Abstract
本发明涉及显示技术领域,提供一种显示装置及其驱动方法。所述驱动方法包括:提供一显示装置,包括多个子像素,每个子像素包括OLED发光元件、向OLED发光元件传输驱动电流的发光晶体管和耦接于OLED发光元件的阳极的重置晶体管;向发光晶体管输入周期性的截止信号;确定子像素的每个帧周期的有效发光阶段;在子像素的每个帧周期的有效发光阶段,对应一个或多个截止信号,向重置晶体管输入重置信号。本发明在每个帧周期的有效发光阶段,对应截止信号产生的黑画面,重置OLED发光元件,使黑画面过后OLED发光元件发光时产生短暂亮度延迟,以补充OLED发光元件的固有亮度延迟引起的闪烁频率,使因亮度延迟导致的整体闪烁频率的可观察性降低,从而消除视觉闪烁。
Description
技术领域
本发明涉及显示技术领域,具体地说,涉及一种显示装置及其驱动方法。
背景技术
OLED(Organic Light-Emitting Diode,有机发光二极管)显示装置在低帧率的显示工况下容易发生闪烁问题。闪烁问题由漏电流或迟滞电压引起,改善漏电流现有技术已有较多研究,本文主要围绕迟滞电压说明。
OLED发光元件的驱动电流IOLED由下述公式(1)产生:

其中K是触点值,VDATA是数据电压,ELVDD是电源电压。OLED发光元件的亮度误差△IOLED由下述公式(2)产生:
其中△Vth是迟滞电压。根据公式(1)和公式(2)可知,在低灰阶下由于(VDATA-ELVDD)的值变小,在相同迟滞电压△Vth的取值情况下,亮度误差会增大。因此,闪烁问题在低帧率和低灰阶的显示工况下变得尤为严重。
迟滞电压引起闪烁的原理具体是,在每个帧周期的初始阶段,由于迟滞电压的存在,导致OLED发光元件发生发光延迟现象,引起显示亮度在每个帧周期的初始阶段有一段亮度延迟。在低帧率/低灰阶的显示工况下,该段亮度延迟被人眼察觉到,产生视觉闪烁。
尤其是在使用VRR(Variable Refresh Rate,可变刷新率)技术的显示装置中,由于人眼对闪烁的敏感度随闪烁频率的减小而加重,VRR技术最低可将帧频降低至25Hz,导致极为严重的视觉闪烁。
需要说明的是,在上述背景技术部分公开的信息仅用于加强对本发明的背景的理解,因此可以包括不构成对本领域普通技术人员已知的现有技术的信息。
发明内容
有鉴于此,本发明提供一种显示装置及其驱动方法,用以解决视觉闪烁问题。
本发明的一个方面提供一种显示装置的驱动方法,包括步骤:提供一显示装置,所述显示装置包括多个子像素,每个所述子像素包括OLED发光元件、向所述OLED发光元件传输驱动电流的发光晶体管和耦接于所述OLED发光元件的阳极的重置晶体管;向所述发光晶体管输入周期性的截止信号;确定所述子像素的每个帧周期的有效发光阶段;以及,在所述子像素的每个所述帧周期的有效发光阶段,对应一个或多个所述截止信号,向所述重置晶体管输入重置信号。
在一些实施例中,确定所述子像素的每个帧周期的有效发光阶段的步骤包括:向所述重置晶体管输入周期为所述帧周期的初始重置信号;获得所述子像素响应所述初始重置信号的延迟发光时间;以及,将每个所述帧周期中,所述延迟发光时间之后的阶段作为所述有效发光阶段。
在一些实施例中,向所述重置晶体管输入重置信号的步骤中,根据所述帧周期和所述延迟发光时间确定所述重置信号的输入频次,使每个所述帧周期内,由所述延迟发光时间和所述重置信号产生的亮度延迟的频率不可见。
在一些实施例中,所述重置信号是周期性的或非周期性的脉冲信号。
