技术领域
本发明是关于一种显示技术,且特别是有关于一种显示装置之驱动方法。
背景技术
当显示器运作在跳帧(Frame skip)的模式时,通常驱动电路所接收的发光启动信号与发光时钟脉冲信号仍然会在每一个帧期间内切换,因此导致整体功率消耗难以有效地降低。
发明内容
本发明提供一种显示装置之驱动方法。显示装置包含第一驱动电路与像素阵列。驱动方法包含以下步骤。于第一模式中,藉由第一驱动电路,接收第一发光启动信号以驱动像素阵列。第一发光启动信号包含复数个第一脉冲,该些第一脉冲每一者之持续时间分别与第一帧以及至少一第二帧每一者至少部分期间重叠。于第二模式中,藉由第一驱动电路,接收第二发光启动信号以驱动像素阵列。第二发光启动信号包含第二脉冲,第二脉冲之持续时间与第一帧至少部分期间重叠,并且第二发光启动信号于至少一第二帧期间内维持在第一电平。
综上所述,本发明的显示装置可运作于第一模式(即一般显示模式)与第二模式(跳帧模式)。当运作于第二模式时,显示装置可通过将第一模式中第一帧与至少一第二帧期间内的第一发光启动信号的数个第一脉冲整合为第二模式中对应于第一帧的第二发光启动信号的第二脉冲,以有效地维持亮度表现并减少功率消耗。

请参考图1,图1为本发明一实施例之显示装置100之示意图。显示装置100包含驱动电路110、130、140与像素阵列120。于一实施例中,驱动电路110、130可以是栅极驱动阵列(Gate on array,GOA)电路,驱动电路140可以是源极驱动电路。如图1所示,驱动电路110设置于像素阵列120的一侧,驱动电路130则相对驱动电路110设置于像素阵列120的另一侧,但本发明不以此为限。于另一实施例中,驱动电路110、130可设置于像素阵列120的同一侧。驱动电路110用以接收发光启动信号EMST与发光时钟脉冲信号EMST_CLK以驱动像素阵列120,驱动电路130用以接收扫描启动信号VST与扫描时钟脉冲信号VST_CLK以驱动该像素阵列120。
操作上,请同时参考图1与图2。图2为本发明一实施例之扫描启动信号VST1、扫描时钟脉冲信号VST1_CLK、发光启动信号EMST1与发光时钟脉冲信号EMST1_CLK之时序示意图。于第一模式(例如一般显示模式)中,驱动电路110接收发光启动信号EMST1与发光时钟脉冲信号EMST1_CLK以驱动像素阵列120,驱动电路130接收扫描启动信号VST1与扫描时钟脉冲信号VST1_CLK以驱动该像素阵列120。须说明的是,扫描启动信号VST1包含复数个脉冲,上述脉冲每一者的持续时间T2分别位于帧F1~F4每一者的期间内。发光启动信号EMST1包含复数个脉冲,并且上述脉冲每一者的持续时间T1分别与帧F1~F4每一者的至少部分期间重叠。举例而言,于帧F1内,发光启动信号EMST1的脉冲持续时间T1约为帧F1期间的10%。类似地,于帧F2~F4期间,发光启动信号EMST1的脉冲持续时间T1分别约为帧F2~F4期间每一者的10%。
关于第一模式的扫描时钟脉冲信号VST1_CLK与发光时钟脉冲信号EMST1_CLK,于帧F1~F4期间,扫描时钟脉冲信号VST1_CLK反复切换至高电平VH2与低电平VL2,发光时钟脉冲信号EMST1_CLK反复切换至高电平VH4与低电平VL4。
于本实施例中,以帧F1为例说明,驱动电路110、130为P型薄膜晶体管的栅极驱动阵列电路,因此位于高电平VH1的扫描启动信号VST1的部分为禁能信号,而帧F1当中位于低电平VL1的扫描启动信号VST1的部分则为使能信号;同理,位于高电平VH3的发光启动信号EMST1的脉冲为禁能信号,而帧F1当中位于低电平VL3的发光启动信号EMST1的部分则为使能信号,但本发明不以此为限。
