背景技术
显示器装置可包含光学控制组件,通过所述光学控制组件,来自背光件的光透射可受电气式控制。举例来说,此光学控制组件可包含液晶胞,所述液晶胞包含在正交偏光器之间的均匀厚度的液晶材料、与例如用以控制各像素区域中的液晶材料的分子对准并进而控制其光学特性的电路。
显示器装置在组态上典型为平坦,不过本申请的发明人已着手在提升非平坦式显示器的性能。
发明内容
因此,本申请提出一种显示器装置,包含:控制组件,用以电气控制自背光件透射穿过所述控制组件的光的强度;及位于所述背光件与所述控制组件之间的光学组件,其组配来将跨越所述光学组件的输入侧的区域、实质均匀地显现至少一方向性特性的输入光,转换成跨越在所述光学组件的输出侧的对应区域、显现所述至少一方向性特性上的实质变化的输出光。
根据实施例,所述至少一方向性特性包含相对于当地法线的角度亮度分布。
根据实施例,所述至少一方向性特性包含相对于所述当地法线的所述角度亮度分布的中心角度、或相对于所述当地法线的最大亮度角度。
根据实施例,此装置进一步组配来将跨越所述输入侧的所述区域、实质均匀地显现相对低方向性的输入光,转换成跨越输出侧的所述对应区域、实质均匀地显现相对高方向性的输出光。
根据实施例,所述装置进一步组配来将在所述输入侧显现所述角度亮度分布的相对大的半峰全宽(full width at half maximum,FWHM)的输入光,转换成在所述输出侧显现所述角度亮度分布的相对小的半峰全宽(FWHM)的输出光。
根据实施例,至少所述背光件及所述控制组件在第一区域中为弯曲,且其中所述光学组件组配来将跨越对应于所述第一区域的输入侧区域、显现相对于当地法线的实质均匀亮度分布的输入光,转换成跨越对应于所述第一区域的对应输出侧区域、显现相对于共同参考方向的实质均匀亮度分布的输出光。
根据实施例,所述光学组件包含界定于光导件的输出表面中的微结构,其中所述微结构的光学作用跨越所述输出表面的区域有所变化。

