主要是由于其在纸浆和造纸工业中的广泛应用。处理前必须将桦树皮从木材去除,并因此它是该工业的丰富的残留物。事实上,一家造纸厂每年可以生产约28,000吨桦树皮。迄今为止,桦树皮一直被认为是低价值残留物,主要用于纸浆和造纸工业的能源产生。然而,桦树皮含有大量各种有价值的化合物,诸如白桦脂醇/白桦脂酸和木栓质,使桦树皮成为用于开发可持续聚合物的理想候选者。特别是,木栓质是开发生物基材料的重要原料,因为其高含量的脂肪族化合物可以赋予所生产的聚合物重要的物理和生物活性属性。
在植物中,木栓质包含长链脂肪酸、芳族化合物和甘油的网状结构。值得注意的是,除了丰富的羧酸基团外,木栓质中的长链脂肪酸通常具有另外的官能团,这使它们成为开发新型聚合物的有吸引力的构建单元。
已经存在用于生产基于木栓质单体的聚合物的方法。然而,现有方法存在许多缺点。其一,它们不能提供交联的木栓质基聚合物。De Oliveira,Hugo,et al.,“All naturalcork composites with suberin-based polyester and lignocellulosic residue”,inIndustrial Crops and Products,109(2017):843–849,实际上仅公开了这种非交联弹性体材料。此外,所需的加工步骤和所需的添加剂通常增加了生产成本。因此,需要改进的基于木栓质单体的弹性体材料,以及改进的聚合木栓质单体的方法。
发明内容
根据本发明,提供了一种可使用生物炼制方法获得的弹性体材料,该方法基于温和条件,诸如低于100℃的反应温度,以及使用稀释的酸/碱,和无毒、可生物降解溶剂以从桦树皮中分离有价值的组分。该工艺产生三种级分:富含白桦脂醇的级分、富含木质素-碳水化合物的级分和木栓质单体级分(见图1)。
本发明的弹性体材料可使用聚合木栓质单体的方法获得,该方法包括以下连续步骤
a)提供粉状桦树皮;
b)去除提取物以获得包含木栓质的级分;
c)碱水解所述包含木栓质的级分,由此木栓质被分解成木栓质单体;
d)酸化包含木栓质单体的级分,由此所述木栓质单体被质子化;
e)提取所述木栓质单体,由此将质子化的木栓质单体与亲水性化合物分离;
f)使所述木栓质单体熔融;和
g)使熔融的单体聚合,
其中在所述聚合过程中不存在添加的催化剂,并且其中获得的弹性体材料是交联的。
可通过该方法获得的弹性体的好处在于它不是源自化石燃料,并且与天然橡胶相反,根据本发明使用的原料不与农业资源竞争,也不使用来自热带雨林的资源。
先前,酶如脂肪酶Novozyme 435已用于在甲苯中聚合环氧化木栓质单体。由于此类酶可以特异性催化末端羟基基团与羧酸基团的反应,因此该工艺将导致形成具有完整环氧基团的线性聚合物链。然而,这种方法需要将酶和聚合物分离,因此使工艺更加复杂,并且通过这种工艺获得的材料相当脆。相反,根据本发明的方法,仅使用良性溶剂并且不需要另外的催化剂,因此使得该方法是环境友好的。此外,虽然酶促聚合导致形成线性聚合物,但根据本发明使用的聚合条件允许在所有可用的羟基和羧基基团之间形成酯键。因此,本发明的弹性体材料由木栓质单体的网状结构组成。基于木栓质的弹性体的表征表明了一种在酸性和碱性条件下稳定并且不溶于普通有机溶剂的疏水材料。
现将参考附图描述本发明,然而无论如何不应将其视为以任何方式限制保护范围。本领域技术人员意识到可以进行修改,这将在保护范围内。

