Cinematographic projector The present invention relates to a cinematographic projector intended to project a film from one of the supply reels placed on the projector and intended to be moved selectively and successively into the position of use.
Known projectors of this type comprise several film-carrying elements each comprising a supply reel and a receiving reel, the film of each element being permanently attached at its two ends to the respective reels. When the film carrying member is moved to the projection position, the part of the film extending between the two spools is brought into the projector window and is engaged by a film advancement mechanism for feeding it through. the projection apparatus from the supply reel to the take-up reel.
Once the film is projected, it is rewound onto the supply reel, either before or after the film carrier member is moved to allow a subsequent member to come into the projection position. In some projectors of this type, the film-carrying element may include individually removable dual film reel magazines, which facilitate the individual exchange of films or the <U> of </U> changing the order in which films are exhibited.
The projector, object of the present invention, is tiné to avoid the bulk and the relatively high price inherent in these dual coil magazines.
This projector is characterized in that it comprises a pin supported at one end and provided with a head rotatably mounted at the other end, the pin being intended to extend through an axial opening of each supply reel, a coil advancing device for advancing together supply coils intermittently along the axis of the spindle to advance successive supply coils on the rotatably mounted head, an engagement device for rotatably coupling a coil with this head, and a device for driving the rotating head.
This projector allows a magazine or cartridge to be loaded by simply inserting the standard reel of film into the cartridge, for example a fifteen meter reel of 8mm film.
The appended drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the headlight according to the present invention.

Fig. 15 is an exploded perspective view of the rack advancement lever device shown in FIG. 14.
Fig. 16 is a diagram of the electrical circuit of the automatic control device of the projector.
The complete projector shown in fia. 1 and 2 com takes a rectangular box 11 supporting projection lenses <B> 12 </B> at its front end and provided with several control buttons 14 to 18 on its upper wall 13, the functions of which will be described later . In front of the control knobs, a pair of opposing cartridge rack support rails 19 and 21 extend upward from the top wall of the housing below and to the opposite side of the horizontal pin 22 supported on a mounting plate. vertical support 23 at one end thereof.
The keycap rack 24 is in the form of a bottomless box slidably supported between the guide rails by means of tabs 25 and 26 on the opposite side of the binding rail, which are received in corresponding guide slots 27 and 28 in the guide rails 19 and 21, respectively, when the rack is on the projector as shown in fig. 1. Along the side walls of the rack, several pairs of ribs 29, evenly spaced apart. extend inwardly, and delimit compartments accommodating individual film cartridges 31.
Each cartridge is placed in one of the compartments and is supported by its hinge 32 and its latch 33, so that several adjacent cartridges placed in the rack are evenly spaced in alignment, parallel to one another.
As shown in fig. 3, 4 and 5, each of the film cartridges comprises a lower case part 34 provided with an upper case part 35 fixed to the lower case by a hinge 32. By opening the upper case part which is detachably held in position closed by the latching member 33 which is in latching cooperation with a stop 33a on the upper part of the housing, the key can be loaded by simply inserting therein a conventional film reel 36, on which a film strip. film 37 is wound into a roll 38 with the inner end of the strip attached to the core of the reel by means of a clamp 39 in a notch 41 in the core of the reel.
When the reel has thus been inserted into the cartridge, oriented so that the reel is rotated clockwise as shown in fia. 3, When the film is unwound from it, the upper part of the case is closed to retain the spool in the cartridge and to protect it from accidental damage. As illustrated in fig. 4, the spool fits snugly into the cartridge with the film on it being prevented from resiliently unwinding beyond the edges of spool cheeks 42 by a pair of inner rails 43.
As shown at 44, in FIG. 3, the two parts receiving the cartridge are provided with semi-circular openings which form circular holes coaxially with a grooved cylindrical hole 45 extending through the hub of the spool placed in the cartridge. The bottom wall of the lower part of the housing is also provided with an elongated notch 46 shown in FIG. 5, which is intended to accommodate parts of the film extractor mechanism, as described below, this notch being wider than the film along the part of its length shown at 47 to allow for the wise passage of the film. film through it.
To ensure that the loaded cartridges are placed in the correct direction of rotation with respect to the apparatus, the cartridge rack must be installed in a determined manner dictated by the dissimilar shape of these tabs 25 and 26 and the mating notches. in which they are received, and each cartridge has a tab 48 received in one of the corresponding notches 49 placed only along one side of the cartridge rack, so that the cartridges can be installed in the rack only when they are oriented as shown in FIG. 1.
