Abstract
本发明涉及纸涂料,其包含至少一种颜料以及A)通过乳液聚合得到的聚合物水分散体(简称为乳液聚合物)和B)溶解或分散在水中的聚硅酸或分散在水中的二氧化硅(概括称作硅溶胶)。
Description
本发明涉及纸涂料,其包含至少一种颜料以及
A)一种可通过乳液聚合得到的聚合物水分散体(简称为乳液聚合物),和
B)一种溶解或分散在水中的聚硅酸或分散的二氧化硅(概括称作硅溶胶)。
除了水,纸涂料通常包含粘合剂、颜料和其它助剂如增稠剂。
为了简单而没有问题地加工含水纸涂料,期望纸涂料整体上有低粘度。低粘度也允许更高的固体含量。由于在干燥过程中必须除去的水分较少,也降低了能量成本。
因此,纸涂料的各组分必须互相进行调整以使粘度低,并且使涂布纸的性能特征,例如对机械载荷的抗性特别是抗剥性、光学外观如光滑度和光泽度以及可印性尽可能好。
WO 02/48459公开了纸涂料,其粘度通过添加高度交联的聚酰胺酯而降低。
EP-A-1 479 744描述了将聚合硅化合物如水溶性碱金属硅酸盐添加至压合式粘合剂以改进粘合。
具有低粘度和良好性能特性的纸涂料是本发明的一个目的。
因此,发现了上面定义的纸涂料。
根据本发明,纸涂料包含乳液聚合物A)和溶解或分散在水中的聚硅酸或分散的二氧化硅B)(概括称作硅溶胶)。
关于乳液聚合物A)
乳液聚合物优选包含至少40重量%,优选至少60重量%,尤其优选至少80重量%的所谓主要单体。
主要单体选自(甲基)丙烯酸C1-C20烷基酯、包含至多20个碳原子的羧酸的乙烯基酯、具有至多20个碳原子的乙烯基芳族化合物、烯键式不饱和腈、乙烯基卤、包含1-10个碳原子的醇的乙烯基醚、具有2-8个碳原子和一个或两个双键的脂族烃或这些单体的混合物。
例如可提及含有C1-C10烷基的(甲基)丙烯酸烷基酯,如甲基丙烯酸甲酯、丙烯酸甲酯、丙烯酸正丁酯、丙烯酸乙酯和丙烯酸2-乙基己酯。
(甲基)丙烯酸烷基酯的混合物也特别合适。
具有1-20个碳原子的羧酸的乙烯基酯例如为月桂酸乙烯酯、硬脂酸乙烯酯、丙酸乙烯酯、支链烷烃羧酸乙烯酯和乙酸乙烯酯。
合适的乙烯基芳族化合物是乙烯基甲苯、α-和对-甲基苯乙烯、α-丁基苯乙烯、4-正丁基苯乙烯、4-正癸基苯乙烯且优选苯乙烯。腈的实例是丙烯腈和甲基丙烯腈。
乙烯基卤是用氯、氟或溴取代的烯键式不饱和化合物,优选氯乙烯和偏二氯乙烯。
例如可提及乙烯基甲基醚或乙烯基异丁基醚作为乙烯基醚。优选具有1-4个碳原子的醇的乙烯基醚。
可提及乙烯、丙烯、丁二烯、异戊二烯和氯丁二烯作为具有2-8个碳原子和一个或两个烯属双键的烃。
优选的主要单体是(甲基)丙烯酸C1-C10烷基酯,以及(甲基)丙烯酸烷基酯与乙烯基芳族化合物尤其是苯乙烯的混合物(也概括称为聚丙烯酸酯粘合剂);或具有两个双键的烃,尤其是丁二烯,或这些烃与乙烯基芳族化合物尤其是苯乙烯的混合物(也概括称为聚丁二烯粘合剂)。
在聚丁二烯粘合剂的情况下,丁二烯与乙烯基芳族化合物(尤其是苯乙烯)的重量比可以例如从10:90至90:10,优选从20:80至80:20。
特别优选聚丁二烯粘合剂。
