Abstract

A cutting disc made from plastic for a rotary lawn mower comprises a central part (21) connected to the lower end of the drive shaft of the mower and a peripheral part having a lower surface (23) which is more or less planar. Radial cutting rods (33) are fastened to the disc. Each nylon rod comprises a head (35) and a rigid body (36) and ends in a flexible tip (37). The disc comprises a housing (31) supporting the body of each rod in a cantilever configuration, so that only its tip extends beyond the periphery of the disc in order to cut the grass when the disc rotates. When the rod strikes an obstacle, it bends, without being damaged, into a position in which it is curved back against a stop (41) of the disc. By virtue of the elasticity of the tip (37) and of its low mass, the risk of serious injury by the throwing-up of stones, or by direct contact is considerably reduced. <IMAGE>
