Device for guiding a working bar on a sliding headstock turning lathe The biggest problem in the peeling industry is to machine the parts within prescribed tolerance limits. In automatic sliding headstock turning machines, the front end of a metal bar rotating around its axis is machined by sliding tools mounted on supports fixed around the bar. To be able to machine the front end of the bar with the required precision, it must be perfectly centered and guided.
There are various guiding devices, provided with a clamp with elastic jaws housed in a sheath integral with the tool holder support, a back and forth movement of the clamp or a barrel causing the opening or closing. closing of the jaws intended to guide the end of the bar to be machined. To maintain machining precision, the clamping of the guide jaws on the bar to be machined must be constant. In most known guiding devices, the rotation and longitudinal displacement of the bar to be machined produces wear of the jaws and the clamping of the clamp must be frequently checked and adjusted.
Another known guide device provides for the opening and closing of the jaws by the reciprocating movement of a clamp barrel, effected by means of a rotary control member having two different screw pitches, the rotary control member being actuated by one end of a rocker arm, a cam of which periodically actuates the other end.
However, this device has several drawbacks. Its adjustment is delicate. When changing the clamp due to the change in diameter of the bar to be machined, the dismantling of the latter must be done on the side of the machining tools which are to be dismantled. The hull actuating the rotary member must also be changed and requires angular adjustment.
The guiding device which is the subject of the present invention obviates all these drawbacks: the clamp change being effected by the rear of the support plate avoids the dismantling of the machining tools, while the actuating device of the rotary member, cooperating synchronously with that which actuates the clamp of the tailstock, remains the same, whatever the diameter of the bar to be machined, from the diameter of 0.5 mm to 25 mm, eliminating this makes the need to change and adjust cams.
The device according to the invention is characterized by a conical sleeve housed in a conical bore of the frame of the lathe, sleeve provided with means allowing it to be clamped on a cylindrical part inside which is slidably mounted a conical opening sleeve. cooperating with a conical front portion of a clamp having slots in order to form clamping and guide jaws, this clamp being threaded into the sleeve, a spring being disposed between the rear end of said clamp and the bottom of the sleeve, means allowing, when loosening the clamp, axial movements of the latter, of the cylindrical part and of the sleeve, while preventing any relative rotational movement of these members, and a shoulder nut screwed onto the threaded rear end of the cylindrical part,
the sleeve under the action of the spring coming to bear on the bottom of the nut, the whole being arranged so that under the action of the control means acting to rotate said nut in one direction, in order to allow the bottom of the sleeve to move away from the rear end of the clamp under the action of said spring, which corresponds to the opening of the jaws of the clamp, while when the means cease to act, said nut is turned in reverse direction under the action of a return spring, bringing the bushing closer to the clamp and closing the guide jaws, this movement being limited by the support of the jaws of the clamp on the working bar.
The accompanying drawings show, by way of example, one embodiment of the guiding device which is the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a top view of the device, partially in section.
Fig. 2 is a side view, partially in section.
Reference 1 shows the part of the bed of a lathe intended to receive the guide device, seen partially cut away, which also serves as a support for the tool holders mounted in a fan around the device (seen in section).
In a conical bore forming a bezel is housed a conical sleeve 2 which has three radial slots 2a, a cylindrical front part 2b and a cylindrical rear part 2c, on which is screwed a nut 3 bearing on the rear face of the support 1 and making it possible to tighten the sleeve 2 in the bezel. Inside the sleeve 2, and slidable therein, is housed a cylindrical part 4 threaded at its rear end. The part 4 has at its front end a longitudinal groove 4a in which a screw 2d forms a key and prevents the part 4 from rotating. A sleeve 5, the bottom of which is drilled, has at its front end a conical cover 5b.
The sleeve 5 is threaded into the part 4 and has a longitudinal groove 5c, in which the end of a screw 4b is engaged which prevents the sleeve 5 from rotating. Inside the cup 5 is housed a clamp 6 whose front part has slots 6a and a conical part 6b forming guide jaws 6c, the conical part 6b being housed in the conical part 5b of the sleeve 5. L 'shoulder formed by the front part of the conical part 6b comes to bear on the inner rim of the part 4. A pressure spring 7, the ends of which bear on the bottom of the sleeve 5 on the one hand and on the rear end of the clamp 6 on the other hand, tends to push the sleeve 5 backwards.
