Description
The invention relates to a fungicidal agent which contains new l- (2-arylethyl) -lH-l, 2,4-triazoles as active ingredient. The new compounds also have a plant growth-regulating effect. The invention also relates to a method for producing the fungicidal composition.
Fungicidal and plant growth-regulating imidazole and triazole derivatives are already known; see. e.g. U.S. Patent Nos. 3,717,655, 3,658,813, 3,927,017, 3,821,394.3,897,438 and 3,647,814.
The new compounds differ from these known triazole derivatives by the nature of the substituted ethyl side chain in the 1-position of the triazole nucleus, while the main difference to the imidazole derivatives is the replacement of the imidazole group of the 1H-1,2,4-triazole group.
The fungicidal agent is characterized in that it is at least one new 1H-1,2,4-tri-azole derivative of the formula as active component

In the reaction between (II) and (III), 35 is first converted into an alkali metal salt, preferably the sodium salt, preferably by reaction with a suitable strong metal base, such as sodium hydride, sodium methylate or sodium amide, and the metal salt is then heated , usually with stirring, in a polar organic solvent with (III). Suitable solvents are e.g. Amides such as N, N-dimethylformamide and N, N-dimethylacetamide, and nitriles such as acetonitrile and benzonitrile.
However, it is also possible to react (II) and (III) directly with one another without prior salt formation, the reaction preferably being carried out in one of the polar organic solvents mentioned above in the presence of a suitable base in order to capture the acid released during the reaction. Suitable bases are. e.g. see inorganic bases such as sodium and potassium carbonate or hydrogen bicarbonate, and organic bases such as N, N-diethyl-ethamine and pyridine. Slightly elevated temperatures are favorable to accelerate the reaction, and preferably the reaction is carried out at the reflux temperature of the reaction mixture.

The starting alcohols of formula (V), some of which are known compounds, can be prepared by known methods, e.g. in the following manner: A suitable substituted arylacetonitrile of formula (VI) is alkylated with a suitable reactive ester: R2X (VII). The alkylation is preferably carried out by first bringing the arylacetonitrile into contact with a suitable strong base, such as sodium hydride, and then adding the reactive ester to the reaction mixture. Suitable solvents for this reaction are e.g. Amides such as N, N-dimethylformamide, N, N-dimethylacetamide and hexamethylphosphoric triamide, other polar solvents such as dimethyl sulfoxide, or mixtures of these solvents with e.g. aromatic hydrocarbons such as benzene.
The substituted aryl acetonitriles (VIII) formed in this step can then be converted into an alkyl ester (IX) of the corresponding carboxylic acid. This conversion of the nitrile to the ester can be done in one step, e.g. B. by heating the nitrile in a suitable aluminum

For example, methanesulfonates and 4-methylbenzenesulfonates are obtained by treating the alcohol with methanesulfonyl chloride and 4-methylbenzenesulfonyl chloride, respectively, in the presence of a suitable acid acceptor such as pyridine. Halides can be prepared by treating the alcohol with a suitable halogenating agent such as phosphoropentyl chloride or phosphorus tribromide.

However, the nitrii can also first be hydrolyzed in a conventional manner to give the corresponding arylacetic acid, e.g. with sodium hydroxide in 1,2-ethanediol, whereupon the acid is usually converted into the desired ester by known methods.
The esters (IX) can also be prepared by customary alkylation of a suitable alkyl arylacetate (X) with R2X.
The alcohols (V) can finally be obtained by reducing 30 (IX) with a suitable reducing agent, such as lithium aluminum hydride, lithium borohydride or sodium borohydride, in the presence of a lithium salt, preferably a halide, such as lithium iodide or lithium chloride.

The enantiomers can be prepared by customary separation of the racemic products.
The compounds of formula (I) and their acid addition salts are effective fungicides. They are particularly useful as agricultural fungicides, being effective against a variety of fungi, e.g. the causers of meltaus in various plant species, such as Erysiphe graminis, Erysiphe polygoni, Erysiphe cichora-cearum, Erysiphe polyphaga, Podosphaera leucotrichia, Sphaerotheca pannosa, Sphaerotheca mors-uvae and Un-cinulle necatorii and other phytopathogenic fungal diseases, as well as other phytopathogenic diseases .
The fungicidal properties of the new compounds are explained in more detail by the test results below.
A. Prophylaktische Wirkung gegen Erysiphe cichoracearum bei der Blattbehandlung von Gurkenpflanzen A. Prophylactic action against Erysiphe cichoracearum in the leaf treatment of cucumber plants
Die in den 55 Tabellen I und II genannten Ergebnisse beruhen auf folgendem Bewertungssystem: Cucumber plants about 10 days old are sprayed with 45 aqueous solutions containing 100, 10 or 1 ppm of the test compounds, while a control group remains untreated. After the plants have dried, they are artificially infected with spores from Erysiphe cichoracearum by lightly rubbing the plants with a heavily infected 50 leaves. On the 15th day after the artificial infection, the extent of the fungal attack is determined on the basis of the percentage of the leaf surface attacked by the fungus. Three plants are used per experiment and the average for these three plants is calculated. The results given in 55 Tables I and II are based on the following rating system:

