Device on zigzag sewing machines for the automatic sewing of buttonholes The invention relates to a device used for the automatic sewing of buttonholes on zigzag sewing machines with a presser foot with a sole that can be moved in the material feed direction and which is coupled by a transmission means with a gradually rotating control disc.
In the previously known normal household zigzag sewing machines equipped with a device for buttonhole sewing, the material to be sewn is displaced by the usual feed device, which acts on the material with the aid of the so-called feeder. The sole of the presser foot, which rests firmly on the material to be sewn, has stops that switch the control discs via a mechanical or electrical control to switch the feed device. However, this control requires additional measures that complicate the facility and make it more expensive.
Furthermore, the displacement of the sewing material by the feed dog as a result of its mostly sawtooth-shaped design has the disadvantage that the amount of the sewing material being carried along by the teeth of the feed dog is different in the two sewing directions. When sewing in different directions, this results in a different accumulation of the number of stitches per unit of length.
This disproportion between the stitch length in one direction compared to that in the other direction can now be increased due to the extremely small feed movement per stitch required when sewing buttonholes due to incorrect setting of the stitch regulator link. One caterpillar of the buttonhole then has a different stitch density than the other, caterpillar a different stitch density and the buttonhole it keeps an ugly appearance.
With pronounced buttonhole machines it is known to move the material by means of a feed element firmly resting on the sem. Such fully automatic machines are only true and suitable for the production of buttonholes. Therefore, the problem of replacing the existing buttonhole foot with other presser feet does not even arise for them.
The invention aims to simplify the known devices for the automatic sewing of buttonholes provided in connection with normal zigzag sewing machines intended for the household and to eliminate the disadvantages mentioned. In addition, a device is to be created which ensures that the material displacement of the feed element in both. Feed directions are guaranteed.
The device according to the invention for the automatic sewing of buttonholes is characterized in that the transmission means is releasably attached to the sole and can be pushed into the housing of the sewing machine.
In this way, the buttonhole foot can always be replaced quickly and easily with normal fabric presser feet. In addition, the area next to the foot is free of vibrating parts during normal sewing, so that the seamstress does not have to worry about hand injuries or damage to the sewing thread.
A structurally simplified and inexpensive production of the control lever is possible in that the retractable arm is made from a curved leaf spring and slidably stored in a guide of the arm part having a U-shaped cross section.
In an advantageous embodiment of the subject of the invention, the control lever has a plurality of bores, which are opposite corresponding bores in a support bearing connected to the housing of the sewing machine, with a pin inserted into opposite bores forming an articulated connection between the support bearing and the control lever. In this way, differently graduated buttonhole sizes should be able to be produced by simply repositioning a pin.
In the accompanying drawing, an exemplary embodiment of the subject invention is shown. They show: FIG. 1 a view of the sewing machine with the new device for automatically sewing buttonholes from the front.
Fig. 2 is a partial view of the machine without arm cover from above.
3 shows a perspective partial representation of the machine with the head cover removed, the arm cover lifted off and the support plate lifted off, FIG. 4 a section along the line IV-IV of FIG.
On the arm 1 of the sewing machine, a support plate 4 (Fig. 2) is attached under the cover 2 carrying a flap 3. On the plate 4, a shaft 5 is rotatably mounted on which a cam groove 6 provided with a cam 7 is attached. On the shaft 5, two exchangeable, firmly connected control disks 8 and 9 are also supported. They are held by a mother 10.
A fixed in the cam disks 8 and 9, parallel to the axis 5 pin 11 engages in a corre sponding hole in the underlying control disk 7 and secures the entrainment of the cam disks 8 and 9 through the shaft 5.
The shaft 5 is driven by a continuously adjustable stepping mechanism 12 (FIG. 3) which is in drive connection via a push rod 13 and a double-armed lever 14 with a conical cam 16 fixed on the arm shaft 15 of the machine.
The double-armed lever 14 is under the action of a tension spring 17, which is suspended at one end on the lever 14 and attached to the support plate 4 at the other end so that a roller 18 attached to the free end of the lever 14 is permanently connected to the cam 16 is held.
The lever 14 sits with its hub 19 rotatably movable on an axis 20 which is mounted on a slide 21 movable parallel to the arm shaft 15. The slide 21 is held and guided on the support plate 4 by means of collar screws 22 which pass through longitudinal slots 23.
A pin 26 fastened to a crank arm 25 engages in a recess 24 of the slide 21. The crank arm 25 is rotatable about an axis 27 mounted in the cover 2, which is guided through the cover 2 and carries a switch handle 28 (FIG. 1) at the upper free end. The support plate 4 is provided with a correspondingly large longitudinal opening 29 (Figure 3) so that the pin 26 can reach through unhindered to actuate the slide 21.
