EMI0001.0054

Process for the preparation of new monoazo dyes It has been found that by coupling diazo compounds of the benzene series with 5-pyrazolones kuppelbaxen in the 4-position, new valuable monoazo dyes are obtained if the starting materials are chosen so that the monoazo dyes formed have at most two sulfonic acid groups have cyanuric residues bound via a nitrogen bridge,
which contains an interchangeable ilogenatoni and a substituent containing fewer than 13 carbon atoms.
The dye components which are used as starting materials in the present process and which contain a cyanuric radical with an exchangeable IIalogen atom can, according to methods known per se, by condensation of one mole of a C5-anhydrous trihalide finite one mole of a dye component,
which in addition to the group capable of dye formation has a reactive hydrogen atom bonded to a nitrogen atom, and in a further condensation exchanges one of the two remaining halogen atoms in the cyanuric residue with a compound containing less than 13 carbon atoms and having mobile hydrogen atoms. Such compounds with fewer than 13 carbon atoms come here for. B.
Ammonia, aliphatic or aromatic hydrolyl compounds, mercaptans and, above all, organic nitrogen compounds such as amines, amides, amino alcohols, amino acids, urethanes, etc. can be considered. So are the particularly valuable in the present process, a Cy anurrest of the specified type contained border diazo components of the benzene series z.
B. obtainable from diamines of the benzene series by reacting them with one mole of cyanuric chloride and exchanging a chlorine atom with one of the above-mentioned compounds containing fewer than 13 carbon atoms in the primary condensation product thus obtained.
However, one mole of a cyanuric halide of the formula is expedient for their preparation
EMI0001.0054
where _A, represents a substituent containing fewer than 13 carbon atoms, condensed with one mole of one of the following diamines of the benzene series 4,4'-diaminodiphenylmethane, 4,4'-dimethy l - 3,3 '- diaminodiphenylmethane, 4,4' - di- a.minodiphenyl, 4,4'- or 2,
4'-diaminodiphenyl ether, 4,4'-dichloro-2,2'-diaminodiphenyl ether, 4,4'- or 2,2'-diaminodiphenyl sulfide, 2,4'- or 3,3'-diaminodiphenyl sulfone, ( 4 ', 4 "- diamino-3', 3" -dimethyldiphenyl) -1,1'-cyclohexane. It is advantageous to use monocyclic diamines of the benzene series such as 1,
4-diaminobenzene or 1,3-diaminobenzene. Particularly valuable, lightfast dyes are obtained if 1,4-diaminobenzene-3-sulfonic acid and, above all, 1,3-diaminobenzene-4-sulfonic acid are used as monoeyelishe diamines of the benzene series.
It is often expedient to start from monoamino benzenes which have a substituent which can be converted into an amino group (for example a nitro or an acylamino group, which after condensation with the cyanuric halide, for example by reduction or by Saponification is converted into an amino group.
The condensations with the cyanuric halides are expediently carried out in the presence of acid-binding agents such as sodium acetate or sodium carbonate. In all of these reactions, it is of course necessary to proceed in such a way that at least one exchangeable halogen atom remains in the finished product.
The following are examples of amines obtainable in this way, the diazov compounds of which can be used as starting materials in the present process: a.) Secondary condensation products of 1 mol of one of the above-mentioned di amines with 1 mol of cyanuric trichloride and 1 mol of one of the following compounds:
Alcohols and phenols such as methyl, ethyl or biityl alcohol, phenol, o-, m- or p-kerso1, 4-secondary butylphenol, 4-tertiary amylphenol, dialkylphenols, o-chlorophenol, p-chlorophenol, mercaptans such as dodecyl - merkapta.n, ss-oxyäthylmercaptan,
Thiophenol, amines, such as methyl, dimethyl, ethyl, diethyl, isopropyl, butyl, hexyl, dodecyl, phenyl, o-tolyl, 4-chlorophenyl, 2-chlorophenyl -, N-methylphenyl- or cyclohexylamine,
also ss-chloroethylamine, methoxyethylamine, ethanolamine, acetamide, butyric acid a.mid, urea, thiourea, toluenesulfonic acid amide, glycocoll, aminocarbonic acid esters such as the methyl or ethyl ester, aminoacetic acid ethyl ester, aminoacetamide,
1-Aminobenzene-3- or -4-sulfonic acid or their sulfamides or sulfones. Diazotized monoamines of the benzene series which contain no cyanuric radicals are also suitable as diazo components. They are only to be coupled with azo components that have a cyanuric residue of the type specified above.
