La fig. 6 représente une variante de la tige de chauffage. La tige de chauffage 42' représentée sur cette figure peut être substituée à la tige de chauf fage 42 de la fig. 1 ; elle est étudiée pour faciliter l'opération d'enfilage. Un bras de guidage 64' est disposé à proximité de la périphérie de la tige 42' pour guider une extrémité de fil et pour l'amener en contact avec la surface de la tige ;
Apparatus for imparting elastic nature to a moving thermoplastic yarn The present invention relates to an apparatus for imparting an elastic nature to a moving thermoplastic yarn.
An apparatus for the same purpose is already known. This apparatus comprises a flattened strip or heating plate, over which the wire is passed to bring it to a high temperature, and a sharp-edged blade disposed near the heating strip, so as to pass the hot wire over this ridge to make it follow a path forming an acute angle. The known apparatus has the disadvantage that it does not include any convenient means for varying the voltage imparted to the wire by its contact with the heating element.
In some cases it is extremely desirable that the contact of the wire with the heating strip impart appreciable tension thereto; in other cases, on the contrary, it is desired that a very low voltage be transmitted to the wire by its contact with the heating element. Furthermore, the known apparatus does not always allow low denier yarns to arrive on the heating plate with a tension low enough to allow adequate contact, taking into account the desired degree of heating, without the yarn being subjected to excessively high tension as it comes in contact with the sharp edge.
Another drawback of the known apparatus consists in the fact that in certain cases it only achieves an inadequate regulation of the tension, in particular when treating threads of a very low denier.
The apparatus which is the object of the present invention is free from the mentioned drawbacks. This apparatus comprises a wire feed means, a wire collection means, a blade provided with a sharp edge, a guide means suitable for guiding around the edge of the blade, in a V path, the wire passing from the supply means to the collecting means, and a heating means suitable for heating the wire so that it is hot when in contact with the edge of the blade.
It is characterized by a first means for advancing the wire suitable for acting on the wire prior to its contact with the edge of the blade and for advancing the wire at a first given linear speed, and by a second means for advancing the wire. wire suitable for acting on the wire subsequently in its contact with the edge of the blade and for advancing the wire at a second linear speed which is lower than said first linear speed.
A preferred embodiment of the object of the invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the appended drawing, in which FIG. 1 is a plan view of part of the device limited to two workstations making it possible to independently treat two threads. Fig. 2 is a section taken along line II - II of FIG. 1. FIG. 3 is a schematic view of the gears of a supercharging device of the apparatus.
Fig. 4 is a schematic view showing the path of a wire as well as the electrical circuit of a heating rod.
Fig. 5 is a large-scale, perspective view of a blade holder.
Fig. 6 is an enlarged view of a variant of the heating rod. The apparatus shown comprises a frame 10; this frame comprises a first horizontal support member 11 carrying several supply spools 12, which each supply one end of wire to each of the stations of the apparatus.
One end of wire 13 supplied by each of the spools 12 is drawn through a guide member 14, which is arranged along the axis of the spool so that the wire can be easily withdrawn from one end thereof. ; this end of wire 13 then passes through a tension device 15 fixed to a member 16 of the frame.
The voltage device 15 is a voltage regulator of the type described in Patent No. 331807, since, as will be explained in more detail later, the use of an efficient voltage regulator enables the use of the voltage regulator. apparatus with a greater number of different types of wires; however, for most types of yarns, the tensioning device 15 may be of any common type, since it is ordinarily only used to give the yarn a slight pre-tension. before it arrives at a device intended to make it elastic.
A yarn supercharger 17 allows the yarn to contract by a selected amount while the elasticization is taking place. This supercharging device 17 comprises a casing 18 comprising a support 19 fixed to a member 20 of the frame by a bolt 21. A rotary shaft 22 passes through the casing 18 and can journal in bearings (not shown); a spur gear 23 is carried by the shaft 22 inside the housing 18.
This wheel 23 drives an intermediate toothed wheel 24, which in turn drives a larger toothed wheel 25 carried by a shaft 27; this shaft also passes through the housing 18 and extends outside the latter at each of its ends. The wheel 25 drives a small intermediate wheel 28, which meshes with a spur gear 29, wedged on a third shaft 30; this shaft pivots in the walls of the housing 18 and extends at each end outside of it. A cylindrical roller 31, having a smooth thread engaging surface, is attached to one end of the shaft 27 and cooperates with a small roller 32 attached to the shaft 30 to draw the thread in a manner that is we will explain later.
