Description
The invention relates to a device according to the preamble of claim 1.
A two-dimensional perforated matrix with strictly observed limits of the perforation spacing uniformity between both rows and columns of the matrix is often used to perforate sheet-like material. An example of use for which there is ongoing interest is for perforating cigarette filter tip paper, in which the perforated matrix uniformity enables the consistency of the cigarette thinning properties. In various known mechanical perforation and arc perforation methods, the row spacing is made precise by providing a separate perforating device for each row. The uniformity in the spacing of the perforations made in each row and thus an exact column spacing is achieved by synchronizing the operation of each perforating device. Since the perforating devices, e.g. Pin 45 or electrode pairs are physically limited in size, these methods can easily be adapted to a very close distance between adjacent rows of the die.
The prior art also includes perforating processes using laser devices, which deliver pulsed or continuous light energy in row-column perforation. In these processes, however, the use of a single laser, which serves both for row and column perforation, was generally preferred for economic reasons and for reasons of physical size. The known single laser methods of achieving uniform spacing have required splitting the laser beam into multiple beams, one for each row, and focusing light onto a sheet material by using a separate lens for each row . The spacing of the perforations by precise boundaries within each row was sought by using a movable reflector element in each of the number of beam paths. The complexity affects the 65 precision movement z. B. by vibrations or rotations of such a reflector element in and out of its reference plane to evenly arrange holes in rows, and the prior art is therefore limited.

The main object of the invention is to develop an improved device for generating pulsed light beams from a continuous light beam for perforating sheet-like material.
It is also an object of the invention to enable a rapid perforation of cigarette filter tip paper by laser.
According to the invention, this is achieved by the characterizing features of patent claim 1.
In the device, light pulses emanating from each pair of participating reflecting devices are received through a common focusing lens, with a prism or similar light deflecting element arranged between the one of the mentioned devices and the common focusing lens, around adjacent rows of equidistant from each other To obtain perforations in a web or in a similar perforable element.
An exemplary embodiment of the invention is explained in more detail below with reference to the accompanying drawings, which show:

In the device according to FIG. 1, a web 10 of sheet-like material is collected by a take-up drum 12 after horizontal conveyance from a discharge drum, not shown. The take-up drum 12 is driven to rotate by a drive unit 14, the drum speed being determined by a control signal which is supplied via a line 16 and is emitted by a potentiometer 18 or a similar adjustable organ. Another control signal, which is derived via a line 20 from a potentiometer 22, controls the drive unit 24 of the light reflector arrangement 26, which has a shaft 28 which is rotated by the drive unit 24, and light-reflecting disks 30 and 32 which act on the Shaft 28 are non-rotatably wedged.
A laser 34 produces a continuous output beam 36 which is focused by lens 38 to a location on disks 30 and 32. The light beams reflected by the disks are guided to the material web 10 by a common focusing element, which is shown as a lens 40.
Bei der beispielsweisen Darstellung, bei welcher zwei Scheiben verwendet werden und zum wechselweisen Auftreffen des Strahls 36 (Fig. 1) bestimmt sind, weisen die Scheiben lichtdurchlässige, in gleichen Abständen voneinander befindliche Umfangsteile 48, 50 auf, Fig. 2 shows side by side in a diagrammatic representation the disks 30 and 32 when the latter is seen to the right of the disk in Fig. I. The disks are keyed onto the shaft 28 in such a position that the lines 42 and 44 are in a common plane with the shaft axis 46. In the exemplary illustration, in which two panes are used and are intended for the alternating impingement of the beam 36 (FIG. 1), the panes have translucent peripheral parts 48, 50 which are located at equal distances from one another,
45 such facets are usually used, each facet extending over four degrees of arc (angles 56 and 58) and each permeable part also extending over four degrees (angles 60 and 62). When the transmissive portion 48a is in alignment with the line 42 with its leading edge and the transmissive portion 50a is spaced from the line 44 by the facet angle 58, the disks are properly aligned for alternate reflection of the laser beam, with the beam passing through the transmissive portion 48a passes to be reflected by the facet in the clockwise direction of the transmissive portion 50a. The translucent parts are usually openings in the panes of a size sufficient for the laser beam to pass freely. Although the disk 32 could be made with no translucent parts since it is the last disk for the laser, the described embodiment alleviates the undesired, disruptive reflection of the laser output beam by the disk 32 during the impingement of the laser beam on the facets of the disk 30, i.e. the laser output beam crossing over the disk 30 simply passes through the openings of the disk 32. In this regard, such beam crossing may be desirable in applications where different spacing lengths are required in adjacent rows and the beam usage is not strictly alternating as in the device explained.
