The present invention relates to a method and a device for calcining green coke in a calcining device and then cooling the coke in a cooling device.
It is known to use green coke and, in particular, so-called green petroleum coke, which usually has larger or smaller proportions of water and other volatile substances, such as e.g. Calcines hydrocarbons, in particular from the series of aromatic hydrocarbons, i.e. to expel these volatile components by heat treatment. As is known, the volatile fractions, in particular the higher and more volatile these fractions, lead to a porous calcine. Porous calcine, for its part, has a low bulk density which, for example, leads to products of less than optimal density in the manufacture of anodes. Such anodes in turn lead to increased and thus undesirable additional anode consumption.
For this reason, there is also a tendency among experts for calcining only coke with low levels of volatile components. In order to achieve a low porosity of the coke, the calcining process must be carried out slowly, which leads to low productivity. The use of a precalciner is also unsatisfactory, since additional investments are necessary and increased energy consumption can be recorded.
The object of the present invention is to provide a process for the production of calcined coke which has a high density and the lowest possible volatile constituents and from which e.g. Anodes can be produced that have a low porosity. In addition, the process should enable the processing of so-called coke with high proportions of water and volatile components.
According to the invention, this is achieved by adding the wet green coke at room temperature with calcined coke at a temperature of over 1000 ° C. to a reactor and mixing it intimately, the mixture being adjusted to temperatures above 100 ° C. and the coke mixture with the release of the water this intermediate stage is fed to a calciner, the remaining volatile constituents being driven off and a partial stream of the calcined coke leaving the calciner being fed to the reactor in a circuit.
Green coke contains large amounts of volatile constituents, for example 8 to 14% by weight of volatile organic materials, e.g. aromatic hydrocarbons. Green coke also contains, for example, 5 to 12% by weight of water as volatile constituents. Calcined coke should have neither water nor volatile organic components and efforts are being made to bring the weight percentages of these substances to 0% by weight.
When treating green coke, it can be assumed that the water is expelled up to temperatures of around 100 ° C and the volatile organic components at temperatures of around 300 to 800 ° C.
According to the process of the present invention, for example 4 to 9% by weight of green coke are combined with one part by weight of calcined coke in a reactor. 5.5 to 8.5 parts by weight, preferably 7.5 to 7.7 parts by weight and in particular 7.6 parts by weight of green coke are expediently combined with a part of calcined coke. The green coke is led, for example, from a storage container into the reactor and therefore has room temperature or ambient temperature, which is accordingly between 0 and 30 ° C. and ideally around 20 ° C. The calcined coke has a temperature of 1000 ° C. to 1500 ° C., preferably from 1250 ° C. to 1400 ° C. and in particular of 1350 ° C. In the reactor, the green coke and the hot calcined coke must be mixed intensively.
A fluidized bed reactor is therefore preferably used as the reactor. The fluidized bed is maintained, for example, by mechanical excitation or, in the case of fluidization, by a gas stream. The maximum grain size of the green coke and the calcined coke in the fluidized bed reactor is 20 to 40 mm.
In the fluidized bed, the coke mixture adjusts to temperatures of, for example, 110 ° C. or higher, temperatures from 110 ° C. to 150 ° C. and preferably temperatures from 120 ° C. to 140 ° C. are appropriate.
The coke mixture that leaves the fluidized bed reactor generally has a volatile organic component content of less than 12% by weight and less than 1% by weight of water. The coke mixture is then fed to a calcining device, the calcination being carried out at temperatures of, for example, 1000 ° C. to 1500 ° C., expediently 1250 ° C. to 1400 ° C. and in particular 1350 ° C.
After the now calcined coke has left the calciner, a partial flow of the calcined coke is in a hot, uncooled state, i.e. at e.g. 1000 ° C. to 1500 ° C., expediently at 1250 ° C. to 1400 ° C. and preferably at 1350 ° C., are fed to the reactor, while the rest of the calcined coke is fed into a cooling device known per se and cooled. The amount of calcined coke returned to the reactor in the partial flow is calculated from the amount of green coke fed to the reactor and from the weight ratios given above.
The cooled calcined coke is largely free of volatile organic components and water and has a bulk density for anode production, which leads to optimal anodes.
With the method according to the present invention it is possible to gently calcine coke with optimal use of energy and to produce a calcine with minimal residual amounts of water and volatile organic components. Part of the residual energy in the hot calcined coke can be used to gently drive off the majority of the water and to reduce the average volatile coke in the reactor. The coke mixture leaving the reactor, which is fed into the calciner, has a lower average volatile content. There is hardly any water to drive out and therefore the calcination can be carried out faster, i.e. the throughput of the calciner can be increased.
The volatile organic constituents that are produced in the calcining device can be burned, for example, and the heat generated in this way can be used to support the calcining process.
The residence times of the starting materials in the reactor are e.g. between 3 and 10 minutes, the dwell times in the calciner are e.g. between 40 and 100 minutes (dwell times of 5 minutes in the reactor and 60 minutes in the calciner are preferred).
The invention prevents the grain from being smashed by the explosive discharge of water from the green coke grains and the blowing up of the coke due to an excessive amount of volatile constituents, so that coke can also be processed for anode production, which would normally have been disregarded due to its composition .
The present invention also includes a device for carrying out the method according to the invention, comprising a calcining device 10 and a cooling device 11, a reactor 12, preferably a fluidized bed reactor, which has an inlet 13 for green coke and an inlet 14 for calcined material, being arranged in front of the calcining device 10 Coke from the calcining device 10, a removal and transfer device 15 for a partial flow of the calcined coke is arranged, which is connected to the reactor.
All percentages or parts are by weight unless otherwise stated.
example
The process is explained in more detail with the aid of a flow diagram, the numerical values entered being regarded as examples.
According to the present example, 4 t of volatile constituents and in particular water are expelled from 38 t of green coke in the fluidized bed and 7.8 t of volatile constituents and residual amounts of water are expelled in the calcining device. The volatile organic components expelled in the calciner can be burned and can support the calcination with their heat of combustion.
