Ignition flame protection for gas appliances Ignition flame safety devices for gas appliances with a thermal expansion element, which opens the main line when heated, closes it when it cools down and consists of a cantilevered tube, which includes a tension element anchored to the free pipe end and controlling the valve of the main line, are known.
These known safety devices have the disadvantage that they are not independent of the changing heat conditions in the gas appliance and that the opening and closing times of the safety valve are therefore unreliable.
The invention is based on the object of eliminating these deficiencies.
For this purpose, the housing enclosing the valve and the transmission elements together with the expansion tube enclosing the tension element forms a structural unit that can be attached to the outside of the device. The expansion tube together with the tension element that is closed by it is preferably inclined obliquely in the direction towards the burner from bottom to top. The tension element can act on the valve via a lever mounted on a cutting edge.
A preferred embodiment consists in the fact that the expansion tube has an indentation on the underside for storing the ignition flame tube and that this indentation continues as far as the closed end of the expansion tube as a guide for the ignition flame. The transmission elements between the expansion tube and valve are designed in such a way that the valve only opens after the tube has been preheated, while the closing movement starts immediately when it cools down.
The figures show schematically embodiment examples of the invention, namely: Fig. 1 is an example in cross section, Fig. 2 is a second example in cross section, Fig. 3 is the position of the expansion tube to the burner of the device.
A thermal expansion element formed by a thermal expansion tube 4 is fastened in a self-supporting manner on a housing 1 with connection 2 for the gas supply line and connection 3 for the gas discharge line. The inner end of this tube communicates with the space 5 enclosed by the housing; the outer end is closed.
At this outer free end, a tension element 6, preferably a rod, is attached, the inner end protruding into the space 5 is kup pelt with a lever transmission system 7, 8, 9, such that when exercising an expansion of the tube 4 caused Pull through the rod 6 in the direction of arrow 10, the lever 9 is pivoted clockwise. The tension element 6 is enclosed by the tube 4. Between the levers 8 and 9 there can be a slip clutch or friction clutch 11, which has the purpose of equalizing the expansion path of the pipe 4 transmitted by the lever system with respect to the stroke of a valve 12.
The valve mentioned closes the gas supply line 2 against the gas discharge line 3. It is coupled to the lever 9 via an elongated hole 13 and is under the action of a return spring 14. The pull rod 6 is connected to the transmission lever 8, 9 in one Angle from 10 to 45. On the underside of the tube 4 is the ignition flame tube 15, which is embedded at its end 16 in a concave bead or depression 17 of the tube 4.
This bead or trough serves as a guide for the pilot flame; it continues as far as the end of the tube 4, where it merges at the sloping, closed end face of this tube into a channel with a U-shaped cross-section, which is formed by two tabs or flanks 18 of the tube 4. This guidance of the ignition flame causes a rapid heat transfer to the expansion tube 4 and thus a quick response of the same. As the figures show, the tube 4 can be beak-shaped at its closed end, drawn up approximately at an angle of 30, in order to obtain a favorable position relative to the burner 19 (FIG. 3).
The housing 1, which encloses the parts 7, 8, 9, 11, 13, which are transmission elements, and the Ven valve 12, 14, forms a structural unit with the expansion tube 4 enclosing the tension rod 6, which is outside the stove shell on the stove can be set on, which offers the advantage that the heat developed in the stove remains without any influence on the housing 1 and the parts present in it. This also ensures increased operational safety and perfect response of the fuse.
The mode of operation is as follows: If the pilot flame at the end of the tube 15, which is connected to the gas supply via its own shut-off valve, is ignited, it heats the expansion tube 4; the expansion of this tube causes an axial movement of the tension rod 6 in the direction of arrow 10 and thus, as mentioned above, a pivoting of the lever 9 in a clockwise direction. The long hole 13 is held so that the lever 9 initially covers a small idle path, which corresponds to a certain degree of preheating of the expansion tube 4.
Only when a certain temperature and thus a certain expansion path of the tube 4 is reached, the lever 9 takes the valve 12 against the action of the return spring 14 in the sense of opening; Gas supply line 2 and gas discharge line 3 to the burner are now connected to one another. The inflowing fresh gas cools the components inside the room 5, but also the pipe 4 and the tension rod 6.
If the pilot flame goes out for any reason, the tube 4 cools down immediately, contracting accordingly, with the result that the pull rod 6 moves against the direction of the arrow 10, whereby the valve 12 supports the action of the closing spring 14 by the flow of the gas. The elongated hole 13 has the effect that the closing movement of the valve 12 begins immediately.
The arrangement of the elongated hole means that the valve works, so to speak, only in the hot area of the thermostat; it does not respond immediately when it starts up, but only after reaching a certain level of preheating, while the closing movement begins immediately when it cools down.
Of course, the housing 1 can be thermally insulating to the outside.
The embodiment of FIG. 2 differs from that of FIG. 1 in that the pull rod 6 is coupled in the interior of the housing 1 to a lever 21 mounted on a cutter 20, which acts with its free end on the valve 12. Instead of the elongated hole 13, there is an adjustable stop 22 in the form of a nut 22 seated on the valve shaft, which allows adjustment of the idle travel to be covered by the lever 21 until the valve is taken along.