在一些实施例中,所述OLED发光元件的阳极和阴极存在寄生电容,响应于所述初始重置信号,所述驱动电流流经所述OLED发光元件前,先对所述OLED发光元件的寄生电容进行充电,使所述OLED发光元件产生所述延迟发光时间。
在一些实施例中,每个所述子像素还包括用于产生所述驱动电流的驱动晶体管,所述驱动晶体管通过所述发光晶体管连向所述OLED发光元件。
本发明的另一个方面提供一种显示装置,包括排列成行列矩阵的多个子像素,每个所述子像素包括:OLED发光元件;发光晶体管,向所述OLED发光元件传输驱动电流;重置晶体管,耦接于所述OLED发光元件的阳极;其中,所述发光晶体管接收周期性的截止信号,所述OLED发光元件在每个帧周期具有有效发光阶段,所述重置晶体管在每个所述帧周期的有效发光阶段,接收对应一个或多个所述截止信号的重置信号。
在一些实施例中,所述重置晶体管还接收周期为所述帧周期的初始重置信号,所述OLED发光元件响应所述初始重置信号产生延迟发光时间,所述有效发光阶段为每个所述帧周期中所述延迟发光时间之后的阶段。
在一些实施例中,所述重置信号的输入频次与所述帧周期和所述延迟发光时间相关,以使每个所述帧周期内,由所述延迟发光时间和所述重置信号产生的亮度延迟的频率不可见。
在一些实施例中,每个所述子像素还包括:驱动晶体管,用于产生所述驱动电流,所述驱动晶体管通过所述发光晶体管连向所述OLED发光元件。
本发明与现有技术相比的有益效果至少包括:
在每个帧周期的有效发光阶段,对应截止信号产生的黑画面,利用重置晶体管重置OLED发光元件,使黑画面过后OLED发光元件发光时产生短暂亮度延迟,该些短暂亮度延迟用于补充OLED发光元件在每个帧周期的初始阶段的固有亮度延迟引起的闪烁频率,使整体因亮度延迟导致的闪烁频率的可观察性降低,从而消除视觉闪烁。

图1示出实施例中显示装置的子像素的电路结构,图2示出实施例中显示装置的驱动方法的主要步骤,图3示出实施例中显示装置的驱动方法的实施场景。参照图2所示,本实施例中显示装置的驱动方法主要包括:在步骤S210中,提供一显示装置,该显示装置包括多个子像素,每个子像素的电路结构参照图1所示,包括OLED发光元件11、向OLED发光元件11传输驱动电流IOLED的发光晶体管12和耦接于OLED发光元件11的阳极的重置晶体管13;在步骤S220中,向发光晶体管输入周期性的截止信号;在步骤S230中,确定子像素的每个帧周期的有效发光阶段;以及在步骤S240中,在子像素的每个帧周期的有效发光阶段,对应一个或多个截止信号,向重置晶体管输入重置信号。
参照图3所示,信号EM是输入发光晶体管12的栅极的周期性的截止信号。本实施例中信号EM是周期性的高电平信号,用于在每个帧周期内按照一定频率产生黑画面。具体来说,结合图1和图3所示,当发光晶体管12的栅极接收到高电平信号,发光晶体管12截止,驱动电流IOLED无法经由发光晶体管12传输向OLED发光元件11,导致OLED发光元件11对应发光晶体管12的高电平阶段的亮度减为零,产生黑画面。本实施例中信号EM在一个帧周期(Frame)内包括32个高电平信号,信号EM可以以周期性脉冲信号的方式提供给发光晶体管12的栅极。本实施例中一个帧周期(Frame)例如为30Hz。
本实施例在每个帧周期的有效发光阶段,对应截止信号产生的黑画面,利用重置晶体管重置OLED发光元件,使黑画面过后OLED发光元件发光时产生短暂亮度延迟,该些短暂亮度延迟用于补充OLED发光元件在每个帧周期的初始阶段的固有亮度延迟,使整体因亮度延迟导致的闪烁频率的可观察性降低,从而消除视觉闪烁。