图3涉及聚合木栓质单体的方法。通过熔融加工从分离的木栓质单体合成完全生物基材料。A根据NMR数据计算分离的木栓质单体中存在的COOH基团与OH基团的比率(见图2)。B分离的木栓质单体的DSC熔融曲线。C提出的形成基于木栓质的弹性体的反应方案。如果反应在开放体系中发生且高于100℃,则反应过程中形成的水立即蒸发。D产生的弹性体的图像。材料的高柔韧性通过首先将其大幅弯曲,并然后让材料松弛到其原来的状态来证明。E产生的弹性体的FT-IR光谱。3600-3100cm-1之间的区域被指定为OH振动,并且1733cm-1处的峰代表COOR振动。为了比较,示出了分离的木栓质单体的光谱。
图4示出了根据本发明的木栓质基弹性体的机械性能。制备了本发明的弹性体的矩形试样。基于源自单独生产的材料的数据计算平均值和标准偏差。A拉伸测试。以1mm/mm的速率记录应力应变曲线直至材料失效。计算杨氏模量、拉伸强度和最终伸长率。B动态机械分析。首先,将材料冷却并在-60℃下平衡。然后,以3℃/min升温至70℃。示出了储能和损耗模量。还示出了损耗因子(tanδ)的变化。示出了储能模量的起始温度(T起始)、损耗模量的峰值温度(T峰值)、tanδ的T峰值和tanδ>0.3(TTanδ>0.3)的温度范围。
图5示出了本发明的基于木栓质的弹性体的热行为。在氮气或氧气气氛下研究弹性体的热稳定性。基于源自单独生产的材料的数据计算平均值和标准偏差。A氮气气氛下的热重分析。在以10℃/min升温至700℃的同时监测弹性体的重量。还示出了重量损失导数(DTG)。对于每个降解阶段,示出了重量损失、重量损失的起始温度(T起始(5%))及其结束温度(T结束)。B氧气气氛下的差示扫描量热法。跟踪样品的热流,同时以10℃/min从50℃升温至500℃。对于每个降解阶段,示出起始温度(T起始(5%))。
图6示出了要求保护的木栓质基弹性体对不同有机溶剂的耐受性。将具有规定重量的要求保护的弹性体样品浸入不同的有机溶剂中并在65℃下温育3h。然后去除溶剂,干燥材料并测量干燥的材料的重量。描述了相对重量的平均值和标准偏差。
具体实施方式
本发明提供了可通过聚合木栓质单体的方法获得的弹性体材料,该方法包括以下连续步骤
a)提供粉状桦树皮;
b)去除提取物以获得包含木栓质的级分;
c)碱水解所述包含木栓质的级分,由此木栓质被分解成木栓质单体;
d)酸化包含木栓质单体的级分,由此所述木栓质单体被质子化,从而使所述木栓质单体更疏水;
e)提取所述木栓质单体,由此将质子化的木栓质单体与亲水性化合物分离;
f)使所述木栓质单体熔融;和
g)使熔融的单体聚合,
其中在所述聚合过程中不存在添加的催化剂,并且其中获得的弹性体材料是交联的。
不存在添加的催化剂应被解释为还包括不存在任何添加的酶。
在步骤b)中,优选地通过乙醇提取,随后蒸发乙醇获得包含木栓质的级分。
在步骤c)中,碱水解优选地在60-90℃例如70-80℃的温度下进行1-5小时,例如2-4小时。
在步骤c)中,在碱水解之后,可以过滤包含木栓质单体的溶液以去除未水解的组分,即木质素和碳水化合物。这种过滤不是必需的,但可以促进接下来的处理步骤,特别是步骤e)中的相分离。
在步骤d)中,将级分酸化至2-5范围内的pH,优选3–4范围内的pH。
步骤e)中的提取可以用选自由二氯甲烷、氯仿、二***、甲基叔丁基醚、辛醇、壬醇、癸醇、甲苯组成的组的溶剂进行,优选地用甲基叔丁基醚进行,然后蒸发。提取步骤优选地进行两次。
作为步骤e)的最后一部分,可以将木栓质单体干燥。干燥可以通过旋转蒸发来实现。
在步骤f)的熔融过程中,温度可以在70-90℃的范围内,优选75-85℃。
在步骤f)中,被熔融的木栓质单体占被熔融的材料的至少95%。
分离木栓质单体