In order to prevent the cartridges from accidentally exiting the rake when the rack is removed from the apparatus, each of the notches 49 includes an elastic detent (not shown) engaged in a depression 50 along the edge of the tab 48 of the device. corresponding cartridge.
With the cartridge rack supported by the guide rails, the center openings in the cartridges and the center holes in the spools are aligned to receive pin 22 as the rack is moved along the guide rails to a support plate 23.
As can be seen in fig. 2, the upper wall 13 of the housing 11 is provided with an opening 50 between the support rails of the rack and below a rotating head portion 51 of the spindle. The cartridge which is placed in the projection position is placed directly over the opening 50 with the spindle head portion received in the center hole of the spool in this cartridge. This is accomplished by providing the rack with several evenly spaced tabs 52 (Fig. 1) associated respectively with the corresponding cartridge compartments and intended to be engaged by the rack advancement mechanism partially shown at 53 (Fig. 2).
The fia. 6 shows, in a somewhat simplified form, the arrangement of the main internal parts of the apparatus, comprising a projection unit 54 associated with a receiving coil 55, and a control assembly 56 which supports and actuates various elements (read device automatic film capture.
The projection block 54 is of the self-insertion type in which the film leader 37 only needs to be brought into the block between the guide members 57, after which it is engaged by an insertion mechanism shown. schematically by elements 58 and is thus automatically inserted through the projector window 59, aligned with the projection lamp 61, and guided into engagement with hooks 62 on the friction drive causing the take-up reel 55 to rotate. When the insertion operation is complete, the claw 63 is engaged with the film to advance it intermittently through the window during the projection cycle.
The projector is equipped with a forward and reverse gear, selected manually by means of the knob 14, and different speeds, determined by the adjustment of the knob 15.
In fig. 6, the film cartridge shown is shown in the projection position in which the film reel is directly over opening 50 and in vertical alignment with the film guide member 57 at the top of the projection unit. A control assembly 56 is mounted on the projection unit and comprises a film extraction mechanism comprising a movable line roll drive device 64 and a movable extractor device 65. These two devices are supported by the film. end wall adjacent to the control assembly 66 thereof, with the film roll accessible to the drive device 64 through the notch 46 in the cartridge by means of an opening 50 in the wall 13 .
Similarly, access is provided between the roller and the finger 67 of the positive device 65 by means of an opening 68 in the support rail 19 and the opening 69 in the adjacent wall of the cartridge rack (fie. I ).
Fig. 7 shows the control assembly 56 removed from the housing. This assembly comprises a frame 71 having mounted a spool spindle support plate 23, the film drive and extractor devices 64 and 65, and the rack advancement mechanism 53, the assembly comprising all these components can be assembled and then installed and removed from the housing 13 as a homogeneous block.
The drive device incorporated in the control assembly comprises a camshaft 72 parallel to a drive shaft 73, these two shafts being rotatably supported at their opposite ends by the end walls 74 and 66. Au beyond the end wall 74, the end of the camshaft rotatably supports an outer disc 76, an intermediate disc 77 and a toothed pinion 78. The outer disc 76 is connected by a belt. drive 79 to the pulley 81 of an electric motor 82, which rotates continuously during operation of the apparatus and which also supplies power to the projection unit 54.
The toothed pinion 78 meshes with a larger idler toothed wheel which is freely rotated on a journal shaft 84, and to which is attached another small pinion, not shown, meshing with a toothed wheel 85 fixed to the end of the shaft drive 73. Therefore, the continuous rotation of the shaft, in the key clockwise direction as shown in fig. 7, also causes the continuous rotation of the drive shaft 73 in the same direction but at a slower speed.
A single clutch 86 is mounted on the camshaft and is actuated by solenoid 87 to couple pinion 88 to the drive shaft during successive full rotations thereof as long as the solenoid remains energized. Pinion 88, in turn, meshes with toothed wheel 89 attached to camshaft 72, the gear ratio of the two gears being such due each revolution of pinion 88 drives the shaft; t a quarter cam key revolution.
Accordingly, as shown in fig. 7, energizing the solenoid causes the camshaft to rotate 90 @ -. If the solenoid is energized and then immediately is no longer energized, i.e. pulsed, it appears that only one rotational movement of 90 @, of the camshaft is thus effected. . A rotary switch mechanism is placed along the camshaft and has a stationary contact plate 91 in cooperation with an adjacent motor member 92 attached to the shaft. The switch mechanism comprises an element of the control device for the succession of electrical operations which is then described in detail.
