La fig. 3 montre une autre forme d'exécution selon laquelle le joint comporte deux éléments an nulaires de fixation 11, 12, cette forme d'exécution étant, de préférence, utilisée lorsque l'exécution d'une gorge de talon unique risquerait d'affaiblir exagé rément la partie tournante ;

Fig. 21 shows the seal fitted onto the shaft before assembly and FIG. 22 after final assembly; the seal is obtained for low fluid pressure and high continuous rotation. Figs. 23 and 24 represent the same gasket under the same pressure, but rotating at an average speed. Fig. 23 shows the seal simply fitted onto the shaft and fig. 24 the seal definitively fitted.

Figs. 30, 31 and 32 show seals having the same advantages as those of FIGS. 27 and 28 in the case where the fluid pressure is applied in the other direction.
Figs. 33 and 34 respectively show a variant of the seal shown in FIG. 29 and one embodiment of the device having this seal.
Figs. 35 and 36 respectively show a seal of the same design as that of the preceding figures, and an embodiment of the device provided with this seal.
Fig. 37 relates to a final embodiment of the device.
The sealing device shown in FIG. 1 comprises a seal 1 comprising an annular fastening element 2 housed with tension in a circular housing 3 formed in a shaft 4, while a friction seal part is constituted by a lip 5 comprising a double semi-toric corrugation 6, 7, which rubs against a plastic or other ring 8.
To increase the effect of the centrifugal force and press the lip on the ring 8, a flexible collar connecting the annular element to the friction part comprises an internal spring 9 formed of a blade cut so as to form a succession of teeth 10 (fig. 2).
Fig. 3 shows another embodiment according to which the seal comprises two annular fixing elements 11, 12, this embodiment preferably being used when the execution of a single heel groove would risk weakening excessively reent the rotating part;
the V-shaped seal comprises, for this purpose, a part 13 forming a sleeve on the rotating shaft, on which the two fixing elements are formed and in which a part 14 of the spring cut along successive teeth is housed , the spring also comprises a part 15 which extends in the collar up to the lip 16. There is shown, in FIGS. 4 and 5, the joint of a variant.
This seal 17 is V-shaped and has, on the internal face of the flange connecting the fixing element to the lip, corrugations 18 intended to bear on the fluid contained in the casing and to separate the lip and the lip. thus apply against the wall of the housing. The variant of the seal of FIG. 6 is provided with a spring 19 keeping the collar 20 apart.
The embodiment of FIG. 7 has a seal provided with a heel 21 and a lip 22 connected by a flexible collar; this seal provides the external seal by the O-ring end of the lip 22 which is applied in the angle formed by a cylindrical wall of a housing 23 and a circular tongue 24, the lip being tensioned, arc- abutment in a way between the two supports.
A variant of the seal comprising two heels 21a and 2-1b, still embedded in the tower part, has been shown in fig. 8.
All the seals previously described with reference to figs. 1 to 8 relate to embodiments of the device ensuring a seal without fluid pressure or with low pressure.
Fig. 9 shows, in section, an embodiment comprising a seal providing the seal between a rotating part 32 carrying a groove 32a in which an annular heel 33 is mounted in tension, and a fixed part 34 which receives in a bore 35 a rubbing lip 36. The heel 33 and the book 36 are connected by a flexible collar containing a spring 37 giving the seal the necessary tension.
Such a seal is capable of withstanding a fluid pressure exerted along arrow F.
The friction of the rotating lip 36 against the fixed wall of the housing can be well attenuated if the bearing faces are rectified or if these faces are those of a plastic ring embedded in the housing.
Fig. 10 shows a variant of the device shown in FIG. 9, the seal of which has two heels 38, 39 mounted in tension on the rotating part instead of just one.
All the seals previously described with reference to figs. 1 to 10 are rotating. Their mounting necessitates the execution in the rotating part of circular housings of the heel (s) of the joints. However, cases could arise where these grooves could not be made. It is then possible to produce embodiments of the device using joints which are no longer rotating; without providing the total effectiveness of those described above, these seals are however much superior to common lip seals in applications where the seal must be obtained without fluid pressure.
Thus, there is shown in FIG. 11 an embodiment of the device having a non-rotating joint 40, the heel 41 of which is embedded in a fixed part 42 and the rubbing part of which is a double corrugation 43, 44 applying against the cylindrical surface 45 of the rotating part. This com seal carries a laminated spring 46, 46 ', shown in plan in FIG. 12, giving the latter the desired tightening tension.
Fig. 13 is a variant of the device comprising a V-shaped seal comprising two fixing heels 47, 48 instead of one, embedded in grooves 49, 50 of the fixed part; this seal comprises a laminated spring 51, 51 'also re curved in the form of V.
Naturally, to determine the particular characteristics of the seal of each sealing device, it is necessary to take into account the conditions of use, in particular the speed of rotation and the pressure of the fluid.
These conditions of use will determine in particular: the importance of the mounting tension of the binding heel, the tightening value of the spring included in the collar of the seal, the length of this collar which must be more or less flexible.
The corrugations made on the internal part of the seal flange according to fig. 4 to 6 can be replaced by any other form of realization with equivalent action to apply the friction part against the cylindrical wall of the seal housing. Protrusions in the form, for example, of turbine fins, oriented for a determined direction of rotation, or of inclined blades, can be provided in this direction.
In all of the aforementioned joints, circular grooves or grooves are provided which will retain the oil and ensure the supply of the film.
Figs. 14 to 20 show, by way of example, various embodiments.
Figs. 14, 15 show the rubbing parts of seals provided with circular grooves 52, while FIG. 16 shows an arrangement where the grooves 53 are made on the fixed part in contact with said rubbing parts of the seal.
