The present invention relates to a device for progressive speed variation by belt passing over pulleys with progressively variable diameter, used in the control of machine parts, machines- tools in particular.
Its purpose, in order to avoid the faults of the known commands, to achieve a reliable, flexible, fast, precise command, requiring only a low operating effort, example of reactions on the command members and capable of long operation without noticeable wear.
For this purpose, according to the invention, the device comprises a mechanism which varies the winding diameters of the belt, this mechanism being actuated by a pressurized fluid, which acts for each pulley in a closed space of variable volume. integral with this pulley, the quantity of fluid present in this enclosed space being regulated by a distributor with a pilot control member cooperating with a follower element, the position of which is consistent with that of members on which the winding diameters of the belt on said pulleys.
In a particular embodiment of the positive device applied to pulleys for zoidal trapezoidal belts comprising two cheeks movable axially with respect to each other under the action of a piston moved by a pressurized fluid and integral with the 'one of said cheeks, said piston constitutes said follower element and a sliding valve distributor is formed by the cooperation of said follower piston with a pilot control member arranged coaxially and sliding and which has longitudinal channels,
respectively for the arrival of pressurized fluid and its evacuation.
In another embodiment of the progressive speed variation device, a single pulley comprises a control member for varying its diameter, the other pulley having its two cheeks permanently biased towards each other by a force axial, said axial force is produced by a pressurized fluid coming from the same power source as the pressurized fluid acting on the other pulley,
and the urging area of said fluid is less than the urging area of the fluid in the other pulley.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the device of the subject of the invention. . In this drawing, fig. 1 shows a longitudinal section of said device; fig. 2 is a schematic view of the entire device with an operating linkage. In the embodiment of the device shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, we see a cheek 1, provided with a tubular extension 2 -with bore 3 which is keyed and blocked on the conical end of a shaft 4 of the electric motor 5.
On this tubular extension 2 are machined grooves 6 on which a cheek 7 is centered, with corresponding grooves, provided with two fingers 8 which pass through grooves 9 of sufficient length, and engage in holes drilled in a piston 10 which can slide, with gentle friction, in the bore 3. This piston 10, carrying a seal ring # 11, has a central bore 12, blind, and it is drilled lengthwise by a suitable number of holes 14 which open into an internal groove 15, delimited by faces 16 and 17.
The piston 10 can abut on a disc 18, having a bore of the same diameter as the bore 12, and which is tightly centered in the bore 3; this disc 18 is stopped longitudinally by a ring, and it is provided with two sealing rings 20 and 21.
In the bore of the disc 18 and in the bore 12 of the piston 10 engages, with gentle friction, and in a sealed manner, a distributor 22, traversed by an axial hole 23, and pierced with longitudinal holes 24 which lead to blockage. , - on the one hand, in an outer groove 25 and, on the other hand, in an inner groove 28 in which a threaded hole 29 ends, on which is connected the tube 60, partially flexible, which brings the liquid under pressure.
-The groove 25 and the end of the distributor 22 are separated by a cylindrical part, delimited by faces 26 and 27, the length of this cylindrical part corresponding to the width of the groove 15, or slightly greater, preferably . At the end of the distributor 22 is mounted a tube 31, partly flexible, intended for returning the liquid to a tank 32 where it will be taken up in order, after filtering, to reenter the pressure circuit.
The sliding of the distributor 22 is controlled by a lever 33 oscillating about an axis 34 and is connected by a rod 35 to a lever 36 moving on a graduated sector 37. The distributor 22 is stopped in rotation by its control lever 33. or by any other means, such that the piston 10, the disc 18, and the whole of the device will rotate with respect to it, moreover without exerting any effort, and under abundant lubrication, the liquid under pressure used being oil, preferably.
The cheeks 1 and 7 constitute a driving pulley on which is wound a trapezoidal belt 38 which passes over a receiving pulley constituted by a cheek 39 integral with a = shaft 41 which drives in rotation, by splines, a cheek 40 which slides on him. This shaft 41 may have a displacement following its axis, of sufficient length to allow the pulley formed by the cheeks 39 and 40 to follow the lateral displacements of the belt 38 during the variation of its winding diameters.
The shaft 41 is bored over a sufficient length and it rotates in bearings 44 and 45, carried by flanges 46 and 47 of the frame. A pinion 48, wedged on the shaft 41, meshes with a wheel 49 which will, for example, be mounted on the spindle of the machine (not shown).
A piston 51, provided with a sealing ring 50, slides smoothly in the bore of the shaft 41 and is connected to the cheek 40 by fingers 53 which pass through grooves 54, formed in this effect, so that any longitudinal displacement of the piston 51 will cause that of the cheek 40. The shaft 41 is closed at the end by a bottom 55, carrying a sealing ring 56, and it is stopped in position by a rush.
The piston 51 is crossed by an axial bore 58 in which passes a tube 59, coming from a fitting 52, which engages therein, with sufficient sealing, but freely, preferably; the connector 52 is in communication, by a tube 42, with the source of pressurized liquid (not shown).
The useful surface of the piston 51 is smaller than the useful surface of the piston 10. The operation takes place as follows: The electric motor 5 controls, via the shaft 4, the rotation of the driving pulley, with flanges 1 and 7. This rotation is transmitted by the zoidal V-belt 38 to the receiving pulley, with flanges 39 and 40. The pressurized liquid arrives through the tubes 42 and 60 and fills the pipes and the spaces between the piston 10 and the bottom formed by the disc 18 and between piston 51 and base 55.