The following may be mentioned as azo components which can only be coupled with the diazo compounds of the amines mentioned above under a): 1-phenyl-3-methy 1- 5-pyrazolone-2'- or
-3 '- or -4'-sulfonic acid, 1- (2'- chlorophenyl) - 3 - methy 1-5-pyrazolone-4'-sulfonic acid, 1- (2' , 5'-dichlorophenyl) -3-methyl-5-pyrazolone-4'-sulfonic acid, but preferably 5-pyrazolones free of sulfonic acid groups, such as 3-methyl-5-pyrazolone,
5 - pyrazolone - 3 - carboxylic acid butylamide, 3-phenyl-5-pyrazolone, 3- (2 'chlorophenyl) -5-pyra.zolone, 1- (3'-chlorophenyl) -5-pyrazolone-3-carboxylic acid, 1 -Phenyl-3-methyl- 5-pyrazolone 1-phenyl-3-methyl-5-pyrazolone-3'-sulfonic acid amide, 1-n-acetyl-3-methyl-5-pyrazolone, 1,3-diphenyl- 5-pyrazolone, 1- (3'- or 4'-chlorophenyl)
-3-methy1-5-pyrazolone, and especially o-substituted 1-phenyl-3-methyl-5-pyrazolones such as 1- (2 ', 5'-dichlorophenyl) -3-methyl-5-pyrazolone and in particular 1- (2'-methyl- or 2'-chlorophenyl) -3-methyl-5-pyrazolone, 1- (2 'ethylphenyl) -3-methpl-5-pyrazolone, 1- (2', 6'-dichloro- or dimethylphenyl) -3-methyl-5-pyrazolone, 1- (2'-methyl-6'-chlorophenyl) -3-methyl-5-pyrazolone,
which can only be coupled with diazo compounds containing sulfonic acid groups.
The diazotization of the amines used as starting materials in the present process can be carried out by methods known per se, eg. B. with the help of mineral acid, especially hydrochloric acid and sodium nitrite. The coupling of the diazo compounds obtained in this way with the pyrazolones mentioned takes place under such conditions that the exchangeable halogen present in the starting materials does not react, that is to say expediently in a weakly acidic to weakly alkaline medium and at temperatures which are kept as low as possible.
According to the present process, new, valuable monoazo dyes are obtained which contain at most two, but preferably a single, sulfonic acid group and correspond to the general formula (2) RN = N-Pz, where R is the remainder of a preferably monocyclic diazo compound of the benzene series and Pz is one in 4-position bound to the azo group are 5-pyrazolone radicals,
wherein the dye molecule still has a radical of the formula attached via a nitrogen bridge
EMI0003.0011
in which A denotes a substituent containing fewer than 13 carbon atoms, in particular an o-substituted phenylamino group.
The monoazo dyes of this composition which have a single sulfonic acid group and especially those whose pyrazolone radical contains an o-substituted phenyl radical are particularly valuable.
These new monoazo dyes are suitable for dyeing and printing a wide variety of materials, in particular nitrogen-containing textile materials such as silk, leather and, above all, wool, as well as synthetic fibers made from superpolyamides and superpolurethanes. They are also suitable for Norwegian acid dyeing, e.g. B. from acetic acid or sulfuric acid-containing baths, in particular also for dyeing from weakly alkaline, neutral or weakly acidic bath, preferably from a bath whose 1), 1 value is between 5 and 7.
The dyeings and prints obtained in this way are uniform and are characterized by a particular purity of their color tones, by good lightness and by excellent wash and milled fastness properties, especially in the alkaline range.
In the following examples, unless otherwise specified, parts are parts by weight, percentages are percentages by weight, and temperatures are given in degrees Celsius.
