Steam ironing device Steam ironing devices are known which have a steam boiler which is connected to an iron via a flexible steam pipe, the work surface (sole) of which is provided with holes from which the steam exits when ironing.
These devices have the disadvantage of being explosive because of the boiler, which is why strict compliance with strict safety regulations is required. There are also known electric irons in which a water storage space is provided in the iron itself and the water can be evaporated if necessary. These irons are heavy and unwieldy. Furthermore, the often necessary refilling of the iron is a nuisance.
The steam ironing device according to the invention is characterized to avoid these disadvantages by an iron and a water supply unit, which are connected by a hose and a multi-core, electrical cal cable, this unit has a water tank and an electrically driven pump and the iron with a Switch is provided, by the operation of which the pump can be controlled, and wherein further the body of the iron is provided with an electrical heating element and with an evaporation path connected to the hose, which opens out through a plurality of holes in the working surface of the iron, which Whole thing like that,
that when the pump is operating, water is pumped out of the water tank into the evaporation path, which emerges from the holes mentioned in the form of steam.
An exemplary embodiment of the subject matter of the invention is shown in the drawing. It is: FIG. 1 a perspective illustration of a steam ironing device; FIG. 2 shows a diagram of the same device; 3 shows a horizontal section through the body of the iron belonging to the device according to FIGS. 1 and 2, and FIG. 4 shows a vertical section through the iron body, along line IV-IV of FIG.
The steam iron shown consists according to FIG. 1 of an iron 1, a water supply unit 2, a flexible line 3 connecting these parts 1 and 2 and an electrical connection cable 4. The iron 1 has an iron body 5, the top with a a plastic housing 7 forming a handle 6 is provided.
Of a thermal switch 8 accommodated in the housing 7 (see FIG. 2), only its rotatable handle 9 is visible in FIG. 1, which can be adjusted from a switch-off position to various iron body temperatures on an almost 360-degree scale. Instead of the temperature, the various substances can be written in the usual way, eg. B. cotton, nylon, etc., when ironing the thermostat switch must be set accordingly.
In Fig. 2, the well-known thermostat switch 8 is shown in a greatly simplified manner, with a bimetal strip 10 controls the switching contact 11, which is shown omitting the setting handle 9 in the closed state. A control lamp 12 lights up when the switching contact 11 is closed and the iron 1 is connected to voltage. A push button switch 13, the button of which protrudes from the bottom of the handle 6, is used to control the steam generation in a manner explained in more detail later.
An electrical heating element 14 is accommodated in the iron body 5 (see FIGS. 2 and 4), the connection terminals of which are denoted by 15 and 16. In the iron body 5, a plurality of central cavities 17 and side cavities 18 is also seen before, which are connected to one another by channels 19 in series.
The last lateral cavity 18 is followed by five cavities 17, which are not only connected in series by channels 19, but are also connected via channels 20 connected in parallel to an intermediate space 21 which is connected to a steam via three channels 22 connected in parallel. Output space 23 is connected. From the output space 23 is a plurality of fine holes 24 which open out on the work surface 25 of the iron, with the free atmosphere in connec tion.
The flexible line 3 contains a tube 26 and a four-wire electrical cable 27 in a common sheath (not shown in FIG. 2). The tube 26 is connected via a check valve 28 to the first lateral cavity of the iron body 5, designated 18a , while the cable 27 opens into the plastic housing 7. The hous se 7 is attached to the body 5 with the help of screws not presented Darge. A threaded hole 29 for one of these screws can be seen from FIG.
The water replenishment unit 2 has a bell-shaped jacket 30 which z. B. can consist of light metal casting and is divided into two unequal spaces 32 and 33 by an intermediate floor 31, which is indicated schematically in FIG. 1 and consists of one piece with the jacket 30. The upper, larger space 32 serves as a water container and is provided at the top with a cover 34 which is screwed into the upper part of the casing 30 and which has a handle 35 used for unscrewing the cover and for transporting the unit 2.
