b) Zu 3,29 Teilen 3-Chlor-5-(3'-N-formyl-N- methylaminopropyl)-iminodibenzyl in 1200 Volum- teilen abs.

where Z1 and Amt mean the same as Z and Am, but in at least one of the two radicals at least one ethylene group bonded to a nitrogen atom has been replaced by a carbonyl group, with an alkali metal-earth metal hydride,
especially with lithium aluminum hydride, treated. The process according to the invention is particularly suitable for the preparation of N ', N'-disubstituted 3-halogen-5 - (α-aminomethyl-alkyl) -imino-dibenzylene or -iminostilbenes. By adding reactive esters, in particular halides or sulfates, aliphatic or araliphatic alcohols, e.g. B. of methyl iodide, dimethyl sulfate, ethyl bromide, ethyl iodide or benzyl chloride, monoquaternary ammonium compounds can be prepared from the tertiary amines of the formula I in the usual way, with the group Am reacting.
The tertiary bases form salts, some of which are water-soluble, with inorganic or organic acids, such as hydrochloric acid, hydrobromic acid, sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, methanesulfonic acid, ethane disulfonic acid, acetic acid, citric acid, malic acid, succinic acid, fumaric acid, maleic acid, tartaric acid, benzoic acid and phthalic acid .
In the example below, parts mean parts by weight; these are related to parts by volume as g to cm33. The temperatures are given in degrees Celsius.
Example a) 34.3 parts of 3-chlorine - 5 - [3'- (N-methyl-acet-amido) -propyl] -iminodibenzyl of melting point 85 to 87 are abs in 1200 parts by volume. Ether ge dissolved and the solution with stirring to 4 parts of lithium aluminum hydride in 50 parts by volume of abs. Ether dripped,
the exothermic reaction causes the ether to boil under reflux. The mixture is heated for 41½ hours, then carefully decomposed with 3.4 parts of water, then with 3.4 parts by volume of 15% sodium hydroxide solution and then with 10.2 parts of water. The white precipitate is filtered off with suction and washed thoroughly with ether.
After evaporation of the ether, an almost colorless oil remains, which can either be converted directly into a salt or, if necessary, purified by distillation or chromatography who can. The oil is z. B. adsorbed in petroleum ether on neutral aluminum oxide and the 3-chloro-5- (7-N-methyl-N-ethylaminopropyl) -iminodibenzyl eluted with petroleum ether-benzene 3: 2. Its refractive index nD is 1.5780. The hydrochloride melts at 179 to 182.
b) To 3.29 parts of 3-chloro-5- (3'-N-formyl-N-methylaminopropyl) -iminodibenzyl in 1200 parts by volume of abs. Ethers are 3.4 parts of Li A1 H4 in 70 parts by volume of abs. Ether was added dropwise and, after the reaction had cooled, refluxed for 10 hours.
3.4 parts by volume of water, then 3.4 parts by volume of 15019 sodium hydroxide solution and finally 10.2 parts by volume of water are then added dropwise. The white precipitate is sucked off,
and the base is extracted from the ethereal filtrate with dilute hydrochloric acid. The acidic extract is then made alkaline and extracted with ether. The crystalline hydrochloride is obtained from the dried ethereal solution by introducing hydrochloric acid gas (or adding dropwise ethereal hydrochloric acid).
If necessary, it is recrystallized from acetone. The pure 3 - chloro - 5 - (dimethylaminopropyl) - iminodibenzyl hydrochloride melts at 191.5-192.
32.9 parts of 3-chloro-5- (fl-dimethylcarbamoylethyl) - iminodibenzyl are analogously reduced with 3.4 parts of Li Al H4 in. Ether and give the identical 3 -chloro-5- (dimethylaminopropyl) -iminodi- benzyl hydrochloride, melting point 188-189.5.
