The present invention relates to a modular clamping vice comprising a base element carrying at least two clamping elements adjustable in position relative to each other, said clamping elements each comprising a support arranged to be fixed to said base element and a jaw carried by this support, the support comprising fixing elements for fixing it to said base element, and the support and the jaw being integral with one another and comprising means for allowing the axial movement of the jaw by support.
There are already known clamps of various types, specially intended for the machining of precision parts, in particular in numerically controlled machining centers. The jaws are generally movable relative to a support and the clamping of the parts is obtained by the axial displacement of these jaws on this support.
These clamps do not meet the requirements imposed by various uses, and in particular cannot be quickly adapted to the clamping of parts of various shapes and dimensions.
The present invention proposes to overcome these various drawbacks by producing a modular vice that can be equipped with different jaws adapted to multiple applications and capable of being rapidly modified according to the requirements imposed by these different applications.
For this purpose, the clamping vice according to the invention is characterized in that said means for fixing the jaw to the support and for moving it axially relative to the latter, comprise a frustoconical element engaged in a recess of complementary shape, said frustoconical element being arranged to move in a direction perpendicular to the direction of movement of the jaw and said recess being formed in the support of this jaw.
The present invention will be better understood with reference to the description of an exemplary embodiment and the attached drawing in which:
fig. 1 represents a partial top view of a clamping vice according to the invention,
fig. 2 shows an axial sectional view of the vice illustrated in FIG. 1,
fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view along a vertical plane A-A of the vice according to the invention, and
fig. 4 shows a cross-sectional view along a vertical plane B-B of the vice according to the invention.
With reference to the figures, the vice shown comprises a basic element 10 having the shape of a rail whose profile represents a U, a set of clamping elements 11 each comprising a support 12 and a jaw 13. The rail is consists of two lateral flanks 14 and 15 and a central block 16 to which the lateral flanks are fixed by means of screws 17.
The lateral flanks 14, 15 each have a grooved support surface 18 which is arranged to cooperate with a grooved contact surface 19 of the support 12. The grooves of these elements are of complementary shape, which allows precise operation and maintenance in the effective position of the supports 12 on the rail 10. To ensure that the support on the rail is held in position, there are two screws 20 engaged in a retaining part 21 which has two lateral extensions 22 respectively under two shoulders 23 defined in the upper part of the lateral flanks 14 and 15 of the rail 10. A thrust spring 24 is arranged in two corresponding recesses in the support 12 and the retaining part 21. This spring tends to separate these two components from one another.
The support 12 being rigidly fixed on the rail by means of the screws 20, the displacement of the clamping jaw 13 is obtained thanks to a frustoconical element 25 which is positioned in a recess of complementary shape 26 formed in the support 12. A screw 27 of which the lower end is engaged in a stopper 28 retained by the shoulders 23 defined above makes it possible to vertically move the frustoconical element 25. Due to its force, the vertical displacement of this element generates an axial displacement of the clamping jaw 13 which is linked to the support 12 by guide rods (not shown) engaged in bores 29.
In the example shown, a part 30 is clamped between a jaw 13 of a first clamping element and the support 12 of a second clamping element. This support 12 in fact constitutes a fixed jaw, the jaw 13 constituting a movable jaw. The support 12 or fixed jaw is precisely adjusted relative to the base element 10 in the form of a rail since the grooves of this rail have the shape of teeth precision-machined, the crests of which are spaced one millimeter apart with a accuracy of one thousandth. The precise identification of the parts fixed in this vice is effected by indexing the fixed jaws 12 by means of the grooves which serve to identify these fixed jaws. As a result, the position of the workpieces is identified precisely thanks to the precise identification of the fixed jaws.
One can also provide that the rail 10 carries a series of clamping elements, the number of which is limited only by the length of the rail, so that one can simultaneously fix a succession of parts taken respectively between a jaw 13 and a support 12.
The rail 10 can be fixed to any suitable work surface by means of screws (not shown) housed in bores 31 provided for this purpose in the central block 16.
