Description

Stent and method of manufacturing stent
Technical Field
The present invention relates generally, but not exclusively, to a bracket for assembling a backrest to a seat base and a method of manufacturing the bracket.
Background
The design features of commonly used chairs in offices or homes are to provide comfort to the user. For example, the backrest may be inclined. A typical chair with tilt features includes a foot base, a seat base secured to a seat base fixture and mounted on the foot base, and a backrest mounted on the seat base. While chairs may be delivered to the end user after factory assembly is complete, the assembled chair volume is large and difficult to transport. Thus, portions of the chair are designed to be assembled by the end user.
In a typical chair assembly process, the end user first needs to attach the seat base to the foot base. The seat base may have a seat base fixture as part of the tilt assembly. The user then needs to attach the backrest to the seat base. Mounting the backrest to the seat base is cumbersome because the user typically needs to support and balance the backrest at an angle of about 45 degrees while trying to align the mounting holes of the backrest with the mounting holes of the seat base. Once the mounting holes are aligned, four screws are also required to secure the back and seat base together. Throughout the tightening process, the backrest needs to be held in place until the backrest and seat base are secured together.
Accordingly, it is desirable to provide a bracket for assembling a backrest to a seat base that addresses at least some of the problems described above.

According to a first aspect, the present invention provides a bracket for assembling a backrest to a seat base, comprising: a body extending in a longitudinal direction from a first end to a second end, the body forming a channel configured to slidingly receive the seat base fixture and prevent movement between the backrest and the seat base fixture in a lateral direction; at least one stop disposed adjacent the first end, the at least one stop configured to abut an end of the seat base fixture; and a ramp disposed adjacent the second end of the body.
The body may include a pair of rails shaped to form a channel.
The body, the at least one stop, and the pair of rails may form a unitary construction.
The bracket may further include a plurality of openings disposed between the first and second ends of the main body, the plurality of openings positioned to align with corresponding back mounting holes disposed on the back.
Selected ones of the plurality of openings may be configured to align with seat base mounting holes provided on the seat base fixture when the at least one stop abuts an end of the seat base fixture.
According to a second aspect, the present invention provides a method of manufacturing a stent comprising the steps of: forming a body extending in a longitudinal direction from a first end to a second end; forming a channel in the body such that the channel slidably receives the seat base fixture and prevents movement between the backrest and the seat base fixture in a lateral direction; providing at least one stop adjacent the first end such that the at least one stop is capable of abutting an end of the seat base fixture; and providing a ramp adjacent the second end of the body.
The step of forming the channel in the body may comprise forming a pair of rails.
The body, the at least one stop, and the pair of rails may be formed for machining a single piece of stock using a stamping process.
The method may further comprise the steps of: a plurality of openings are provided between the first and second ends of the body such that the plurality of openings are aligned with corresponding back mounting holes provided on the back.
The step of providing a plurality of openings may further comprise: positioning a selected opening of the plurality of openings such that when the at least one stop abuts an end of the seat base fixture, the selected opening of the plurality of openings is aligned with a seat base mounting hole provided on the seat base fixture.