The clamp 6 has a longitudinal groove 6d in which engages the end of a key screw 5d preventing the clamp 6 from rotating. When tightening the nut 3, the slots 2a of the conical sleeve 2 tighten like a pliers on the cylindrical part 4, the conical surfaces of the sleeve 2 tighten against the conical surface of the bezel and the parts 2 and 4 thus become integral with the support 1. The sleeve 5 and the clamp 6 cannot rotate on their axis as a result of the key screws 4b and 5d. A shoulder nut 8 is screwed onto the threaded part of the rear end of the cylindrical part 4, the bottom of which, drilled in its center, comes to rest on the outer surface of the bottom of the sleeve 5.
On the cylindrical part of the nut is threaded a slotted flange 9 which can be tightened on the nut by means of the screw 9a (fig. 2). A boss 9b of the flange 9 carries a finger 10 forming the rotary actuator for opening and closing the guide clamp 6. In fact, when the nut 8 is turned in the opposite direction to that clockwise, the bottom of the nut moves away from the rear end of the part 4, thus allowing the spring 7 to push the sleeve 5 backwards. As a result, the conical part 5b of the socket is released from the conical part 6b of the clamp 6, which allows the guiding jaws 6c of the clamp to open.
The screwing movement of the nut 8 on the cylindrical part 4 on the other hand causes the advance of the sleeve 5, the conical part 5b of which cooperating with the conical part 6b causes the clamping of the jaws 6c of the clamp 6. However, the screwing movement of the nut 8 corresponds to a lateral movement from right to left of the finger 10 (fig. 1). If the finger 10 is on the other hand pushed to the right, it turns the nut in the direction of the wise unscrewing and consequently causes the opening of the guide jaws of the clamp. A base 11, intended to be screwed onto the frame of the lathe, behind the support 1, has two drilled sup ports 12 and 13 in which a hollow axle 14 can slide. This hollow axle is closed at one of its ends by a plate 15 having an eyelet 16 to which the end of a res comes out of tension 17.
The other end of the spring 17 is fixed to an eyelet 18 of a plug 19 penetrating with play into the bore of the support 12 and the rim of which bears on the surface 12a of the support 12. Two stop rings 20 and 20a are mounted on either side of the finger 10 on the pin 14 and held in place by screws 21. A third ring 22 is mounted near the right end of the pin 14 and held in place by a screw 23.
The base 11 is extended by an arm 11a on which is journalled at 24 a double lever 25. The arm 25a is biased at 25b periodically to the left by the device which controls the opening and closing of the clamp of the doll as well as synchronized opening and closing of the guide clamp 6.
The 25th arm is provided with a finger 26 screwed at its end. At the moment when the control device (not shown) causes the movement to the left of the arm 25a (FIG. 1), the finger 26 moves the ring 22 and therefore the axis 14 integral with the latter towards the right, against the action of the spring 17. The movement of the axis 14 to the right also drives the rings 20 and 20a, and the ring 20 urges the finger 10 to move to the right, causing a rotation of the nut 8 counterclockwise, thus causing the jaws 6c of the clamp to open as described above. There is obviously a bar to be machined, not shown, inside the guide device, as indicated by dotted lines in FIG. 2.
When the device having commanded the opening of the clamp releases the lever 25a again, the return spring 17 brings back the pin 14 to the left, until this movement is stopped by the support of the jaws of the clamp. on the bar. This limitation of the closure of the gripper by the diameter of the bar itself automatically compensates for the differences in tolerance of the diameter of the bars supplied, while the clamping pressure of the jaws of the guide gripper depends on the tension of the spring 17. It can be seen that the guiding device described provides microguiding with automatic compensation for variations in the tolerance of the bar material delivered. We could provide a positive dis making it possible to vary the voltage of the res out 17.
The guide device described further shows that when the removal of the clamp 6 is necessary, either for cleaning thereof. or with a view to changing the collet following a change in the diameter of the bar to be machined, this withdrawal can take place very quickly. It suffices to loosen the screw 9a of the flange 9 and to unscrew the nut 8. The sleeve 5 containing the spring 7 and the clamp 6, can then be removed from the cylindrical part 4. The reverse operation makes it possible to refit the sleeve containing the cleaned clamp or a new clamp whose internal diameter of the jaws 6c is adapted to the diameter of the new bar to be machined.
On the other hand, it is possible to remove from the sleeve 2 the fully assembled guiding device, comprising parts 4 to 10. It suffices for this to tighten and separate the rings 20 and 20a, or at least one of them, so that after loosening the nut 3, the entire guide device of the sleeve 2 can be removed.
