Description
The invention relates to a concentrated liquid textile softener composition which has improved, that is to say easier pourability and water dispersibility and enables a number of further advantages, in particular with regard to transport, storage and flexibility of use, in that the choice of a particular desired degree of softness no longer depends on the capacity of the dispenser for textile softeners in automatic washing machines. Another important aspect relates to the possibility now offered to the consumer either to use a concentrated product as such or to use it in a suitable concentration after prior dilution.
Although it is known that concentrated fabric softening compositions can provide convenience and ease of use for the housewife, no technical solutions have so far been available to avoid known disadvantages, especially disadvantages with regard to pourability and water dispersibility, the usual products adhere which contain more than about 10 to 12% of the active material. Attempts have been made to solve these problems by using electrolytes, including calcium chloride, for example in concentrations up to 2000 ppm. However, such proposals have not led to a satisfactory solution to the problems, because the only way to achieve this is to incorporate a few percent more active substances into conventional liquid textile softeners. However, there is no solution in the prior art to prepare a commercially usable liquid rinse softener product containing active ingredient concentrations as contemplated by the present invention, or more generally greater than about 15%, with the physical properties and use disadvantages set forth above are to be avoided.
The main aim of the present invention is to provide concentrated fabric softening compositions which have pourability and water dispersibility properties which are essentially comparable to liquid softeners with customary active ingredient concentration ranges, that is to say from about 3 to about 10% by weight.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a liquid concentrated plasticizer composition, the physical aspects of which are reminiscent of conventional low activity plasticizers, and which has no phase instability or other disadvantages that may arise during prolonged storage.
The above and other objects of the present invention can now be achieved by combining certain textile-reactive components with certain textile-softening components and thereby producing concentrated, liquid textile-softening agents which offer a number of advantageous properties, in particular in use, and generally provide economic advantages.
The concentrated liquid plasticizer composition according to the invention is characterized by the features specified in claim 1.
Preferred embodiments of the composition have the features specified in claims 2 to 14.

Sorbitol, prepared by catalytic hydrogenation of glucose, can be dehydrated in a known manner to form a mixture of 1,4- and 1,5-sorbitan hydrides and small amounts of isosorbides (see U.S. Patent 2,322,821). This mixture of sorbitan hydrides is collectively referred to as sorbitan. The sorbitan mixture will also contain some free, uncyclized sorbitol.
Sorbitan esters useful in the invention can be prepared by esterification of the "sorbitan" mixture with a fatty acyl group in a conventional manner, for example by reaction with a fatty acid halide or fatty acid. The esterification reaction can occur with any of the available hydroxyl groups and various mono, di, etc. esters can be made. In fact, mixtures of mono-, di-, tri- etc. esters almost always result from such reactions. The esterified hydroxyl groups can be present in the sorbitan molecule either in the end position or in an internal (intermediate) position.
Die erfindungsgemässen Zusammensetzungen können fakultative Bestandteile enthalten, die dafür bekannt sind, The compositions according to the invention may contain optional components which are known for
Diese Zusätze werden, falls sie verwendet werden, normalerweise in ihren üblichen niederen Konzen-15 trationen zugesetzt (zum Beispiel von etwa 0,1 bis 5 Gew.-%). that they are suitable for use in textile softeners at conventional concentrations for their known function. 10 Such additives include emulsifiers, perfumes, protective substances, germicides, viscosity modifiers, coloring additives, dyes, fungicides, stabilizers, brighteners and opacifiers. If used, these additives are normally added in their usual low concentrations (for example from about 0.1 to 5% by weight).
The textile-substantive polyamine agent gives the stated advantages either in the fully neutralized or in the only partially protonated form. The compositions according to the invention normally have a pH of 20 below about 7.5, preferably in the range of 2.5 to 6.0.
The compositions can normally be prepared by mixing the ingredients together in water, heating to a temperature of about 60 ° C and stirring for 5 to 30 minutes. The ternary compositions containing a cationic and a nonionic softener component are preferably made by first melting the nonionic softener component, after which the fabric-stabilizing agent and the cationic softener component are dispersed in the melted nonionic softener component with stirring. The active mixture is then dispersed in the aqueous base, which if necessary contains a pH regulator.
Normally, the plasticizers in question are in liquid form at 60 ° C and therefore form real emulsions in an aqueous continuous phase. During cooling, the disperse phase can solidify in whole or in part, so that the final composition is in the form of a dispersion which is not a real liquid / liquid emulsion. The "o expression" dispersion "means liquid / liquid phase or solid / liquid phase dispersions and emulsions.