Example 1 39.3 parts of the secondary condensation product of 1 mol of cyanuric chloride, 1 mol of aniline and 1 mol of 1,3-diaminobenzene = 4-sulfonic acid are dissolved in 300 parts of water and 25 parts of 30% strength Slurried hydrochloric acid and diazotized at about 10 to 15 parts by volume of 4N sodium nitrite solution. The pale yellowish diazo suspension obtained is mixed with 30 parts of sodium acetate (CH.C02Na. 3 H20)
and then at 10 to 15, a solution of 21.5 parts of 1- (2'-chlorophenyl) -3-methyl-5-pyrazolone in 104 parts by volume of sodium hydroxide solution is gradually added. After the coupling has ended, the deposited dye is filtered off, washed with 1% sodium chloride solution and dried in vacuo.
The dried dye is a yellow powder, dissolves in hot water with a greenish yellow color and dyes wool and fibers made of superpolyamides from a neutral or weakly acetic acid bath in uniform, washable and whacky greenish yellow tones.
If the corresponding amount of 3-methyl-5-pyrazolone is used instead of 1- (2'-chlorophenyl) -3-methyl-5-pyrazolone, a dye is obtained that is very much wool from a weakly acetic acid bath uniform, also greenish yellow tones, while the use of the isomeric condensation product of 1 mol of cyanuric chloride, 1 mol of aniline and 1 mol of 1,
4-diaminobenzene-3-sulfonic acid instead of the one used in this example results in a dye which dyes wool from a weakly acetic acid bath in yellow-orange tones.
Yellow dyes with similar properties are obtained by this method if, instead of the diazo and azo components given in Example 1, those are used which are listed in the following table in columns I and II.

After a few hours, it is warmed to 25 to 30. Then, at about 30, an acetone solution of 108 parts of m-phenylenediamine is added.
At the same time a concentrated solution of sodium carbonate is produced. added dropwise so that the reaction mixture remains slightly alkaline on brilliant yellow paper. After the reaction has ended, it is acidified with hydrochloric acid and the secondary condensation product is separated off by adding sodium chloride and filtered. It can be used as a nutsch paste directly for the manufacture of dyes.
The cyanuric chloride condensation product which can be used for the preparation of dye no. B. prepared as follows: 18.4 parts of cyanuric chloride are dissolved in 100 parts of acetone and cooled to -5 by external cooling. Then 10.7 parts of o-toluidine in 100 parts of acetone are added dropwise with cooling so that the temperature does not exceed 0. Then 8.5 parts of finely powdered sodium bicarbonate are added and stirred. The temperature should rise to 20 to 25 within 3 to 5 hours.
Here on 18.8 parts of m-phenylenediamine sulfonic acid are dissolved as the sodium salt in 100 parts of water: water at 30 and placed in the acetone suspension. Then 50 parts by volume of 4N sodium acetate solution are added and the mixture is stirred at 30 for 15 hours. The condensation product partially precipitates. After the acetone has been distilled off under reduced pressure, the suspension is made Congo acidic with hydrochloric acid.
The dicondensation product is filtered and washed with a little ice water. It can be used directly in paste form to produce dyes .__-- From 10.7 parts of N-methylaniline instead of 10.7 parts of o-toluidine, this method gives the condensation product and which can be used for the production of dyestuff no. 5 in the table from 12.3 parts of o-anisidine, the cyanuric chloride derivative, which is used for the manufacture of dye No. 7.
The other cyanuric chloride condensation products used as diazo components can be prepared in an analogous manner.
The dye obtained according to Example 1 can be used as follows: 2 parts of the dye obtainable according to Example 11 are dissolved in 4000 parts of water, 10 parts of crystallized sodium sulfate are added to the dyebath and the mixture is added. 100 parts of wool at 40 to 50 one. 2 parts of 40% strength acetic acid are then added, the mixture is brought to the boil within half an hour and dyeing is carried out at this temperature for 3/4 hours. After rinsing and drying, a greenish yellow, lightfast coloration is obtained, which is very washable and whackfast.
The same result is obtained if no acetic acid is added to the dyebath. If you use super polyamide fibers instead of wool, you also get a greenish yellow, lightfast dyeing.