Figs. 17 and 19 show seals whose friction part is notched with a V-shaped groove 54, while FIGS. 18 and 20 show seals for which the grooves 55 are hollowed out in the fixed part in contact with the rubbing part of the seal.
The grooves will be fed by perforations or notches made in the rubbing parts with or without removal of material, the number of which will correspond to the particular conditions of use which will require a more or less fed film. These perforations or straight notches 56 (Fig. 15) or inclined 57 (Fig. 16) are preferably made in the first lip or lips of the friction part on the fluid side, without affecting the sealing of the seal.
Simpler embodiments of seals, however, ensuring perfect sealing for fluids at low pressure have been shown in FIGS. 21 to 37. Referring more particularly to the sealing device of FIGS. 21 and 22, it can be seen that the seal comprises on one of the branches two fixing toroids 58 and 59, and on the other branch an O-ring lip 62 constituting the rubbing part. The two toroids 58, 59 are fitted by tension in a groove 60 of a shaft 61, ensuring centering and sealing: the position shown in dotted lines represents the shape of the seal before mounting on the rotation shaft 61.
The toric lip 62 seals by friction on a fixed part 63. FIG. 22 shows the position of the seal after final assembly: in this position, the lip 62 is applied against the fixed part 63 by the pressure P of the fluid, the effect of the centrifugal force on the lip 62, the mass of which has been determined in consequence and the elasticity of the hinge 64. A channel 65, pierced in the lip 62, allows the fluid located in the cavity 66 to be renewed under the effect of the thrust due to the centrifugal force, thus ensuring cooling. correctness of the rubbing lip 62.
The low inclination of the part 64 of the seal relative to the axis of rotation makes it possible to make the lip 62 relatively insensitive to the centrifugal force and therefore to use it for high speeds of rotation of the shaft 61.
Figs. 23 and 24 show a sealing device provided with a seal of the same type as the previous one: the hinge 64 is more inclined on the rotation shaft 61 and the friction surface 67 is inclined. The contact pressure of the lip 62 on the bearing surface 67 is therefore much more sensitive to the speed of rotation. This seal will preferably be used for medium speeds.
Figs. 25 and 26 show an embodiment of the device having a seal specially designed for low rotational speeds: for this purpose, the rubbing part is a lip 62 bevelled 68, so as to have a better contact surface. A variant of this arrangement is shown in FIG. 26 where two bi-buckets 69 and 70 have been arranged in the lip 62 so as to improve the seal by creating an oil segment in the cavity 71 between the two bevels 69 and 70; we can obviously multiply the bevels.
Figs. 27 and 28 show, after fitting onto the shaft 61, two seals designed to obtain better centering of the seal on the shaft. To this end, the central part of the seal has only one fixing torus 59 at one end, the other part being formed by a bore 72, reinforced if necessary by an incorporated blade, elastic or not 73, and ensuring a better guiding of the seal on the shaft 61 and the necessary sealing.
The pressure P of the fluid and the centrifugal force apply in the same way as for the preceding seals the lip 62 on the contact surface 67, as shown in FIG. 29, which represents the sealing device provided with this seal.
If the pressure P acts in the other direction, the sealing device of FIGS. 30 to 32, with which the seal is provided (Tune additional lip 74, which prevents oil leaks along the rotation shaft.
The seal shown in fig. 33 and 34 is of the same design as that shown in FIGS. 30 and 32, but it has an additional lip providing protection against the entry of dust inside the lining.
75 is the seal body mounted in tension on a shaft 76 on which it is stopped by a bead 77 which penetrates into a circular groove 78.
79 is a friction part constituted by a bevelled lip which, resting on the contact surface 80 with the elastic force which was determined during assembly, achieves the seal. 81 is an additional lip carrying a torus 82 which comes into contact without excess tension with two corner surfaces 83.
The purpose of this lip and of the torus is to prevent the entry of dust or particles of sand into the sealing device playing the role of protective felts, the use of which is common especially in foundries.
The advantage of this lip incorporated in the seal is that it forms an assembly that is easy to assemble and also requires only a small space requirement.
We will notice in 99 a short lip which ensures the oil tightness of the passage between the seal and the shaft.
Fig. 33 shows the seal itself. Fig. 34 shows the sealing device provided with this seal. We see at 85 the housing body in which the shaft 76 rotates by virtue of a bearing 86 blocked on the shaft by a nut 87.
The housing of the seal is closed by a seal cover 88 centered in the housing by a bearing surface 89 and normally fixed by studs not shown.
The capacity existing between the lips 79, 82 and the wall 84 of the housing will be filled with grease on assembly. The various particles or dust which might enter the seal along arrow 90 will be prevented from doing so by the lip 82. Those which would nevertheless penetrate will be absorbed by the grease and will not be able to alter the sealing lip 79.
Figs. 35 and 36 relate to one embodiment of the sealing device, FIG. 35 showing the seal itself, FIG. 36 the seal placed in the device; this seal is of the same design as that described above, but here, the bi-sided lip 91 faces the additional lip 92.
This arrangement results from the fact that the seal co operates with a contact surface offered to the lip of the seal belonging not to the casing but to the seal cover 93 which is centered in the casing, to which it is fixed by studs not shown.
Also shown in this figure are the ar bre 94, the bearing 95 stopped by the nut 96. As before, grease will be introduced into the capacity existing between the two lips 91 at Q ′) FIG. 37 shows an embodiment of the device comprising two seals which behave like the seal of FIG. 36, except that the gap between the two lips 97 and 98 being large it is preferable to juxtapose the two seals, the seal 97 and the seal 98 providing protection against dust.
Depending on the conditions of use and the dimensions of the seal, it is possible to join the bodies of the two seals using a sleeve.
