Lorsque la forme d'exécution de l'appareil équipé du dispositif représenté dans la fig. 3 est mise en service, on suppose que la bou teille b a déjà passé dans des machines qui au ront mis en place la garniture 22 et la capsule 21 et qu'ensuite ladite bouteille aura été ame née en position appropriée sur la plateforme c pendant que celle-ci se trouvait au point le plus bas de sa course périodique et régulière de hausse et baisse ;
Apparatus for closing a receptacle The present invention relates to an apparatus for closing a receptacle by the combined action of vacuum and atmospheric pressure and by means of a device which said apparatus comprises. , device shaped and arranged so as to be able to perform the operation of closing containers which have a narrowing of the inner part of their neck and which are closed by a cap which rests freely on the shoulder formed by this shrinkage and with the aid of a gasket capable of forming an airtight closure by the action of atmospheric pressure when a vacuum has been created inside the container to be closed.
The operation of closing containers in the manner indicated above should be regarded as known; however until now the devices used for this type of operation are complicated devices which are provided with taps or valves intended to open and close the vacuum line; these valves are necessarily born either by hand or by mechanical means comprising cams and levers which further complicate the devices.
The innovation presented by the apparatus according to the invention resides in the fact that it is the container itself which brings the device into a favorable position for closing while putting into service the vacuum line and thus ensuring that said vacuum line dies closed when said container is not in the closed position. This excludes any possibility of interference with the multi-year control of another similar device mounted on the same vacuum line.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, the device of one embodiment of the apparatus.
Fig. 1 is an elevational view with parts in vertical section of the device. Fig. 2 is a view similar to the first, showing the device when it has just been brought into its working position by a bottle-shaped container ready to be closed by the action of vacuum. Fig. 3 is a partial exterior view of the embodiment of the apparatus provided with a platform on which rests a bottle ready to be closed when said platform has been lifted so as to press the edge of the neck of said bottle against the <RTI
ID = "0001.0011"> lower surface of the device, this device being mounted in vertical alignment with said platform.
Referring to fig. 1, it should be noted that the device included in the present embodiment of the apparatus forms an assembly a which consists of a hollow cylinder 10, open at both ends and provided with a lateral pipe 11 intended for to be connected to a vacuum line. Inside this cylinder 10, which must be supported and maintained by appropriate means in a vertical position, is fitted a partly hollow piston 12, the upper end of which forms a head 13. This piston is so adjusted. airtight in cylinder 10.
In the head 13 of the piston is screwed a stop pin 14 which is capable of sliding in a narrow slot 15 formed in the wall of the cylinder 10 following a generatrix of this cylinder; the stop pin 14 and the slot 15 are intended to limit the longitudinal stroke of the piston 12 in the cylinder 10 and also serve to prevent the piston from rotating in the cylinder.
In the wall of the piston 12 is formed an orifice 16 shaped and arranged so that when the piston 12 is at the upper end of its stroke, the orifice 16 coincides with the opening formed by the lateral pipe 11 which is connected to the vacuum line; and when the piston 12 is at the lower end of its stroke, the orifice 16 is located, at least in part, below the edge of the lower end of the cylinder 10, which allows air ambient temperature to penetrate inside the hollow part of the piston 12.
The lower end of piston 12 is formed by a disc 17 provided with an axial opening communicating with the hollow part of piston 12; a rubber pad 18 is attached to the lower edge of the disc 17.
The device described above operates as follows, illustrated in FIG. 2 which shows a bottle b having a narrowing in the inner wall of its neck 19. This narrowing forms an annular shoulder 20 on which a cap 21 rests. A lining of elastic material 22 is interposed between the shoulder 20 and the edge of the capsule 21. It is assumed that the bottle b must have been filled beforehand with any substance to be kept there closed under vacuum, and that the capsule 21 has a shape and dimensions such that it can enter freely into the container. neck 19 of bottle b to rest at ease on the trim 22.
The bottle b thus prepared and placed in the vertical alignment of the device a will be lifted. until the edge of its neck 19 comes into contact with the elastic seal 18. Any subsequent lifting of the bottle b will suffice to force the piston 12 to enter the interior of the cylinder 10 until it reaches the upper end of its stroke. At this time, the orifice 16, formed in the wall of the piston 12, will coincide with the side pipe 11 which is connected to the vacuum line or to the vacuum pump. The vacuum will then act so as to compress the elastic packing 18 and an airtight seal will thus be produced.