请同时参考图1与图3。图3为本发明一实施例之扫描启动信号VST2、扫描时钟脉冲信号VST2_CLK、发光启动信号EMST2与发光时钟脉冲信号EMST2_CLK之时序示意图。于第二模式(例如跳帧(Frame skip)模式)中,驱动电路110接收发光启动信号EMST2与发光时钟脉冲信号EMST2_CLK以驱动像素阵列120,驱动电路130接收扫描启动信号VST2与扫描时钟脉冲信号VST2_CLK以驱动该像素阵列120。
须说明的是,扫描启动信号VST2包含一个脉冲,上述脉冲的持续时间T2位于帧F1期间内,并且扫描启动信号VST2于帧F2~F4期间内均维持在高电平VH1。换言之,于第二模式中,帧F1维持正常运作以更新画面,帧F2~F4被跳过(Skipped)而不进行画面更新,因此可减少功率消耗,并且第二模式的频率降为第一模式的频率的四分之一,但本发明不以此为限。发光启动信号EMST2包含一个脉冲,并且上述脉冲的持续时间T3与帧F1的至少部分期间重叠,并且发光启动信号EMST2于帧F2~F4期间内维持在低电平VL3。须说明的是,发光启动信号EMST1的脉冲持续时间T1分别约为帧F1~F4期间每一者的10%,因此发光启动信号EMST2的脉冲持续时间T3可以是帧F1~F4总期间的10%。换言之,于本实施例中,发光启动信号EMST2的脉冲持续时间T3为发光启动信号EMST1的脉冲每一者的持续时间T1的总和(亦即T3=4*T1)。
关于第二模式的扫描时钟脉冲信号VST2_CLK与发光时钟脉冲信号EMST2_CLK,于帧F1期间,扫描时钟脉冲信号VST2_CLK反复切换至高电平VH2与低电平VL2,并且于帧F2~F4期间,扫描时钟脉冲信号VST2_CLK维持于高电平VH2。另一方面,发光时钟脉冲信号EMST2_CLK于帧F1期间开始反复切换至高电平VH4与低电平VL4,并持续反复切换至高电平VH4与低电平VL4直到对应帧F1之数据传送至像素阵列120为止。当对应帧F1之数据传送至像素阵列120之后,发光时钟脉冲信号EMST2_CLK维持于高电平VH4直到帧F4结束。
如此一来,相较于第一模式,于第二模式中的显示装置100可通过将第一模式中帧F1~F4期间内的发光启动信号EMST1的数个脉冲(持续时间T1)整合为第二模式中对应于帧F1的发光启动信号EMST2的脉冲(持续时间T3),以及通过缩短在跳过帧F2~F4期间内的发光时钟脉冲信号EMST2_CLK之输出,以有效地维持帧F1~F4期间内的亮度表现并减少功率消耗。
须补充的是,上述高电平VH1、VH2、VH3、VH4可以是相同或不同的电压电平,低电平VL1、VL2、VL3、VL4可以是相同或不同的电压电平。
或者,于另一实施例中,可调整发光启动信号EMST2与发光时钟脉冲信号EMST2_CLK的时序。如图4所示,发光启动信号EMST2-1、EMST2-2的脉冲上升沿领先于帧F1期间。由于发光启动信号EMST2的脉冲之持续时间T3位于帧F1期间内,因此发光启动信号EMST2-1、EMST2-2的脉冲领先于发光启动信号EMST2。须说明的是,于本实施例中,发光启动信号EMST2、EMST2-1、EMST2-2的脉冲的持续时间T3均与扫描启动信号VST2的脉冲的持续时间T2重叠。
或者,于另一实施例中,为了达到良好的亮度表现,显示装置100可检测像素阵列120的亮度以供调整发光启动信号EMST2的脉冲的持续时间T3的宽度。举例而言,当像素阵列120的亮度大于第一亮度门槛值(可依实际需求弹性设计为过亮的亮度门槛值)时,将发光启动信号EMST2-3的脉冲的持续时间增加为时间T31,如图5所示。举另一例而言,当像素阵列120的亮度小于第二亮度门槛值(可依实际需求弹性设计为过暗的亮度门槛值)时,将发光启动信号EMST2-4的脉冲的持续时间缩短为时间T32,如图5所示。须说明的是,上述第一亮度门槛值可与第二亮度门槛值相同或不同。
