Automatic lathe with sliding headstock comprising an auxiliary device The object of the present invention is an automatic lathe with sliding headstock comprising an auxiliary device and a conveyor capable of bringing into the field of action of said auxiliary device a part machined by tools. arranged in front of said tailstock and in which a part of said auxiliary device, with an axis parallel to that of said tailstock, is housed in a location presented by the frame of the lathe and which extends between two radial tool holders arranged in front of said tailstock .
The object of the invention is to make it possible to perform on this automatic lathe several successive machining operations on the part placed in the field of action of said auxiliary device, for example, the milling of squares on barrel shafts, these because being milled automatically.
For this, the lathe according to the invention is characterized in that said part of the auxiliary device is a workpiece holder comprising a movable spindle in rotation around its axis, in that another part of said auxiliary device is a holder. -tool carrying a rotary tool intended to machine the part received by said workpiece holder, and in that the lathe comprises means synchronized with control members of said headstock, of said conveyor and of said auxiliary device,
to bring said spindle successively into several determined angular positions and to move said rotary tool so that the latter performs several machining operations on said part, the latter passing from one angular position to the next between each of said operations.
An embodiment of the lathe according to the invention is shown, by way of example, in the appended drawing of which FIG. 1 is a schematic perspective view of certain parts; fig. 2 a sectional view of a part, and FIG. 3 is an elevational view of another part, in the direction of the arrow a in FIG. 1.
The lathe shown in the drawing comprises a mobile poe 1 intended to drive a bar to be machined 2, one end of which, engaged in a fixed barrel 3, extends in front of this barrel so as to be able to be machined by radial tools 4 mounted in star around the axis of the doll 1 and the tool holders of which are guided by slides fixed (in a manner not shown) to a support plate 14 (FIG. 2) integral with the lathe.
The tools 4 are controlled by cams (not shown) wedged on a camshaft 5 which extends at the rear of the lathe, parallel to the axis of the headstock 1. A conveyor 6, movable in rotation and axially on a fixed shaft 7, and controlled by levers 8 and by cams 9 also wedged on the shaft 5, can grip a part 10, machined by the tools 4, when it is sectioned from the bar 2 and transport it, along path b,
in the position shown in FIG. 1, where it is in the field of action of an auxiliary device. Indeed, the part 10 is engaged by its rear end in a clamp 11 carried by a pin 12 of axis parallel to that of the doll 1.
This spindle (fig. 2) is mounted on a support 13 and the latter is fixed to the plate 14, in a location thereof which is situated between the slides of two radial tools 4 and which has already been used until now, in known lathes of this type, for mounting a part of an auxiliary device, such as a spindle intended to drive a drill bit, a tap, a die, to perform an additional operation at the rear end of the part being machined.
Two sleeves 15, 16, fixed, the first by means of uri nut 15 ', and the second, by force engagement, in coaxial openings 17 and 18 of the support 13, form bearings which support the spindle 12. The support 13 and spindle 12 thus occupy a place at which a drill or other rotary tool, forming part of another auxiliary device, is sometimes mounted on lathes of the type described.
The clamp 11 is mounted in the spindle 12 and controlled by known means. It bears against a cap 19 screwed onto the anterior end of the spindle 12. A sleeve 20, housed in the spindle 12 and having at its anterior end a frustoconical internal face 21 capable of cooperating with portions of the corresponding external surfaces of the spindle. clamp 11, keeps the latter centered.
In addition, it controls the opening and closing of the clamp 11, moving respectively rearward, under the action of a spring 22, or forward against the action of this spring. A sleeve 23, movable axially on the spindle 12, moving forward or backward respectively, rotates outwards or inwards the dogs 24 housed in slots 25 of the spindle 12 and resting against the front face of a sleeve 26 fixed with the pin 12.
By pivoting outwards, the dogs 24 release the sleeve 20, which allows the clamp 11 to open, while by pivoting inwards, they push back the sleeve 20, which closes the clamp 11 A nut 27, screwed onto the spindle 12, allows the sleeve 26, and consequently the dogs 24, to be moved in order to adjust the tension of the clamp at the time of tightening.
