The present invention relates to an automatic planer capable of working, for example jointing and dressing, a piece of wood on several sides simultaneously.
The known machines are intended for the production of wood for joinery and more particularly for the production of slats for shutters.
The planer object of the present invention is characterized in that it comprises staggered in the direction of advance of the workpiece, at least one lower horizontal tool-holder roller, a set of pressure rollers. drive, at least one upper horizontal tool-holder roller, at least a first vertical tool-holder roller followed by at least one second vertical tool-holder roller capable of working the face of the part op posed to the face worked by the first vertical tool-carrying roller, pressing members being placed between the two vertical tool-carrying rollers so as to engage parts of the workpiece already worked.
The appended drawing represents, schematically, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention. In this drawing Fig. 1 shows, in vertical section, the location of various parts of the machine; fig. 2 shows the same elements in plan; figs. 3 and 4 each illustrate a detail of the machine.
In the drawing, we denote by 1 a horizontal table and by 2 a square guide the teral and vertical, therefore perpendicular to the table 1, and intended to guide, by the edge, a wooden piece brought on a first roller door - horizontal tools 4. The horizontal table 1 is arranged so as to be able to move vertically and parallel to itself in order to allow adjustment of the level of its surface 3 relative to the tool-holder roller 4. For this purpose, the ends of the table are articulated. each has an arm of a pair of parallel arms 5 and 5 'themselves articulated to the edges of the seat benches 6 of the machine.
A lever 7 enables the arms 5 and 5 'to be pivoted around their pivots on the benches 6 and, consequently, to move the table 1 parallel to itself. Other means, not shown, make it possible to move the square guide 2 parallel to itself.
The tools for working in horizontal planes on both sides of the part include: the horizontal tool roll 4 (fig. 1) already mentioned and which is located below the part P, and a second tool roll 8 working the upper surface of the part P. These two tool-holder rollers are not placed one opposite the other with respect to the part P but are on the contrary offset in the horizontal direction.
A drive device, for example in the form of a set of pressure rollers 11, advances the part while keeping its direction fixed, is mounted between the two tool-holder rollers 4 and 8. These rollers 11 have preferably a helical surface, but, in other embodiments, they could be replaced either by a series of toothed wheels or by toothed chains, these rollers rotating on a common axis synchronously or independently. Their drive, not shown in the drawing, can be performed from an engine via a transmission comprising a reduction box.
The operation of the machine described is as follows: the part P to be worked on is placed on the table 1 so that one of its side faces is guided by the square guide. The workpiece is then advanced manually until it engages, via its lower face, with the lower tool-holder roller 4 which immediately begins to plane the underside of the workpiece, advancing the latter d 'a short distance sufficient for it to engage with the pressure rollers 11. The latter acting on the upper surface of the part, therefore the surface not worked for the moment, advance the part to the upper tool-holder roller 8 which will plane the upper face of the part.
Subsequently, the part P having already its lower and upper faces worked, engages, by one of its lateral faces, with a tool-holder roller 9 rotating around a vertical axis and planing a third face of the room. The part then comes into contact with the vertical square guide which can be graduated with respect to the cutting point of the axis. vertical. At this time, the workpiece is guided by a pressure roller acting on the side of the workpiece opposite to the angled guide. It is then brought into contact with a second vertical axis tool-holder roller designated by 10 and planing the fourth face of the part P.
A pressure roller placed after the tool-holder roller 10, in the direction of the advance of the workpiece, leads the latter towards the outlet of the machine. Other pressure rollers can be placed after the tool rollers if necessary.
The tool-holder roller 4 is mounted in a support 14 which, using a dovetail, slides in a part in inclined plan 15. A control screw 16 allows the support 14 to be moved on the plan. inclined of the part 15 and thus adjust the position of the tool roll 4 relative to the lower surface of the part P.
The machine described being able to work at a high and continuous speed, it was necessary to provide means to evacuate the chips as they went. For this purpose, a powerful suction device comprises in particular a nozzle 13 whose edges coincide with those of the machine bed.
In addition, the assembly of the pressure rollers placed after the lower horizontal tool-holder roller determines the position of the part, preventing any deviation of it since at the time of the initial movement of the automatic feed the part s 'presses on the table, the dressing has already started. At the same time, the exact parallelism of the lower face and the upper face is determined, it is maintained throughout the operation.
The planer described makes it possible to work, in a single operation, all four sides of a piece of wood. Of course, the number of tool rollers working on each side of the workpiece is not limited to just one but in some cases where the quality of the wood requires a preliminary rough cut and then finishing cuts, or when it is necessary to make moldings on some sides, this number can be much more than one roll per side.
