Process for the preparation of copperable disazo dyes In the Swiss patent specification No. 307630 it has been shown that by coupling one mole of an unsulfated 4,
4'-Di-acetoacetylamino-diphenyl compound with 2 moles of the same or one mole each of two different o-carboxydiazonium compounds of the benzene or naphthalene series - where an arylureido radical must be present in at least one of the two diazo components - metallizable disazo dyes are obtained,
whose copper-plated cellulose dyeings have excellent wet fastness properties and are very valuable due to their greenish yellow nuances.
It has now been found that copperable dyes with excellent light and wet fastness properties are obtained if, in any order, one mole of an azo component of the formula (I) Pyi Phi X-Ph2-Py2 (I) with one mole of a diazonium compound of the For mel (II)
EMI0001.0031
and one mole of a diazonium compound of the formula (III)
R-N = N (III) to a disazo dye of the formula (IV)

clutch. In these formulas: A is an aromatic radical of the benzene or naphthalene series which contains at least one acidic, water-solubilizing group, Phl and Phz, identical or different, optionally substituted p-phenylene radicals,
Pyl and Py2 are the same or different radicals of 5-pyrazolones which are connected in the 1-position to Ph and in the 4-position to the azo group, X is the direct bond or a divalent, carbon-containing bridge member and R is an aromatic radical of Benzene or naphthalene series,
which contains a group capable of forming metal complexes in the o-position to the azo bond and which also has the meaning of the group
EMI0001.0062
may have.
As carbon-containing, divalent bridge links, those preferably come into consideration which favor the substantive properties of the end products, for example the vinylene group. the carbamide and ureido group, a 4,4'-diphenyl or 4,4'-divinylene-diphenylurea group, a diamide group of an aliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic, polybasic acid,
such as fumaric acid, terephthalic or cyanuric acid.
The pyrazolone nuclei can be substituted in the 3-position by carboxyl, carboxamide, carboxylic acid ester, aryl and, preferably, alkyl groups, such as, for example, the methyl group, and the p-phenylene radicals identified by the symbols Phi and Ph. Can in turn, for example, be Ha halogen atoms such as chlorine, alkyl groups such as the methyl group,
Carboxylic acid or sulfonic acid groups, preferably in the meta positions with respect to X.
The following are examples of dipyrazolones which can be used according to the invention: Compounds of the formulas 1 to 6, in which Py and Pyz have the above meanings:
EMI0002.0028
wherein Y is hydrogen or, for example, chlorine or a methyl, methoxy, carboxyl or sulfonic acid group.
EMI0002.0034
where Z has, for example, the meaning of -CO-, the cyanuric acid residue or a divalent residue of a dicarboxylic acid such as fumaric or terephthalic acid.
EMI0002.0039
where Z has the aforementioned meaning,
EMI0002.0040
where the symbol Z has the meaning already mentioned.
Some of these dipyrazolones are known or can be obtained from known components by methods known per se, for example by linking aminodiphenyl- or aminodisulfostilbenyl-monopyrazolones with dihalides Hal-Z-Hal, where Z has the meaning given above, for example with phosgene, fumaric or terephthalic acid dichloride or cyanuric chloride,
the third halogen atom of the latter being expediently replaced by a primary or secondary amino group.
The dipyrazolones which can be used according to the invention can be constructed asymmetrically or symmetrically, both with regard to the two pyrazolon nuclei and to the two p-phenylene radicals Phi and Ph. Or with regard to the bridge member.
Before geous enough, however, those in which both the pyrazolone nuclei and the p-phenylene radicals are identical to one another, such as in 4,4'-bis [3-methyl-5-oxo-pyrazolinyl- (1) ] -diphenylurea or in 4,4'-bis- [3-methyl-5-oxopyrazolinyl- (1)] - stilbene-3,3'-disulfonic acid. The dipyrazolones of the diphenyl series have proven to be particularly valuable,
the 4,4'-bis- [3-methyl-5-oxo-pyrazolinyl- (1)] -diphenyl unsubstituted in the diphenyl radical being of particular importance both because of its easy accessibility and the good properties of the end products obtained therefrom.
Diazo components of the formula II are already known. To prepare the same, useful compounds of the formula A NH., Amino compounds of the benzene and naphthalene series can be used which contain at least one acidic, water-solubilizing group, for example 3- or 4-aminobenzene-1-sulfonic acid or -carboxylic acid, the 2-methoxy-, 2-chloro- or 2-methyl-5-aminobenzene-1-sulfonic acid,
4-chloro- or 4- or 6-methyl-5-aminobenzene-1-sulfonic acid, 3,5-dimethyl-2-aminobenzene-1-sulfonic acid, 5-amino-2-oxybenzene-1-carboxylic acid, 5-amino-3-methyl- or 3-sulfo-2-oxybenzene-1-carboxylic acid, 1-aminonaphthalene-4- or -5- or -6-sulfonic acid, 1-aminonaphthalene-3,6- or 3 , 8- or 4,8-disulfonic acid, 2-aminonaphthalene-4,8- or 5,7- or 6,8-disulfonic acid,
2- (4'-aminophenyl) -6-methylbenzthiazole-5- or 7-sulfonic acid.
The usual, diazotized o-oxy- or o-carboxy-amino compounds of the benzene and naphthalene series can be used as diazo components of the formula (III) in the process according to the invention.
As o-oxy-amino compounds, for example, alkylsulfonyl-o-aminophenols can be used, such as 2-amino-4- or -5-methylsulfonyl- or ethylsulfonyl-1-oxybenzene and their further substituted derivatives, eg. B.
nitrated derivatives, then 2-aminophenol-sulfonic acid amides, for example 1-oxy-2-aminobenzene-4- or -5-sulfonic acid amide or o-aminophenol sulfonic acids such as 1-oxy-2-aminobenzene-4-sulfonic acid, 1-oxy-2 - aminobenzene-6-sulfonic acid or further substituted derivatives of the latter, such as 4-nitro or 4-chloro-2-amino-1-oxybenzene-6-sulfonic acid or 4- or
6-acetylamino or benzoylamino-2-amino-1-oxybenzene-6- or -4-sulfonic acid. The following can, for example, serve as o-amino carboxy compounds:
2-aminobenzene-l-carboxylic acid, 2-aminobenzene-1,4- or 1,6-dicarboxylic acid, 2-amino-l-carboxybenzene-4- or 5-sulfonic acid and the corresponding sulfonic acid amides, dialkylamides, - Ethanolamides, etc., 1-amino-naphthalene-2-carboxylic acid, 2-aminonaphthalene-3-carboxylic acid and 5-acylamino-2-aminobenzoic acids,
such as, for example, 5-acetylamino-2-aminobenzoic acid. Preferably, however, those o-carboxydiazonium compounds are used which also correspond to the formula (II) and, in particular, those which are identical to the first diazo component and which lead to symmetrical, easily prepared, disazo dyes.
The coupling of the diazonium compounds of the formulas (1I) and (III) with the dipyrazolones of the formula (I) is expediently carried out in an aqueous medium, if necessary in the presence of organic bases such as pyridine or its homologues.
The disazo dyes obtainable by the present process are yellow to yellow-brown powders which dissolve well in hot water, optionally with the addition of alkaline inorganic salts such as sodium carbonate, sodium phosphates or sodium polyphosphates, and cellulose fibers directly in full yellow to yellow-brown shades by conventional methods to dye.
The dyeings can be treated with copper-releasing agents in the dye bath or on a fresh bath. Copper sulfate or copper acetate, for example, can be used as such, the treatment being carried out in a neutral to slightly acidic agent. If necessary, it is also possible to use copper compounds which are resistant to alkalis, such as those obtained, for example, when copper sulfate is reacted with sodium tartrate in a soda-alkaline bath.
The color of the cellulose dyeings is changed only insignificantly in these aftertreatments with copper-releasing agents, whereas the wet fastness and light fastness are significantly improved.
The disazo dyes can optionally also be treated in substance with copper-releasing agents. Cellulose fibers dyed with such copper-containing dyes are distinguished by their excellent lightfastness.
In the following examples, parts are parts by weight and the temperatures are given in degrees Celsius. Parts by weight relate to parts by volume as the kilogram is to the liter. Example 1 70.2 parts of 4-aminodiphenylurea-3-carboxylic acid-4'-sulfonic acid are dissolved in 700 parts of water with 16 parts of caustic soda, with 13,