As can be seen in FIG. 3, each impingement of the beam 36 on a facet of the disk 30 results in the propagation of a modified version of the laser output beam, which modified beam is shown at 64 and has a central axis 64a that is directed at the lens 40 at an angle 41 , which is determined by the chosen orientation of the disk 30, occurs. The beam 64 has outer beams 64b and 64c which diverge in opposite directions from the beam center axis 64a. When the beam 36 converges and then diverges between the disks 30 and 32, the beam is then convergent to the disk 30 and the modified beam 64 is initially convergent and then divergent.
The lens 40 also has the facets of the disk 32 in its field of view through the prism 33 and therefore collects further modified versions of the laser output beam 36 each time the beam 36 strikes a facet of the disk 32.
Such a further modified beam 66, as it originates from the pane 32, has a central axis 66a and diverged outer beams 66b and 66c.
In the owner's German patent application entitled "Method and device for perforating sheet material by laser", P 2 932 421.8, all the reflecting panes, as counterparts to the aforementioned panes 30 and 32, have their reflecting facets with an identical position with respect to them Axis of rotation arranged. Rays are therefore the counterpart to the mentioned rays 64 and 66 which emanate from such counterpart disks, each including an axis of symmetry, which is parallel to the optical axis (axis 40a) of the common focusing element. Due to the optical considerations which are explained in the mentioned patent application, such counterpart beams of the same are treated directly by such a common focusing element without any further optics in between.
In contrast to the pane arrangement and the practice according to the mentioned patent application, the device used here for generating pulsed light beams requires different positions for the facets of the different

3, the surface 30a of the disk 30 is completely flat over the diameter of the disk. The surface 32a of the disk 32 is chamfered on the disk periphery. Therefore, the facets of the disk 30 are each of an identical posture with respect to the axis of rotation of the disk and the facets of the disk 32 are each of a second identical posture, which is different from the first posture with respect to the mentioned axis of rotation.
Beam 64 is directly collected by lens 40 and focused to location 68. The beam 66 is incident on the prism 33 and, after being deflected by it, is focused to the point 70, which two points lie outside the focal plane FP40 of the lens 40. In operation, the beam 66 impinges on the prism 33 and modifies the incidence and angle of incidence of the beam on the lens 40, thereby effectively displacing the beam incidence to the right (as seen in Figure 3) that is obtained when the Beam 66 is fed directly to the lens so that the location of location 70 is controlled. To variably control the position of the point 70, the prism is glued at 33a against a ring 35 which is mounted for rotation about the ring axis. The positions 68 and 70 can therefore be arranged such that they are in a juxtaposition with a plane through which the web 10 is conveyed in order to thereby perforate it.
The beam axis 36a and the shaft 28 are arranged at a common acute angle to the plane of FIG. 3, and the lens 40 and the prism 33 are moved by such an angle from the plane of FIG. 3 in registration with the disks 30 and 32. Operation of the device then results in a first series of perforations created by modified beam 64 at locations 68 and a second series of perforations spaced therefrom and created by modified beam 66 at locations 70. This operation becomes can be better understood by a more detailed explanation of an embodiment with an extended device, which is described in connection with FIGS. 4-7.