The lower, smaller space 33 is closed off at the bottom by a base 36 which is detachably attached to the jacket 30 in a manner not shown in detail. In the lower room 33 a pump 37, a terminal board 38, a control lamp 39, a main switch 40 and a capacitor 41 serving for radio interference suppression are accommodated. The control lamp 49 is of course visible from the outside and the main switch 40 can be operated from the outside (see FIG. 1).
The pump 37 is a so-called magnetic pump, the hydraulic part of which is provided with two valves 43 and 44 on the inlet side via an - in reality very short - inlet line 45 with the water tank 32, while on the outlet side it is connected to the hose 26. The magnetic pump 37 furthermore has a diaphragm 46 (or a piston) which is moved back and forth via a magnet 47 fifty times per second when a drive winding 48 is supplied with an electric current of 50 Hz. The connection cable 4, at the free end of which a plug 49 is provided, contains two power supply conductors 50, 51 and a grounding conductor 52.
The terminals of the terminal board 38 are labeled 53-57 and the wires of the cable 27 are labeled 58-61.
The steam ironing device described works as follows: When the plug 49 is connected to the mains and the main switch 40 is closed, the control lamp 39 lights up (circuit 50, 55, 39, 40, 54, 51). If the thermostat switch 8 is now set to a desired temperature of the iron body 5, i.e. the switch contact 11 is closed, as shown in FIG. 2, a current flows in the heating element 14 until the set temperature is reached, whereupon the switch contact 11 passes the bimetal strip 10 is automatically opened again. (Circuit 50, 55, 61, 15, 14, 16, 11, 59, 57, 40, 54, 51).
As long as you do not close the push button switch 13, the iron now works like an ordinary iron without generating steam. On the other hand, if you press the button of the switch 13 attached to the iron handle 6, the winding 48 of the magnetic pump 47 is excited (circuit 50, 55, 48, 56, 60, 13, 59, 57, 40, 54, 51) and becomes by this pump 37 via the inlet line 45 water is sucked from the container 32 and pressed via the hose 26 and the check valve 28 into the first cavity 18a.
When passing through the cavities 17 and 18 of the hot iron body 5, the water supplied to the iron 1 evaporates and the steam formed there escapes through the holes 24 from the work surface 25 of the iron, so that the ironing is steamed in the desired manner. The steam is generated at a pressure that is a little higher than atmospheric pressure due to the numerous throttling points 19, 20, 22, 24 of the water-steam path, but can never be dangerously high in the absence of an enclosed space, so that any safety measures z. B. the attachment of safety valves or the like is completely unnecessary.
As soon as you no longer press the switch 13, the steam generation stops. The content of Behäl age 32 is so large that you can iron with steam for a whole day without having to refill the same water.
The interference suppression capacitor 41 is connected on the one hand via the terminal 54 or 55 to the power supply conductor 51 or 50 and on the other hand is connected to the grounding conductor 52. The latter is connected via the terminal 53 or the conductor 58 to the masses of the unit 2 or of the iron 1, i.e. H. that is, with the jacket 30 or the iron body 5.
In order to prevent the flexible line from lying on the work table during ironing and thereby interfering with the ironing process, the water supply unit 2 is provided with a flexible, telescopically extendable holder 62 (see FIG. 1) which is attached to the shell 30 at the bottom , e.g. B. by inserting into a vertical bore of a thickened wall part of the shell 30 and at its free, upper end a short holding helix 63, on which the line 3 is suspended.
The device shown is, as can be seen, easily transportable and intended especially for small cutting reies. If you use the ironing device very often and always in the same place, e.g. B. in larger clothing workshops, it can be advantageous not to lead trainees the water replenishment unit transportable, but to build it into a piece of furniture, especially a work table. In this case, only the holder 62, which is preferably present again, protrudes from the table surface and the flexible line comes out next to the holder 62 to an opening in the table surface.
It may also be advantageous under certain circumstances to replace the magnetic pump 37 with a motor pump, i. H. by a small electric motor that drives a pump via a mechanical transmission, e.g. B. a piston pump via a crank mechanism.
It should also be noted that the control lamps 12 and 39 are extremely practical because you - z. B. when leaving the tailor's workshop - can see from a distance at a glance whether any iron 1 or water supply units 2 have not been switched off.