In addition to the fungicidal activity, the compounds of the formula (I) also have valuable properties which regulate plant growth. Depending on various factors, e.g. growth stimulation or growth inhibition can be observed in the plant species examined and the dose of active ingredient applied.
The agents according to the invention contain the new tri-azoles of the formula (I) or their acid addition salts usually in a solvent or a solid, semi-solid or liquid diluent or carrier. The new compounds can in suitable solvents or diluents in the form of emulsions, suspensions, dispersions or ointments, on suitable solid or semi-solid carriers, in natural or synthetic soaps, detergents or dispersion media, optionally together with other compounds with arachnicidal, insecticidal, ovicidal, fungicidal and / or bactericidal activity or together with inactive additives.
20 Solid carriers suitable for the production of powder preparations are e.g. various inert, porous and powdered, inorganic or organic distribution agents, such as tricalcium phosphate, calcium carbonate in the form of treated lime or ground limestone, kaolin, sealing earth, bentonite, talc, silica and boric acid, cork powder, sawdust and other fine powder materials from of vegetable origin.
The active ingredient is usually mixed with these carriers, e.g. milled with it. The inert carrier can also be soaked with a solution of the active ingredient in a volatile solvent, whereupon the solvent is removed by heating or by filtration under reduced pressure. By adding wetting and / or dispersing agents, the powder preparations can also be made wettable with water, so that suspensions are formed.
The inert solvents used for the production of liquid preparations are preferably flame-retardant, odorless and as non-toxic as possible to the warm-blooded animals and plants in the respective environment. Solvents of this type include high-boiling oils of e.g. of vegetable origin and low-boiling solvents with a flash point of at least 30 ° C., such as polyethylene glycol, isopropanol, dimethyl sulfoxide, hydrogenated naphthalenes and alkylated naphthalenes. Mixtures of these solvents can also be used. The solutions are usually prepared in the usual way, if appropriate using solubilizers. Other liquid preparations that can be used are emulsions or so suspensions of the active ingredient in water or a suitable inert solvent, and concentrates for producing such emulsions, which can be adjusted directly to the desired concentration. For this purpose, the active ingredient can e.g. be mixed with a dispersing or emulsifying agent. The active ingredient can also be dissolved or dispersed in a suitable inert solvent and, at the same time or subsequently, mixed with a dispersing or emulsifying agent.
The active ingredient can also be incorporated into a semi-solid, creamy, pa-6o-soluble or wax-like carrier, if appropriate with the aid of a solution promoter and / or emulsifiers. Vaseline and other cream bases are examples of such semi-solid carriers.
In addition, the active ingredient can be applied in the form of aerosols. For this purpose, the active ingredient is optionally used as carrier liquids, e.g. Difluorodichloromethane boiling at atmospheric pressure below room temperature, or in

In this way pressurized solutions are obtained which form aerosols when sprayed and are therefore particularly suitable for combating fungi, e.g. B. in closed rooms and camps, as well as for the treatment and protection of vegetation against fungal attack.
The agents according to the invention can be used in the usual way. The fungi or the material to be treated or protected against fungal attack can, for. B. by dusting, sprinkling, spraying, brushing, dipping, brushing, watering or in any other suitable manner.
When using the new compounds in combination with suitable carriers, e.g. In solution, suspension, as dusts, powder preparations, ointments, emulsions or in similar forms, high activity is observed over a wide range of dilutions. For example, concentrations of the active ingredient in the range from 0.1 to 10 percent by weight, based on the weight of the agent used, are suitable for the effective control of fungi. Of course, special circumstances can also require higher concentrations.
The examples illustrate the invention. All parts are by weight unless otherwise stated.

A stirred sodium methylate solution, which was previously prepared from 1.6 parts of sodium and 56 parts of methanol, is mixed with 4.8 parts of 1H-1,2,4-triazole. 40 parts of methanol are distilled off under normal pressure, whereupon 80 parts of 4-methyl-2-pentanone are added and a further 28 parts of the solvent are distilled off. 22 parts of 3- (4-chlorophenyl) -2- (2,4-dichlorophenyl) propyl methanesulfonate and 90 parts of N, N-dimethylformamide are then added, and the whole is stirred under reflux overnight.
Then the reaction mixture is allowed to cool to room temperature, poured into water and the product extracted twice with 2,2'-oxybispropane. The combined extracts are washed twice with water and then excess concentrated nitric acid is added. The resulting nitrate is filtered off and crystallized from 4-methyl-2-pentanone, 6.6 parts (27%) of l- [3- (4-chlorophenyl) -2- (2,4-dichlorophenyl) propyl] -lH -l, 2,4-triazole nitrate; F. 174.8 ° C can be obtained.