A second nut 28, screwed onto the spindle 12 behind the bearing 16, acts on a protective ring 29 fixed angularly to the spindle 12 and makes it possible to adjust the axial play thereof with respect to the sleeves 15 and 16. In in fact, the latter has a shoulder 30 which abuts against the front end of the sleeve 15; the latter, for its part, has, at its middle part, a collar 31 which presses against the support 13, and the sleeve 16 likewise has a collar 32 which presses against the support 13.
A caliper 33 (fig. 1), pivoted at 34 on an arm of the support 13 and controlled in a known manner by means of a linkage 35 by a cam (not shown) mounted on the shaft 5, drives the sleeve 23 and thus controls the opening and closing of the clamp 11.
The spindle 12 can be driven in rotation by a member 36 rotatably mounted on a sleeve 37 which has an external toothing 38 and is itself wedged on the rear end of the spindle 12, where it is held axially in place by a nut 39 screwed onto this spindle. This member 36 carries a pawl 40 which rotates freely on a tenon 41 fixed to the member 26 which, with said pawl and the denture 38, forms a one-way coupling device.
A rod 42 (fig. 1) controlled by a cam (not shown) mounted on the shaft 5, activates the member 36 in rotation alternately in one direction and the other, so as to drive the spindle 12. in step-by-step rotation, these rotations always taking place in the same direction. To maintain the pin 12 in a determined angular position between each of its rotations, the sleeve 37 carries a notched disk 43 fixed relative to this sleeve.
A roller (not shown), movable in a direction perpendicular to the axis of the pin 12 and subjected to the action of a spring, can enter after each rotational movement of the pin 12 in one of the notches of the disc 43 and thus lock said spindle exactly in the desired position.
Thus, during each cycle of operations, the part 10 taken in the clamp 11 is immobilized successively in several different angular positions, so that an additional machining operation can be carried out on said part, in each of these positions.
These operations are carried out by an end mill 44 (fig. 1 and 3), which is driven in rotation by a pulley 45 and which is mounted on an auxiliary tool holder comprising a vertical slide 46 carrying bearings in which the shaft is pivoted. spindle (not shown) of the cutter 44.
This slide 46 is movable vertically in a slide 47 itself carried by a horizontal slide 48 capable of moving in a horizontal direction perpendicular to the axis of the spindle 12, relative to a bench 49 secured to the frame of the lathe . The slide 47 and therefore the slide 46 can be oriented at will, within certain limits, around an axis parallel to that of the spindle 12 by known means (not shown).
In addition, their axial position with respect to the pin 12 can also be adjusted by means of a micrometric screw 50. As seen in FIG. 3, the milling cutter 44 can be brought into a position such that by moving downward in a direction perpendicular to its axis, it mills in the part 10 a planar face parallel to the axis of this part and located at a strictly determined distance from this axis.
The lathe further comprises means for controlling this movement of the cutter 44, each time the part 10 is immobilized in a new orientation and for then returning the cutter to its initial position by another path, while said part is rotating. around its axis to take the position in which the next operation must be performed. The means intended to control these movements of the cutter are all controlled by a single cam 51, mounted on the shaft 5 and the angular position of which is adjusted relative to that of the cam which controls the rod 42.
This cam 51 comprises four identical nozzles oriented at 901, from each other.
A lever 52, pivoted on the bench 49 about a horizontal axis, carries a first roller 53 which remains in contact with the cam 51. A second roller 54, also pivoted on the lever 52, supports the slide 46, which is constantly biased downward by springs 55 (fig. 2).
The lever 52 thus controls the movements of this slide. It also carries a rod 56 which is biased by a spring 57 armed between this rod and a beak 58 of the lever 52 and which can pivot against the action of the spring 57, from a rest position, shown in phantom lines. in fig. 3, in which it presses against the spout 58. This rod 56 carries a roller 68 which cooperates with an S-shaped lever 59 pivoted at one of its ends, around a horizontal axis, on a support 60 fixed. at bench 49.
