The invention relates to an explosive containing crystals, in particular hexogen or octogen crystals, which are surrounded by a binder layer, aluminum powder being contained in the binder layer.
The invention further relates to a method for producing an explosive of this type.
A known explosive of this type has an elastomeric binder layer, which consists in particular of polyurethane and which also contains aluminum powder. The disadvantage of this known explosive is that it is only in a complex, complicated and sometimes. dangerous processes could be produced.
So far, this explosive was made dry.
Hexogen was mixed with a desmophen solution and aluminum with a desmodur solution. The two mixtures, i.e. Hexogen with desmophen on the one hand and aluminum with Desmodur on the other hand were then mixed, granulated and dried. An explosive was created, which is called hexal.
The object which is to be achieved with the present invention is to create a new explosive which can be produced using a much simpler method.
The explosive according to the invention is characterized in that the binder layer consists of a thermoplastic material, in particular of polyvinyl acetate or polyacrylate or polyvinyl chloride.
The process according to the invention for producing the explosive is characterized by the following process steps: a) Slurrying explosive crystals, e.g. Octogen or hexogen in water, b) admixing the binder in the form of an aqueous dispersion, stirring intensively for two hours at a temperature of 50 ° C. until the binder coagulates, c) cooling the mixture and adding aluminum, d) after filtering , Drying and reslurrying in water. Adding a solvent to swell the binder layer and agglomerate the explosive crystals.
Exemplary embodiments of the explosive according to the invention and of the method according to the invention for its production are described in detail below.
The explosive according to the invention contains fine-grained hexogen (cyclotrimethylene trinitramine) or octogen (cyclotetramethylene tetranitramine) as well as aluminum and a thermoplastic binder made of polyvinyl acetate or polyacrylate or polyvinyl chloride or copolymers of these substances.
The process according to the invention consists of the following process steps:
1. 0.5 liters of water are poured into a heatable vessel and heated to 50 "C.
2. 66 g of finely crystalline hexogen with an average grain size of less than 200 pm are poured into the heated water.
3. 8.0 g of binder under the brand name Mowilith DO 5 are added in the form of an aqueous dispersion which contains 50 percent by mass of solids.
4. Intensive management takes place over two hours. The binder coagulates and envelops the explosive crystals.
5. After cooling to a temperature of about 20 ° C., 30 g of aluminum in the form of a fine powder are added to the mixture and the mixture is stirred for another 3-5 minutes, the aluminum particles being deposited on the surface of the explosive crystals coated with binder.
6. The slurry is filtered using a nutsche, filter press or cloth filter.
7. The moist mass is then dried in a vacuum at 60 "-70" C for 24 hours, as a result of which a plastic film forms on the explosive crystals.
8. The dried product is slurried again in a stirred tank with water. A solvent mixture of butanol and toluene is added to the aqueous phase.
The binder swells through the solvent and spherical agglomerates are formed by suspension agglomeration due to the vortex flow occurring in the stirred tank. The size of the agglomerates depends on the type of stirrer and its speed, on the shape of the stirred tank, on the temperature of the slurry and on the amount of solvent. The solvent is said to be poorly water-soluble and a poor solvent for the explosive and the binder.
9. The agglomerates are separated in the usual way by filtration.
10. Finally, the moist mass is dried at 60 "-70" C in a vacuum. The end product is homogeneous and easy to press.
To clarify the invention, a known explosive is compared with the explosive according to the invention.
Hexal P 30 contains (known) 66% by mass of hexogen crystals 30% by mass of aluminum and 4% by mass of polyurethane binder Hexal V 30 contains (new)
66% by mass of hexogen crystals 30% by mass of aluminum and 4% by mass of polyvinyl acetate binder
The new explosive Hexal V 30 differs only in the binder. Instead of an elastomeric binder, a thermoplastic binder was used.
However, the use of a thermoplastic binder enables the manufacturing process to be simplified considerably. In order to make this clear as well, the known manufacturing process for an explosive with an elastomeric binder will also be briefly described.
1. Dry the water-moist hexogen.
2. Dry hexogen is mixed with a xylotic solution of Desmophen 1200 and 1700 and dried.
Desmophen: polyhydroxyl compounds from Bayer, Leverkusen / FRG.
3. Aluminum powder is mixed with a xylene solution of Desmodur L 75 and dried.
Desmodur: polyisocyanate compounds from Bayer, Leverkusen / FRG.
4. The hexogen-desmophen mixture is mixed with the aluminum-desmodur mixture.
5. The product is pressed through a sieve and granulated.
6. The product is dried at 50 -60 C in a vacuum.
Under these conditions, Desmophen and Desmodur react to form an elastomeric polyurethane binder.
A comparison of the two methods shows:
1. Granulation with a sieve is avoided.
2. Less intermediate drying is required.
3. The new method is safer because the auxiliary operations take place in the aqueous phase.
4. The time and effort is less.
Furthermore, it was found that the product manufactured with the new process is more homogeneous and easier to compress.