Der modifizierte Strahl 84 hat eine Mittelachse 84a und äussere divergierende Strahlen 84b und 84c. 4, four reflective disks 30 ', 32', 72 and 74 are arranged on the shaft 28 by a spacer 76 spaced apart. An additional prism is shown at 78 and another focusing element for modified rays is shown as lens 80. Modified rays 82 and 84 are propagated through the facets of discs 72 and 74. The modified beam 82 has a central axis 82a and outer diverging beams 82b and 82c. The modified beam 84 has a central axis 84a and outer diverging beams 84b and 84c.
The discs 72 and 74 are arranged with their reflective facets in positions relative to the axis of rotation corresponding to the case of the aforementioned discs 30 and 32. The lens 80 is located closer to the path 10 than the lens 40, which is due to the increased degree of divergence of the beam 36 when confronted with the discs 72 and 74. The position of the lens 80 and prism 78 are adjusted so that the focal locations 86 and 88 of the rays 82 and 84 are arranged closely adjacent the path 10 and substantially juxtaposed with the locations 68 and 70, as indicated. The distance Dt exists between the positions 68 and 70 and is based on the choice of the facet positions of the disks 30 and 32 and the optics (lens 40 and prism 33) for this. The distance D2 between the points 70 and 86 is determined by the length of the spacer 76. The distance D3 exists between the positions 86 and 88 and is based on the choice of the facet positions of the disks 72 and 74 and the optics (lens 80 and prism 78) for this.
5, the plane of FIG. 4 is perpendicular to the web 10 and coincides with the web edge 10a, while the laser output beam axis 36a forms an acute angle Z with it. The axis of the shaft 28 is in a common plane with the beam axis 36a perpendicular to the path 10. By setting the system parameters as described below, the four-row column matrix shown can be obtained, namely with column distances D4 and D5 between the upper and lower adjacent pairs of rows and distances Si-Sa between the rows.
Fig. 6 zeigt die Gestaltungen der Scheiben 30', 32', 72 und 74. 6 shows the designs of the disks 30 ', 32', 72 and 74. If all disks are wedged according to wedge lines 90, 92, 94 and 96 in a common plane and 45 facets per disk as in the system according to FIG. 1- 3 are assumed, the facets of all disks each extend over two degrees of arc and the openings thereof each extend over six degrees of arc. The facet 98 of the disk 32 'coincides with the wedge line 92 with its clockwise leading edge. The facets 100, 102 and 104 of the disks 30 ', 72 and 74 are located with their clockwise leading edges at a distance from the wedge lines 90, 94 and 96 by two, six and four angular degrees 106, 108 and 110; in this configuration, with a clockwise rotation of the shaft 28, there is a successive propagation of modified rays 66, 64, 84 and 82 (FIG. 4). Such a trigger sequence was chosen for ease of explanation because it causes successive perforations in rows 112, 114, 116 and 118 in FIG. 5. If required, the trigger sequence can be changed compared to the appropriate sequence. As mentioned for the two-pane embodiment described above, the last pane can be arranged without translucent parts, but those are preferred in order to alleviate disturbing light energy reflections from this last pane. The laser beam is focused on its divergence origin 360 (FIG. 4) in such a way that the beam cross section leaves the openings of the penultimate pane (pane 72) free, thereby ensuring that the full beam can strike each pane.
7 shows four perforations 120, 122, 124 and 126 drawn with solid lines, which were produced in chronological order. The time interval between each successive perforation can be easily calculated since the propagation speed of modified rays is determined solely by the reflector arrangement parameters, i.e. four turns 45 or 180 modified rays are propagated with one revolution of the shaft 28 in the given embodiment. This time interval (t) between successively made perforations, i.e. between perforations 120 and 122 is therefore 1/180 R, where R is the number of revolutions of shaft 26 per unit of time.
