The method according to the invention makes it possible to direct the outer sensitive section to the outside only a short time after the inversion, so that only few further machining or processing steps are carried out with this outer section. Fig. 1 shows a schematic view of a machine 10 according to the invention for producing rod-shaped products of the tobacco processing industry. In a first filter process (Filterlauf) 61, a quadruple length of product 40 (see fig. 2) from a warehouse (Magazin) or stock (Vorrat) 11 is taken out by means of the take-out drum 12. The quadruple length product 40 has five different segments, three of which are, for example, double in this case. These segments, i.e. double and single long segments 50, 52, may be: tobacco rods (Tabakstock), hollow segments, blank segments, tube segments, tobacco film segments, filters or filter elements with activated carbon particles, such as filter acetate elements (filterings), which may also contain, for example, capsules (Kapsel) containing aromatic substances (Aromastoff). There are many variations possible here. It is particularly feasible that the segments 50 have tobacco rods. On the take-off drum 12, a quadruple-length product 40, which is arranged in a flute (Mulden) and is conveyed in the transverse axial direction, is cut centrally and transferred (ubergeben) onto a classifying drum (staffeltromel) 14. In this way double-length products 41, 41' are produced. The cut double-length products 41, 41' are graded on the grading drum 14. The double-length products 41, 41' to be sorted are transferred onto the moving drum 15 and are moved there longitudinally, so that they are arranged in alignment transversely to the axial direction one after the other (hunter). The double products 41, 41 'arranged in a longitudinal alignment one behind the other are discharged (abgeben) onto the transport drum 16 and from there onto the cutting drum 17, on which the double products 41, 41' are cut centrally by the circular knife 13. This produces partial products 42 and 42' which are arranged longitudinally axially to one another, for example in the flutes of the cutting drum 17. The partial products 42, 42' are transferred from the cutting cylinder 17 onto the transport cylinder 18.
The partial products 42, 42' are transferred from the conveying drum 18 onto a collecting drum (zusmammenstelltrommel) 19, wherein, from the second product run 62, the intermediate section 43 is externally (au β en) docked (anlegen) to the first partial product 42. A second product run (Produktlauf) 62 takes corresponding, not shown, eight-fold-length segments, for example filter segments, from the store or stock 21 by means of the take-off roller 22. There, the double-long segments are cut centrally by the circular knife 13 in order to be transferred onto the classifying drum 24 and classified there. Next, the intermediate segment 43 is transferred onto the moving drum 25 and there moves in the groove of the moving drum 25 in a transverse axial alignment. The collection portion thus turned over is transferred to the transport drum 29 and then to the transport drum 33, where it is first pushed together (zusammengeschoben) in order then to fix the slip-in paper (Belagpapier) 44 to the collection portion formed by the partial products 42, 42' and the intermediate section 43. Method according to claim 1, characterized in that the collection of the first partial product (42), the intermediate section (43) and the second partial product (42 ') is displaced in the longitudinal direction after the first partial product (42) and the intermediate section (43) have been jointly inverted, so that the intermediate section (43) is located in a central processing line which is transverse to the conveyed rod-shaped product and the partial products (42, 42').
9. Method according to claim 8, characterized in that the intermediate section (43) is centrally located on the central processing line.

Use of an overturning drum (20) in a machine (10) of the tobacco processing industry for manufacturing rod-shaped products (45, 45') comprising a plurality of segments (50, 52, 43), characterized in that the overturning drum (20) is arranged at the end of a second product run (62) or directly after the second product run (62), wherein a first product run (61) is provided which is arranged upstream with respect to the second product run (62), wherein the first product run (61) is designed for processing and transporting rod-shaped products of the tobacco processing industry having a plurality of segments (50, 52) laterally, wherein an intermediate segment (43) is generated or provided in the second product run (62) which is provided for external arrangement onto the rod-shaped products provided by the first product run (61), whereby the intermediate section (43) is arranged or situated between two rod-shaped products provided by the first product run (61) after being turned 180 ° around the transverse axis in the turning drum (20).
11. A machine (10) for producing rod-shaped products (45, 45 ') of the tobacco processing industry, wherein the machine (10) has a first product run (61) in which a first rod-shaped product (41, 41 ') of the tobacco processing industry, which is composed of a plurality of segments (50, 52), is conveyed or can be conveyed transversely to the axis and is cut or can be cut into a first and a second partial product (42, 42 '), and wherein the machine (10) has a second product run (62) in which a further rod-shaped product of the tobacco processing industry is conveyed or can be conveyed transversely to the axis, wherein the further rod-shaped product can be docked externally to the first partial product (42) in the second product run (62) in order to produce a further rod-shaped product in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the product, -a sequence of first partial products (42) and second partial products (42 '), wherein the second product run (62) is arranged after the first product run (61) in the conveying direction of the first rod-shaped products (41, 41 '), characterized in that at the end of the second product run (62) or directly following the second product run (62) there is provided an overturning drum (20) which is configured for receiving the further rod-shaped products and the first partial products (42) and is overturned by 180 ° about a transverse axis and such that they are placed longitudinally axially in alignment with the second partial products (42 ') after being overturned.

Machine (10) according to claim 11, characterized in that a cutting device (13) is provided for cutting in the first product run (61), by means of which the first rod-shaped products (41, 41 ') are or can be cut into first and second partial products (42, 42') transversely to the axial direction.
13. Machine (10) according to claim 12, characterized in that downstream of said cutting means (13) there are provided or are grading means (14) and/or moving means (15).
14. Machine (10) according to claim 13, characterized in that said classifying means (14) is a classifying drum or said moving means (15) is a moving drum.
15. The machine (10) of claim 12, wherein the first product run (61) and the second product run (62) have a plurality of rollers.
16. Machine (10) according to claim 15, characterized in that said cylinders are transport cylinders (16, 26) and/or treatment cylinders.
17. Machine (10) according to claim 12, characterized in that in addition to the turning cylinders (18, 20) a spreader cylinder (27) is provided, wherein the spreader cylinder (27) is arranged upstream of the turning cylinder (20), wherein the turning cylinder (20) directly adjoins the spreader cylinder (27) or only a further cylinder (19) is arranged between the turning cylinder (20) and the spreader cylinder (27).
18. The machine (10) of claim 12, wherein said turning drum (20) is configured to turn both said first portion of products (42) over said another rod-shaped product and said second portion of products (42').

Machine (10) according to one of claims 12 to 18, characterized in that the first product run (61) and the second product run (62) are configured as modules, wherein the conveying means and the handling means of the first product run (61) and the second product run (62) are arranged in or on a common frame, rack and/or cabinet, respectively, and have a transfer unit which is connected to one another when connecting the two product runs.