The roller 31 has a larger diameter than the roller 32, but the ratio of the gear trains is such that the small roller 32 is driven at a greater angular speed of rotation and sufficient for the two rollers to have substantially the same speed. peripheral. A roller 33 for supercharging and engaging the wire is mounted on the shaft 27, at the end opposite to that where the roller 31 is located; this roller 33 rotates at the same angular speed as the roller 31, but it has a larger diameter than the latter so as to have a greater peripheral speed.
The housing 18 is provided with a triangular and vertical support 34, which carries two small pigtail yarn guides 35 and 37. A control rod 38 enters the housing 18 through the support 34; this rod is connected to a clutch (not shown) which enables the toothed wheel 23 to be released from the toothed wheel 24, in order to start and stop each individual station. A support arm 39 extends upward from housing 18; it carries a small idler pulley 40, which serves as a guide as will be explained later.
Two supports 41, only one of which has been shown, are carried by the member 16 of the frame and extend transversely with respect to the longitudinal axis of this member. A heating rod 42 extends through bores formed in the support members 41; it is insulated from them and has a diameter between 0.8 mm and 12.7 mm; this rod is preferably made of an alloy, such as that sold under the name Nichrome, having a relatively high electrical resistivity .
Heating rod 42 is shown to extend through only two stations, but it may be of such a length that it passes through an entire side of a bending machine; its small surface, in comparison with it of a wide and flat band, causes only a very low heat loss. A compression spring 43 is mounted on one end of the rod 42; one of its ends is placed against the support member 41, and its other end is applied against an electrically non-conductive washer 44, made of resin-impregnated fabric.
The spring 43 is compressed by a nut 45 resting against the washer 44 and screwed onto the end of the heating rod 42. This arrangement causes tension in the rod 42 and allows the latter to expand when it is is heated, without flexing under the effect of its weight.
One end of the heating rod 42 is electrically connected, via a conductor 47, with a voltage reducing transformer 48. This transformer 48 supplies electrical power to the rod 42 at a sufficiently low voltage, less than about 30 volts, so that the rod does not risk electrocuting personnel. The transformer 48 is connected by conductors 49 to a variable ratio transformer 50, itself connected to a source of electrical energy through a switch 51 and conductors 52. The other end of the heating rod 42 is electrically grounded by member 41 of the frame, one terminal of transformer 48 being grounded as seen at 53, in order to close the electrical circuit.
Several supports 60 are carried by the member 16 of the frame; on each of these supports is fixed a small plate 61 provided with a suitable bore 62 intended for the passage of the heating rod 42. These supports 60 are made of metal, but the plates 61 are made of fabric impregnated with resin, so as to be insulation and do not short-circuit the heating rod by touching it. A long arm 63, comprising a curved and insert part 64 resistant to wear, porcelain, extends from each support 60 (Fig. 5).
The insert and curved 64 has a radius of curvature which corresponds approximately to that of the periphery of the heating rod 42; it is placed very close to the rod 42, so as to guide one end of the wire coming from the supercharging roller 33 and coming into contact with the heating element. A small support arm 65, carrying a guide pulley 67, is also carried by each support 60; the latter also carries another arm 68, serving as a support for a flattened blade 69 comprising a sharp edge disposed near the heating rod.
The blade 69 is preferably attached in an adjustable manner to the arm 68, so that the distance between its sharp edge and the heating rod can be adjusted for the best results.
A common slider and ring device 70, intended to collect the wire, is shown schematically in FIG. 4. It is of course understood, however, that any ordinary yarn collecting device can be used and that this device need not cause the yarn to twist.
To use the apparatus shown, one end of the wire is passed, from the spool 12, through the guide 14 and the tension regulating device 15, then over the roller 33 of the supercharging device 17. It is wound up. the end of the wire about a turn and a half around the roller 33, then it is passed over the added and rounded part 64 of the arm 63. It is then wound half a turn or even more on the rod heating 42 and is passed over the blade 69 carried by the support 60 which is located immediately to the right of the support 60 of the arm 63 over which the wire passes (Figs. 1 and 4).
The supports 60 must be placed so that the distance between the arm 63 of one support and the blade 69 of the adjacent support is at least sufficient for the wire to be adequately heated, without the need for rod of excessive cross section; this distance should generally not be less than a value between 2.5 and 5 cm. On the contrary, it is generally advantageous to give this distance a value greater than about 50 cm, unless one is dealing with wires of a considerable diameter.
The number of turns that the wire must make on the heating rod depends entirely on the value of the tension which must be imposed on the wire by its contact with the heating element, as will be explained in more detail later.
After its contact with the heating element, the wire passes over the sharp edge of the blade 69, then extends parallel to the heating element to arrive on the guide pulley 67 carried by the support 60 carrying the part. reported and rounded 64 over which the thread passes. The end of the wire is then passed through the guide 37, and it is wound a certain number of turns on the rollers 31, 32, which serve to draw the wire at a constant speed with respect to the speed. power supply.
