背景技术
等离子体显示设备包括等离子体显示板和用于驱动该等离子体显示板的驱动器。

等离子体显示板100包括彼此平行的第一电极(Y1至Yn)和第二电极(Z1至Zn),并且还包括与第一电极和第二电极相交的第三电极(X1至Xm)。

通过调整在维持期中所施加的维持信号的数目,可以设置相对应的子场的灰度级权重。即,通过使用维持期,可以将预定的灰度级权重赋予每个子场。例如,通过将第一个子场的灰度级权重设置为20并且将第二个子场的灰度级权重设置为21,可以确定每个子场的灰度级权重,使得每个子场的灰度级以2n(其中n=0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7)的比率增加。通过根据每个子场中的灰度级权重来调整每个子场的维持期内提供的维持信号的数目,实现了各种图像的灰度级。
实施例中的等离子体显示设备使用多个图像帧以便实现图像,例如以便显示1秒的图像。例如,为了显示1秒的图像,使用60个图像帧。在这种情况下,一个图像帧的长度T可以是1/60秒,即16.67ms。
图3仅示出一个图像帧包括8个子场的情况,然而,可以不同地改变构成一个图像帧的子场的数目。例如,一个图像帧可以包括从第一子场至第十二子场的12个子场或10个子场。
此外,在图3中,在一个图像帧中,以灰度级权重增加的顺序来设置子场,然而,在一个图像帧中可以以灰度级权重降低的顺序或不考虑灰度级权重来设置子场。
图4是图示实施例中的等离子体显示设备在图像帧中包括的子场中的操作例子的示图。将要在下文中描述的信号通过图1的驱动器110来提供。
参考图4,在用于初始化的复位期的上升期内,其中电压在从第一电压V1迅速上升至第二电压V2之后逐渐从第二电压V2上升至第三电压V3的斜坡上升信号被施加到第一电极。第一电压V1可以是接地电平GND的电压。
在上升期内,通过斜坡上升信号在放电单元内产生弱的暗放电亦即上升放电。通过上升放电,一些壁电荷可以在放电单元内累积。
在上升期之后的下降期内,在斜坡上升信号之后具有与斜坡上升信号的极性相反的极性的斜坡下降信号被提供到第一电极。
在提供从第五电压V5上升至第六电压V6的复位稳定信号之后,斜坡下降信号从小于峰值电压亦即斜坡上升信号的第三电压V3的第七电压V7逐渐下降至第八电压V8。
当提供斜坡下降信号时,在放电单元内产生微弱的消除放电亦即下降放电。通过下降放电,在放电单元内均匀地保持用以稳定地产生寻址放电的壁电荷。
在向第一电极提供斜坡上升信号之后提供斜坡下降信号之前的时期内,至少一个复位稳定信号被提供到第一电极,并且至少一个维持上升信号被提供到第二电极。随后详细地描述复位稳定信号和维持上升信号。
图5是图示斜坡上升信号和斜坡下降信号的另一例子的示图。
参考图5,斜坡上升信号可以包括如图5(a)所示的具有不同斜率的第一斜坡上升信号和第二斜坡上升信号。
第一斜坡上升信号以第一斜率从第一电压V1逐渐上升到第二电压V2,并且第二斜坡上升信号以第二斜率从第二电压V2逐渐上升到第三电压V3。
第二斜坡上升信号的第二斜率可以比第一斜率平缓。如果第二斜率比第一斜率平缓,则电压相对迅速地上升直到产生上升放电为止,并且在产生上升放电的同时电压相对缓慢地上升,使得通过上升放电产生的光量减少。
因此,可以提高对比度特性。
另外如图5(b)所示,在停止提供斜坡上升信号之后,电压可以在下降到不同于图5(a)的第四电压V4的第10电压V10之后再次下降至第五电压V5。
在复位期之前还可以包括预复位期。参考图6来对此进行描述。
图6是图示预复位期的示图。
参考图6,在复位期之前可以包括预复位期,并且逐渐下降至第十一电压V11的预斜坡信号可以在预复位期内被提供到第一电极Y。
此外,当预斜坡被提供到第一电极时,极性与预斜坡信号的极性相反的预维持信号可以被提供到第二电极。
此外,预维持信号可以基本上均匀地维持预维持电压Vpz。在此,预维持电压Vpz可以等于将要在维持期内提供的维持信号的维持电压Vs。
