The invention relates to a process for the preparation of disperse dyes with a 2,6-di-aminopyridine coupling component. It is already known that azo compounds with coupling components of this type which carry a cyan or unsubstituted carbamoyl group in the 3-position of the pyridine radical are valuable polyester dyes (cf. DOS 2 062 717, 2 222 873 and 2 404 854).
It has now been found that azo dyestuffs which are of interest in terms of application technology are also obtained if diazotized amines D-NH2 are coupled to pyridines which are otherwise substituted in the 3-position.
Die erfindungsgemäss herstellbaren sulfogruppenfreien Azo farbstoffe weisen die folgende Formel auf The sulfo group-free azo dyes which can be prepared according to the invention have the following formula

The new dyes obtainable therefrom or their mixtures with one another or with other dyes are very suitable for dyeing and printing structures made of synthetic hydrophobic materials, such as, for example, polyolefins, polyvinyl compounds, cellulose-2V2 acetate and in particular cellulose triacetate and polyester materials. They then supply yellow to red dyeings and prints with good fastness properties, in particular good fastness to light and sublimation, using the customary dyeing and printing processes. It should also be emphasized that the dyestuffs are easy to draw and build up when dyeing polyester fiber materials from an aqueous liquor in the exhaust process.