在一个实施例中,确定子像素的每个帧周期的有效发光阶段的步骤包括:向重置晶体管输入周期为帧周期的初始重置信号;获得子像素响应初始重置信号的延迟发光时间;以及,将每个帧周期中,延迟发光时间之后的阶段作为有效发光阶段。
结合图1和图3所示,信号Sn是重置晶体管13的栅极接收到的电平信号,信号Sn包括周期为帧周期的初始重置信号301。OLED发光元件11的阳极和阴极之间存在寄生电容COLED,响应于初始重置信号301,驱动电流IOLED流经OLED发光元件11前,先对OLED发光元件11的寄生电容COLED进行充电,导致OLED发光元件11产生延迟发光时间tDELAY。
具体参照图4所示的原理,在一个帧周期的初始阶段,当向重置晶体管13的栅极输入初始重置信号301,此时EM信号为高电平,OLED发光元件11不工作,重置晶体管13对OLED发光元件11的寄生电容COLED进行放电操作,以防止对比度下降。当初始重置信号301置为高电平,EM信号置为低电平,重置过程结束,OLED发光元件11进入发光阶段。但是,由于寄生电容COLED的存在,在发光阶段本应流经OLED发光元件11,也即从OLED发光元件11的阳极流向其阴极、使OLED发光元件11发光的驱动电流IOLED,先对寄生电容COLED进行充电,而后才流经OLED发光元件11,使OLED发光元件11进入有效发光阶段。从而,在帧周期的初始阶段,由于寄生电容COLED的充电过程,OLED发光元件11的发光存在一定的时间延迟,在图4中表现为OLED发光元件11的阳极电压VANODE在帧周期的初始阶段缓慢上升至预定值,OLED发光元件11的亮度Luminance在帧周期的初始阶段存在延迟发光时间tDELAY。
延迟发光时间tDELAY具体根据下述公式(3)确定:
其中VF是OLED发光元件11的正向电压降,也即OLED发光元件11的阳极和阴极之间的,确保OLED发光元件11正常发光的电压值。
延迟发光时间tDELAY具有灰度依赖性,在高灰阶的显示工况下(驱动电流IOLED高)延迟发光时间tDELAY是个极小的值,可以忽略不计。
在图3中,延迟发光时间tDELAY带来的影响表现为在一个帧周期(Frame)的初始阶段,子像素的发光亮度存在亮度延迟303。在低灰阶和低帧频的显示工况下,该由于子像素的迟滞电压引起的固有的亮度延迟303会引起视觉闪烁。因此,本实施例在每个帧周期中,在固有的亮度延迟303之后继续***一些短暂的亮度延迟304,以增加每个帧周期中亮度延迟的发生频率,从而降低人眼对亮度延迟导致的闪烁的敏感度,达到消除视觉闪烁的效果。
***短暂的亮度延迟的方式,如上述步骤S240所述,在子像素的每个帧周期的有效发光阶段,向重置晶体管输入对应一个或多个截止信号的重置信号。例如,图3中示意出,在子像素的一个帧周期(Frame)的有效发光阶段300,通过信号Sn向重置晶体管输入了五个重置信号302,该五个重置信号302分别对应相间隔的五个截止信号。重置信号302可以是周期性的或非周期性的脉冲信号,其具体的输入频次根据帧周期和延迟发光时间确定,使每个帧周期内,由延迟发光时间和重置信号产生的亮度延迟的频率不可见。重置信号302与初始重置信号301同理,都是能实现OLED发光元件11的重置操作的信号。
结合图1、图3和图4所示,当重置晶体管13的栅极接收到重置信号302,重置晶体管13同样会对OLED发光元件11的寄生电容COLED进行放电操作;当重置信号302结束、信号Sn置高、信号EM置低,则驱动电流IOLED先对寄生电容COLED进行充电,再流经OLED发光元件11供发光。因此,OLED发光元件11在每个重置信号302之后,其发光亮度会存在一个短暂的亮度延迟304,该些短暂的亮度延迟304增加了每个帧周期内亮度延迟的总发生频率,从而降低固有的亮度延迟303引起的视觉闪烁敏感度,使每个帧周期内的整体闪烁变化从视觉角度变得不可见。