预斜坡信号在预复位期内被提供到第一电极,并且如果预维持信号被提供到第二电极,则预定极性的壁电荷累积在第一电极上,并且极性与第一电极的极性相反的壁电荷累积在第二电极上。例如,正(+)壁电荷累积在第一电极上,且负(-)壁电荷累积在第二电极上。
因此,在预复位期之后的复位期内可以产生足够强度的上升放电,并且可以完全稳定地执行初始化。
此外,即使在复位期内提供到第一电极的斜坡上升信号的电压变小,也可以产生足够强度的上升放电。
为了确保驱动时间,预复位期可以包括在图像帧的子场当中按时间顺序排在最前面的子场中的复位期之前,或者预复位期可以包括在图像帧的子场当中2或3个子场中的复位期之前。
另外,可以在所有子场中省略预复位期。
在复位期之后的寻址期内,用于基本上维持高于最低电压亦即斜坡下降信号的第八电压V8的电压的扫描偏置信号被提供到第一电极。
此外,从扫描偏置信号下降扫描电压ΔVy的扫描信号可以被提供到第一电极。
扫描信号的宽度在子场单元中可以被改变。即,在至少一个子场中,扫描信号的宽度可以不同于其它子场中的扫描信号的宽度。例如,按时间顺序排在后面的子场中的扫描信号的宽度可以小于按时间顺序排在前面的子场中的扫描信号的宽度。
当扫描信号被提供到第一电极时,数据电压上升幅度ΔVd的数据信号可以被提供到第三电极,以便与扫描信号相对应。
当提供扫描信号和数据信号时,通过复位期内产生的壁电荷得到的壁电压被添加到扫描信号和数据信号之间的电压差,由此可以在向其提供数据信号的放电单元内产生寻址放电。
维持偏置信号可以被提供到第二电极,以便防止由于寻址期内的第二电极的干扰而使寻址放电变得不稳定。
维持偏置信号可以基本上均匀地维持在维持偏置电压Vz,该维持偏置电压Vz小于维持期内提供的维持信号的电压并且大于接地电平GND的电压。
此后,在用于显示图像的维持期内,可以将维持信号提供到第一电极和第二电极中的至少一个。例如,维持信号可以交替地被提供到第一电极和第二电极。
如果在由寻址放电所选择的放电单元中提供维持信号,则当在维持信号的维持电压Vs被添加到放电单元内的壁电压的同时提供维持信号时,可以在第一电极和第二电极之间产生维持放电亦即显示放电。
可以使用这种方法来实现图像。
详细地描述复位稳定信号和维持上升信号。
图7是图示复位稳定信号、维持上升信号和维持信号的示图。
参考图7,复位稳定信号、维持上升信号和维持信号包括上升期、维持期和下降期。
图7(a)示出复位稳定信号,图7(b)示出维持上升信号,并且图7(c)示出维持信号。
复位稳定信号的上升期是其中电压从复位稳定信号的最低电压上升至最高电压的时期,复位稳定信号的维持期是其中复位稳定信号的最高电压在预定时间期间维持在该电压的时期,并且复位稳定信号的下降期是其中电压从复位稳定信号的最高电压下降到最低电压的时期。
此外,复位稳定信号的上升期、维持期和下降期全部加在一起的时期是复位稳定信号的宽度,并且复位稳定信号的宽度可以变化。稍后对此进行描述。
维持上升信号以及维持信号的上升期、维持期和下降期的说明基本上与复位稳定信号的说明相同,并因此省略其描述。
维持上升信号的上升期基本上等于维持信号的上升期,并且如果维持上升信号的最高电压基本上等于维持信号的最高电压,则维持上升信号的斜率基本上等于维持信号的斜率,可以共享能量回收电路,并且可以使用相同的电压发生器。
图8是图示复位稳定信号和维持上升信号的示图。
参考图8,在提供斜坡上升信号之后提供斜坡下降信号之前的时期内,至少一个复位稳定信号被提供到第一电极,并且至少一个维持上升信号被提供到第二电极。
复位稳定信号的电压幅度ΔVYR基本上等于维持上升信号的电压幅度ΔVZR。此外,至少一个复位稳定信号的电压幅度ΔVYR或至少一个维持上升信号的电压幅度ΔVZR可以基本上等于在维持期内施加到第一电极和第二电极中的至少一个的维持信号的电压幅度ΔVs。
提供复位稳定信号和维持上升信号的原因如下所述。
假设由于在复位期的上升期内产生强度过大的上升放电,壁电荷的量在放电单元内增加过度。
在这种情况下,由于壁电荷的量过大,即使在寻址期内不产生寻址放电,也会在维持期内产生错误放电如维持放电。因此,图像的画面质量恶化。