A lever 30 (Fig. 2), which is rotatably mounted about a bolt 31 attached to the support plate 4, carries in the middle a nose 32 which rests against the control disc 8. With its free end, the lever 30 is hinged to a transmission rod 33 which is connected by means of an eccentric collar screw 34 to a lever arm 35 (Fig. 3), which cooperates in a known manner with the device for the stitch width.
On a further fastened on the support plate 4 th bolt 36 (Fig. 2), an angle lever 37 is rotatably mounted, which has a nose 38 resting on the control disk 9 at one end and the other end of which is hinged to a transmission rod 39. The transmission rod 39 is in turn articulated by means of an eccentric collar screw 40 to a lever arm 41 (FIG. 3) which cooperates in a known manner with the device for the stitch field position.
On the bolt 31 (Fig. 2), a double lever 42 is also mounted, one arm 43 of which carries a pin 44 which is guided in the cam groove 6 of the control disc 7. The end 45 (FIG. 3) of the other arm of the double lever 42 is angled and carries a ball stud 46.
At the head of the sewing machine a U-shaped angle piece 47 is attached, on the web 48 of which a bracket 49 is screwed. Web and bracket together form a support bearing 50 for a control lever 51, which is provided at its upper end with an eye 52 which comprises the ball stud 46.
The middle part of the bracket 49 and also the web 48 are provided with longitudinal tabs 53 and 54 extending in the longitudinal direction of the control lever 51 in order to better guide the control lever 51 to the bil. On the outside of the central part of the bracket 49 a vertically extending reinforcement 55 is provided, which is provided in a slot in the head cover 56 (FIG. 1) of the machine, not shown.
The support bearing 50 (FIG. 4) has several bores 57 which correspond to corresponding bores 58 in the control lever 51. A pin 59, which is provided with a handle and which can be inserted into opposite holes 57, 58, serves as a fulcrum for the control lever 51.
The control lever 51 has an arm part 60 (Fig. 3), the longitudinal edges of which are bent up in a U-shape to form a guide for a resilient arm 62 bent in the direction of the fabric push rod 61 of the machine, which is inserted into the arm part 60 with provided with a longitudinal slot 63 and bent at the lower end to form a handle 64.
A presser foot 65 is attached to the presser bar 61 of the sewing machine and consists of a shaft 66, a sole 67, a hinge pin 68 and a roller 69. The shaft 66 terminates in two prongs 70, between which the roller 69 is mounted on the hinge pin 68.
The outwardly projecting ends of the hinge pin 68 protrude into the longitudinal slots 71 of U-shaped bent side parts 72 of the sole 67, while the roller 69 rests on the floor of the sole 67 and to transmit the pressure of a presser spring, not shown, to the sole 67 serves.
One of the two side parts 72 of the sole 67 carries a pin 73 into which the arm 62 of the control lever 51 can be hooked after being pushed out of the arm part 60 with a vertical slot 74 provided above the handle 64.
The device works as follows: When the machine is running, the double-armed lever 14 is given oscillating movements by the cam 16 via the roller 18, which are transmitted to the indexing mechanism 12 by the push rod 13. As a result, the control disks 7, 8 and 9 are driven step by step. If the switch handle 28 is actuated, the axis 20 of the double-armed lever 14 is displaced parallel to the arm shaft 15.
The roller 18 is guided along the flank of the conical cam 16. The step size of the feed movement of the control disks 7, 8 and 9 can thus be from zero to one. Maximum corresponding to the eccentricity of the cam 16 can be set continuously.
To produce a buttonhole, the switch handle 28 is set to a small angle of rotation of the shaft 5 per switching step. The arm 62 of the control lever 51 is pulled out and the sole 67 of the presser foot 65 is moved so that the pin 73 arranged on one side part 72 of the sole 67 can be inserted into the slot 74 of the arm 62. The machine is now set for buttonhole sewing.
The buttonhole seam can begin at any point in the buttonhole. The sole 67 of the presser foot 65 is moved back and forth with the fabric through the cam groove 6 of the control disk 7 via the pin 44, the double lever 42 and the control lever 51.
At the same time, the stitch width of the needle bar is controlled by the control disc 8 via the lever 30, the transmission rod 33 and the lever arm 35, while the stitch field position is controlled by the control disc 9 via the angled lever 37,
the transmission rod 39 and the lever arm 41 of the adjusting device for the stitch field position is controlled. After completing the closed button hole seam, the buttonhole is sewn in a known manner by switching off the overstitch and the machine is ready in the starting position to produce a new buttonhole.
The size of the buttonhole can be changed by choosing a different pivot point of the control lever 51, i. H. by repositioning the pin 59, in corresponding to other holes 57, 58 can be changed. The distances between the bores 57, 58, which are arranged one above the other, are chosen so that the normal buttonhole sizes can be produced.