The camshaft is fitted with several cams which actuate various mechanical elements of the device. One, 93, of these cams cooperates with a cam feeler slide 94. This cam feeler slide is articulated to the projection unit to open and close the projector window 59 and to move the claw 63 in the film path and out of it. this path as a function of the angular position of the camshaft. For the sake of clarity, the other cams placed along the camshaft have been omitted. 7, but are illustrated in the figures belonging to the particular mechanism with which each of the cams is associated.
Referring now to fi, -. 7-10, the horizontal spool pin 22 includes a tube 95 which extends through and is rigidly attached to the support plate 23. The inner hole 96 of the tube 95 rotatably supports the spindle shaft 97 placed therein. At the unsupported end of the tube, the shaft 97 is attached to the rotating spindle head 51 (fig. 8). The head is practically of the same external diameter due to the tube and comprises a latching member 98 placed in the notch 99 and pressed outwards by a spring 101.
Accordingly, when a cartridge is in the projection position, the spindle head is received in the center hole 45 of the corresponding spool, and is coupled to the spool by the engagement of the engagement member with. one of the axial rib notches 102 extending along the central spool hole. The spool in a cartridge positioned beyond the throwing position towards the backing plate 23 is freely supported by the stationary pin tube 95 extending through its center hole.
The film feed spool engaged by the spindle head is rotated in a rewind direction, either by a rigid or friction spindle drive device or can rotate freely independent of the drive device, according to the operation. particularly performed by the device during its operating cycle. These three modes of coil rotation are selectively established by means of the construction shown in Figs. 9 and 10, comprising a spindle clutch mechanism and a clutch actuator mechanism actuated by the camshaft 72.
The clutch mechanism comprises a pulley 103 rotatably supported adjacent to the support plate 23 on the end portion 104 of the stationary spindle tube 95, and retained thereon by a collar <B> 105. </ B > A belt 106, received in the pulley groove 107, is connected to the intermediate disc 77 whereby the pulley <B> 103 </B> continuously rotates clockwise, as shown in fig. 10.
An annular groove 108 around the inoyeti of the pulley receives an elastic clamp 109, one end of which moves away from the pulley and is bent inwardly towards the axis of the spindle as represented by 110, beyond the end of the spindle. pin <B> 111 </B> projecting axially from the pulley hub.
A tubular housing 112 extends through the hole in tube 95 and is rotatably coupled to the end of spindle shaft 97 by a pin 113 extending through an elongated notch <B> 114 </B> in housing and through the end of the spindle shaft received therein. The housing is pressed to the position shown in Fig. 9 by an internal compression spring 115 housed between the end of the spindle shaft and the closed end of the housing, but can be moved axially against. the influence of the spring without being driven by the spindle shaft.
When the gearbox is in the neutral clutch position shown in fig. 9 and 10, the lug 116 is beyond the path of circular movement of the two end parts 110 of the clamp and the pin <B> 111, </B> so that the spindle shaft and the film reel engaged by its head are able to rotate freely regardless of the continuous rotation of the pulley. If the housing is internally moved to the friction clutch position, in which the ear is placed as shown at 116a, the ear is engaged by the end <B> 110 </B> of the continuously rotating clamp. to rotate the spindle shaft and the engaged spool in the same direction, i.e. in the direction in which the film is wound on the spool.
When the ear is thus engaged with the clamp, only a limited torque can be transmitted from the pulley to the spindle shaft, as determined by the resilient friction engagement between the clamp and the neighboring groove surface 108. When the housing is moved further towards the spindle shaft to the rewind position, the ear moves to the position shown at 116b, lies it is engaged by the pin <B> 111, </B> thus coupling the pulley and the tree (the spindle.
To automatically adjust the housing to its proper position during different phases of the operating cycle of the apparatus, a displacement arm 117 is pivoted by a stud 118 to a bracket 119 extending from the end wall 74. Adjacent to the housing. at the closed end of the housing 112, the displacement arm forms a stopper plate 121 intended to come into contact with the housing to move it axially inward when the arm is rotated clockwise around its pivot point as shown in fig. 10.
Inside the support frame, the displacement arm extends over the camshaft 72 and supports an elastic wool 122 cam pad fixed to the arm by rivets 123. A coil spring 12- 1 is fixed at its lower end to a fixed peg and at its upper end to the blade 122.
This spring biases the arm clockwise around the stud <B> 118 </B> to keep the blade in contact with the clutch control cam <B> 126 </B> on the camshaft 72 by moving the housing 112 against the influence of the spring 115, but is of sufficient rigidity to produce any significant bending of the blade. [_a cam 126 comprises key peripheral surface areas of three different radii, each of these areas placing the stop plate at an angular position corresponding to one of the three modes of operation of the clutch mechanism. as shown in fig. 9 by 121, 121a and 121b.