在本发明的一方面,碾磨桦树皮并用乙醇提取白桦脂醇和其他三萜类化合物。剩余的残留物是木栓质、木质素和碳水化合物的复合体。为了从该残留物中释放木栓质单体,在乙醇/水(9:1)中的0.5M NaOH中进行碱水解。通过过滤将木栓质单体与木质素碳水化合物复合体分离。然后用0.5M硫酸使木栓质单体质子化,并随后使用甲基叔丁基醚进行提取。产率由所有级分的干重计算,并作为相对于所用碾磨的树皮量的相对值给出。对于通过FT-IR和NMR对单独的级分的表征,参考图2。
木栓质主要由含有羟基和羧酸基团的脂肪族化合物组成。FT-IR和NMR光谱用于验证提取物中是否存在这些官能团(图2A和B以及图3A)。这些方法用于定义材料的结构“指纹”,允许快速批次间比较,确保本文公开的发明方法的重现性。这些技术与GC-MS相补充,以鉴定和定量分离的木栓质级分中的主要化合物。结果发现,木栓质级分含有链长为C10-C30的单体,其中C18化合物最丰富。此外,我们发现~69%的木栓质单体是羟基化单羧酸,以及约~28%的木栓质单体具有两个羧酸基团。鉴定了特定的木栓质单体。重要的是,许多已鉴定的木栓质单体具有多于两个的官能团,因此允许由分离的木栓质单体形成交联聚合物。
聚合和初始弹性体表征
差示扫描量热法(DSC)实验显示,分离的木栓质单体在低于90℃下熔融(图3B)。因此,可以首选将木栓质单体熔融,并然后在120℃下聚合。使用开放体系使反应过程中形成的水蒸发(图3C)。本发明的方法包括的聚合是热诱导的和/或通过缩聚进行的。
获得的弹性体材料
使用本发明的方法,获得了全生物基、高柔性的弹性体材料(图3D)。为了监测聚酯的形成,使用FT-IR光谱(图3E)。我们观察到在我们分离的木栓质级分的光谱中普遍存在的羧酸峰(1715cm-1)朝向酯峰(1730cm-1)完全峰移。此外,弹性体在羟基振动区(3100-3500cm-1)几乎没有吸光度。总之,这表明绝大多数羟基基团和羧酸基团已经反应形成酯键。
机械和热性能
研究了弹性体材料的机械性能。使用拉伸测试发现,弹性体显示出~1MPa的拉伸强度,这与天然橡胶处于同一数量级(图4)。接下来,使用DMA研究本发明的弹性体材料的热机械性能。观察到储能模量的起始温度在约-27℃,并且发现损耗模量的峰值温度为-19℃。DMA还可用于评价通过损耗因子或tanδ表征的材料的阻尼特性。大于0.3的损耗因子表示良好的阻尼特性。对于本发明的木栓质基弹性体材料,在-16℃至13℃的温度范围内观察到大于0.3的损耗因子,峰值在约-3.6℃。相比之下,已知天然橡胶的损耗因子具有的峰值温度为约-50℃,这不在许多日常应用的工作范围内。值得注意的是,本发明的木栓质基弹性体材料的有效阻尼温度高得多,因此使其更适合多种应用。
还使用TGA监测木栓质基弹性体的热稳定性。本发明的材料显示出两步降解行为,次要降解阶段的起始温度为约217℃(DTG峰在262℃),并且主要降解阶段的起始温度为355℃(DTG峰在426℃)(图5)。此外,本发明的木栓质基弹性体的热降解产生约8%的灰分含量。值得注意的是,与本发明的材料相比,天然橡胶的稳定性较低,其主要降解步骤的DTG峰在低于400℃。
最后,使用DSC监测本发明的弹性体对氧化的敏感性。结果发现,在氧气气氛中,本发明的材料没有结晶或熔融,而是在约227℃开始降解(图5)。此外,在高于367℃时观察到第二个主要降解步骤。值得注意的是,这些降解温度与在氮气气氛下进行的TGA实验中发现的温度相似。因此,本发明的弹性体看起来不易氧化。DSC实验中未出现熔融峰表明形成交联弹性体,这与提出的通过酯键连接的木栓质单体网络的形成一致。此外,我们还观察到要求保护的弹性体不溶于许多有机溶剂,表明确实存在交联聚合物(图6)。综上所述,所提供的数据表明,本发明的全生物基弹性体材料比天然橡胶更稳定,并且这种稳定性源自本发明的弹性体的网状结构。