在高灰阶的显示工况下,子像素的固有的亮度延迟几乎没有,即每个帧周期的初始阶段的延迟发光时间很小,因此根据帧周期和延迟发光时间确定的重置信号的输入频次很少,从而上述的驱动方法不会对高灰阶的显示工况造成影响。同理,在高帧频的显示工况下,根据帧周期和延迟发光时间确定的重置信号的输入频次很少,从而上述的驱动方法也不会对高帧频的显示工况造成影响。
在上述的驱动方法中,一些常规的方法原理以及电路结构并未展开说明,这不应视为对本发明的限制。例如,参照图1所示,每个子像素电路都连接电源电压ELVDD和ELVSS,每个子像素电路还包括用于产生驱动电流IOLED的驱动晶体管14,驱动晶体管14通过发光晶体管12连向OLED发光元件11。
图5示出采用传统的驱动方法,显示装置的亮度变化曲线和闪烁可见度曲线,图6示出采用本发明的驱动方法后,显示装置的亮度变化曲线和闪烁可见度曲线。参照图5所示,显示装置的帧频为30Hz,灰阶例如为46。显示装置在一个帧周期的初始阶段,存在固有的亮度延迟,在亮度变化曲线5a中表现为亮度骤降501,而在该帧周期的后续阶段,其亮度变化曲线5a的走势比较平稳。在低帧频和低灰阶的显示工况下,每个帧周期的初始阶段的亮度骤降501会引起强烈的视觉感受,表现为闪烁可见度曲线5b中的尖锐上升502,导致观感不佳的视觉闪烁。
参照图6所示,同样在帧频为30Hz,灰阶为46的显示工况下,当采用上述实施例的驱动方法,在每个帧周期的有效发光阶段通过附加的重置信号***一些短暂的亮度延迟,在亮度变化曲线6a中表现为亮度骤降601,使每个帧周期中,亮度骤降(包括一个亮度骤降501和多个亮度骤降601)的发生频率增加,从而降低视觉感受,在闪烁可见度曲线6b中对应30Hz帧频的闪烁可见度大大降低,达到消除低帧频和低灰阶的显示工况下的视觉闪烁的效果。从而,在显示装置配置VRR技术和G-SYNC技术的情况下,例如一些游戏应用中,视觉闪烁的情况得到极大改善。在60Hz以及更高的显示帧频下,闪烁可见度也不会被人眼观察到。
综上,通过上述的驱动方法,在子像素的每个帧周期的有效发光阶段,对应截止信号产生的黑画面,利用重置晶体管重置OLED发光元件,使黑画面过后OLED发光元件发光时产生短暂亮度延迟,该些短暂亮度延迟用于补充OLED发光元件在每个帧周期的初始阶段的固有亮度延迟引起的闪烁频率,使整体因亮度延迟导致的闪烁频率的可观察性降低,从而达到消除视觉闪烁的效果。
本发明实施例还提供一种显示装置,该显示包括排列成行列矩阵的多个子像素,参照图1所示,每个子像素包括:OLED发光元件11;发光晶体管12,用于向OLED发光元件11传输驱动电流IOLED;重置晶体管13,耦接于OLED发光元件11的阳极;其中,发光晶体管12的栅极接收周期性的截止信号,产生连续的黑画面;OLED发光元件11在每个帧周期具有有效发光阶段,重置晶体管13在每个帧周期的有效发光阶段,接收对应一个或多个截止信号的重置信号,以使黑画面过后OLED发光元件11发光时产生短暂亮度延迟,该些短暂亮度延迟用于补充OLED发光元件11在每个帧周期的初始阶段的固有亮度延迟引起的闪烁频率,使整体因亮度延迟导致的闪烁频率的可观察性降低,从而达到消除视觉闪烁的效果。
