Machine tool The present invention relates to a machine tool comprising an electric motor for rotating a cutting tool. Machine tools require means to move the workpiece relative to a cutting tool, or vice versa. To effect this movement, there are two means, namely a gearbox arranged so that the axis of the part moves longitudinally, and means for moving the table carrying the part. These two means are expensive and difficult to achieve, and the aim of the present invention is to provide means making it possible to obtain the longitudinal movement of a shaft connected directly to the shaft of the electric motor.
The machine tool which is the subject of the invention is characterized in that it comprises a flexible coupling comprising an elastic coupling element and connecting the axis of the motor with a grooved shaft so that the latter is driven in rotation. by the motor, and a support for the cutting tool, this support having grooves engaged with the grooves of said shaft, so that the support is rotated by the motor and can move axially relative to said shaft. The single figure of the appended drawing represents, in axial section, by way of example, an embodiment of the machine tool according to the invention.
The machine tool shown is intended for grinding surfaces and includes a circular grinding wheel which can be raised or lowered.
This machine comprises a variable speed motor 10 mounted on a frame 12 and carrying at the end of its axis 14 a flexible coupling 16. The motor 10 is supported in the frame 12 by means of a flange 18 integral with one. of its end plates and fixed to a flange 20 of the frame directed towards the inside of the latter.
A grooved shaft 22 is connected to the upper end of the flexible coupling 16 and an internally grooved sleeve 24 is slidable on the shaft 22. The upper end of the sleeve 24 has a flange 26 arranged for. support a cutting tool consisting of a circular grinding wheel 28.
The sleeve 24 is supported by a bearing 30 carried by a box 32 which is subject to axial movement in a support 34, carried by the upper end of the frame 12. Another bearing 36 is mounted at the upper end. of the box 32 and serves to retain the bearing 30 in the box 32. A grinding table 37 is mounted at the upper end of the frame 12. The grinding wheel 28 extends into an opening of this table so that, when a workpiece is moved on the table, the part of this workpiece which rests against the table is ground by the grinding wheel 28.
The flexible coupling 16 comprises two metal coupling pieces 38, drilled with an axial hole, and mounted in axial alignment on either side of a rubber block 40.
A rack 41 is integral with the box 32, its toothed part projecting through a slot (not shown) formed in the support 34, and meshing with a pinion 42 integral with a helical wheel 44. The pinion and the wheel are supported. by bearings (not shown) located below the grinding table.
A worm 46 formed at the inner end of an axis 48 engages with the wheel 44. Thus, during the rotation of the axis 48, the box 32 with the sleeve 24 and the grinding wheel 28 move relatively at the grinding table 37.
The mechanism described for moving the box 32 is shown in dotted lines in the drawing, the true position of this mechanism on the machine being perpendicular to the position shown.
Locking means are provided to retain the box 32 and the grinding wheel 28 in a determined position. For this purpose, a transverse hole is drilled in the support 34 and receives an enlarged end 50 of a shaft 52. A portion 54 of the shaft 52 is threaded and passes through an internally threaded part 56 mounted on the support 34. As shaft 52 rotates, a friction pad mounted on end 50 moves toward or away from box 32. A control wheel 60 is mounted at the outer end of shaft 52 to control its rotation. The circular central portion of the grinding table 37 is a bolt born on one side, near its periphery, to an arm 39 mounted on the machine frame and spanning the grinding wheel 28 without touching it.
This arm is removed when the grinding wheel needs to be lifted above a certain level and serves to guide the workpiece when the grinding wheel is not; just slightly protrudes from the grinding table 37.
To prevent grinding dust from falling into the box 32 and into the bearings and reducing the effectiveness of the latter, a plate 62 is mounted on the upper end; of the support 34 and extends throughout the opening of the upper part of the frame in which the grinding wheel is housed.
The upward movement of the sleeve 24 on the shaft 22 is limited by the upper face 28 'of the base of the grinding wheel which contacts the lower face 37' of the grinding table. When the sleeve is in its maximum upper position on the shaft, it still transmits the maximum torque from the motor shaft 14 to the circular grinding wheel 28. By this limitation of the movement of the sleeve, the wear of the grinding wheel is reduced. limited to a determined value.