如实施例中那样,如果复位稳定信号被提供到第一电极,并且维持上升信号被提供到第二电极,则在寻址期内产生寻址放电之前,可以通过复位稳定信号和维持上升信号在第一电极和第二电极之间产生放电。
通过复位稳定信号和维持上升信号产生的放电而使过度累积的壁电荷的一部分被消除,由此在其中不产生寻址放电的放电单元中不产生维持放电。因此,通过抑制错误放电的产生,可以防止图像的画面质量恶化。
此外,如果复位稳定信号的宽度或维持上升信号的宽度基本上大于维持信号的宽度,则产生诸如维持放电的放电,从而增加光量,使得可以减少对比度特性。因此,复位稳定信号的宽度或维持上升信号的宽度变得基本上小于维持信号的宽度,并因此即使产生放电,光量也变成最小,因而防止对比度特性的降低。
此外,至少一个复位稳定信号和至少一个维持上升信号交迭。
例如,如图8中那样,当维持上升信号包括第一维持上升信号和第二维持上升信号时,第二维持上升信号和复位稳定信号可以交迭。
当交迭的复位稳定信号和维持上升信号亦即复位稳定信号和第二维持上升信号的提供时间点之间的差Δt2过小时,放电的强度变得过小,因而壁电荷不能被完全消除。此外,当交迭的复位稳定信号和维持上升信号的提供时间点之间的差Δt2过大时,在壁电荷的预定部分通过放电而被消除之后,壁电荷再次累积,因而壁电荷的量在放电单元中增加过度。
换言之,复位稳定信号的维持期和维持上升信号的上升期或维持上升信号的下降期可以交迭,并且复位稳定信号的上升期和维持上升信号的上升期可以不交迭。
由于这个原因,交迭的复位稳定信号和维持上升信号亦即复位稳定信号和第二维持上升信号的提供时间点之间的差Δt2可以被设置成100ns至600ns或200ns至400ns。
此外,由于与交迭的复位稳定信号和维持上升信号亦即复位稳定信号和第二维持上升信号的提供时间点之间的差Δt2被设置成100ns至600ns或者200ns至400ns的原因相同的原因,交迭的复位稳定信号和维持上升信号亦即复位稳定信号和第二维持上升信号的终结时间点之间的差Δt3可以是100ns至600ns或者200ns至400ns。
当多个维持上升信号当中按时间顺序排在最前面的维持上升信号(即第一维持上升信号)被提供时,具有逐渐下降电压的下降信号,例如低于斜坡上升信号的峰值电压的第四电压V4至第五电压V5,可以在提供斜坡上升信号之后被提供给第一电极。
当提供下降信号时,第一电极和第二电极之间产生放电,由此在放电单元内过度累积的壁电荷的预定部分可以被消除。因此,可以防止错误放电的产生。
当下降信号的终结时间点和多个维持上升信号当中按时间顺序排在最前面的维持上升信号亦即第一维持上升信号的终结时间点之间的差Δt1过小时,放电的强度过小,由此壁电荷不能被完全消除。此外,当下降信号的终结时间点和第一维持上升信号的终结时间点之间的差Δt1过大时,在由下降信号和第一维持上升信号所产生的放电消除壁电荷的预定部分之后,壁电荷可以再次累积。
由于这个原因,下降信号的终结时间点和多个维持上升信号当中按时间顺序排在最前面的维持上升信号亦即第一维持上升信号的终结时间点之间的差Δt1可以设置成100ns至600ns或200ns至400ns。
已经描述了维持上升信号的数目为多于一个的情况。可替选地,维持上升信号的数目可以是1。
图9是图示维持上升信号数目变化例子的示图。
参考图9,维持上升信号的数目可以是1。维持上升信号可以与复位稳定信号交迭。
维持上升信号的提供时间点和复位稳定信号的提供时间点之间的差Δt4由于上述原因而可以设置成100ns至600ns或200ns至400ns。
此外,维持上升信号的提供时间点和复位稳定信号的提供时间点之间的差Δt5由于上述原因而可以设置成100ns至600ns或者200ns至400ns。
维持上升信号或复位稳定信号的电压幅度和上升信号的提供时间可以被改变。其描述如下。
图10至12是图示复位稳定信号或维持上升信号的电压幅度和上升信号的提供时间的示图。