因此,要求保护的可使用本文所述的方法获得的弹性体材料,其特点是它是交联的。弹性体材料的进一步特点在于木栓质单体具有的碳链长度在10至30,优选16至24的范围内。白桦脂醇、白桦脂酸和阿魏酸可被认为是木栓质单体组的一部分。在这种情况下,木栓质单体具有的碳链长度为10至30。当白桦脂醇、白桦脂酸和阿魏酸不被认为是木栓质单体组的一部分时,木栓质单体具有的碳链长度为16至24。
使用本文所述的方法可获得的弹性体材料可以具有
0.9-10MPa的拉伸强度。
可通过本文公开的方法获得的弹性体材料的损耗因子在-20℃至20℃例如-10℃至10℃的温度范围内具有最大值。弹性体材料在使用差示扫描量热法的熔融实验中没有显示出熔融峰。弹性体材料在高于250℃的温度下进一步显示DTG峰。
实施例
材料和方法
材料
如果没有另外说明,则化学品购自Sigma-Aldrich(瑞典)。桦树皮由Johansson实验室(纤维和聚合物技术部,KTH,斯德哥尔摩)提供。
桦树皮的生物炼制
使用Mixer Mill MM 400(Retsch)将桦树皮切割并研磨成粉末。通过进行Soxhlet提取20h,用乙醇分离提取物。通过使用旋转蒸发器蒸发乙醇并风干获得提取的级分。将Soxhlet提取的残留物干燥,并然后使用在乙醇/水(9:1)中的0.5M NaOH在75℃下进行碱水解1.5h。然后,过滤该混合物并干燥代表木质素-碳水化合物级分的滤饼。含有水解的木栓质单体的过滤的溶液用0.1M硫酸酸化至~3.5的pH。随后,用甲基叔丁基醚提取木栓质单体两次。最后,蒸发溶剂并将木栓质单体风干。为了监测质量平衡,测量了所有干燥的分离级分的重量。
获得的桦树皮组分的分析
傅里叶转换红外光谱(FT-IR)
在配备有单反射衰减全反射附件单元(Graseby Specac LTD)的Perkin-ElmerSpectrum 2000仪器(Norwalk,CT)上采集FT-IR光谱。光谱是从4000cm-1至600cm-1以4cm-1的分辨率记录的16次扫描的平均值。
核磁共振波谱(NMR)
为了记录H1-NMR波谱,首先将样品溶解在氘化氯仿或氘化DMSO中。然后在AM 400(Bruker)上以400MHz记录NMR波谱,并将残留溶剂峰用作参考(对于CDCl3,δ=7.26;对于D6-DMSO,δ=2.5)。
木栓质基弹性体的制备与表征
使用差示扫描量热法(DSC)测试分离的木栓质单体混合物的熔融加工。将约30mg的木栓质单体转移至40μL铝坩埚中,并使用配备有气体控制器GC100(Mettler Toledo)的DSC-1仪器记录DSC数据。样品在N2气氛中以1℃/min的加热速率从30℃加热至100℃。为了合成木栓质基弹性体,将分离的单体混合物溶解在乙醇中,并将溶液转移到聚四氟乙烯培养皿(Cowie Technology)中。将样品在120℃下温育60h。使弹性体冷却至室温,随后用乙醇去除未反应的木栓质单体。最后,将弹性体风干。
为监测聚酯形成,如上所述记录弹性体的FT-IR光谱。通过将规定重量(25-45mg)的样品在具有不同pH值(pH 0;4;7;11;13)的溶液中在65℃下温育168h来监测产生的弹性体对酸性和碱性条件的耐受性。然后,去除溶液并将每个样品用水洗涤一次并用乙醇洗涤两次。之后,干燥样品并测量每个样品的重量以确定质量损失。为了测试产生的弹性体在不同有机溶剂中的溶解度,将规定重量(20-50mg)的样品浸入有机溶剂中并在65℃下温育3h。然后,去除溶剂,干燥每个样品并测定每个样品的重量以监测重量损失。通过使用CAM200接触角计(KSV Instruments LTD)监测其水接触角来评估弹性体的疏水性。将3μL MilliQ水滴到样品表面,并在10s后测量接触角。