除了主要单体,聚合物可包含其它单体,例如具有羧基、磺基或膦酸基团的单体。优选羧基。例如可提及丙烯酸、甲基丙烯酸、亚甲基丁二酸、顺丁烯二酸或富马酸以及乌头酸。烯键式不饱和酸在乳液聚合物中的含量通常低于5重量%。
其它单体例如还有包含羟基的单体,尤其是(甲基)丙烯酸C1-C10羟烷基酯,或酰胺如(甲基)丙烯酰胺。
通过乳液聚合制备聚合物,其因此为乳液聚合物。
在乳液聚合中,使用离子型和/或非离子型乳化剂和/或保护胶体或稳定剂作为表面活性化合物。
通常表面活性物质的使用量为0.1-10重量%,基于待聚合单体。
用于乳液聚合的水溶性引发剂例如是过二硫酸的铵和碱金属盐如过二硫酸钠、过氧化氢或有机过氧化物如过氧化氢叔丁基。
所谓的氧化-还原(氧化还原)引发剂体系也适合。
引发剂的量通常是0.1-10重量%,优选0.5-5重量%,基于待聚合单体。在乳液聚合中也可以使用多种不同引发剂。
在聚合中可以使用调节剂,例如其使用量为0-3重量份,基于100重量份待聚合单体,通过该调节剂降低了摩尔质量。例如,合适的是具有硫羟基团的化合物如叔丁硫醇、乙基丙烯酰基硫基乙醇酸酯、巯基乙炔醇、巯基丙基三甲氧基硅烷或叔十二烷硫醇,或没有硫羟基团的调节剂,尤其如异松油烯。
乳液聚合通常在30-130℃,优选50-100℃下进行。聚合介质可仅由水组成,或者由水和可与其溶混的液体如甲醇的混合物组成。优选仅使用水。乳液聚合可以分批法进行或者以包括逐步或梯度程序的进料方法形式进行。优选进料方法,其中首先取一部分聚合批料,加热到聚合温度并预聚合,然后将剩余的聚合批料投料至聚合区,通常通过多个空间上分离的进料(其中的一个或多个包含纯形式或乳化形式的单体)连续地、逐步地或浓度梯度叠加地进行投料,同时维持聚合。在聚合中也可以首先加入聚合物种子,例如为了较好地调节粒度。
所属技术领域的普通技术人员已知自由基水乳液聚合过程中将引发剂添加至聚合容器中的方式。在自由基水乳液聚合的过程中,其可以完全地在最初时加入聚合容器中,或者以其消耗速率连续地或逐步地使用。特别地,这取决于引发剂体系的化学性质以及聚合温度。优选最初添加一部分,并以消耗速率将剩余部分进料至聚合区。
为了去除残余单体,在实际乳液聚合结束后,即在至少95%单体转化后,通常也添加引发剂。
在进料方法中,可以从上面、在侧面或通过反应器底部从下面将各个组分添加至反应器中。
在乳液聚合中获得了固体含量通常为15-75重量%,优选40-75重量%的聚合物水分散体。
关于硅溶胶B)
从硅酸(Si(OH)4)开始,最初通过缩合形成硅酸链(聚硅酸),最后也通过OH侧基的进一步缩合形成三维二氧化硅网络(二氧化硅颗粒)。聚硅酸是溶解或分散在水中的二氧化硅颗粒,由术语硅溶胶总称。聚硅酸通常仍然是水溶性的;由于它们的颗粒结构,二氧化硅颗粒以这些颗粒在水中的分散体形式存在(也称作胶体溶液)。
优选二氧化硅颗粒的水分散体。在表面上,颗粒携带着不缩合形成二氧化硅结构的羟基。这些羟基导致二氧化硅颗粒的自分散性;因此不需要伴随使用其它表面活性助剂。
二氧化硅颗粒的平均粒度优选为2-100nm,尤其优选5-75nm(重均)。
