Cationic oxazine dyes of the formula in which R1, R2, R3 and R4 independently of one another denote methyl or ethyl are preferred.
A cationic oxazine dye which is particularly valuable owing to its good overall fastness properties is the dye of the formula Ia
EMI2.2
The substituents R1, R2, R3 and R4 in the formula I, as alkyl having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, represent the methyl, ethyl, n propyl, isopropyl, n, iso, sec, and tert-butyl group .
If R1 and R2 form a heterocyclic ring together with the nitrogen atom, it is in particular a five- or six-membered N-heterocyclic ring which can contain further heteroatoms such as nitrogen, oxygen and sulfur. These include: pyrrolidine, morpholine and piperidine.
The dyes of the formulas can be prepared in such a way that a compound of formula II

EMI2.4
in which R4 has the meaning given, in the presence of an acid HX, in which X is an anion and, if appropriate, in the presence of a condensing agent, for example zinc chloride.
The oxazine dyes of the formulas can also be prepared in such a way that a compound of the formula
EMI2.5
wherein R1, R2 and R3 have the meaning given above and Y is an optionally substituted lower alkyl group, such as.
As methyl, ethyl or hydroxyethyl, nitrosated and the nitroso compound formed with an aminophenol of the formula V.

As compounds of formula V come z. B. 3-amino-4-methylphenol, 3-amino-4-ethylphenol or 3-amino-4-butylphenol.
The respective nitroso compounds are condensed
at temperatures between 20 and 1200 ° C., preferably between 50 and 100 ° C. in an acidic medium. The halides, preferably the hydrochlorides of the p nitroso compounds are expediently used and the condensation is carried out in the presence of an acid HX, for example in the presence of hydrochloric acid, formic acid or Acetic acid, by.
Xe in the meaning of an anion represents both organic and inorganic ions, e.g. B. halogen, such as chloride, bromide or iodide, also sulfate, methosulfate, aminosulfonate, perchlorate, carbonate, bicarbonate, phosphate, phosphoromolybdate, phosphorus tungstate, 4-chlorobenzenesulfonate, naphthalenesulfonate, oxalate, , Maleate, formate, acetate, propionate, lactate, succinate, chloroacetate, tartrate, methanesulfonate, benzoate and rhodanide ions, or complex anions such as that of chlorinated zinc double salts or tetrafluoroborate.
The new cationic oxazine dyes of the formulas are used for dyeing and with the addition of binders and solvents for printing on materials which can be dyed with cationic dyes, in particular textile materials which, for. B. advantageously consist of homo- or copolymers of acrylonitrile, or synthetic polyamides or polyesters, which are modified by acidic groups, and their mixtures with polyester, polyamide, wool and cellulose-containing material, especially cotton. Furthermore, the new cationic oxazine dyes are also used for dyeing wet cables, plastics, leather and paper. The new cationic oxazine dyestuffs of the formula I according to the invention are pure, lightfast blue dyestuffs which do not fluoresce and have excellent migration properties, in particular on polyacrylonitrile fibers. The shades available on these fibers are strong in color and have good general fastness properties, such as fastness to light, decaturation, washing and perspiration.
The dye of the formula Ia is more lightfast and does not fluoresce in comparison to the corresponding oxazine dye described in German patent 74690, in which R3 is hydrogen instead of methyl; has a much better migration capacity than the corresponding oxazine dye described in German Offenlegungsschrift 2631166, which has the = NHC2H5 group instead of the = NH2; has a much purer shade with a better evening color (artificial light envelope) than the corresponding oxazine dye known from German patent specification 62367, in which R4 is hydrogen instead of methyl and is purer and draws and migrates better in comparison with the corresponding oxazine dye known from German patent application 2518587, in which R3 is hydrogen instead of methyl and R4 is methoxy instead of methyl.
In the following examples, parts (T) mean parts by weight, the percentages by weight and the temperatures are given in degrees Celsius.
example 1
15.1 parts of 3-dimethylamino-4-methylphenol are dissolved in 100 parts by volume of ethanol. 29 parts of 30% hydrochloric acid are added, the mixture is cooled to about 5 and 13.8 parts of an aqueous 50% sodium nitrite solution are added dropwise with stirring. A yellow-brown nitrosohydrochloride suspension is obtained, which is further stirred at 5-10 for 1 h. The mixture is then heated to 45-50 and a solution consisting of 15.0 parts of 2-amino-4-dimethylaminotoluene in 25 parts by volume of ethanol is added. The reaction temperature is increased further to 555 ", with the rapid formation of a blue oxazine dye.
The mixture is stirred at the latter temperature for 2 h, then cooled to 0-5 and the precipitated dye is filtered off with suction. The dye of the formula, washed free of mother liquor with a total of 100 parts by volume of ethanol
