Abstract

A process for separating serotonin from coffee waxes, in which a solution of these waxes in a benzyl alcohol is subjected to an alkaline hydrolysis under an inert atmosphere using an aqueous solution of a strong base, and then serotonin is isolated from the reaction mixture which contains it. This product can be used especially as a medicament.