参考图10,维持上升信号的数目为多于一个,并且多个维持上升信号中的至少一个的提供时间不同于其它维持上升信号的提供时间。
例如,维持上升信号包括第一维持上升信号和第二维持上升信号,并且第一维持上升信号的提供时间W1可以长于第二维持上升信号的提供时间W2。
在图10中,下降信号的终结时间点和第一维持上升信号的终结时间点之间的差Δt6、复位稳定信号的提供时间点和第二维持上升信号的提供时间点之间的差Δt7或复位稳定信号的终结时间点和第二维持上升信号的终结时间点之间的差Δt8由于上述原因而可以设置成100ns至600ns或者200ns至400ns。

例如,复位稳定信号包括第一复位稳定信号和第二复位稳定信号,并且第一复位稳定信号的提供时间W3可以长于第二复位稳定信号的提供时间W4。
在图11中,第二维持上升信号与第一复位稳定信号和第二复位稳定信号共同交迭。

参考图12,维持上升信号的数目为多于一个,并且多个维持上升信号中的至少一个的电压幅度不同于其它维护上升信号的电压幅度。
例如,维持上升信号包括第一维持上升信号、第二维持上升信号和第三维持上升信号,并且第一维持上升信号和第二维持上升信号的电压幅度ΔV1可以大于第三维持上升信号的电压幅度ΔV2。
如上所述,复位稳定信号或维持上升信号的脉宽或电压幅度可以不同地改变。
如果等离子体显示板的温度发生变化,则放电单元内的壁电荷的分布特性也可以改变。例如,在特定温度下,放电单元内的壁电荷的量可能增加过度。因此,可能产生错误放电。
如实施例中的那样,如果复位稳定信号和维持上升信号被提供到第一电极和第二电极,则等离子体显示板可以防止特定温度下的错误放电的产生。即,可以防止与等离子体显示板的温度相关的错误放电的产生。
图13是图示在考虑等离子体显示板的环境温度或温度的情况下使用复位稳定信号和维持上升信号的方法的例子的示图。
参考图13,当等离子体显示板的环境温度或温度是第一温度时,省略复位稳定信号和维持上升信号,如A区中那样;而当等离子体显示板的环境温度或温度是高于第一温度的第二温度时,可以将复位稳定信号和维持上升信号提供给第一电极和第二电极,如B区中那样。这种设置原因如下所述。
随着等离子体显示板的温度增加,放电点火电压由于诸如电介质层恶化的原因而逐渐降低。因此,在等离子体显示板的温度相对高的第二温度下,与第一温度相比较,壁电荷的量在复位期之后增加过度。因此,在具有相对稳定的壁电荷量的第一时间段内,复位稳定信号和维持上升信号未被使用,而在具有过多的壁电荷量的第二时间段内,使用复位稳定信号和维持上升信号。
此时,第一温度时期是0至40℃的常温期,而第二温度时期则是超过40℃的高温期。
图14是图示使用图像帧内随机子场中的复位稳定信号和维持上升信号的方法的例子的示图。
如图14中那样,假设一个图像帧包括总共7个子场(SF1、SF2、SF3、SF4、SF5、SF6和SF7)。
上升信号和维持上升信号可以不在低灰度级子场中提供。低灰度级子场可以是第三子场或以下。如图14(a)中那样,在第一子场SF1中,可以不提供复位稳定信号和维持上升信号。然而,如图14(b)中那样,在灰度级权重不同于第一子场SF1的灰度级权重的第六子场SF6中,可以使用复位稳定信号和维持上升信号。
以这种方式,如果在图像帧的多个子场的随机子场中使用复位稳定信号和维持上升信号,则可以完全确保驱动裕量。
如上所述,在实施例中的等离子体显示设备中,通过使用斜坡上升信号和斜坡下降信号之间的复位稳定信号和维持上升信号来消除上升期内过度累积的壁电荷的预定部分,防止了错误放电的产生,并从而防止了图像的画面质量恶化。
前述实施例和优点仅是示例性的,并且不解释为限制本发明。本教导可以容易地应用于其它类型的设备。前述实施例的说明旨在是示例性的,而没有限制权利要求的范围。许多替换、修改和改变对于本领域技术人员而言将会是明显的。
工业实用性
等离子体显示设备及其驱动方法防止了放电产生错误放电,并提高了图像的画面质量。
Claims (20)
1.一种等离子体显示设备,包括:
等离子体显示板,其包括第一电极和第二电极;以及
驱动器,其在复位期的上升期内对所述第一电极提供电压逐渐上升的斜坡上升信号,在所述上升期之后的下降期内对所述第一电极提供电压逐渐下降的斜坡下降信号,并且在提供所述斜坡上升信号之后提供所述斜坡下降信号之前的时期内对所述第一电极提供至少一个复位稳定信号。
2.根据权利要求1所述的等离子体显示设备,其中,
所述驱动器在提供所述斜坡上升信号之后提供所述斜坡下降信号之前的时期内对所述第二电极提供至少一个维持上升信号。
3.根据权利要求2所述的等离子体显示设备,其中,
所述复位稳定信号的最高电压基本上等于所述维持上升信号的最高电压或在维持期期间对所述第一电极或所述第二电极提供的维持信号的最高电压。
4.根据权利要求1所述的等离子体显示设备,其中,
复位稳定信号的数目为多于一个,并且
多个复位稳定信号中的至少一个的宽度不同于其它复位稳定信号的宽度。
5.根据权利要求2所述的等离子体显示设备,其中,
维持上升信号的数目为多于一个,并且
多个维持上升信号中的至少一个的宽度不同于其它维持上升信号的宽度。
6.根据权利要求5所述的等离子体显示设备,其中,
所述复位稳定信号或所述维持上升信号中的至少一个的宽度小于所述维持信号的宽度。
7.根据权利要求2所述的等离子体显示设备,其中,
维持上升信号的数目为多于一个,并且
多个维持上升信号中的至少一个的电压幅度不同于其它维持上升信号的电压幅度。
8.根据权利要求2所述的等离子体显示设备,其中,
所述至少一个复位稳定信号和所述至少一个维持上升信号在至少一个部分中交迭。
9.根据权利要求7所述的等离子体显示设备,其中,
所述复位稳定信号和所述维持上升信号的提供时间点之间的差是100ns至600ns,并且
所述复位稳定信号和所述维持上升信号的终结时间点之间的差是100ns至600ns。
10.根据权利要求2所述的等离子体显示设备,其中,
维持上升信号的数目为多于一个,并且
在将多个维持上升信号当中按时间顺序排在最前面的维持上升信号提供给所述第二电极的时间段期间,在对所述第一电极提供所述斜坡上升信号之后,以低于所述斜坡上升信号的峰值电压的电压来提供下降信号。
11.根据权利要求1所述的等离子体显示设备,其中,
当所述等离子体显示板的环境温度或温度是高于第一温度的第二温度时,对所述第一电极提供所述复位稳定信号。
12.根据权利要求11所述的等离子体显示设备,其中,
所述第一温度是0至40℃,并且所述第二温度超过40℃。
13.根据权利要求4所述的等离子体显示设备,其中,
上升到所述维持信号的最高电压的时期基本上等于上升到所述维持上升信号的最高电压的时期。
14.一种用于驱动包括第一电极和第二电极的等离子体显示设备的方法,包括:
在复位期的上升期内对所述第一电极提供电压逐渐上升的斜坡上升信号,并且在所述上升期之后的下降期内对所述第一电极提供电压逐渐下降的斜坡下降信号;以及
在提供所述斜坡上升信号之后提供所述斜坡下降信号之前的时期内对所述第一电极提供至少一个复位稳定信号。
15.根据权利要求14所述的方法,还包括:
在提供所述斜坡上升信号之后提供所述斜坡下降信号之前的时期内对所述第二电极提供至少一个维持上升信号。
16.根据权利要求15所述的方法,其中,
所述复位稳定信号的最高电压基本上等于所述维持上升信号的最高电压或在维持期期间对所述第一电极或所述第二电极提供的维持信号的最高电压。
17.根据权利要求15所述的方法,其中,
所述复位稳定信号或所述维持上升信号中的至少一个的宽度小于所述维持信号的宽度。
18.根据权利要求15所述的方法,其中,
维持上升信号的数目为多于一个,并且
多个维持上升信号中的至少一个的电压幅度不同于其它维护上升信号的电压幅度。
19.根据权利要求15所述的方法,其中,
所述至少一个复位稳定信号和所述至少一个维持上升信号在至少一个部分中交迭。
20.根据权利要求14所述的方法,其中,
当所述等离子体显示板的环境温度或温度是高于第一温度的第二温度时,对所述第一电极提供所述复位稳定信号。