The lever 59 has a bearing surface 61 and carries, at its upper part, a latching stud 62, cooperating with a corresponding stud 63, fixed to a lever 64, which is also pivoted about an axis horizontal on the support 60, and which is constantly urged downwards by a spring 69, the lower end of which is hooked to a tenon integral with this support 60. The main function of the lever 59 is to move the cutter 44 horizontally .
For this, a screw 65, fixed in a projecting part of the slide 48, constantly presses against the bearing surface 61 and springs (not shown) armed between this slide 48 and the bench 49 constantly tend to move this slide towards the left, in fig. 3, so as to bring its front face into contact with a stop screw 66 fixed to the bench 49. The screw 66 thus makes it possible to precisely delimit the anterior position of the slide 48 and consequently of the cutter 44.
The lever 59 can also be locked in a given position (shown in phantom in fig. 3) by means of the latching (62, 63), the slide 48 then being held in a retracted position such that the cutter 44 is moved away from the part 10. A finger 67, fixed to the vertical slide 46 and capable, when the latter reaches its upper position, of lifting the lever 64 so as to release the stud 63 of pin 62, controls the release of lever 59.
As seen in fig. 3, the various parts of the tool holder described are shown in solid lines in the position they occupy when the part 10 is immobilized in a determined position and the milling cutter 44 will start a machining operation in this part. The roller 53 rests on the top of a nose of the cam 51 and the hand lever 52 holds the slide 46 in its upper position, so that the cutter 44 is located higher than the part 10.
The finger 67 has released the snap (62, 63), so that the lever 59 is released and the slide 48 is in its anterior position, the plane of the front face of the cutter 44 being at a distance of the axis of the part 10 which is exactly adjusted by the position of the screw 66. The roller 68 of the rod 56 bears against a recess 70 of the lever 59, which keeps this rod slightly apart from its rest position. The roller 53 then descends along the first nose of the cam 51, so that the lever 52 pivots downwards and the slide 46 descends. During this movement, the roller 68 rolls against the edge of the lever 59.
The spring 57 being weaker than those which request the horizontal slide 48, the connecting rod -56 pivots more or less and its roller 68 follows the lever 59, so that the latter remains stationary and the cutter performs a strictly rectilinear displacement , by milling a flat face in the part 10. Before the roller 53 reaches the hollow of the cam 51, the roller 68 passes over a boss 71 of the lever 59 and leaves this lever completely. The rod 56 can therefore pivot under the action of the spring 57 and come to rest against the. spout 58 of lever 52.
When the roller 53 reaches the hollow of the cam 51, the milling operation is finished. Spindle 12 then begins to perform a quarter turn rotation. During this time, the roller 53 rises along the next nose of the cam 51. The roller 68 then abuts against an oblique lower face 72 of the lever 59 and causes the latter to pivot which, by its support surface 61 and the screw 65, drives the slide 48 backwards. The cutter 44 thus describes an oblique upward movement, until the moment when the roller 68 reaches the boss 71 of the lever 59.
This lever is then in the position shown in phantom and the snap (62, 63) blocks it in this position. The roller 53, continuing to rise along the second nose of the cam 51, continues to pivot the lever 52 upwards, so that the slide 46 continues its upward stroke, which results in a vertical displacement of the cutter. 44. This displacement continues until the roller 53 by almost comes to the top of the second beak of the cam 51. At this moment, the finger 67 causes the lever 59 to unclip.
The slide 48, released, is returned by its springs to its initial position, so that a new partial cycle of operations can take place.
The cam 51 described thus makes it possible to mill in the part 10 four flat faces oriented 900 from each other and all located at a determined distance from the axis of this part. Once these four milling operations have been completed, the clamp control cam 11 causes the latter to open and the finished part 10 is ejected, the clamp 11 being ready to receive a new part brought by the conveyor 6 .
The lathe described can therefore be used, for example to automatically mill the squares of the winding stems or of the barrel shafts. These squares can be obtained without any recovery operation, thus avoiding the sorting and cleaning operations which would then be necessary. In addition, the tower described is of conventional construction. The workpiece carrier and the auxiliary tool carrier are mounted directly on the frame of the lathe and are controlled by cams wedged on the usual camshaft, so that the lathe described does not require any special execution of its essential parts.