During the projection phase of the film, the cam portion 126 of the larger diameter is in contact with the blade 122, thereby raising the blade to its highest position to release the pin from engagement with the pulley 103 so due to the film reel can rotate freely when the film is unwound from it. However, if it is desired to project the film backwards, this is done in the same phase of the operating cycle but requires the clutch to frictionally drive the supply reel in the rewind direction after the film has been released. been wound on the take-up reel.
Consequently, to override the neutral clutch setting established by cam 126 during this phase of operation, a lever 127 engages the end of displacement shaft <B> 117, </B> adjacent to the blade. and extends through an opening 128 in the frame which provides a fulcrum for the lever. Beyond the frame, the cpposée end of the lever is connected to a joint shown at 129 in the figure. 6, which lifts this end of the lever and adjusts the film advancing claw mechanism when the control knob 14 is manually set to the reverse projection position.
As a result, the end of the lever 127 adjacent to the <B> 117 </B> arm forces the arm downward by flexing the cam blade so that the arm occupies a position in which the clutch mechanism is moved to frictionally engage the pulley with the spindle shaft. When button 14 is then returned to its forward throw setting, the lever is returned to its previous position out of primary engagement with the displacement arm and the cam feeler blade returns to its previous unfolded condition.
The film extracting mechanism, which has been briefly described in connection with FIG. 6 and which is also shown in fia. 7, is shown in detail in FIGS. 11, 12 and 13. As mentioned previously, this mechanism comprises a film drive device 64 and an extractor finger device 65, each of which is movable between a retracted position as shown in FIGS. 6, 7 and 12, and an active position in engagement with film 38 on the spool housed in cartridge 31 aligned with the mechanism, as shown in fia. 11. The finger 67 passes between the pair of rails extending internally 43 in the lower housing member of this cartridge and is guided by this pair of rails.
The film drive device comprises a drive pulley <B> 131 </B> (fig. 13), a guide pulley 132 and a guide pulley 133. The pulleys are mounted between side plates 134. and 135, which are held in position by pegs 136 and 137 extending respectively through corresponding holes 138 and 139 in the side plates and through the slightly larger center holes 141 and 142 of pulleys 132 and 134, whereby these two pulleys can turn on the ankles. The end 143 of the drive shaft 73 extends through the end wall 66 of the frame adjacent to the extraction mechanism and is of reduced diameter.
This smaller end 143 extends freely through holes 1-14 in the side plates on the opposite side of pulley 131 but is tightly engaged through center hole 145 in this pulley to prevent rotation of the pulley by speed. port to the drive shaft. Consequently, the assembly of pulleys is retained in angular movable relation ment on the end of the drive shaft by the pulley 131 in cooperation ;; ration with the stud 146 driven into the hole 147 of the end of the pulley. the tree. With the positive device thus assembled, a round elastic belt 1-i8 is stretched around the pulleys and protrudes beyond the upper edges of the side plates.
Since the drive shaft rotates continuously during operation of the device, clockwise as shown in fig. 6 and 11 to 13, it appears that the belt is driven continuously in the corresponding direction without influence of the angular position of the drive belt assembly. Behind the end wall 66, a cam sensor 149 is pivoted on the drive shaft 73. The upper branch of the cam sensor is secured to the side plate 134 by a dowel <B> 151 </B> received in a hole 152 of this plate, with the lower branch of the probe provided with a probe pin 153.
A spring 154 is attached to the lower leg of the probe and presses it clockwise to bias the stud 153 into engagement with the extractor control cam 155 on the camshaft 72. Accordingly, when the cam is in the position shown, .eritée in fig. 12, the drive belt assembly is retracted by engaging the stud 153 with the surface 156 of the cam.
When the cam is moved to the position shown in fia. <B> 11, </B> however, the notched portion 157 of the cam is aligned with the feeler pin <B> 153, </B> allowing the probe to move. be rotated by the spring 154 to move the drive belt assembly to its shown position in which the belt 148 thereof engages the outer turn of the film 38. Note in fia. 11 that the stud <B> 153 </B> is spaced from the innermost peripheral surface of the notched portion of the cam, whereby the drive belt assembly could move further to engage tin smaller film roll.
