考电压的一半的电压。
12、如权利要求10所述的方法,其中该上升脉冲上升到该参考电压的时间被设定在20ms到1s的范围内。