The distance between the perforations 120 and 122 is determined by the dimension (FIG. 7) Dx cos Z plus D6. Dt is the distance in the plane of FIG. 4 between the perforations 120 and 122 in the case of a stationary web 10. The transmission image separation (cast image separation) of Dt is larger in FIG. 7 in relation to the angle Z and is the dimension Dj cos Z. D6 represents the distance traveled by web 10 during the inter-perforation time period (t) and is simply the web speed (the distance traveled per unit time) multiplied by t, derived as above. Since the perforations in row 112 are all made in the same location {68-4) with respect to lens 40 and no transfer image spacing

(cast image spacing), they can all be spaced apart by a distance (D4), which is shown as a fraction of the spatial dimension Di cos Z + D6 and a multiple of D6 x the number of disks.
In the example in FIG. 7, with the rightward movement of the web 10, the perforations 128 and 130 in the row 112 would be made spatially beforehand and the perforation 132 in the row 112 would be spatially coincident with the perforation 122 in the row 114, but temporally - later than the perforation 122 in the row 114. Such phenomena are in combined effects of the transmission image separation as between successive perforations and the angle Z.
A number N can be named that indicates the number of perforations in row 112 that were made spatially before (or coincident with) and later than the perforation of row 114 that was made after an initial row 112 perforation , and the following relationship can be established for a four-wheel arrangement:
ND4 = Dj cos Z+D6 (1) ND4 = Dj cos Z + D6 (1)
D„cosZ+D6 N = (2) D "cosZ + D6 N = (2)
D4 D4
oder d j cos Z = d4n-d6 (3) or d j cos Z = d4n-d6 (3)
oder d4 n-d6 Di = ~~ (4) or d4 n-d6 Di = ~~ (4)
cosZ cosZ
In einem solchen Fall: In the given example, n is three and d4 is four times d6. In such a case:
U d6 U d6
D, = ^ (5) D, = ^ (5)
cosZ cosZ
In expression (4) with preselected constants D1; Z and N can be rated D4 and D6 as mutually variable to influence the same pattern. Since D4 is proportional to t and since Da is determined by the web speed, a number of respective values can be set for the drive unit 24 (speed of the reflector arrangement, signal on line 20 in FIG. 1) and the drive unit 14 (web feed speed, line) 16 in FIG. 1), which results in the design according to FIG. 7 for the rows 112 and 114. A common control input can set the contact arm positions of the potentiometers 18 and 22.
In the example described above, the number N is an integer and is chosen with three. Each integer can be chosen so that a column perforation cover is obtained. Lower values of N, i.e. 5 fewer perforations in row 112 between successive (row 112-row 114) perforations result in fewer perforations per spacing unit in web 10. Conversely, higher values of N result in an increased perforation density in web.
If an integer is not chosen for N, the above column coverage will not be obtained. For example, if N is chosen with three and a half, the perforation density between rows 112 i5 and 114 decreases from the N for three situations and the perforations in rows 112 and 114 are mutually evenly offset, for example 180 ° out of phase, as is the case with this the case with all N values with a fraction of Vi.
20 In the aforementioned situation with N equal to three, the column alignment also takes place in rows 116 and 118 and the column alignment, for example all rows 112 to 118, can be achieved by D2 cos Z + D6 being an integer multiple of D6 x the number 25 of the disks are made and D3 is equal to Dj. On the other hand, matrices that are not uniform are obtained by a different choice of parameters, but if both the row spacing uniformity and the uniformity of the perforation spacing between the rows match. 30 The distance parameters can also be modified to compensate for optical aberrations, and thus the desired perforation matrices can be obtained.
In the embodiment shown in the drawings, the device for generating a pulsed beam requires a plurality of disks or the like, which are arranged adjacent to one another, the different facets allowing the generation of non-interfering pulsed beams. In the aforementioned patent application 40, such disks are spaced apart from one another along the common axis of rotation. As can be seen, the device hereof can therefore be varied in various ways for generating pulsed beams. While the above-described device and the device according to 45 of the aforementioned patent application use the collective focusing of the rays emanating from the multiple disks, the separate treatment of such rays can be carried out. Of course, beams greater than two can be collected by a common focusing element, resulting in a corresponding number of rows of perforations greater than the two rows that are obtained for each lens in the practice shown. The invention is of course not limited to the particular devices shown, but may experience various modifications within its scope.