Detailed Description
Embodiments will now be described, by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings. Like reference numbers and characters in the drawings refer to like parts or equivalents.
Embodiments of the present invention provide a tilt guide that may be a bracket capable of guiding and aligning a backrest to a seat base fixture. In use, the bracket is typically first mounted to the lower portion of the backrest, i.e. where the backrest is to be fitted to the seat base. The back rest is then slid along the seat base fixture using the bracket to assemble with the seat base. The bracket may hold the backrest in place once the backrest and seat base fixtures are aligned. This allows a user to easily insert and tighten the screws to secure the back and seat base together without having to physically hold the back in place during assembly.
Fig. 1A is an isometric view of a stent 100 according to an exemplary embodiment. Fig. 1B is a top view, fig. 1C is a front view, and fig. 1D is a side view. The bracket 100 is adapted for assembling a backrest to a seat base and includes a body 102 extending in a longitudinal direction from a first end 114 to a second end 104. The body 102 forms a channel 103 configured to slidingly receive the seat base fixture and prevent movement between the backrest and the seat base fixture in a lateral direction. The bracket 100 also includes at least one stop 112 disposed adjacent the first end 114. The at least one stop 112 is configured to abut an end 216 (fig. 2A) of the seat base fixture. More details will be discussed later with reference to fig. 2.
In one embodiment, the body 102 of the stand 100 may include a pair of rails 110a and 110b shaped to form a channel 103. The guide rails 110a and 110b may be L-shaped or C-shaped, for example. In some embodiments, the rails 110a and 110b may extend through a substantial majority of the length of the body 102 of the bracket 100. In other embodiments, the rails 110a and 110b have a shorter length that is disposed along the length of the body 102 of the stand 100.
In a preferred embodiment, the body 102 of the stand 100, the at least one stop 112, and the pair of rails 110a and 110b may be formed as a unitary construction. For example, the body 102, the at least one stop 112, and the pair of rails 110a and 110b of the bracket 100 may be machined from a single piece of stock using a stamping process.
The bracket 100 may also include a ramp 106 disposed adjacent the second end 104 of the body 102. As shown in fig. 1D, the plane in which the ramp 106 lies may be inclined at an angle of between 10 ° and 45 ° relative to the plane of the body 102. The ramp 106 may help guide the seat base fixture into the channel 103 so that the bracket 100 can easily slidably receive the seat base fixture during assembly. Specifically, the user does not need to accurately position the second end 104 of the body 102 of the bracket 100 with the end 216 (fig. 2A) of the seat base fixture before the backrest can slide along the seat base fixture. Even if there is a small lateral offset between the bracket 100 and the seat base fixture, the presence of the ramp 106 allows the seat base fixture to be guided along the angled surface of the ramp 106 and easily slide through the bracket 100. In this way, the time and effort required by the user to place the back and seat base fixtures together is greatly saved.
The holder 100 may further include a plurality of openings 108a, 108b, 108c, and 108d disposed between the first end 114 and the second end 104 of the body 102. The plurality of openings 108a, 108b, 108c and 108d are positioned to align with corresponding back mounting holes provided on the back. This arrangement allows the bracket 100 to be secured to the backrest through several openings 108a, 108b, 108c, 108d and exposes selected mounting holes in the backrest to facilitate the insertion and tightening of screws to secure the backrest and seat base together when the openings and mounting holes are aligned.
Figure 2A is a schematic view 200 of the bracket 100 of figure 1 positioned above a seat base fixture. Figure 2B is a schematic view 200 of the bracket 100 of figure 1 assembled to a seat base fixture. The seat base fixture is part of a tilt mechanism that allows the chair back to be tilted. In general, the seat base fixture may include a first component configured to be mounted to the seat base and an upwardly extending second component. In the assembled chair, the second part will extend into the side of the backrest. In some configurations, the second component is rotatable about the first component to enable the chair to tilt.
In some embodiments, one seat base fixture is attached to each side of the seat base. The backrest may have a bracket 100 attached to one side thereof and a mounting plate on the other side. The bracket 100 is used to initially position the back relative to the seat base before tightening the screws to secure the back and seat base to that side. Thereafter, the other side can be directly fixed using the mounting plate. As described above, the seat base fixture includes end 216. Further, the seat base fixture also includes a plurality of openings 218a and 218b (hereinafter interchangeably referred to as seat base mounting holes 218a and 218b) so that once the backrest and seat base are aligned, screws can be inserted to secure the two together.
During assembly of the chair, the seat base to which the seat base fixture is attached may be held in place while the backrest to which the bracket 100 is attached is slid along the seat base fixture until the at least one stop 112 on the bracket 100 abuts the end 216 of the seat base fixture. The seat base and backrest will then be in the aligned position as shown in figure 2B.
As described above, selected ones of the plurality of openings of the bracket 100 are positioned in alignment with the corresponding back mounting holes. Selected ones of the plurality of openings may be configured to align with seat base mounting holes 218a and 218B provided on the seat base fixture when at least one of the stops 112 abuts an end 216 of the seat base fixture (which end is not shown in fig. 2B as it is hidden under the stop 112).
As shown in fig. 2B, in the aligned position, at least one stop 112 on the bracket 100 limits further sliding of the backrest along the seat base fixture. Further, the channel of the bracket 100 limits the movement of the seat base fixture in the lateral direction. In this way, the backrest and seat base are effectively secured in an aligned position. In other words, the user may release his grip on the backrest at this time.
As can also be seen in fig. 2B, selected ones of the backrest mounting holes, the plurality of openings 108a, 108B, 108c, and 108d (fig. 1) in the bracket 100, and the seat base mounting holes 218a and 218B are aligned with one another in an aligned position. The user can insert and tighten the screws into the aligned holes to easily secure the back and seat base together. The assembly of the chair can then be efficiently completed by a single user without any assistance or cumbersome positioning during the time.
Fig. 3 is a flow chart 300 of a method of manufacturing a stent according to an exemplary embodiment. Step 302, a body is formed that extends in a longitudinal direction from a first end to a second end. A channel is formed 304 in the body such that the channel slidably receives the seat base fixture and prevents movement between the backrest and the seat base fixture in a lateral direction. At step 306, at least one stop is disposed adjacent the first end such that the at least one stop can abut an end of the seat base fixture.
By way of non-limiting example, the bracket may be fabricated from a single piece of stock material using a stamping process. The step 304 of forming a channel in the body may include forming a pair of rails. As mentioned above, the guide rail may be L-shaped or C-shaped, for example. These shapes can be formed by bending the blank accordingly. Similarly, the step 306 of providing at least one stop adjacent the first end of the bracket may include correspondingly bending the blank to form the stop.
In other words, the steps of forming the body, providing at least one stop, and forming a pair of rails may include forming them as a unitary construction.
The method of manufacturing a stent may further comprise the steps of: a ramp is disposed adjacent the second end of the body. Similar to forming the rails and stops, the ramp may be formed by bending one end of the blank to a desired angle.
The method of manufacturing a stent may further comprise the steps of: a plurality of openings are provided between the first and second ends of the body such that the plurality of openings are aligned with corresponding back mounting holes provided on the back. The plurality of openings may be formed by, for example, stamping or milling.
The step of providing a plurality of openings between the first end and the second end of the body may comprise: positioning a selected opening of the plurality of openings such that when the at least one stop abuts an end of the seat base fixture, the selected opening of the plurality of openings is aligned with a seat base mounting hole provided on the seat base fixture.
It will be appreciated by persons skilled in the art that numerous variations and/or modifications may be made to the invention as shown in the specific embodiments without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as broadly described. For example, the specific dimensions of the bracket may vary depending on the dimensions of the seat base fixture. In addition, the fabrication of the bracket may utilize other fabrication processes, such as casting. The present embodiments are, therefore, to be considered in all respects as illustrative and not restrictive.