The puller finger device includes a support plate 159 pivotally mounted to end wall 66 by a dowel 161 attached to the support plate and extending through a socket 162 in the wall (Fig. 7). The dowel end <B> 161 </B> extending outwardly from the support frame also serves as a pivot support for a damper member 163 and for a film guide roller 164 which pushes the gold apart. shock absorber of the support plate. The puller finger member 67 is secured to the support plate <B> 159 </B> by a stud <B> 165 </B> and is biased to rotate clockwise by a spring 166 the opposing legs of which engage pegs 167 and 168 on the support plate and the finger, respectively.
A lever 169, adjacent to the interior side of the end wall <B> 166. </B> is attached to the peg <B> 161 </B> and is provided with an elongated notch <B> 171 </ B> in which is received a pin of the cam feeler arm 149. By this arrangement, the position of the extractor device is coordinated with that of the film device so that the two positive devices are moved simultaneously to their respective position shown either in fig. I I or in fia. 12 in response to movement of cam 155.
When a reel of film is moved by the cartridge binding rake into the projection position, the elements of the extractor mechanism are initially positioned as shown in fig. 12, out of the path of the cartridge rack, with an upward rotational movement of the cartridge 67 limited by its engagement with a chord 173 extending downward from the housing wall 13. Unlike the fia. However, the film is obviously fully wound on the reel in its cartridge at this stage of the operating cycle. When the spool has been placed correctly, the cam 155 begins the film extracting operation by allowing the drive belt and the extractor finger to occupy the positions shown in fia. 11.
Very shortly before this occurs, however, the clutch control mechanism moves the clutch device to its friction drive position to rotate the spool rapidly clockwise, so that excess slack in the film roll is absorbed due to the rapid acceleration of the spool and the inertia of the loose turns of the film.
When the drive belt engages the film roll, the clutch is in the moving phase from its friction operation to its neutral position, but for a short interval the film roll is under the rotational influences. opposites of the two pins and the drive belt, thereby causing additional stiffening of the roller if excessive slack is still present. When the roll has become tightly wound, the torque exerted on it by the drive belt overcomes the opposing torque of the friction drive spindle head, allowing the spool to be driven by the belt before completion. of the clutch disengagement process.
When the simultaneous movement of the support plate allows the extractor finger to occupy its illustrated position, above the roll of film, the finger 67 is not retained any longer by the frame 173 or by the contact with the surfaces. adjacent to the cartridge binding rake (fi- 3) and is therefore moved upward between the ribs 43 by the spring 166 to dispose its pointed end 174 against the film. Therefore, the film leader is engaged by the finger and guided downward away from the roll by the inside edge 175 of the finger.
In order to establish a continuous passage along which the film initiation is brought into the projection block between the guide members 57, a film guide lip 176 extends upwardly along the edge of the top plate. 159 and is notched at its upper end as shown by 177, to receive the edge of the guide finger (Fig. 7). Thus, a smooth uninterrupted guide surface is presented to the adjacent side of the film without influence of the angular position of the extractor finger relative to the support plate.
The movable drive belt opposite to the guide surface thus established, provides guide support for the initiation of the film as it leaves the roll. Below the belt drive pulley <B> 131, </B> the damper member supports a idler 178 tangential to an internally folded guide lip <B> 179 </B> extending between the roller 178 and the roller 164 at the pivot point of the damper member.
With the damper member 163 resiliently held in a fixed position relative to the support plate by a spring 181a, urging the arm 182 in elastic contact with the ear 183, it is therefore apparent that the driving belt is cooperating. with the two rollers and the guide lip to form the aiidage surfaces conti ning to those established by the doi, _ # t extractor and the support plate.
As a result, as the film is unwound from the spool by the drive belt, its priming progresses along the path thus established and is fed between or_anes de -uida, 2e 57 for engagement by the mechanism of. insertion into the projection unit.
When the film has been inserted through the projection block, as detected by the arrival of its leader at the film window, the camshaft rotates to cause the extractors to return to their respective retracted position. . This movement places the damping guide member as shown in FIG. 12, so that the upper roller 178 thereof defines the path of the film as it moves between the spool and the projection block. Since the roller can move sideways if the film tension is sufficient to overcome the elasticity of the relatively weak spring 181a, this arrangement serves to stabilize the tension in the film.
A flexible member 181 serves as a movable contact member of a normally open switch comprising this member and the contact member 184, whereby the switch is closed if the tension in the film becomes large enough to move the flexible member. 181 in contact with the adjacent contact frame 184. As explained in relation to the electrical device of the machine, this switch can therefore be used to signal the end of the projection phase of the operating cycle, at which time the film is pulled firmly between the projection assembly and the supply coil.
