Sleeve for launching a grenade using a firearm The sleeve, object of the main patent, consists of a tubular element intended to be engaged on the barrel of the weapon and arranged in such a way that it can be detached from it at the start of the shot, this element comprising means intended to ensure its projection forward following the grenade, when the shot starts, at a reduced speed compared to that animating the latter.
This sleeve, more particularly intended for launching grenades by means of a firearm, the barrel of which is provided with a muzzle brake or a similar device, constitutes both a blunderbuss on which the tail of the gun is fitted. grenade and a shutter intended to at least partially mask the vents of said muzzle brake. Said tubular element may be cylindrical and have, in its inner wall, a projection constituting both a stop determining the position of the element on the barrel of the weapon, and a support on which the pressure tends to be exerted. a part of the propellant gases in order to ensure the projection of said element forwards.
The present addition relates to a sleeve as defined above, which is characterized by the fact that it further comprises an additional propellant charge. It is thus possible to significantly increase the initial speed of the grenade and, consequently, the firing distance, by obtaining an increased efficiency of the gases produced by the extra charge, the relative displacement of the telescopic elements formed by the tail. of the grenade, the sleeve and the barrel of the weapon making it possible to extend beyond the limits reached by the fixed sleeves the length of the expansion chamber of the propellant gases at the start of the grenade. The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, one embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a longitudinal section of a sleeve supporting a grenade and placed on the barrel of a firearm provided with a muzzle brake. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of a variant. Fig. 1 shows the end of the barrel 1 of an automatic rifle, this barrel being provided with a muzzle brake comprising a series of vents 2. The launching of anti-tank, anti-personnel, smoke grenades, etc., by means of a such weapon, is carried out using a tubular sleeve 3 retained inside the tail of each of said grenades and which is intended to be fitted with gentle friction on the barrel 1 so as to hide said vents 2.
The internal wall of the sleeve 3 has a collar 4 intended to abut the end of the barrel 1 in order to determine the position of the sleeve on its support. Said sleeve further comprises two retaining devices - constituted by elastic rings 3a, 3b, engaged in corresponding annular grooves, the first being able to ensure the maintenance of the sleeve on the barrel in all the circumstances imposed by field shooting, in particular the shot from top to bottom and, the second, the fixing of said sleeve inside the tail 5 of the grenade.
When firing, the assembly formed by the grenade and the sleeve, the latter already being retained inside the tail 5 by the elastic ring 3b, is fitted onto the barrel 1 (fig. 1). From

Suddenly, most of the propellant gases from the cartridge, resting on the bottom of the tail 5 of the grenade, causes the latter to project forward. A small part of the gas, however, resting on the rear face of the collar 4 of the sleeve 3, tends to project said sleeve also forward, the speed driving the latter being however extremely reduced compared to that conferred on the sleeve. grenade.
In order to significantly increase the initial speed of the grenade and, therefore, the firing distance without modifying the charge of the propellant cartridge, the sleeve 3 is provided with a capsule 6 containing an additional propellant charge 7. This capsule is introduced by forcing into the front part of the sleeve 3 and bears against the front face of the collar 4. At the start of the blow, the gases produced by the charge 7 are added to those coming from the cartridge.
The arrangement described above makes it possible in particular to increase the efficiency of the gases produced by the extra charge, the relative displacement of the telescopic elements formed by the tail of the grenade, the sleeve and the barrel of the weapon making it possible to lengthen beyond the limits reached by the fixed sleeves, the length of the expansion chamber of the propellant gases from the grenade. All the powder forming said charge 7 burns while said elements are still fitted one on top of the other; all of the gases it produces are used to propel the grenade.
In the variant of FIG. 2, the collar 4 is formed by a separate metal ring, made integral with the sleeve 3 by crimping.