Then, the end of the wire is passed over the pulley 40 to bring it to the collection device 70; the temperature of the heating element is brought to an appropriate value, by adjusting the transformer 50. Finally, the apparatus is turned on.
The apparatus described is only suitable for certain threads, such as nylon threads, which contract when heated, since if the thread does not contract when heated, the supercharger provides a surplus of thread which prevents operation. correct device. On the contrary, with wires contracting on heating, the supercharger achieves excellent voltage control.
The tension of the yarn, before it reaches the feed roll 33, normally fluctuates because the resistance encountered varies as the yarn unwinds from the feed winding 12, but these fluctuations are eliminated by the boost roller 33 and the only tension existing in the wire, immediately after. its passage around this roller is the tension resulting from the contraction of the thread under the influence of heat.
Since it has been observed that the tension due to the tension of the wire remains substantially constant, even with slight variations in the degree of overfeeding and in the temperature of heating of the wire, it is seen that the supercharging device allows extremely low, but uniform, which are outside the range that can generally be obtained with common voltage regulating devices.
The best results are generally obtained with the supercharging device, when the diameter of the feed roller 33, compared with that of the take-off roller 31, is such that it can give the maximum supercharging that can be achieved without the wire. take some slack. Thus, the yarn can be contracted to the maximum extent possible and it has been found that a higher degree of elasticity is then obtained than by any other means.
If the overfeeding of the wire allows it to reach the blade with too little tension, it is generally preferable to increase the tension of the wire at this point by increasing the number of turns of the wire on the heating rod, rather than reducing the degree of overeating.
The degree to which supercharging can be achieved while preventing the yarn from taking up slack will naturally vary with different types of yarn, but almost any type of yarn can be accommodated by changing the dimensions of the feed roller. 33, and it has been found that a range of rollers sufficient to provide 1-15% boost is generally adequate.
In other words, the diameter of the feed roll 33 is 1 to 15% greater than the diameter of the roll 31. For any chosen type of wire, one can try to use the device with the larger one. roll, and if the yarn refuses to follow, the dimensions of the roll can be gradually reduced until a satisfactory roll is found.
It has been found that about 10% overfeeding generally gives the best results with <Nylon Du Pont type 200 yarns.
The booster device not only allows the thread to come to the heating element with low and uniform tension, so that the thread can contract to the maximum, but also allows the thread tension to be easily adjusted, when the thread tension is reached. -this passes over the sharp edge, increasing or reducing the friction of the wire on the heating element.
This supercharging device is particularly advantageous with very small denier yarns, since the tension that must be maintained in these yarns to obtain the best results is extremely low, even after the yarn has come into contact with the sharp edge. , and that a uniformly low tension in the yarn, before it comes into contact with the heating element, is not only advantageous, but absolutely necessary as explained above.
By virtue of the supercharging device described above, the tension of the wire, before its contact with the heating element, may be too low to be able to be measured with precision and may however be maintained at a very uniform value, as can be expected. see it from the quality of the yarn produced.
Fig. 6 shows a variant of the heating rod. The heating rod 42 'shown in this figure can be substituted for the heating rod 42 of FIG. 1; it is designed to facilitate the threading operation. A guide arm 64 'is disposed near the periphery of the rod 42' to guide a wire end and to bring it into contact with the surface of the rod;
a blade 69 ', having a sharp edge, is disposed at an appropriate distance from the arm 64' and is also located very close to the periphery of the heating rod. A rotary sleeve 75 is carried by the rod 42 ', between the arm 64' and the blade 69 '; this sleeve is of the split type, so that it can be applied inside a peripheral groove of the rod 42 ', with its exterior surface at the level of the surface of the heating rod. This sleeve 75 clamps the heating rod 42 'with a force sufficient not to be able to turn accidentally, but insufficient to prevent it from rotating when desired.
Several short pins 76 extend radially from sleeve 75; these pins have a polished surface cooperating with the wire. To proceed with (threading, it is not necessary to pass the thread by hand around the heating rod; it is better to bring the end of the thread from the arm 64 ', place it on one of the pins 76, then pass it around blade 69 '.
To adjust the tension imposed on the wire by its friction on the heating rod 42 ', it is then sufficient to rotate the sleeve 75 so as to increase or decrease the total arc following which the wire is in contact with the surface of the wire. heating rod. It is evident that the contact of the wire with the pin 76 also contributes to the tensioning the wire to some extent, so that the wire can be brought into contact with the heating rod over a total arc smaller than that of the wire. absence of the sleeve 75, to finally apply a given voltage to it.