are dissolved in 500 parts of water with 8 parts of sodium hydroxide and treated with 40 parts of sodium carbonate. To this solution flows within one hour a neutralized with sodium carbonate, according to known methods from 70,
2 parts of 4-aminodiphenylurea-3-carboxylic acid-3'-sulfonic acid prepared diazonium salt dispersion. The coupling is complete after 3 to 4 hours. The disazo dye formed is salted out with 2.5% sodium chloride, calculated on the volume obtained, filtered off, washed with dilute sodium chloride solution and dried.
It is a yellow-brown powder that dissolves in hot water with the addition of sodium carbonate with an orange color and in concentrated sulfuric acid with a yellow-brown color. The re-coppered colorations on cellulose fibers are reddish-tinged yellow and have excellent lightfastness.
In free form it corresponds to the formula

let flow. After the coupling has ended, the dye formed is deposited at 70-80 with sodium chloride, filtered off and dried. The copper complex can be prepared as follows: The dye obtained above is redissolved in 2500 parts of water at 80-85.
Then 400 parts of a copper oxide ammonia solution, the 50 parts of crystalline. Copper sulfate and 120 parts of conc. Contains aqueous ammonia, added and stirred at this temperature for some time. The copper complex formed is precipitated with common salt, filtered off and dried. It is a yellow-brown powder that dissolves in water and in conc. Sulfuric acid with a yellow color dissolves and is very well absorbed on natural and regenerated cellulose fibers.
The reddish yellow dyeings are excellent lightfast and also have good wet fastness properties. Dyeing instructions a) 2 parts of the dye obtained in Example 1 are dissolved in 3,000 parts of water and 2 parts of sodium carbonate in a dyebath. One goes at 40-50 with 100 parts of cotton, it warms up to 90-95 within 30 minutes, 30 parts of sodium sulfate are added and the dyeing is carried out for 45 minutes at this temperature.
After this time, the dyed material is rinsed with cold water and aftertreated on a fresh bath with 2 parts of crystallized copper sulfate in 2000 parts of water and 2 parts of 30% acetic acid at 70 for 30 minutes. Rinse and dry as usual. The pure yellow cotton dye has excellent fastness properties. b) 2 parts of the dye obtained according to Example 5 are dissolved in 3000 parts of water and 2 parts of soda in a dyebath.
100 parts of cotton are added at 40 to 45, heated to 90-95 within 30 minutes, 30 parts of sodium sulfate are added and dyeing is carried out for a further 45 minutes at this temperature. After this time, the dyed material is rinsed cold as usual and dried. The cotton is colored in reddish yellow shades of very good lightfastness and good wetfastness.