To fis. 14 and 15 the mechanism for advancing and determining the position of the rack comprises levers supported by the front wall <B> 185 </B> of the frame. The innermost lever 186 is placed against the front wall 185 and is pivotally attached thereto by a stud 187. At its opposite free end. the lever <B> 186 </B> includes a vertical edge 188 between an inclined top edge 189 and a notched edge 191. A spring 192 loops around a stud <B> 187 </B> and engages an ear 193 on lever 186 and a peg 194 on wall 185 to bias the free end of the lever <B> 186 </B> upward to a position where the notched edge of the lever engages a flange <B> 195 </B> extending from the frame.
A second lever <B> 196 </B> for determining the position of the rack is pivoted to the lever <B> 186 </B> by a stud 197 and, in a similar manner, is provided with a spring 198, whose arms engage a peg 199 and pin end 187 to bias the free end of the lever toward the position in which the edge 201 of the lever 196 abuts against the flange <B> 195. </B>
A slide plate 202 is supported against lever 196 for lateral sliding movement by a forwardly extending annular pin 203 received in the notch 204 of the slide plate and by a projection 205 extending towards the front. rear from the rack advancement lever 206 and received in a notch 207 located toward the opposite end of the plate. To retain the flange in this supported position, its upper edge 208 is placed adjacent to the guide flange 195, which prevents vertical movement thereof.
The end of lever 206 adjacent to guide flange 195 is similar in profile to the corresponding end of lever 186 and includes an inclined top edge 209 and an adjacent vertical edge 21 <B> 1. </B> A at its opposite end, the lever 206 is pivotally supported by a projection 212 extending through an opening <B> 213. </B> The free end of the lever 206 is urged upwardly against the flange 195 by the spring 214. whose opposing branches engage the projection 215 on the lever and the pin 216 on the wall 185.
The protrusion 212 includes one end of a cam feeler arm 217, which extends through an elongated horizontal notch, not shown, adjacent <B> there </B> the rear to the corresponding end of the lever 20C. >. The cam feeler arm is pivotally supported by a stud 218 on a flange <B> 219 </B> mounted astride the camshaft 72 at a fixed position along it. The cam feeler shoe 221 at the other end of the feeler arm is maintained in elastic contact with the periphery of the advancement and position determining cam 222 on the camshaft by means of the spring 223.
It appears that the rotation of the cam from its shown position (clockwise) causes the lever 206 to move to the left when the cam sensor shoe 221 remains in contact with the spiral surface 224 of the cam , and that the lever quickly returns to its depicted position under the influence of the spring 223 as the cam continues to rotate with the shoe in engagement with the relatively steep sloping cam surface 225. End to end. Another of this movement of lever 206, however, continues to be biased upward at its free end by spring 214, which slides along pin 216 as the spring moves with the lever.
With the levers arranged as shown in fis. 14, the vertical edges 188 and 211 of the respective levers 186 and 206 are opposed to the similar vertical edge 226 of the lever 196. As shown in Figs. 2 and 6, these opposing edges extend upwardly through and beyond the top wall 13 of the housing <B> 11 </B> in the wise pitch of the branches 52 on a supported cartridge rack carried by support rails <B> 19 </B> and 21.
The distance between the opposite edges corresponds to the width of each of the branches of the rack, from where the reception of one of the branches between its surfaces causes it to engage in order to immobilize the rack so that a car touches housed in the corresponding compartment is placed in the projection position. As the lever 206 moves to the left in response to the rotation of the cam, its free end is driven down. by the engagement of its inclined upper surface 209 with the branch of the rack, to the left of the one which continues to be engaged and maintained in a fixed position by the levers 186 and 196.
As this lever movement <B> 196 </B> continues, however, the protrusion 205 engages the edge 227 of the notch 207 in the slide plate and moves the plate with the lever 206. As the lever 206 approaches the slide plate. end of its movement to the left, the inclined edge 228 to the side of the notch 204 engages the er got 203 and moves the free end of the lever 196 downwards, against the influence of the spring 198 and out of engagement with the branch of the rack, so that the rack is free to slide to the right side of the projector.
When the lever 206 is in its extreme left position, this release of the cartridge by the lever 196 has been performed and the edge 211 of the lever 206 has been moved past the next branch, both allowing the lever to return to its position. raised with the edge 211 now placed in engagement with the left side of that branch. Therefore, when a subsequent rotation of the cam 222 brings the inclined surface 225 thereof into alignment with the feeler shoe 221, to cause the lever 206 to return to its previous position, the lever is thus moved, d 'a distance corresponding to the spacing of the adjacent car key compartments.
