Method for operating a magnetogasdynamic generator with a semi-open circuit The invention relates to a method for operating a magnetogasdynamic generator with a semi-open circuit to generate electrical energy, through whose duct located in a magnetic field hot working gas flows at high speed, which when entering the duct To achieve high electrical conductivity, it is additionally ionized by mixing substances.
Two embodiments are known from the literature for magnetogasdynamic generators, namely with a closed and an open circuit.
In a closed circuit, the working gas with the additive is constantly circulated through the generator, with nothing being lost. When choosing the working gas and the additive, economic considerations therefore play only a subordinate role; one will therefore be guided by physical and chemical points of view. To avoid the risk of corrosion, which is particularly great at the high temperatures that occur, an inert gas is selected as the working gas, preferably a noble gas.
Theoretically, any element of the first to third group of the Periodic Table could be used as an additive, but the use of cesium is obvious because of its low ionization potential and for other reasons. In projects today, preference is given to cesium. The disadvantage of the generator with a closed circuit is that the supply of heat to the working gas must take place via heat exchangers or with atomic energy at the point of the highest temperature and is therefore technically difficult to carry out.
In the open circuit, new working gas is constantly generated through combustion and fed to the generator. The additive also leaves the system together with the exhaust gases. The possibility of the additive settling on the downstream heat exchangers has already been considered, but the quantities obtained in this way are undoubtedly small. There is thus the need to look at the choice of the additive for extreme economy. This leads to the use of potassium compounds, which cause the gas to have a high conductivity even at a relatively low concentration.
Other additives have not yet been proposed because either their unit prices are too high or they have to be used in very large quantities, which, in addition to making them more expensive, often also has other disadvantages. The disadvantage of the generator with an open circuit is that the additives are lost and they therefore have to be used as sparingly as possible, which means that the electrical conductivity achieved remains below the physically possible maximum.
The invention aims to combine the advantages of magnetogasdynamic generators with closed and open circuits while avoiding the disadvantages on both sides. This goal is achieved by using an element of the first to third group of the periodic system in pure form or as a compound for ionization <B> '</B> which is recovered from the working gas after flowing through the generator, while the exhaust gas escapes into the atmosphere.
Using the single figure of the drawing, an example embodiment of the invention is explained below. At <B> 1 </B>, the high-temperature working gas generated by combustion flows to the generator, to which an additive is added to increase the electrical conductivity at 2. After the working gas has flowed through channel 3 of the generator while releasing energy, it is cooled as far as possible in a heat exchanger 4. This heat exchanger can be part of a steam turbine plant, e.g.
B. their steam generator, or serve to preheat the fuel and the combustion air for the generator itself, but also belong to any other useful system. The working gas then flows through a gas scrubber <B> 5 </B> which can be a gas cleaning system of a known type. At <B> 6 </B>, the necessary rinsing water is supplied. In this way, the additive is separated from the working gas and collects as an aqueous solution in the sump <B> 7. </B> With the spray system <B> 8 </B>, the heat exchanger 4 is cleaned periodically; This solution also collects in the sump <B> 7. </B> The cleaned exhaust gases escape into the atmosphere at <B> 9 </B>.
The wet gas cleaning described here has the advantage over the electric gas filter system that it exploits the hygroscopic property of many additives. The approximately saturated solution of the additive is cleaned of combustion residues and other insoluble impurities by simple filtration and, at 2, returned to the working gas in solid form or injected as an aqueous solution. It can also be introduced together with the fuel or the combustion air.
Based on the system of gas turbine construction, the process described is referred to as a semi-open cycle, because the working gas is passed through the magnetogasdynamic generator in one pass, while the additive is separated from the working gas after passing through the generator with the help of a gas cleaning system and again fresh working gas is added, so describes a closed circuit.
Due to the recovery, the inevitable losses of additive are only minor. This means that economic considerations only play a subordinate role, and any additive <B> - </B> can be used for this purpose; only the elements of the first to third group of the periodic system <B> - </ B > be used in the amount required to achieve optimum conductivity.
These can be the cesium and potassium compounds, which were previously exclusively provided, and which can now be used in increased concentrations, as well as substances which are characterized by better corrosion properties, but which have not yet been considered because their ionization potential is higher than that of cesium or potassium and which must therefore be added to the working gas in large quantities.
The magnetogasdynamic generator with semi-open circuit is similar in structure to the generator with open circuit, but it also includes the advantages of the generator with closed circuit. When choosing the additive, the question of cost is no longer in the foreground; both its physical and chemical properties can be taken into account to a greater extent, and the entire system can be designed according to new points of view, whereby the achievement of the optimum is within reach.
So the generator with half-open circuit is not only on par with the two known designs, but also proves to be superior to them due to the advantages mentioned.