综上所述,本发明的显示装置100可运作于第一模式(即一般显示模式)与第二模式(即跳帧模式)。当运作于第二模式时,显示装置100可通过将第一模式中帧F1~F4期间内的发光启动信号EMST1的数个脉冲(持续时间T1)整合为第二模式中对应于帧F1的发光启动信号EMST2的脉冲(持续时间T3),以及通过缩短在跳过帧F2~F4期间内的发光时钟脉冲信号EMST2_CLK之输出,以有效地维持帧F1~F4期间内的亮度表现并减少功率消耗。
当然,本发明还可有其它多种实施例,在不背离本发明精神及其实质的情况下,熟悉本领域的技术人员当可根据本发明作出各种相应的改变和变形,但这些相应的改变和变形都应属于本发明所附的权利要求的保护范围。
Claims (10)
1.一种显示装置的驱动方法,其特征在于,其中该显示装置包含一第一驱动电路与一像素阵列,该驱动方法包含:
于一第一模式中,藉由该第一驱动电路,接收一第一发光启动信号以驱动该像素阵列,其中该第一发光启动信号包含复数个第一脉冲,该些第一脉冲每一者之一持续时间分别与一第一帧以及至少一第二帧每一者至少部分期间重叠;以及
于一第二模式中,藉由该第一驱动电路,接收一第二发光启动信号以驱动该像素阵列,其中该第二发光启动信号包含一第二脉冲,该第二脉冲之一持续时间与该第一帧至少部分期间重叠,并且该第二发光启动信号于该至少一第二帧期间内维持在一第一电平。
2.如权利要求1所述的驱动方法,其特征在于,其中该显示装置更包含一第二驱动电路,该驱动方法更包含:
藉由该第二驱动电路,接收一扫描启动信号以驱动该像素阵列,其中该扫描启动信号包含一第三脉冲,该第三脉冲之一持续时间位于该第一帧期间内,并且该扫描启动信号于该至少一第二帧期间内维持在一第二电平。
3.如权利要求2所述的驱动方法,其特征在于,更包含:
藉由该第二驱动电路,接收一扫描时钟脉冲信号以驱动该像素阵列,其中该扫描时钟脉冲信号于该第一帧期间内切换至一第三电平与一第四电平至少一次,并且该扫描时钟脉冲信号于该至少一第二帧期间内维持在该第三电平。
4.如权利要求1所述的驱动方法,其特征在于,更包含:
藉由该第一驱动电路,接收一发光时钟脉冲信号以驱动该像素阵列,其中该发光时钟脉冲信号于该第一帧期间开始反复切换至一第五电平与一第六电平,并持续反复切换至该第五电平与该第六电平直到对应该第一帧之数据传送至该像素阵列为止,并且当对应该第一帧之该数据传送至该像素阵列之后,该发光时钟脉冲信号维持在该第五电平。
5.如权利要求2所述的驱动方法,其特征在于,其中该第三脉冲之该持续时间与该第二脉冲之该持续时间重叠。
6.如权利要求5所述的驱动方法,其特征在于,其中该第二发光启动信号之该第二脉冲之一上升沿领先于该第一帧期间。
7.如权利要求5所述的驱动方法,其特征在于,其中该第二发光启动信号之该第二脉冲之该持续时间位于该第一帧期间内。
8.如权利要求1所述的驱动方法,其特征在于,更包含:
检测该像素阵列之一亮度以调整该第二脉冲之该持续时间。
9.如权利要求8所述的驱动方法,其特征在于,其中检测该像素阵列之亮度以调整该第二脉冲之该持续时间包含:
当该像素阵列之该亮度大于一亮度门槛值时,增加该第二发光启动信号之该第二脉冲之该持续时间。
10.如权利要求8所述的驱动方法,其特征在于,其中检测该像素阵列之亮度以调整该第二脉冲之该持续时间包含:
当该像素阵列之亮度小于一亮度门槛值时,缩短该第二发光启动信号之该第二脉冲之该持续时间。