During this movement of the rack, the branch engaged by the lever 206 meets the inclined upper edge <B> 189 </B> of the lever <B> 186, </B> which is thus moved downwards out of the passage of the plugged. Also, before the lever 206 reaches its initial position, the projection 205 engages the side surface 229 of the notch 207 to move the plate 202 with the lever 206 from which the lug 203 enters the notch 204.
This allows the lever 196 to return to its raised position where its vertical edge 226 is aligned with the forward leg in the engaged position. Therefore, in the final state of its return movement, the lever 206 moves the simultaneously engaged binder branch in contact with the edge 226 and the inclined edge 189 of the lever 186, which returns to its raised position, thus locking the branch between the opposite vertical edges 188 and 226 of the levers. Each revolution of the camshaft causes this cycle of operation to be repeated to bring the cartridge into the next cartridge compartment in the throw position.
When the last key bus compartment has been thus put into position, the next movement of the rack disables the rack advancement mechanism when the rack engages and presses button 231 to open a normally closed switch comprising blades. contact 232 and 233 associated with the electric control device of the apparatus.
To allow the rack to be removed and replaced or to allow it to be moved manually to place any desired cartridge in the throwing position, means are provided for manually moving levers out of the path of the branches of the rack. However, it is also important to ensure that this manual movement of the rack can be accomplished only when the film and the film extractors are out of the path of movement of the rack, i.e., only at the end of each operating cycle after the end of film rewinding and before the film extraction phase of the next cycle begins.
These objectives are achieved by a manual override device comprising an arm 234 extending through a vertical notch 235 in the front wall 185 of the frame adjacent to the top surfaces of the levers. The arm is pivotally and slidably supported on the camshaft 72, which extends through an elongated notch 236 and is biased forwardly by a spring 237 to hold a cam sensor 238 in contact. with the override engagement cam? 39 on the camshaft. The front end of the arm is placed directly below the push button 241 extending through the top wall 13 (Figs. 1 and 6).
During these phases of the operating cycle, when manual movement of the rack is to be avoided, the cam probe 238 is in engagement with the surface 242 of the cam 239, the arm thus remaining in its illustrated position with its forward end, s 'extending above the locking protrusion 243, to prevent the lowering of the arm by means of the push button 241. When the apparatus is at a phase in its operating cycle suitable for manual movement of the rack, determined by the angular position of the camshaft, the cam 239 is arranged so that the arm is offset from the projection 243 by the engagement of the cam lobe 244 with the probe 238.
Consequently, the push button can thus be pressed, to move the free end of the arm downwards, the ends of the adjacent levers are thus withdrawn from the passage of the branches of the cartridge rack.
After being advanced, either manually or automatically. the rack is in an engaged position before the next cycle is started to prevent possible damage to the projector, in particular the parts of the extractor mechanism. As a result, a movable contact arm 245 extends immediately below the rack advance lever '06 and the projection 2-16 of the lever 196 and is brought out of contact with a stationary contact arm 247. if either of these levers is pressed from the position it normally occupies at this stage of the appliance cycle, as shown in fig. 14.
Accordingly, by incorporating the normally closed switch comprising arms 245 and 247 into the electrical device of the apparatus, the start of a next cycle is prevented if a cartridge is present but placed improperly.
A la fia. 16, a rotary switch comprises a conductive rotor 92 rotated by the camshaft 72 clockwise in contact with contacts 248 to 252 on stationary contact plates 91 (Fig. 7). . The secondary winding of a transformer 253 is earthed at one end and connected at its other end to the rotor by a normally closed automatic cut-off switch comprising contact members 232 and 233.
A solenoid 87 is also grounded on one side and connected to its opposite side to contact 248 through a manual actuation switch 254, a frame rate switch 255 and the rack positioning switch including the arms. switch 245 and 247. The automatic shut-off and rack position switches are both closed at the end of a full operating cycle if the rack is in an engaged position and not yet advanced into engagement with the button. 231.
The frame rate switch is operated by button 15, which allows the operator to choose different projection speeds, for example 6, 18 or 54 frames per second providing slow, normal or fast motion of projection respectively. This switch is open unless buttons 14 and 15 are set to perform forward projection at normal speed and therefore requires the film advancement mechanism to be operated at normal speed when the film insertion phase is. started to ensure the correct execution of the insert operation, after which the knob can be set to focus other speeds during the film projection phase of the cycle.