机械性能
为了评估产生的木栓质基弹性体的机械性能,制备长与宽比大于1:5的矩形试样。使用应变率为0.1mm/mm的Instron 5944监测应力-应变行为。使用Q800(TAInstruments)在拉伸模式下以1Hz的频率和0.5%的应变进行动态机械分析(DMA)。首先,将试样冷却至-60℃,并在10min后,以3℃/min的加热速率升温至80℃。
热性能
使用DSC和热重分析(TGA)研究合成的木栓质基弹性体的热性能。对于DSC测量,将约5-15mg的材料置于40μL铝坩埚中,并使用配备有气体控制器GC100(Mettler Toledo)的DSC-1仪器记录DSC数据。样品在N2或O2气氛中以10℃/min的加热速率从30℃加热至500℃。使用TGA851e仪器(Mettler Toledo)进行TGA。将至多20mg的产生的弹性体置于铝盘中,并在氮气气氛下以10℃/min的加热速率将样品从30℃加热至650℃,并记录重量损失。使用STARe Excellence软件(Mettler Toledo)分析数据。
Claims (14)
1.可通过聚合木栓质单体的方法获得的弹性体材料,所述方法包括以下连续步骤
a)提供粉状桦树皮;
b)去除提取物以获得包含木栓质的级分;
c)碱水解所述包含木栓质的级分,由此木栓质被分解成木栓质单体;
d)酸化包含木栓质单体的级分;
e)提取所述木栓质单体;
f)使所述木栓质单体熔融;和
g)使熔融的单体聚合,
其中在所述聚合过程中不存在添加的催化剂,并且其中获得的弹性体材料是交联的。
2.根据权利要求1所述的弹性体材料,其中,在步骤b)中,在乙醇提取,随后蒸发乙醇之后获得所述包含木栓质的级分。
3.根据权利要求1-2中任一项所述的弹性体材料,其中,在步骤c)中,所述碱水解在60-90℃的温度下进行1-5小时的时间。
4.根据权利要求1-3中任一项所述的弹性体材料,其中,在步骤c)中,在所述碱水解之后的前面步骤中,将包含木栓质单体的溶液过滤以去除未水解的组分。
5.根据权利要求1-4中任一项所述的弹性体材料,其中,在步骤d)中,将所述级分酸化至2-5范围内的pH。
6.根据权利要求1-5中任一项所述的弹性体材料,其中,在步骤e)中,提取用选自由二氯甲烷、氯仿、二***、甲基叔丁基醚、辛醇、壬醇、癸醇、甲苯组成的组的溶剂进行,优选地用甲基叔丁基醚进行,随后蒸发。
7.根据权利要求1-6中任一项所述的弹性体材料,其中,在步骤e)中,将所述木栓质单体干燥。
8.根据权利要求1-7中任一项所述的弹性体材料,其中,在步骤f)中,温度在70-90℃的范围内。

10.根据权利要求1-9中任一项所述的弹性体材料,其特征在于,所述木栓质单体具有的碳链长度在10至30,优选16至24的范围内。
11.根据权利要求1-9中任一项所述的弹性体材料,其特征在于,它具有0.9-10MPa的拉伸强度。
12.根据权利要求1-9中任一项所述的弹性体材料,其特征在于,它的损耗因子在-20℃至20℃的温度范围内具有最大值。
13.根据权利要求1-9中任一项所述的弹性体材料,其特征在于,在使用差示扫描量热法的熔融实验中,它没有显示出熔融峰。
14.根据权利要求1-9中任一项所述的弹性体材料,其特征在于,它在高于250℃的温度下显示出DTG峰。