The lever 36, the rod 35 and the lever 33 control the distributor 22, the sliding of which will determine or allow the displacement or the stopping of the piston 10 as follows. In the position of FIG. 1, the cylindrical part of the distributor 22, delimited by the cheeks 26 and 27, closes the groove 15, delimited by the faces 16 and 17. If, starting from this position, the distributor 22 moves to the right, the edge of the face 27 reveals the edge of the face 16 thus establishing communication between the source of the liquid under pressure and the face of the piston 10 via the tubes and channels 14, 24 and 60.
The piston 10 then receives a thrust to the right which is transmitted to the cheek of the pulley 7 by the fingers 8; this thrust is balanced by the thrust of the same force and in the opposite direction, which acts on the disc 18, which reflects it on the cheek 1, so that the belt 38 is caught between two equal and opposite forces. The distributor 22 stopped, the pressure exerted on the piston 10 moves it until the edge of the face 16, of the groove 15, comes flush with the edge of the face 27 of the distributor 22; the piston 10 stops and the incompressible liquid prevents its movement to the left.
If the distributor 22 moves to the left, the edge of its face 26 uncovers the edge of the face 17 of the groove 15, which puts the space between the piston 10 and the disc 18, the holes 14, in communication with the central hole 23 and the tube 31, and allows, under the pressure of the piston 10, the evacuation without appreciable pressure of the liquid in the tank 32. When the distributor 22 stops its stroke to the left, the piston 10 can continue its movement in the same direction until the edge of face 16, of groove 15, aligns with the edge of face 26 of the distributor and thus closes groove 15, which stops piston 10.
It can be seen that any movement to the right or to the left of the distributor corresponds to a precise position of the piston 10, thus slaved to its movement.
The belt 38, which passes between the cheeks 1 and 7 of the driving pulley, has a constant length and winds over the receiving pulley with cheeks 39 and 40. The pressurized liquid which arrives through the tube 42 is led through the tube. 59 and the bore 58 between the piston 51 and the base 55 on which it exerts a substantially equal force and in the opposite direction; that which pushes on the piston 51 is transmitted by the fingers 53 to the cheek 40 and that which acts on the bottom 55 has repercussions on the cheek 39, so that the roie court 38 is tightened, by the cheeks 39 and 40, by two opposing forces.
The intensity of the forces which tighten the belt 38 depends, at equal pressure, on the useful surface of the pis tons 10 and 51; the piston 10 having, by construction, a useful surface greater than the useful surface of the piston 51, the tightening which it causes on the belt 38 will be greater than that created by the piston 51.
On the other hand, as a result of the effect of the distributor 22, the force exerted on the piston 10 may either correspond to its surface and to the pressure received, or be eliminated when the distributor 22 closes off the inlet. liquid under pressure, thus blocking the udder 10, or even be canceled when it allows the evacuation of said liquid to the tank 32.
When the distributor 22 authorizes the evacuation of the liquid towards the tank 32, the pressure exerted by the cheeks 1 and 7 on the belt 38 is canceled, while its tightening, by the cheeks 39 and 40 on its inclined sides, is still maintained, which forces it to move away from the center of rotation by increasing its winding diameter and, its length being constant, that it necessarily reduces its winding diameter on the driving pulley whose cheek 7 s 'moves away from the cheek 1 and drives the piston 10 which delivers the liquid through the holes 14, 23 and the tube 31, towards the tank 32.
The belt 38 thus brought to the winding of maximum diameter on the receiving pulley with flanges 39 and 40 and at the smallest possible diameter on the driving pulley with flanges 1 and 7, passing progressively through all the intermediate diameters, gives the reduction minimum between shafts 2 and 41. If, in this position, the distributor 22 is moved to the right of the figure, the pressurized liquid, as already explained, arrives between the piston 10 and the disc 18, and creates the forces tightening the reaction of which on the faces of the belt 38 are greater, as has been said above, than those created on said belt 38 by the effect of the pressure between the piston 51 and the base 55.
As a result of this dif ference of action, the cheeks 1 and 7 will come closer, and the belt, of constant length, is pulled and gradually moves aside, against the thrust of the piston 51, the cheeks 39 and 40_ of the receiving pulley, passing through all intermediate winding diameters, up to the min mum winding diameter as shown in fia. 1 and 2.
Each position of distributor 22 determines, as explained above, a corresponding position of piston 10 and stabilizes belt 38 at a winding which will give a defined rotational speed ratio between shafts 4 and 41; this position of the distributor will advantageously be marked on a sector such as 37, or the like, with calibrated graduation, single or multiple, to give a suitable indication of the speed of the receiving shaft, or of the spindle of the machine.
The thrust on the piston 51, produced by the pressurized liquid, will be combined, with advantage, with an elastic thrust, of increasing intensity with the separation of the cheeks 39 and 40; it will suffice, for this, to have a spring (not shown), between the udder 51 and the bottom 55, concentrically to the axis.
It will be advantageous, in order to supply the device described with fluid under pressure, to use a pump comprising a discharge valve, so as to maintain the liquid under pressure. substantially constant, in the hydraulic circuit, despite the possible leaks which will tend to increase with wear, so that the good functioning and the efficiency of the control will remain unchanged during a long period of use.
The foregoing description shows that the forces generated by the pressurized liquid in the device in question are suitably balanced and do not exert any harmful reaction outside the system. Use will be made, with advantage, of the lubricating oil of the machine, comprising the device described, as a pressurized motor liquid, which will have the advantage of ensuring effective lubrication and will prevent any significant wear.
The effort for controlling the speed ratio variations is reduced to the effort required to move the distributor 22, which only opposes a very low resistance to its movement which may be slow or fast, ie to the right. , either to the left of the figure by determining a gradual, slow or accelerated change of gear ratio, as required.