具体实施方式
在实施例中,此技术用于有机液晶显示器(OLCD)装置,其包含有机薄膜晶体管(OTFT)阵列,但是所述技术亦可应用在其他类型的液晶显示器装置、及使用背光件的其他类型显示器装置。
以下所述的实施例用于包含侧光型背光件的显示器装置,其中一个或多个光源位于显示区域外侧,不过本发明亦可应用在例如包含背光源在显示区域内的显示器装置。
并且,以下所述的实施例是用于具有相对简单的弯曲组态的显示器装置,但是本发明亦可应用在例如具有更为复杂的弯曲组态的显示器装置。
光导板用于侧光型显示器装置中,以自显示区域外侧的一或多个背光源将光导引及分散到遍于整个显示区域的光学控制构件(诸如液晶胞)的后表面。此光导板可例如包含塑料材料(诸如,例如PMMA)的可挠片材,其具有实质均匀的厚度,且有界定于邻近光学控制构件(诸如LC胞)的表面中的微结构。
通过光导板,以大体上平行于光导板的平面的方向,导引来自显示区域外侧的一或多个光源的光,而将界定于邻近光学控制构件的表面中的微结构组配成使沿着光导板传播的光有一部分自光导板被导引出,朝向所述光学控制构件(例如LC胞)。
在传统显示器中,微结构的设计于跨越光导板的整个区域通常是均匀的,光学输出的方向性特性于跨越光导板的整个区域通常是均匀的。
光学输出的方向性特性可以亮度分布曲线的形式来表示,此亮度分布曲线显示相对于当地法线(local normal)在不同角度的相对亮度。光导板的任何区域的当地法线为在所述区域垂直于所述光导板的平面的方向。就平坦组态的光导板而言,当地法线在跨越光导板的整个区域中为相同方向。就其他组态(例如弯曲组态)的光导板而言,相对于固定参考方向,当地法线的方向在跨越光导板的区域中变化。
对于传统显示器而言,在跨越整个显示区域的所有区域,光导板显现实质上相同的亮度分布曲线。在跨越整个显示区域的所有区域,亮度最高(相对于当地法线)的角度(或于实质对称亮度分布曲线的情况下的中心角度)实质相同。
于本发明的此实施例中,界定在光导板的表面中的微结构是意图设计来在显示区域的不同区域中产生实质上不同的亮度分布曲线。
图1及图2显示本发明的一实施例中最大亮度(相对于对应的当地法线)的方向如何不同。于图1及图2中,光导板2内的箭头4表示对应的当地法线的方向,而光导板2外侧的箭头6表示来自针对光导板2的对应的区域的亮度分布曲线的最大亮度的方向。
如图1中所示,最大亮度(相对于对应的当地法线)的方向跨越光导板2的表面变化。在图1的范例中,最大亮度的角度(相对于对应的当地法线)在位置B约为0度,而最大亮度的角度(相对于对应的当地法线)在以一方向跨越显示区域移动离开位置B愈远则逐渐为愈正,且在以相反方向跨越显示区域移动离开位置B愈远则逐渐为愈负。针对位置A、B及C的亮度分布曲线的范例分别显示在图3a、3b及3c中。如图3a、3b及3c中所示,最大亮度的角度(亮度分布的中心角度)就位置A、B及C相对于对应的当地法线(于x轴上角度为0)各为不同。
跨越光导板2的表面的最大亮度的角度变化是这样的:当光导板如图2中所示可挠成弯曲组态时,在跨越光导板2的整个区域(或至少跨越包含光导板2及光学控制组件8(例如LC胞)的产品显示器装置中的整个显示区域)中,最大亮度的方向(相对于固定参考方向,诸如位置B的当地法线)实质上为相同。
图4显示光导板2以弯曲组态与LC胞8(作为光学控制组件的范例)相组合,及光源10被组配为将光经由光导板2的侧边缘耦合到光导板2中。此LC胞8包含:(a)在两个正交偏光器之间的均匀厚度的LC材料、及(b)用以独立电气控制LC胞在显示器装置的各像素区域的透射的有源矩阵电路(active matrix circuitry)。此有源矩阵电路可例如包含有机晶体管装置阵列(诸如有机薄膜晶体管(OTFT)装置阵列)。OTFT包含用于半导体通道的有机半导体(诸如,例如有机聚合物或小分子半导体)。
于上述的实施例中,界定于光导板2的表面中的微结构被设计为在跨越显示区域上实现最大亮度角度(相对于对应的当地法线)的期望变化。在另一实施例中,最大亮度角度(相对于对应的当地法线)跨越显示区域的期望变化是借由设置在光导板2与LC胞8之间的附加组件来实现。此附加组件可采取具有在多个表面中界定的微结构的可挠塑料膜的形式,而所述微结构被设计为产生在跨越显示区域上显现最大亮度角度(相对于对应的当地法线)的期望变化的光学输出。除了跨越显示区域的最大亮度角度的变化以外,所述附加组件亦可作用来实质上均匀地增强跨越显示区域的输出的方向性。例如,就显示区域的任何区域而言,相较于附加组件的光学输入(例如光导板的光学输出)的亮度分布曲线,附加组件的光学输出的亮度分布曲线可显现较窄(较小)的半峰(HM)全宽(FW)亮度值。此FWHM界定了亮度不小于最大亮度的一半的角度范围的大小。此方向性增强效应在图5中示出,其中曲线I为针对附加组件的光学输入,而曲线II为针对附加组件的光学输出。
如上所述,本发明的实施例在上文是针对在显示区域外侧具有背光光源的显示器装置的范例来描述。然而,在一变化中,背光光源设置在显示区域内,而光学组件被***在背光光源与控制组件(例如LC胞)之间,以实现跨越显示区域的最大亮度角度(相较于对应的当地法线)的期望变化。

Claims (7)

1.一种显示器装置,其包含:
控制组件,用以电气控制自背光件透射穿过所述控制组件的光的强度;以及
光学组件,位于所述背光件与所述控制组件之间,组配来将跨越所述光学组件的输入侧的区域、实质均匀地显现至少一方向性特性的输入光,转换成跨越所述光学组件的输出侧的对应区域、显现所述至少一方向性特性上的实质变化的输出光。
2.根据权利要求1所述的显示器装置,其中所述至少一方向性特性包含相对于当地法线的角度亮度分布。
3.根据权利要求1所述的显示器装置,其中所述至少一方向性特性包含相对于所述当地法线的角度亮度分布的中心角度、或相对于所述当地法线的最大亮度角度。
4.根据前述权利要求中任一权利要求所述的显示器装置,其更组配来将跨越所述输入侧的所述区域、实质均匀地显现相对低方向性的输入光,转换成跨越输出侧的所述对应区域、实质均匀地显现相对高方向性的输出光。
5.根据权利要求4所述的显示器装置,其进一步组配来将在所述输入侧显现所述角度亮度分布的相对大的半峰全宽(full width at half maximum,FWHM)的输入光,转换成在所述输出侧显现所述角度亮度分布的相对小的半峰全宽(FWHM)的输出光。
6.根据权利要求1所述的显示器装置,其中至少所述背光件及所述控制组件在第一区域中为弯曲,且其中所述光学组件组配来将跨越对应于所述第一区域的输入侧区域、显现相对于当地法线的实质均匀亮度分布的输入光,转换成跨越对应于所述第一区域的对应输出侧区域、显现相对于共同参考方向的实质均匀亮度分布的输出光。
7.根据权利要求1所述的显示器装置,其中所述光学组件包含界定于光导件的输出表面中的微结构,其中所述微结构的光学作用跨越所述输出表面的区域有所变化。