The manual operation switch 254 is simply a reed switch 18 at the end. 1, which is closed during automatic projector operation. If the operator wants to move the rack manually at the end of the cycle, therefore in forward gear, this switch is moved to its manual open position to stop the machine when this cycle is finished, at which time pushbutton 241 can be lowered. to allow manual movement of the rack.
Assuming the rotor is in the start position, aligned with contact element 248, and the various switches mentioned above are all closed, the circuit is closed to energize the solenoid. As a result, when the camshaft advances a quarter of a revolution, the energization of the solenoid is complete when the rotor disengages the contact element 2-18 and the various cams perform their respective functions as shown in. fia. 16.
When the camshaft has completed its movement through its first phase of rotation, the rotor 92 is in the insert position in alignment with the contact elements 2-19 and 250. During the previous completed phase of operation, the The extractor mechanism has normally engaged the roll of film in the cartridge in the projection position and has moved the free end of the film into engagement with the automatic insertion mechanism of the projector.
However, referring to fig. 11, If an empty rack compartment or an empty film reel is accidentally found to be in the projection position, the film roll driver will move upward beyond its illustrated roll engagement position, thereby moving the arm 149 into engagement with the movable contact arm 256 and moving this arm into contact with the adjacent stationary contact arm 257. These two contact arms enclose the vacuum rejection switch shown in FIG. 16.
Therefore, if this switch is closed with the rotor in the insert position, the solenoid is again energized by contact element 2-I9 to advance the camshaft to its second phase of motion, bringing the rotor to the projection position. Likewise, if the operator wishes to bypass the cartridge at that time in the blast position, he can lower pushbutton 17 (Fig. 1) to close the normally open manual reject switch 255, thereby setting energizing the solenoid by contact element 250.
Assuming, however, that the reject switches are both open and: once the film has been fed into the projector mechanism, the camshaft remains in the insert position until the film arrives in the window. image of the film causes the movable member 261 of the image window switch to move by the film feeler finger 262 in contact with the contact member 263. Thereupon, the solenoid is again put under tension, causing the rotor to advance by the camshaft to the projection position in which it simultaneously engages the contact elements 250, 251 and 252.
If the manual reject switch remains closed, continued energization of the solenoid by contact element 250 allows the camshaft to automatically advance to the rewind position (ye. Similarly, if the film is not present in the image window, as in the case of an empty or absent cartridge, the arrival of the rotor in the projection position energizes the solenoid by the contact 252 in series with the closed switch comprising the member 261 in contact with the adjacent switch member 26:
I. During a normal operating cycle, however, the camshaft will remain in the throw position until the solenoid is energized again by contact 251 by closing a normally open rewind switch including arms <B> 181 </B> and 184, in response to movement of the damper member 163 as the film is pulled taut about to be fully unwound from the supply spool.
Alternatively, this function could be performed by the picture window switch by providing the rear end of the film with a side notch detectable by a sleeper 262, in which case the rewinding operation could be started when the end. of the roll is close but without subjecting the film to increased tension at the end of the projection phase.
If the film imajc window is empty when the rotor is advancing from the projection position, as is the case if either of the reject contacts have operated, the solenoid remains energized by the control element. contact 252 and the rotor continues to the initial starting position. Normally, however, the rewind operation has just started when the rotor reaches the rewind position with subsequent energization of the delayed solenoid until member 261 engages the corresponding switch member 26- I in response to the film's departure from the image window.
When the rotor again arrives at the starting position, the cartridge has been rewound and advanced out of the projection position, whereupon a next cycle is automatically started unless one of the various switches previously described in series with the contact. 248 has been opened.
When the cycle has been repeated a sufficient number of times to move the rack to the end of its travel path, the disconnect switch is open to prevent repetition of a subsequent cycle until the rack is put back in place or in position. If desired. this switch, or its equivalent, can also be used to open the live line circuit to completely disconnect the projector from its current source. but this function is preferably performed by a separate switch, not shown, which can be operated manually by means of a button 16, to allow the projector lamp and the motor driven fan to remain energized when the rack is in operation. replaced or replaced.
The cartridge 31 is provided with a notch 300 (fig. 3, 6, 11 and 12). An elastic finger 302 is moved by the absence of a notch 300 to close a normally open switch 306 (Fig. 16). Switch 306 is connected in series with an audio device 304 of the projector to turn on the audio device.
If a cartridge contains a non-sounding film, the presence of a notch can be used to prevent actuation of switch 306. In this case, finger 302 is not moved due to the absence of the sensor surface. cartridge (is needed to move it. As a result, sound device 304 is not turned on.