每个子像素还包括驱动晶体管14,驱动晶体管14用于产生驱动电流IOLED,驱动晶体管14通过发光晶体管12连向OLED发光元件11。
进一步地,重置晶体管还接收周期为帧周期的初始重置信号,OLED发光元件响应初始重置信号产生延迟发光时间,有效发光阶段为每个帧周期中延迟发光时间之后的阶段。重置信号的输入频次具体与帧周期和延迟发光时间相关,以使每个帧周期内,由延迟发光时间和重置信号产生的亮度延迟的频率不可见。
本实施例的显示装置采用上述实施例的驱动方法进行驱动,以达到消除视觉闪烁的效果。具体的原理可参照上述实施例的说明,此处不再重复。
综上,本发明的显示装置及其驱动方法,在子像素的每个帧周期的有效发光阶段,对应截止信号产生的黑画面,利用重置晶体管重置OLED发光元件,使黑画面过后OLED发光元件发光时产生短暂亮度延迟,该些短暂亮度延迟用于补充OLED发光元件在每个帧周期的初始阶段的固有亮度延迟引起的闪烁频率,使整体因亮度延迟导致的闪烁频率的可观察性降低,从而达到消除视觉闪烁的效果。

Claims (6)
1.一种显示装置的驱动方法,其特征在于,包括步骤:
提供一显示装置,所述显示装置包括多个子像素,每个所述子像素包括OLED发光元件、向所述OLED发光元件传输驱动电流的发光晶体管和耦接于所述OLED发光元件的阳极的重置晶体管;
向所述发光晶体管输入周期性的截止信号;
确定所述子像素的每个帧周期的有效发光阶段,包括:向所述重置晶体管输入周期为所述帧周期的初始重置信号,获得所述子像素响应所述初始重置信号的延迟发光时间,以及将每个所述帧周期中,所述延迟发光时间之后的阶段作为所述有效发光阶段;以及
在所述子像素的每个所述帧周期的有效发光阶段,对应一个或多个所述截止信号,向所述重置晶体管输入重置信号;
其中,向所述重置晶体管输入重置信号的步骤中,根据所述帧周期和所述延迟发光时间确定所述重置信号的输入频次,使每个所述帧周期内,由所述延迟发光时间和所述重置信号产生的亮度延迟的频率不可见。
2.如权利要求1所述的驱动方法,其特征在于,所述重置信号是周期性的或非周期性的脉冲信号。
3.如权利要求1所述的驱动方法,其特征在于,所述OLED发光元件的阳极和阴极之间存在寄生电容,响应于所述初始重置信号,所述驱动电流流经所述OLED发光元件前,先对所述OLED发光元件的寄生电容进行充电,使所述OLED发光元件产生所述延迟发光时间。
4.如权利要求1所述的驱动方法,其特征在于,每个所述子像素还包括用于产生所述驱动电流的驱动晶体管,所述驱动晶体管通过所述发光晶体管连向所述OLED发光元件。
5.一种显示装置,包括排列成行列矩阵的多个子像素,其特征在于,每个所述子像素包括:
OLED发光元件;
发光晶体管,向所述OLED发光元件传输驱动电流;
重置晶体管,耦接于所述OLED发光元件的阳极;
其中,所述发光晶体管接收周期性的截止信号,所述OLED发光元件在每个帧周期具有有效发光阶段,所述重置晶体管在每个所述帧周期的有效发光阶段,接收对应一个或多个所述截止信号的重置信号;
所述重置晶体管还接收周期为所述帧周期的初始重置信号,所述OLED发光元件响应所述初始重置信号产生延迟发光时间,所述有效发光阶段为每个所述帧周期中所述延迟发光时间之后的阶段;以及
所述重置信号的输入频次与所述帧周期和所述延迟发光时间相关,以使每个所述帧周期内,由所述延迟发光时间和所述重置信号产生的亮度延迟的频率不可见。
6.如权利要求5所述的显示装置,其特征在于,每个所述子像素还包括:
驱动晶体管,用于产生所述驱动电流,所述驱动晶体管通过所述发光晶体管连向所述OLED发光元件。