The vacuum created in the hollow part of the udder will cause a pressure difference between the chamber formed above the capsule 21 and the interior of the bottle b; this pressure difference will cause the capsule 21 to rise, allowing the air contained in the bottle b to escape and be sucked in by the action of the vacuum pump. Once the necessary vacuum has been created in the bottle, lowering the bottle b will suffice to force the piston 12 to drop into the cylinder 10 by its own weight and the sheer force of gravity until point where said piston obstructs the vacuum line; then, when the piston 12 has reached the lower end of its stroke, the orifice 16 will establish communication between the ambient air and the hollow part of the udder 12.
As a result, the atmospheric pressure will press the capsule 21 downwards against the liner 22, thus ensuring an airtight seal of the bottle b. It is clear that when this operation is completed the bottle b can be withdrawn without any difficulty.
The device thus shaped and arranged has a certain number of advantages, the main one of which consists in the fact that the disadvantage constituted by the presence of unnecessary empty space is reduced to a minimum; it is evident, in fact, that during any phase of the operation the vacuum pump operates continuously and maintains a constant action up to the point where the lateral pipe 11 opens into the wall of the cylinder 10, it is It is also evident that in order to create the pressure difference necessary to ensure the evacuation of the air which is inside the cylinder b, it is only necessary to evacuate the air contained in the space piston 12 and in the small chamber formed above the capsule 21.
Another of the advantages of the device described consists in the fact that it does not require any tap or valve or any means to actuate these members, because it is the bottle b itself which causes the opening of the valve. vacuum line.
In said embodiment of the apparatus shown in FIG. 3 the device a is adequately supported by a support 23 fixed to an arm 24 which forms part of a large rotating disc provided with multiple platforms c arranged at its periphery; each of these platforms c will be placed in the vertical alignment of the corresponding device a, the outlet pipe 11 of which will be connected to a pipe 25 communicating via a central reservoir with a vacuum pump.
The platforms c will be actuated by cams capable of raising and lowering these platforms and periodically approaching or moving away each of them from its corresponding device a.
The general construction is that of a rotary bottling machine of a type known and used for many years; this machine is supplied with containers to be closed by a belt or a conveyor chain and is part of installations which in turn include apparatus for capping the bottles and closing them.
When the embodiment of the apparatus equipped with the device shown in FIG. 3 is put into service, it is assumed that the bottle has already passed through machines which have put in place the packing 22 and the cap 21 and that then said bottle will have been brought into the appropriate position on the platform c while this was at the lowest point of its periodic and regular course of rise and fall;
these operations having left the bottle b in the vertical alignment of the corresponding positive device a and as the apparatus continues to rotate, the corresponding cam causes the lifting of the bottle b until the upper edge of its mouth having reached the lining 18 pushes the udder 12 upwards until the latter reaches the position shown in FIG. 2; at this point the piston activates the vacuum line and performs the operation of closing the bottle b.
Then, as soon as the air has been evacuated from the interior of said bottle, the platform c is lowered, allowing the bottle b to also lower and to carry with it the piston 12 up to that the orifice 16 forms an open passage communicating with the ambient air. The air then enters the interior of the hollow part of the piston 12 and releases the bottle b which is now hermetically sealed. Bottle b can then be removed from the platform and placed on a carrying conveyor belt, all in a manner known to those familiar with the general method of this kind of operation.
In any machine that works with vacuum, the entry of air into any part of an enclosed space constituting the vacuum duct is a major disturbing factor; this unwanted entry of air may occur when the machine used is of the type in which the operation of opening said air duct requires the use of a valve controlled by a cam.
On the contrary, with the apparatus described above, this drawback cannot occur; indeed, if for one reason or another, the bottle b were to be missing in the machine, the elevation of the platform c will not be sufficient to cause the displacement of the piston 12 from bottom to top without the intervention of the bottle b missing, and it is only by moving piston 12 up and down that said vacuum line can be put into service. As a result, it is possible to provide a vacuum pump with a power only slightly greater than that required for the removal of air from each individual device a when this device in turn enters the working circuit.
Such a vacuum pump must be sufficient to ensure that all of the devices that a given device comprises is sufficiently emptied of air to determine the leaktight closure of all the bottles put into work.