硅酸或二氧化硅颗粒也可包含部分代替氢原子的其它组分或杂质如金属原子,或者被其它矿物质污染。这些组分或杂质的含量优选低于5重量%,特别优选低于1重量%,基于硅溶胶(固体)。
可以优选以简单方式将硅溶胶B)添加至乳液聚合所得到的A)的聚合物分散体中。
关于纸涂料
纸涂料包含尤其是以下材料作为组分:
a)一种或多种粘合剂
b)如果合适,增稠剂
c)如果合适,荧光染料或磷光染料,尤其作为荧光增白剂
d)颜料
e)硅溶胶
f)其它助剂如匀平剂或其它染料。
除了上面的乳液聚合物,可伴随使用其它粘合剂(如包括天然聚合物如淀粉)作为粘合剂。基于粘合剂的总量,乳液聚合物的比例优选为至少50重量%,尤其优选至少70重量%。纸涂料包含其量优选为1-50重量份,特别优选5-20重量份的粘合剂,基于100重量份的颜料。
除了合成聚合物,合适的增稠剂b)特别是纤维素,优选羧甲基纤维素。
此处术语颜料d)理解为意指无机固体。这些固体作为颜料负责纸涂料的颜色(尤其是白色)和/或仅有惰性填料的功能。颜料通常包括白色颜料如硫酸钡、碳酸钙、磺基铝酸钙、高岭土、滑石、二氧化钛、氧化锌、白垩或涂布粘土或硅酸盐。
上面提到了合适的硅溶胶e)。纸涂料中,每100重量份颜料硅溶胶的含量优选为0.1-30重量份,特别优选0.1-15重量份,非常特别优选0.5-10重量份,尤其是0.5-5重量份。
可用传统方法制备纸涂料。优选预先分别制备A)和B)的混合物,并仅在其后添加至纸涂料中,即与其它组分尤其是颜料混合。
本发明的纸涂料具有低粘度且适合用于涂布如原纸或纸板。可用传统方法进行涂布并随后干燥。涂布后的纸或纸板有良好的性能特征;尤其是它们在已知的印刷方法如柔性版印刷、凸版印刷、凹版印刷或胶印中也易于印刷。尤其在胶印方法中,它们导致高抗剥性以及快速且良好的油墨和水接受性。用纸涂料涂布的纸可容易地用于所有印刷方法,尤其是胶印方法。
实施例
通过混合从表中所述组分制备纸涂料,并测量其粘度。
Claims (6)
1.一种纸涂料,其包含至少一种颜料以及
A)一种通过乳液聚合得到的聚合物水分散体(简称为乳液聚合物),和
B)一种溶解或分散在水中的聚硅酸或分散的二氧化硅(概括称作硅溶胶)。
2.如权利要求1所述的纸涂料,其中乳液聚合物由至少40重量%所谓的主要单体组成,这些主要单体选自(甲基)丙烯酸C1-C20烷基酯、包含至多20个碳原子的羧酸的乙烯基酯、具有至多20个碳原子的乙烯基芳族化合物、烯键式不饱和腈、乙烯基卤、包含1-10个碳原子的醇的乙烯基醚、具有2-8个碳原子和一个或两个双键的脂族烃或这些单体的混合物。
3.如权利要求1或2所述的纸涂料,其中乳液聚合物由至少60重量%的丁二烯或丁二烯和苯乙烯的混合物组成,或者由至少60重量%的(甲基)丙烯酸C1-C20烷基酯或(甲基)丙烯酸C1-C20烷基酯和苯乙烯的混合物组成。
4.如权利要求1-3任一项所述的纸涂料,其中硅溶胶是在表面上有羟基的二氧化硅颗粒的水分散体。
5.如权利要求1-4任一项所述的纸涂料,其中硅溶胶的量为0.1-30重量份/100重量份颜料。
6.一种纸,其用权利要求1-5任一项所述的纸涂料涂布。
